Low key, friendly atmosphere to grab a pint or two. Excellent chips (aka French fries) with small selection of sandwiches, fish and chips, and shepherds pie. Great place to chill.

This was a pleasant treat that almost didn't happen. We got there about 7:30 and there were so few people in the tavern we almost thought they were closed. The reviews we good on Yelp so we went on in. We had a few beers and ordered the fish and chips. The food was really good! Like so good that even the next day my wife was still remarking on how tasty it was (and she isn't too into food so this really says a lot about how much she liked it). After a fee more beers we met a couple locals and between them and the bartender, Kevin, we pretty much planned out the rest of our time in Rochester. Really really friendly people who pulled out their phones to help us find a few places and were just so pleasant to meet. Get by the Old Toad and enjoy the great food and friend people! And give me a follow on Instagram @CheatDay_SA and let's talk about food!

I will always be a fan of the Old Toad. We came here for dessert and I just really like their speciality desserts of the week. This week was the Triple Sec chocolate mousse and it was really delicious. We didn't taste much of the liquor but it was so great nonetheless. My husband really wanted to try their scotch egg and he really liked it to the point that he was thinking of making it at home by himself. We bumped into some friends, one who was from England and she was having their roast dinner, she said "it reminded her of home". Thanks Old Toad for keeping up the experience.

I've been here twice on Monday night for dinner and trivia. Both times have been pleasant. As far as food goes, I would recommend the beer battered fish and chips or the yorkshire dinner. Both were yummy and simply oh so British. Just a note, the yorkshire dinner is the deconstructed version of the beef and stout pie. I did venture out and try the scotch egg, but it was too heavy for me. I'd recommend to those with strong stomach and heart capacities.

(Vegan review) Open late and was close to our hotel. I had the vegan burger and a beer. It was good but it's like this place is allergic to vegetables or anything green in general. It was good, but it's not like I am going to think about this burger the next time someone mentions Rochester, ya know what I mean. If it had a green (even cooked spinach) it would have been a lot better. I left in a gross food coma.

Pretty much a pub. Great food, wide selection of beers

Fish and chips on a Wednesday? You can at the Toad! I've been coming here for years and it's always great. Today's order is a takeaway: 4 meals, each with something little changed for the picky eaters in my family. The bartender was attentive and careful, having me double check the order before she sent it to the kitchen. My mom's boyfriend is English, and super excited about the Shepard's pie. We're eating fish and chips, which are always solid, and my boyfriend's going with a chickpea burger. I've tried multiple times to duplicate it at home, but NOTHING comes close; this is my favorite veggie burger in Rochester! The bar is always clean. The people are always friendly. The beer and whiskey choices are some of the best in the city. Keep an eye out for their special events; they're worth attending for sure.

This pub has an old time feel to it. The place is filled with wooden booths and the bar has that classic wooden look to it. The waitstaff is friendly and you'll probably get one with an accent which adds a nice touch to the experience. For apps we tried the scotch egg. This was my first time having a scotch egg and it was delicious! The outside's breading is crunchy and I love the rich flavors from the sausage. I didn't need the dipping sauce it came with, but the sauce does have a nice creamy taste. I would definitely order this again next time. For entrees I had the old toad burger and my boyfriend had the shepherd's pie. The burger was piled pretty tall, I could barely fit everything in one bite. I love how well cooked the meat was (I requested medium rare) and how juicy it was too. Even with the bacon and onion ring I liked that I could still taste the meat. The only thing lacking was the taste of the stilton, I didn't get much of it. But nevertheless a very good burger. The fries that came with it were a bit lacking. The potatoes were dry, but I didn't care much because the burger was so good. My boyfriend's shepherd pie was disappointing for me. It tasted like nothing. I felt like there was more mash potatoes in there than actual meat. The roasted veggies that came with it though was really good. They were perfectly caramelized, yummies!! We also both got drinks. I got a merlot and my bf got a scotch that I've forgotten the name of. My merlot was disappointing. It tasted really strange........I was starting to think it was wine gone bad. They gave me a lot of it too, like 3/4 of the wine glass! I did like my boyfriend's pick though! The scotch was not too smokey and had a very nice lingering taste. It's pretty expensive for what you get, but I think it's worth it! Overall it's a pretty good experience, because I really loved the scotch egg :)

There was a youth softball team celebrating the end of the season upstairs so it was a bit loud, but fun. It's right on the creek and there's plenty of outside seating and picnic tables so if the weathers nice you can get your food and beverages and head outside. The bar tenders were all good, let us try a couple samples to make sure we were gonna like what we ordered. There's a separate spot to order food and the young girls working the food spot were unenthusiastic... We ordered the chorizo poutine, Roni Stark Pizza and Tampa Bay Bustdown burger. The pizza was good, honey drizzle was a nice touch, but the poutine and burger were the clear winners. Chorizo gravy had a good kick, and there were big chunks of cheese curd, nice. The burger had 2 smashed patties, nice crispy edges and a ton of flavor. The Gouda cheese and bacon they are using are both high quality. A lot of variety of beers on tap, not all IPAs which was nice for someone that isn't an IPA guy. Tried 2 lager, an ale and a pilsner they had on tap and I'd drink any of them again.

Ample space both upstairs and downstairs. + 2 of the 4 sours I had were decent. + Great for kiddos as they have an outdoor space that's family and dog friendly. It was very busy the day we went with a fun atmosphere outside. + Historic venue with a nice restoration for the brewery. The less great: + The setup means long waits. Having to wait in line for beers in a completely packed brewery with two bartenders is not a way to run a business. They need to consider a new strategy for ensuring they can accommodate the volume they are currently doing. + Had a bite of someone's burger and found it more or less inedible. + My parents had attempted to organize a large family gathering on the day we were there and while I wasn't involved in the planning, there seemed to be missteps and miscommunications along the way that weren't met with much empathy or customer service in mind. Too many great breweries in Rochester to waste time on spots that aren't going to ensure guest satisfaction. Great location though! This place is so, so busy it's obvious the east side isn't brewery saturated (somehow) quite yet.

All I will say, is that it was worth it. The place and the menu are pretty cool/chill. Plenty of seating with firepit style table tops, extremely dog friendly, self serve water, and food/drink selections were great too. The waitress was very sweet, but was obviously overworked and busy too. She apologized and gave us free drink tokens and comped us a side order of garlic fries after they ran out of side salads. None of that was her fault, but it shows how the employees and establishment care about their valued costumers. We had the veggie focaccia, garlic fries, and buffalo parm wings (they were huge). No complaints on the quality of food or the portion size since we had more than enough to take stuff home. We will definitely come back. I live only a few minutes away by foot! My fave hands down was the Tropical Crushed Fruited NEIPA. What a special beer! But definitely take advantage of the smaller pour sizes and have a few different types. The food was great but the standout item was the Warm Cookie & Ice Cream. I'm going to be dreaming about this until I can return!
