Went to "The Richmond " with friends for a few drinks and a little nosh last night. Have been to earlier versions of this iconic establishment- even played guitar in a band years ago here! The downstairs bar was full and the tables looked occupied- so when a server suggested we try the upstairs lounge- we went upstairs and found a nice spot in the corner with 2 little table in front of us. A couple of us had a Mortalis IPA- they have the Mortalis lineup of brews on tap and in cans. Another member of party had one of cool cocktails that they offer- the Diamond Dog. Vodka, grapefruit , elder flower and cucumber. Another had an Espresso martini- complete with 3 coffee beans floating on top. We ordered 2 of their wood fired pizzas- a Bee Sting and another with pepperoni and sausage. Really good! The vibe upstairs was very chill- they have another bar up there and 6-8 tables. Exposed brick and wooden beams give the place a great feel. We definitely enjoyed this new version of an old haunt of ours. Will be back! read more

Every time I come to Rochester I have to stop by The Richmond. This place NEVER disappoints. The Mortalis beer they have on tap is always top notch. As an IPA guy I was very psyched they had four new IPAs on tap and available to go. I made my standard order of Hot Buffalo Wings and a Pizza. Their wings are one of the two best in Rochester. Orders the Zeus Hot Homey pizza which was amazing. I live in NYC which has the best pizza in the US but the only place you can get Cup & Char. Big fan of the Richmond and mortalis brewing company. The wings are the best wings I've had I. Rochester this far. Perfectly coated and the flavor is excellent. The garlic fries are also not too garlicky. They have rotating beers through Mortalis Brewing. I'm a big slushy sour girl, and they always have something that I'm willing to try. The space itself feels upscale and clean. There's always a major sports game on their screens and free shots for when the Bills score! read more

Ok I went to the old iteration of this spot, this place now still has that old charm but it's lighter and brighter inside. They still have that fabulous long bar, regulars who sit at the bar and hells to the yes they still have those wings. As always they are delicious. The upstairs outside will be open soon and I'm gonna go and you should check it out. The menu has enough to tempt you or just have a drink. We got the bee stung pizza and an order of wings (mild is basically medium in heat) That we ordered a few cocktails they were well made and after having one or two of them you don't feel like you got hit with an alcohol bomb. The pizzas are made by The Dough Boys and I think the beers are from Mortalis Staff is friendly and helpful and you don't feel rushed. It's a nice place to hang out if you wanna talk to your friends cause no tv's thank goodness. Yes all good can be ordered to go. I'm glad I FINALLY came back here and I'll bring others. Please give this place a whirl it's worth the visit. This place has been around for a long time. This new renovation and partnership with Mortalis Brewery has made it a great destination spot. They have a great rooftop area and the bar is very inviting. We tried several beers and a pizza. They also have a very cool collection of craft cocktails. I tried the Sean O'farrell where you select a beer and then the bartender pairs it with a shot of liqueur. I choose The Fillings are Mutual for my beer. This is like drinking a Concord grape pie. The bartender paired it with a great rye whiskey. This combination was fantastic. I also tried We Know Steve which is a fantastic NE Hazy DIPA. It was delicious. We started with an Empnada. This evening it was a Buffalo wing style and we had it served with the Richmond sauce, Very delicious! For our pizza we tried the Beesting which was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this place. It is clean and has lots of seating options. All of the staff work together to make your experience the best it can be. All of the staff was extremely friendly. We sat at the bar and the bar tenders took the time to talk to you so you leave feeling like you have made new friends. I was stranded in Rochester for two hours and found this no nonsense, tasty pub. The menu was short but packed a punch with the all stars of bar food. It was an awesome experience as the bar staff were professional and expeditious. The place is a great choice as it's an easy spot to hang out in. Gluten free pizza and mocktails! What a fun place for food and drinks! They have a wood oven they make all their pizzas in, minus the gluten free. Gluten free is prepared and cooked separately to reduce cross contamination. Be prepared to wait +20 minutes for a gf pizza. I ordered the pizza special on the gluten free crust. Not bad! It's a bit thicker (not full Detroit but not NYC thin). Overall, not bad. I would order it again, but this wouldn't be my first choice for a GF pizza. The crust fine, a little dense and premade. They have a couple of fun mocktail options that aren't some overpriced lemonade junk. I would recommend going for the atmosphere and drinks (alcoholic or not). I'm excited to see what else I can try on the menu. The staff are so friendly and helpful! All my questions were answered and it was so fun watching everyone cook at the pizza oven! Beautifully updated and welcoming "new" bar alert! Wings? Still on the menu. Elevated cocktail program, menu, interior, and experience? You bet! We had the best time sitting on the patio this Sunday of our Labor Day weekend, and my jaw hit the floor when we walked in and saw our former wing spot completely revamped. It looks so fantastic while keeping with the tradition of Richmond's alive. We went on the evening of the RCR Bar Battle so our rockstar bartender was manning the fort essentially alone - they were amazing and whipped up my vodka cocktail to perfection. You can sit out on the patio and order directly from their heartland site, or grab a drink at the bar and bring it upstairs. I hope they will be renting out their upstairs space for private events - it is the perfect size and atmosphere. I can't wait to frequent this spot and meet new friends on the patio. Jealous of everyone who lives in the Charlotte Square buildings as they now have a path access directly to this awesome spot. Go check them out if you have yet to! read more

I'm just not seeing the justification for the inflated rating on Yelp. It's just pub faire consisting mostly of wings, fries, onion rings, and pizza. Granted the quality of the wings was excellent by themselves, but the sauces they serve along side are pure mayonnaise. I had to beg for just some straight up Buffalo sauce. You would've thought I killed the family pet! Whatever, on to the beer. They have about SIX double IPAs on the menu--And they all tasted the same: like fruit bowls with almost no sign of hops. Maybe I'm spoiled by west coast IPAs but these are not worthy of the title. I moved on to whiskey rather quickly--which they have a descent selection of. I am a pizza fanatic. While I don't have pictures because the waitress ran off with it. The pizza was a special, chicken wing. All I asked was that they remove it from the menu because it was literally inedible. I picked up every slice to show her. The toppings fell off every slice and the dough was starting to disintegrate. I asked her to show management and she refused and walked over and threw it out. Then Proceeded to go talk to management and laugh. They clearly did not care at all about the food or the customer service. I didn't want anything for free, I just wanted to speak with someone. Rude and effortless. Staff just sat at the bar. The menu is comparable to when DoughBoyz were there but the quality has dropped off considerably, especially the wings. They've lost their crunch and the depth of sauce flavor is lacking. Pizza change was to be expected, wings not so much. The beer was still fantastic, fries were very good, and it looked like burgers were the popular option. My partner and I have become regulars at The Richmond since it first opened. We had been fans of both Mortalis for their excellent beers and Jim and his Doughboyz pop up for some time before they joined forces to create the excellent experience that is The Richmond. The service is always a 10/10 and everyone from the servers, the food staff, and the bartenders are incredibly friendly, accommodating, and kind. They have some of the best pizza in the city of Rochester (sour dough style) with a rotating list of interesting specials. The beer is always top notch and the cocktail menu is also excellent with some great NA options as well. The ambiance it always nice with a reformed dive bar vibe downstairs, cool furniture upstairs, and a lovely rooftop patio for when the weather is nice. It's also a really fun spot to watch a Bills game if that's something you enjoy doing. The Richmond has become lowkey a home away from home here in this city and it's pretty cool to officially be known by the staff! read more

As rare as it is for me to give 5-stars to a "new American" place, the fries and wings here are both actually outstanding. Fries stayed crispy, tasted like potato, and were seasoned perfectly. Wings came out fresh, were crispy even once sauced, and were not too spicy yet still had the right kick. read more

My first time here and I will be back! Loved it!!! New owners and they did an amazing job with the renovation (I saw previous pics of the place). The bar area is cool and upscale, the dining area has beautiful tile floors with booths as well as tables and a bar area to sit and watch your food being made. The Dough Boyz are making the food and the menu is not large but enough things for everyone. Our server greeted us immediately and we sat at the bar area of the restaurant overlooking food preparation. We started with truffle fries with lemon aloli which was amazing. My friend got the diavolo pizza and my husband and I shared the eggplant caponata with ricotta and sourdough and steak and chimichurri sandwich with side salad. Everything was super fresh and tasty. The only small dig I have is that the sandwich was a bit greasy on the outside so I would have grilled it a bit more. The beer selection is Mortalis beer which is one of my favorite breweries in New York. We had beer and my friend also tried a cocktail which was very good. We checked out the upstairs patio which would be awesome on a nice day/night. I'm very impressed with the place!!! read more

The Richmond is a cool place to grab a drink and food. The have ample space with a large patio that will be amazing come summer. The food and drinks are great whether it be the collabs or their regular offerings. As of writing this they are undergoing renovations. I am excited to see the new look once they reopen. visited last night and were greeted by the the same wonderful staff. the outdoor patio is the best. truly a great wait staff but! the Dough Boyz are no longer making the food and boy does it show. there is no pizza there at the moment so the menu was sparse. the lack of pizza was the least of the food issues hummus - looked like baby poop and tasted pretty bad. added an uneccessary spice. just leave the hummus as is, no need to jack it up tiny house salad with overly done vinegar - 10bucks. seriously one cup of romaine. bruschetta was poorly conceived with mushy tomatoes and the wrong seasonings. wings that were ordered at ate there were solid. wings to-go not fully cooked fries - fine. we love this place and hope the team can get it together in the kitchen! they are definitely in transition . dough boyz are at saeger brewery read more

The Richmond ( formerly Richmonds ) has been completely redone and overhauled. Opening August 24,2021 . Soft opening was last week and was outstanding. A lot of care, thought and time went into the rehab of the building. Anyone who remembers the place ( I remember it from the late 1970's onward till it's last closure not so long ago) probably remembers the downward spiral and how it was on life support in terms of maintenance and repair....but the place still had a lot of charm in some ways. It was just very ravaged and faded glory . It has now been give major reconstructive surgery as it were from too to bottom but not losing its soul in the process. The bar is made from salvaged and refinished lumber from the remodeling, new bar shelves made and the kitchen completely gutted and replaced , keeping the open format. All the tap lines and equipment have thankfully also been completely torn out and replaced as new. The old tin ceilings have been rehabbed, the walls torn down to finished brick work and the old stage area is now replaced with a casual and comfortable seating area with an eclectic mix of mid century chairs and tables . The general vibe is upscale casual, so you could wear T-shirt and shorts or dress up and not feel out of place there. They have thankfully kept their signature wings and added a lot of better bar food plates with gourmet pizza by Dough Boyz on the weekend. A lot of thought seems to have gone into the cocktail and spirits menu, a lot of unique and tasty signature cocktails and a list of classic cocktails that should satisfy most everyone. A side benefit of some of the partners owning Cristalino Ice and Bar Mecca next door is that all the cocktails have the best ice and bitters around. The beer selection has a lot of local and better artisanal beers and a well chosen selection of more familiar brands so it seems something for everyone in that department too. The upstairs has also been redone - you can actually see out the front windows now , and it has a comfortable, club or lounge type feel in the front, and is a welcoming refuge and quieter than downstairs. The large patio on the back of the second floor has been redone, cleaned up and a very nice place to sit and enjoy a urban patio setting. Also they seem to have an interesting ordering system - each table has a scannable code so you can access the full menus, order and pay, and they will bring everything to your table. For those of us more digitally challenged, and who prefer a little human contact , they also have very attentive and friendly staff to take your orders or answer questions the old fashioned way. Overall a really great new start for a Rochester institution while respecting its past and welcoming its future . read more

Came here on a Saturday around 530, place was pretty quiet and was able to park a side street over. My first cocktail was delicious, it was some sort of pineapple rum concoction and I wish I ordered it again because my second was the vodka with grapefruit and the grapefruit flavor was a lot. The grapefruit also didn't compliment my dinner which was partially my fault but partially the kitchens. We ordered the white pizza and the parts that weren't burnt were delicious but unfortunately a lot of the pizza was majority burned. We also ordered the onion rings but those alone with the sauce on the side I did not find special. I will totally give this place a chance again because I love mortalis but the first visit was very underwhelming. read more

The owners did such a nice job revamping this place! It has a bar both upstairs and downstairs with comfortable seating upstairs for people to grab a drink and some food. After our first visit to The Richmond last night, we can't wait to return. Our party of six enjoyed the cool classic ambiance on both floors and were lucky enough, weather-wise, to be able to relax outdoors on the 2nd floor deck, a great space. Center stage, of course, was the lengthy Mortalis beer list (I loved the Prometheus and Chronos, both super tasty and potent stouts). Sharing top billing was the food, including expertly crafted pizzas (Truffle Daddy and Diavolo to share) and sandwiches (my wife raved about her Steak+Chimi). To top it off, we enjoyed the lively and friendly service as soon as we entered and with each encounter during our visit. We'll definitely be back. read more

Pizza was soggy and terrible. Wait staff was rude. Place seemed nice but the pizza wasn't even edible and the waitress didn't care at all

The food here is great and the servers are very attentive but we just had a horrible experience with the hostess. It ruined our whole time. When he sat us he let us know we only had 2 hours at the table as there was a reservation at 6, which was odd because it was empty inside. Then came back another two times for us to wrap it up before it was even 5:50pm - with again plenty of seating available upstairs and downstairs. It's a shame to feel rushed out of a space when you spend money and have recommended it to others before. I have never been to a restaurant and felt I was imposing so much by being there. read more

That atmosphere was good, cute decor inside and seemed clean. We sat at the bar with 4 other customers. Ordered Arancini, wings, and a pizza. We like to try a few different things when trying a new place. Arancini was good, wings and pizza were pretty flavorless. Ok bar food but I think you can get better flavors at another local brewery on Monroe that does pizza. We had to continually get someones attention, for silverware and additional drinks. All in all service was ok for only 4 other people at the bar which for the size was pretty dead. No one else was there as it was 4:30-5ish. We will be back for cocktails. read more

Food menu is lacking in options but I'm guessing it's because they just opened. All of the food that did come out of their tiny kitchen looked great. The wings were awesome except for the price which is why I didn't give them 5 stars. $18 for a dozen wings is the most expensive wings around. I know there's a wing shortage driving up prices right now but there are other great wings in Roc that don't charge that much. Their upstairs area is quiet and roomy. There's even some books up there. Their patio is great too. Lots of places to sit, eat and drink. read more

It's gonna be a problem to have mortalis more accessible. Place looks great with 2 bars and an outdoor patio. Had the fries to eat and they were absolutely banging. The beer obviously didn't disappoint either. Only downside is the parking situation but kind of comes with the territory for bars downtown. My missus and I were frolicking around Rochester a rather dreary Saturday afternoon when we both read the sign that said "Sorry we're open" and both of us unanimously decided on dropping in. We're treated by the cheerful bar staff and being the drunks we're, we stopped took a seat by the bar. the place was rather cozy and chic and their open-kitchen concept caught my eye. Having some restaurant in the past and being inquisitive I asked if we could take a seat by the kitchen counter where they had seats. We placed our orders for the pizza and my wife who despises pizza chose to order the steak+chimi sandwich. The pizza blew her mind. We had to order two more. the bread they use is something they make in-house and ferment for 48 hours (I spoke to the chef). the pizza itself is crispy and the burnt edges that extra edge. the raw ingredients used are definitely high quality products. We ended up coming there the next day for dinner and drinks and ended up taking 3 more pizzas to go for my family. and then the following monday we ended up coming there with the family. Highly recommend it. reading the other reviews on this page I can quite evidently see I am not the only person to harbor this opinion. read more
