    Fried ribs

Have you ever had fried ribs? If not, you NEED to come to Bobo's for a dinner. Even if you have had them, you still need to come. Deep fried, crunchy, but the meat still tender enough to easily bite off the bone? I am droooling!!! They were covered in a really delicious housemade sauce. Mac and cheese was creamy, greens were flavorful, and then the rice and sweet cake pulled it all together. I really had so many flavors with this dinner! And we got TWO of them (fried ribs, Mac and cheese, collard greens, rice, cake) for $15 each--$30 for the 2 dinners. You really can't beat it.

Best comfort/soul food in town. Kind of a long wait time, but I promise, it's completely worth it!

FINALLY! A Black-Owned spot in Rochester that is reliable, affordable and a real treat. Yeah, I waited a couple minutes later than what was originally told, but it was well worth it. I wish nothing but the best for this restaurant. 8/10 on the ribs - they were just a little fatty. My niece rated her steak 6/10 - it was just a little too tough & hard for her to cut but the flavor was all the way there. Every side we had was beyond amazing. The flavor is always there, not too seasoned but just enough for you to add whatever you'd like. 30 mins after I got home, the food was still hot and steaming when I opened it. I am a big fan of their greens, cabbage & yams. This place has definitely made it in my top 3 favorite restaurants in Rochester. Kudos to the chef! Oh, and on top of it...they play GREAT tunes while you're waiting for food. I knew every one :)

I found Bobo's on Yelp, figured I'd give it a try. I ordered a chicken & shrimp dinner ($17--yes, at first thought it's a bit pricey, but don't worry). The dinners come with rice and two sides. I chose collard greens and yams. Food is made fresh to order, my wait time was about 20 minutes. First impressions: LOTS of food. Smelled great. Full breakdown: Chicken wings-- Well cooked, large, and crispy. I loved the Bobo sauce. I'm not sure what's in it, but it's some sort of a tangy/sweet&sour/jerk combination. Yum. Shrimp-- Flavored with pepper. Yams--- Oh man, these were good. Sweet (but not overly sweet), mushy, and delicious. You'd be a fool not to order them. Collard greens--- Flavorful, fresh, and paired well with the rice and yams. Rice--- Lightly seasoned. Afterthought: I was able to eat 2/3 of the dinner (VERY happy with the portion sizes). The food was fresh, homemade, and tasty. Would I eat there again: Absolutely. I would change my order a little though... I'd order a chicken dinner (minus the shrimp--which was good, just not necessary), with sides of yams and mac & cheese.

Found this place on Yelp as I was in Rochester on business. After reading the reviews, I decided to take a chance and I must say it was well worth it. It's a take out only type of place- sort of a hole in the wall (hole in the walls have the best food as we all know). I had the chicken wing plate with mac and cheese, yams, and the sauce on the side. It also came with rice and sweet bread (tasted like cake). The chicken was seasoned quite well and fried hard just as I like it. The yams and rice were pretty tasty as well. Now for the mac and cheese, I wasn't too impressed as I'm from the South where our mantra is seasoning our dishes well. Therefore, the mac and cheese wasn't anything to write home about. I only had a ten minute wait, which wasn't a long wait at all as the chicken was cooked to order. The portion size of the plate was huge and worth the money. I would definitely come back and maybe try a different side aside from the mac and cheese, but I'm definitely all for the wings!

BoBo's Chicken Shack has some good chicken wings. Yes, just wings, no breasts, no things, no drums. But wings they do, and they do well. Picked up the chicken dinner on a Saturday evening. It took a while to fry them up, as it's quite a small storefront with one cook. Actually, it's pretty much just a kitchen and a waiting area, so get your food and get out. The chicken was perfectly fried. Crispy outside with just the right amount of crunch and a delicious and moist inside. I got to try both with and without BoBo's special sauce and I gotta say, though still good without, you should have the special sauce, maybe on the side(which I did ask for but they forgot, so I stole sauce from my girlfriend). Nothing but good chicken with a great tangy sauce. The sides were also nothing to scoff at. The collard greens were nicely seasoned, with bits of ham in there. The yams were soft and quite sweet, a bit much for me. Corn bread (yellow cake) was also on the sweeter side, but I love corn bread and think it goes GREAT with bbq. Rice is good, but nothing special. And Mac and Cheese we got as a free extra (maybe it was the last batch?) it was nothing special to me, but my girlfriend quite enjoyed it. Still, it was a nice gesture from the owners and I appreciate their friendliness. All in all, good play to try out some fried bbq chicken.

If you are in the mood for chicken, you will want to check out Bobo's Chicken Shack. Plan for take out, but there is one table and a couple stools at a bar. Six Good sized wings on a rice bed and 2 very generous and very delicious sides. I had the mac and chess and candied yams. Bobo is the cook and opened this place 2 years ago. He was talkative and friendly. The staff greeted us and we had a great time for the 10 minutes we were inside. And if you want chicken and waffles, go on Tuesday. I will be there for that in the next week or two.

This food is DELICIOUS! I'm a NYC native so I am used to some good Soul Food. BoBo's doesn't disappoint. I couldn't decide between the pot roast and the wings so I bought two dinners. Solid choice! I'll definitely be going back. Probably tomorrow!

Would a Korean like this place? Aka spice is essential

That depends on whether the Korean in question likes fried chicken wings, yams, collards, mac and cheese, ribs, cornbread, and shrimp. I am assuming that Koreans -- like everyone else in the entire world -- have individual preferences and tastes.

The welcome committee appears to consist of cleaning utensils casually staged on the stairs leading to upstairs seating--because nothing says "we're ready for guests" like a mop-and-bucket obstacle course greeting you at the door. Inside, the vibe is best described as "dimly lit and emotionally uninvested." Less atmosphere, more "we forgot this place was open today." Service takes the concept of "self-serve" to an artistic level. The bartender acknowledged us briefly--just long enough to confirm we existed--before immediately resuming whatever bar-related priorities were clearly more important than customers. Meanwhile, several people ahead of us were openly discussing their 10+ minute wait with no movement toward actually being served. After a while, it became clear we were not waiting for service so much as participating in a passive endurance experiment. Eventually, we chose the only winning move: leaving. Honestly, the most efficient part of the entire visit was the exit. I'm still not entirely sure how a place with this level of disorganization manages to stay open, but I do wish them luck--preferably while we're eating somewhere else.

You would think that a restaurant who only does take out would have a better presentation in its to go containers. My husband ordered a 2 meat 2 side plate and both his sides were essentially combined, as were his meats. His container was on the top in the oversized bag on top of a container with a potato and then a container with a sandwich at the bottom. Stacked completely out of weight order. His had also leaked all over everything else so it was a mess. The food itself was just OK. The best item was the cow boy baked potato. The side of corn tasted fresh out of a can, not sure how it's "Cajun". The beans (now mixed with corn) had a nice flavor and probably would have been really great by themselves. My husband didn't eat much of his chopped brisket so that must have not been tasty. He did eat all the chicken. My pulled pork sandwich was really lacking on the amount of meat. I ending up eating it open face because there was way too much bread for the tiny smear of pork. My daughter liked the Mac n cheese and she's picky. If I ever come back it will probably only be for a potato.

Both of these meats were awesome but lacked the heavy smokey flavor I was looking for directly. No worries, because they were still so good that I opted for the Connor Plate knowing well that I couldn't finish it all. For $12 the Connor Plate was a heaping portion of meat, mac salad, corn and beans. The mac salad was not too heavy on the mustard and mayo (perfect!) and the bean medley was sweet and abundant. The barbecue sauce was added the savory and smokey flavor I wanted but was also sweet.
