A great find! I have driven by this place for some time but never stopped. Finally this weekend we did. The food was great and the service was friendly/attentive. We were going to try the ribs but they were sold out. That's not necessarily a bad thing! I'll be back to try them. We had one of the pulled pork sandwiches and the Alabama sauce on wings. BBQ is something that I honestly don't go seeking anymore. We happened to be passing through this quaint village and pulled over to search places to eat. The Normal happened to be right across the street so we gave it a shot. Nestled in an old turn of the century building, it had a lot of charm the old stained glass and hardwood floors. Ok, get to the food. I had ordered the smoked turkey sandwich that was topped with their homemade turmeric slaw and signature bbq sauce. This sandwich was just phenomenal. The turkey was super juicy and the slaw was perfect. Their signature sauce is along the lines of a Carolina style sauce was just fantastic. I also had a side Of their Mac and cheese which was super creamy, very rich with a hint of smoke in it. Bottom line, this place is worth the journey. I just wished I came hungrier. The open kitchen concept is amazing, the bar area is so cute with the exposed brick wall. We went on a perfect night where the doors were open, they do have outdoor seating also. The service was great, they were right over the second we walked in. You can either dine in or take out, this will definitely be one of our new take out go to's! The food was so good, the pulled pork sandwich was so filling I could barely eat half. We got a side of Mac and cheez, beef tallow fries and dill cucumbers, all the sides were great! Went there tonight to place a to-go order and was told to leave. I am in shock. My ten year old wrote down orders for a family of 4, had his Dad drive him to Lima to place a to-go order in person, and was told to LEAVE. Heard good things about this new BBQ place and wanted to try it. It's a tipless restaurant where, if dining in, you scan a QR code to place an order and pay and then the food is brought to you. We decided to order online and pickup. When we arrived we were immediately greeted by the owner and staff. Behind the front counter all operations of the kitchen are visible making it easy to communicate with staff. The delicious smoky aroma is the first thing that hits your senses upon arrival giving way to an excited anticipation to try their food for the first time. The place is very clean and I could see how this would be a nice spot to grab some good food and drinks (there are several alcohol and non-alcoholic options) with friends on a Friday or Saturday night. Since the restaurant is fairly new, they are experiencing some growing pains of success so patience is key. We ordered several mains and a few sides. I was disappointed that there weren't any combo offerings like most bbq places. Everything is a la cart. There was a glitch in the system where we ordered a large side of Mac and cheez, but when we arrived they were out of it. To my pleasant surprise the owner wanted to come through with a solution and if we could wait a little longer, he would make a fresh serving for us. If it wasn't the only thing my picky eater back home would eat off the menu, I would have said don't worry about it and exchanged for a different side, but seeing that we had time to wait, we went for his offer. He also gave us a free Ive cornbread to try - Talk about above and beyond customer service!! I'm glad we waited because she LOVED the Mac and cheez. The food was delish! The lingonberry barbecue sauced ribs were fall-off-the-bone and filled with flavor. I really enjoyed the smoked Buffalo wings. They were cooked perfectly and the Smokey flavor penetrated the meat just right. Being from Buffalo, I'm picky about how wings are cooked and find most places err on the side of undercooking, but these were great and as a blue cheese for wings lover, I especially appreciated the #ranchisforsalads hashtag when ordering online. The brisket sandwich was juicy and flavorful. The beans were a little too smoky and no one in the family enjoyed them enough to eat more than a bite full. The turmeric coleslaw and German potato salad sides were tasty. We'll definitely be back to try more dishes. I especially want to try the lingonberry bbq wings. read more

The food was very fatty and sides tasted commercialized meaning the sides ( Mac and cheese and baked beans) tasted like it was all store bought. There was barely a portion size served per dish and some couldn't even be eaten because of how fatty it was and it was extremely overpriced for the service and food . The Normal is not normal..my first experience was awful..cant order off a "normal menu...as in paper or plastic..really!? Our group of 6 had a wonderful experience last night for dinner. My wife and I had a full rack of their St. Louis pork ribs smothered in lingonberry BBQ sauce. The meat was perfectly cooked with a soft pull apart tenderness that left a clean bone. The sauce was great; if you like lightly sweetened lingonberries, you're going to love this. We also had an order of smoked cauliflower which was new to us. It was tasty and novel, almost like a meaty veggie. We also had pit beans and potato salad. All yummy and way too much so we brought a bunch of it home. So A+ on the food. Other highlights include friendly service (it wasn't busy so we had engaging conversations with the manager/server/host? - wish I had asked more about her role); overall aesthetic (nice old converted building with brick walls and high tin ceiling) and design theme (LOVE the 20th sci-fi comic book look); ordering simplicity (via QR code and Toast app, though it took our older friends a moment to figure it out); and beer choices (including Surly, from Minneapolis (we've visited their brewery - it's big and fun)). Chef Adam knows how to prepare a mean BBQ along with everything else I have sampled (Mac n cheez, German potato salad, bread pudding, Cornell chicken, quesadilla, need I go on?). We ordered online for lunch to go. Food was ready on time, and we took it home to eat. My wife absolutely loved the Ribs with Lingonberry sauce, not so much the beans, perhaps too smokey. I really enjoyed the pulled pork, though never got the listed brioche roll with my order. The slaw was so, so, and the Buttermilk/custard pie was forgettable.
