My wife and I like to check out new places and have seen this place and since we love BBQ we opted for Heintzelmann's BBQ. The place was neat and clean and our server Michelle was very nice, helpful and personable. Being new customers we were surprised that we were offered a sampler of eight of the sides as well as cornbread with a surprising cinnamon butter to spread on it. All were delicious and made our choice of two difficult. My wife chose a side salad and the Cajun corn. I got the mashed potatoes with gravy and the smoked baked beans. We waited maybe 20 minutes after the sampler and my wife's salad for our dinner, which seemed long but not terrible. The owner Bob had been coming around checking on tables. When our food came out, he also checked on us and apologized for the length of wait. He offered free desert, which we didn't think necessary but very much appreciated. We each got a 1/3 slab of ribs which were tender and delicious without saucing them. There were 3 sauce options at the table. Gold, original and sweet. All good but original was my favorite. I got the pulled pork and my wife the pulled chicken. We took our complimentary desserts to go as we had no room left. We choose the baklava cheesecake and peanut butter pie. Also both delicious. The dining room is cozy and the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. Our server heard it was our first time and she gave us a side sampler to try, featuring most of the sides on the menu. We loved this detail. We were also impressed when the owner came out to greet us and tell us about the process for making the wings. The staff was attentive and made us feel at home. We loved the special for Wednesday, which was 75 cent wings and buy one get one free domestic beers (can or tap). This allowed uto have a very affordable date night. The food was excellent. Big place with a fun picnic look, classic looking bbq motif. Server was so sweet and welcomed us to their family. The samples of sides was such a good move on their part. I'm having a hard time to review this place. There are 3 doors to enter his place, none of them are marked. I ended up coming in the patio door, but they thought we were leaving and wished us a good night. Got that straightened out and got a table in about 5 minutes. This was around 5:30pm on a Saturday and the place was fairly busy. Everything was clean, lots of tables and space. Minimum decorations, which is fine. Server was prompt, friendly, and helpful. She got our drinks quickly. $4.29 for an iced tea, ouch, I would've skipped it. She brought out cornbread with cinnamon butter. I'm not a fan of corn bread, but this was amazingly good! Oh so so good. Our meals came out within 15 minutes. My brisket was warm, very tender and had a very nice Smokey flavor. My fiends prime rib, he had no comment. He ate most of it. Honestly from my my view, it looked pretty sad. The sides: Mac and cheese was good, better than most places. The applesauce was from a jar, blah. The beans were barely warm and from a can, blah. The sauces on the table were not very good. The "gold" was absolutely horrible. It was like mustard powder in vinegar. The regular and sweet had a very strong vinegar taste, even if was a vinegar based sauce. Overall, I would eat here again and sample more of the menu, but only if I was in the area. Went to Heintzelmann's on Saturday because we heard great things about their Saturday special: Prime Rib, and it did not disappoint. Went around 6pm they close at 8pm on Saturday. We were sat right away by the hostess. Not a fancy joint. Simple red checkered table clothes. Big booths with high backs so you have some privacy. Our waitress brought us waters and we did a glass of the red wine. She also brought us some delicious cornbread and cinnamon butter right when she greeted us. tasted amazing. Since it was our first time she also brought us a sampler of the sides. She said they like to do that for all new customers and we loved it because we got to try the sides before we ordered. (Nothing was bad). We ordered the prime rib in 8oz medium rare and 16oz. Medium. Mashed potatoes and gravy. Collard greens. Macaroni and cheese. Also came with choice of soup or salad which we both had salad. They make homemade cornbread croutons which add a sweetness to the salad that were delicious. Service was amazing. This place is an underrated gem. A bit of a drive to Ontario but wellllll worth it! Very casual establishment which was nice. We were so looking forward to lobster rolls tonight. Then we were so disappointed. The filling was basically a lobster salad. The lobster was finely chopped and mixed with fillers. This place is just a little bit out-of-the-way but worth a trip. We arrived 4:30 on a Thursday afternoon and were the only ones in the place, though they did have a steady stream of takeouts. We were immediately gifted with cornbread and maple butter. Both perfectly delicious. Service is terrific with very attentive, wait staff. We were offered a tray of tastings of all the sides since we were first timers. Who would refuse that? Every side was just delicious which made it really difficult to pick the two sides to go with my ribs. So I did what any sensible person would do, and ordered french fries as a starter. I eventually landed on the macaroni salad and coleslaw. The ribs were fall off the bone, tender and despite ordering only a third of a rack I wound up only eating half and taking the rest home. Cold, beer and wine are available and there are several desserts listed on the board. This place is better right now and and there are patriotic themes throughout. This place has gone down hill. First the place looks dirty and run down. We have gone here multiple times since they opened and it is nothing like it was when the opened. We ordered 2 pit plates to go which we have had many times in the past. My plate with smoked cheese burgers and my wife had pulled pork/ pulled chicken. First off they put meat hot sauce on both plates. The menu doesn't say anything about meat hot sauce and it was terrible. I have never had a pit plate with meat hot sauce before. Who puts meat hot sauce on BBQ? My burgers were terrible and the wife's pulled chicken was so dry whe couldn't eat it. The meat hot sauce ruined the plates so I scraped it off and ate half of it. My wife barely touched hers it was so bad. Half way through my plate I got the worst case of diarrhea and spent the next half hour in the bathroom. I have had a really bad stomach ache since and in and out of the bathroom with diarrhea. My wife is also complaining of a stomach ache. I hope we didn't get food poisoning. It's to bad this place has become so bad. We used to drive out from Henrietta just to eat there but I can promise you we will not be going back. read more

Have had good food and service in the past. I recently tried to pay for a 26$ order with a 50$ gift card and was told that is was too old and they could not honor it. Even though no experatiin date or depreciation clause for time was on the gift card ( it was a paper gift "card") So...they did not accept it and I therefore IMO...paid 76$ for my order. At some point they received 50$ for ZERO service. At the very least should have honored the 26$ order with the 50$ "card". I do understand inflation...but....VERY Disappointed! read more

Let me first start off by saying our waitress was great! Friendly, prompt, polite and overall just a great server. I am however embarrassed to say I don't know her name (blond with glasses is about all I have to go by). Parking is free, convenient and close to the back dining area. For food: the waitress first brought us our drinks with complimentary corn bread that was delicious! There was a special on wings so my friend and I tried a couple of them, 75 cents each with no minimum order amount. They were grilled and smoke- and very tasty. For our main meals I had the Two Meats Meal with pulled pork and brisket- dry and then I used their South Carolina sauce that was on our table ( three sauces are at your table to use: Original, Sweet and South Carolina) the South Carolina sauce is kind of a cross between mustard, sweet and sour and a lite bbq sauce- pretty good, even for someone who doesn't like mustard. For my two sides I had mashed potatoes and gravy and homemade applesauce- both good. My friend also had the Two Meat Meal but had the ribs and pulled pork, both he said were delicious- just wished there were more sauces to choose from, a spicer one would be a nice option to have. For his sides he had the beans and mashed potatoes with gravy and enjoyed them both. We also shared a large side of macaroni and cheese which was delicious!! We went here in the early afternoon. They are following COVID 19 Guide lines. Small and off the main high way of 104 I would suggest using GPS. They had chicken we wanted ready before it was time for them to serve but allowed us to order. Hot and fresh. Collards were out of this world! Mac and cheese wonderful! I've had the pleasure of eating here a dozen times over the years. The menu is full of traditional BBQ options, but the thing I enjoy about this place is that they're willing to try things outside of the norm. So tonight was Crawfish Boil night! I found out that the crawfish were delivered from Louisiana today, and they were boiled up and ready to go for dinner! They were just like I remember from my time in Louisiana 20 years ago! Served with clams, shrimp, potato's, corn bread, and andouille. Only thing missing from my time in Louisiana were a few hush puppies. The food is always outstanding. The service is always outstanding. The one thing I really appreciate is that the main guy in the kitchen, Bob, is also the proprietor. He takes the time to come out and visit with every single table. In fact, I've talked with Bob every single time I've eaten here....now that's impressive. I travel the country for work and eat out almost every single night of the week. Rarely do I see the personal side of any restaurant I visit, but Bob is consistently in front of his customers. The good? Their food is fantastic. The bad? Portions are small for the price you pay. The ugly? They recently added (without ever telling or asking us) an 18% gratuity charge for pick up orders... even when you walk in and get your food yourself. Never mentioned a word to us, just added on the bill. We thought the total seemed high and checked our receipt in the car and we're completely shocked and turned off by this. 18% is typically added in in house for parties over 8 when they're serving you an entire meal and waiting on you. Seems a bit out of hand to me when we picked up the meal and they just put it in a box... ? And to not even mention it ahead of time was ballsy and entitled. Customers are spending a lot with you and we even came inside to get our food, it wasn't a curbside order. This is like the Starbucks drive through adding 18% gratuity. A rare little locals place found in the middle of no where. Brisket is a must have. Chicken was pretty good. Pulled pork was good but nothing amazing and same with the ribs. Sides were a little small and weren't anything to rave about. Tried the mac and cheese which was not creamy but thats what happens when you smoke it I'm sure. The sweet potato tater tots though were incredible. On Sundays they serve breakfast and that was unexpected but great. The breakfast burrito with brisket was good but peppers were not really cook slightly hard. All in all a good place to try some new bbq. They have a good amount of options to try. My husband and I had different reviews on this place. So my review.... I had the pulled chicken sandwich with smoked Mac n cheese and seasoned green beans. Mine was great for $12.95 it was plenty of meat and good sides however the Mac n cheese was a special side so it cost more and while I love Mac n cheese I don't think it was worth additional $2.00. I would have preferred a plain Mac n cheese that did not cost more. The seasoned green beans were very good and the size was decent. Kinda wish they were warmer than room temp though. The corn bread was good, not dry or too sweet, definitely could have had more than 1 piece. The service was excellent, we did eat dinner early (5ish) so they were not too busy yet. I think our servers name was katie, she answered all of our questions which felt like a lot and checked in on us a lot. Now my husbands review: he wanted a beer, someone had said they had a large amount of beer options... no they don't. I believe you could count the beer on your hands and only 3 were local crafts (1 being a cider and 2 being beer). Kinda a bummer with everything there is to offer around here. They did offer to sample the one beer before pouring a whole glass which was nice though. For dinner he ordered the half slab with Original bbq, regular fries and mashed potatoes with gravy. He likes the bbq sauce, fries were delicious and the mashed potatoes were food but could have used more gravy. The ribs themselves were rather dry, the only juice came from the sauce. It's nice to have a restaurant in Ontario. BBQ is always an all American choice. I always find ANY bbq establishment that they struggle to keep pulled meats hot. This is not different in my opinion. The corn bread is delicious. I am not the best judge of bbq since it is not my favorite but Heintzelman's always seems to have a good number patronizing. Yes, there is a full bar! We have also placed catering orders and they have always provided five star service. Oh Heintzelmann's.... Your were quite the let down. Honestly, three stars is being pretty generous I think. I don't live in the area but my buddy does and he talked you up quite a bit. Sadly he was wrong. Now of coarse everyone has their own taste but, I'm sorry I just don't get it. We came in last night, around 7 I think. We got a booth right away even though we asked for a table. Not a huge deal but I'm a big guy and prefer a table. We were told the tables were reserved for people who weren't there yet and didn't arrive till shortly before we left. So strike one. If your gonna have booths make sure everyone is comfortable in them. Strike two was the decor, was the person who put your place together Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde? You have carpet, in your dining room.... I don't think there any possible excuse for that. Hard woods, Fine. Polished Concrete, cool! Even Laminate would look better! And a drop ceiling? Really? Are we in a call center or a restaurant for god sake? Then instead of just going in on the whole weird call center vibe all the lights are Edison bulbs? It was a jarring discrepancy. I'm not even getting into the odd assortment of shtick on the walls. OK so next up, food. If your going to charge me $8 for garlic fries they better be A) prodigious B) The best damn garlic fries ever. Yours were a far FAR cry from either category. An appetizer should stimulate the taste buds and get someone excited about the meal. When the result is the lamenting that they purchased such a sad sack of fries with some seasonings thrown at it, you have failed. Now they were not BAD. Nothing was BAD, it was all just levels of ok to meh. Next up, New England Clam Chowder. When you read that either you thought "Blehk" like my wife because you don't enjoy it.... Or, you imagination began running wild about a nice, thick, creamy bowl of rich deliciousness, with chunks of clam and potato, a wonderful savory dish that warms the soul with just a hint of sweetness from the clams. That was not what you served, not remotely close. Your chowder was thinner than chicken noodle soup and I don't know if your taters were off or you used bad leeks or too much celery but I can still taste the bitterness of that stuff on my tongue. My wife got nachos, they were fine, pretty large order but for almost $20 I expect that to be the case. Nothing else really to say there. I got the half chicken and brisket with Mac and cheese. The Brisket was dry, not bad but def needed sauce and not much bark. The chicken skin was stretchy and gross, not crispy as Id expect. The mac and cheese was over cooked and pasty. The corn bread was ok, we each got a 2 inch by 2 inch square that was a half inch thick. Is their a corn shortage? We didn't get silverware till after our entrees were delivered, had to ask for it twice, as well as refills, straws, the check and to go boxes. The staff does not seem to be trained to anticipate or predict problems. All in all, it was the least of Rochester BBQ places, from food to decor to quality to service. Can't say I recommend you stop by. Also, we didn't get dessert because of how unimpressed the food was, but $7 for a slice of pie? That's like a $35 pie man, what are you putting in it??
