We split the pulled pork and Brisket combo platter....some of the best BBQ around...everything was absolutely delicious
    Debra C.

Excellent little BBQ joint right on 104. Very clean log cabin feel inside with counter service and an assortment of very clean tables inside and out. We shared the combo platter of Brisket and pulled pork with smoked green beans, BBQ beans and Cajun corn. All sides were very good......Cajun corn was delicious.....made with fresh corn on the cob with just a hint of Cajun spice, I think these were my favorite. BBQ Beans were a bit heavy on the sweet and molasses but still very good. Meats were excellent, awesome flavor and not a bit of fat on anything. Didn't even need any additional BBQ sauce. Could use a little improvement on the corn muffins.....they could be a little more moist and flavorful .....they're a little dry and crumbly ( Remind me a little too much of Jiffy cornbread). But all in all.....AWESOME. This place would totally give Sticky Lips and overpriced Dinosaur BBQ a run for their money. I will stop by here every chance I get...

Absolutely love the BBQ here. The brisket is fantastic. Great low key atmosphere. I would choose this over Dino and Sticky Lips.

Alongside the meats, we wanted to try their sides as well which consisted of mac and cheese, baked beans, corn bread, cole slaw and salt potatoes. For the brisket which we looked forward to the most, we found these to be drier than we would have liked. Paired with sauce, they were just okay. For the pulled pork, we found this to be phenomenal. Smoky and delicious all on its own. Definitely a highlight for us. For the bacon, we ordered 3 different kinds, and we found the flavors didn't really shine through. Although generously thick cut and cooked perfectly. The kielbasa was a bit of a letdown. We found these to be on the dry side, but the flavors were okay. For the sides, the mac and cheese we found the pasta to be a bit overcooked and overall, on the bland side. The baked beans tasted great, no complaints there. The corn bread wasn't anything special and neither were the salt potatoes. Although we did enjoy the salt potatoes and found they were exactly how they ought to be. The cole slaw was also on the bland side and tasted more of the fridge than any flavor. We've heard good things about their smoked wings which we had to try before leaving. We ordered a 5-piece with their spicy Asian sauce. The wings were delicious, the smokiness flavor penetrated throughout the entire wing, but the sauce was very salty which took away from the natural delicious taste of the smoked wings. Overall, a good experience which some seasoning issues but would revisit if we were back in the area.

The cornbread was a giant slice, moist with delicious honey butter slathered on top. Ribs were very meaty with a great char, not too much fat. Pulled pork was delicious and not much fat. Mac salad was super creamy and the perfect texture. Tator tots were super crispy with a tasty dry rub dust. Help yourself station with 3 choices of sauce and little cups. All were tasty. I also ordered a side of white Alabama sauce, it was so delicious. Plenty of seating inside and a ton of varied seating outside with a lot of shade from sun. We almost left when we saw the long line out the door, so glad we stuck it out. We waited about 30 minutes just to order. Then the sign said "45 minutes to get your food after you order". Thankfully ours came in 20 minutes. Worth the wait if it took longer though. I would go back frequently if it wasn't a full hour from my house, but I'm already dreaming of going back. Leftovers heated up perfectly the next day. (Full disclosure, I ordered some pork hash rice and it was so gross. It reminded me of dog food. My husband ate it though, and liked it, so I can't judge.) I love you, Smokin' Pete's.

To continue with my birthday celebration, Joseph suggests we come here to try the food. What a good choice! For my soup base, I choose the mushroom broth. We would have loved a place like this when we were on campus. This is probably an Ithaca 5. As in, for where you are, this is a good spot. When evaluating this place to a comparable offering in a bigger city, and it falls short. Staff were awesome. They came by when asked and were great. My favorite part of the entire place is the tablet ordering. I love places like that. You're not left waiting for someone to hopefully come by. Even refills and the check can be requested through the tablet, and that's great. As for the options on tbe menu when it came to BBQ, I wish they were a little better. The marinated meats lacked a little something that would take it to the next level for flavor. I found myself wishing for just a tiny bit more, but that's in comparison to coming from a bigger city with plentiful options. They had a self serve area with some foods and dessert. That was great as well.

But the menu is more diverse than you might expect - along with barbecue and steaks, the regular menu includes several seafood and pasta dishes, burgers and barbecue sandwiches, wings and fried appetizers. Rancher's Choice has been on my list for a while in my search for great BBQ in CNY. Recently stopped with some friends for lunch but unfortunately, it was a let down. We had a reservation just in case, but it was 1PM on a Sunday, so we were sat immediately - 1 or 2 other tables sat. Our server was with us immediately. My wife and I ordered a 2 meat platter to share with smoked kielbasa, brisket, smoked mac & cheese and onion rings. One of our friends also ordered a platter, while the other, who's a pescatarian, went with shrimp scampi. Our food was brought relatively quickly and mostly everyone felt their dishes were just okay. Our 2 meat platter had small portions (for 2 people, maybe that's on us), all our meats were cold, a small squirt of BBQ sauce on our meats, and our smoked kielbasa and smoked mac and cheese had no smoke to them and just tasted like normal offerings anyone could have prepared. While we know most of the pricing when it comes to BBQ comes along with the labor involved in preparing it, what was served to us simply wasn't worth over $30. With only 1 or 2 other tables sat, we didn't feel there was any reason for our meats to be cold either. Our server was great, personable and attentive. Don't think we'd give it another chance.
