Met with a cheery greeting. The restaurant was cute and our food arrived in record time. The ribs were fantastic; the meat just fell off the bone. We ordered the 2 x 2 in a tray and one meat was the ribs. The others was the brisket. I found the brisket to be low on taste and very disappointing. I used the BBQ sauce that was on the table but it wasn't very tasty. We both ordered macaroni and cheese which I found needed salt even though I don't usually salt my food. My husband and son had the brisket. With Mac salad and a roast vinegar based potato. The potatoes were an oops. The waitress confused my husband order with another table. I don't really hold her at fault. The place got full fast at dinner time and it was just her. Owners: kitchen staff awesome but you fill up quick on a Saturday. You make need a back up waitress. I was referred here for the ribs. "Best in Rochester" I was told. The taste wasn't bad but they just weren't tender. At all. Ribs should be fall of the bone, not rip from the bone. I stopped in completely on a whim recently (mainly while trying to pass some time before meeting up with friends who were driving in from out of town). There aren't too many places to sit (just a couple booths and a couple tables), but that's part of the charm. There were maybe... 6 other people eating in the restaurant besides me (during the entire time I was there). I was seated in a booth and given a bit of time to check out the menu. Given I was back around Rochester, I went with the "Trash Tray" Plate... a selection of two meats on top of your choice of two sides, all covered with "yesterday's hot sauce" and diced onions, then served with a slice of white bread. I opted for the brisket and pulled pork for my meats, then barbecue beans and coleslaw for my sides. It was only a matter of minutes after I ordered that my tray was brought to my table... and it was definitely an ample amount of food. No way was I going to finish it, but I was going to enjoy trying. For what it's worth, this restaurant notes that their meats are 100% hormone and antibiotic free AND that all their beef is raised by family farms and fed exclusively local produce. Gotta love supporting that kind of system. In terms of the food itself, it was good. Not the best barbecue I've had, but certainly good... I think I was just expecting a bit more flavor. Driving from Buffalo to Oneoata (yah! I know...) we found, through Yelp, this awesome, down-to- earth, unassuming but badass real BBQ joint. With maybe 12 tables, it was hopping and so was Allie- who was working as hostess, server, food runner, bartendress and take out order taker/filler. BTW, she was awesome!!! During our wait time, the hubs and I reviewed the menu and landed on a 3x3 platter. Three meats (we chose turkey, chicken and brisket as they had sold out of ribs, Polish sausage and pulled pork) accompanied by three sides (bbq baked beans, Mac n'cheese and Cole slaw- all clearly home made) with pickle spears, cornbread and pork rinds). Neither he nor I are for cornbread but tried it because one of the reviewers mentioned how good it Was--- and it was. Moist, sweet and corny. WOW! Not that the incredibly flavored smoked meats needed anything to propel this tasty morsels into outer space- but oh. My. Gawd the BBQ sauces. Two different flavors both busting an explosion to my taste buds. My only slight meh comment, The brisket could have been a bit on the dry side. Overall, what a delicious, perfectly sized shareable meal. Or enough for some starving 18-year old young athlete burning 10,000 calories/day. All we can say is go for the brisket! We just had a party for 30 and had Rt 96 BBQ deliver a couple of meat trays and 2 delicious sides.. All of it was tremendous. It should be noted that we tried 3 different BBQ locations before going with them. The meats, brisket and pulled pork, were both tender, moist, and with nice smoke/bbq flavors. Their mac salad was another great choice topped only by the best cornbread around here. Lastly, delivery at 3pm was punctual with everything perfectly tempted, ready to serve. Try a Texas Twinkie! The portions are generous and the flavors make your mouth water. We thoroughly enjoyed all of the items found on our 4x4 meat platter. The cornbread was tender and sweetened with honey. The pickles were crisp and cool. We enjoyed the extra treat of pork rinds. The turkey was smokey and savory. We loved the brisket which was bursting with charred flavor. Each of the sides were interesting and delicious. My favorite was the Fried Potatoes with mustard vinaigrette while my husband enjoyed the classic Collard Greens. We have been back several times and our most recent visit was a little disappointing with the cornbread tasting dry and some of the food not to temp. Sometimes we all have an off day though. We ordered takeout the day before Christmas Eve, and upon arrival everything was ready to pick up at the announced time. The host staff was friendly and quick to greet us, take our name, and secure our order. The restaurant looked cute inside, well-decorated and a place I'd be happy to return to experience dine in service. The food was tasty. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches with a side of Mac and cheese and a side of the mustard potatoes. We loved that the pulled pork sandwich was topped with cole slaw and a pork rind. BBQ sauce was served on the side to ensure the roll didn't get too wet. We found the pork to be a bit too fatty, and somewhat under seasoned. The overall taste was fine, but it wasn't my favorite pulled pork ever. The sides were good. Mac could have been cheesier, but the potatoes were the best part. Love the mustard sauce. Out this way for work. Huge BBQ fan. This place was awesome! I showed up around 11:20am. The staff was friendly! Cute little spot and cozy! I already picked out my next meal for when I come back. I've never done that before but this place excites me! The food was simply delicious! I would have had them cater my wedding if they were closer to home!! This is on my maps as a new go to spot when in town. Ha, I'll drive an hour out of my way to eat here... they did a really nice job on all the food items ordered. The brisket comes with your choice of one side (they have a great selection to choose from) and the meal already comes with the pickle, pork rinds, and cornbread! You can't beat the price either!! I wish there was a 3.5 star option. I started going to Route 96 BBQ when they opened, and it was excellent. I don't know if there was a telephone game kind of issue, but the quality definitely dropped. It's still a crapshoot when you order brisket (will it be super fatty? dry?), but the addition of the turkey to the menu was great, and the cornbread is always delicious. I don't eat pork, so I skip the pork rinds, but I hear the homemade sausage is delicious. I just wish the brisket was consistent, preferably consistently good! read more

This review was really between a 3 and 4- for many factors. I will start off by saying it was Father's Day and it was an unexpected/unplanned stop for dinner so there were no expectations set. The hostess said it would be about a 30 minute wait and not to get mad at her if it was longer- said in a sweet and caring way- it ended up being about 25 minutes which worked out great. From watching the interaction between staff you could see it was a day that was a little busier than had been expected and the cohesiveness of a team approach might have been lacking a little. Nonetheless, we were seated in a comfortable booth and greeted by their regular "busing" staff member who was helping out with serving for the evening- he was AWESOME!! Although his one co-worker felt it necessary to stop and tell us to "be easy on him, it's not his normal position and he doesn't know much"- from receiving his excellent service and watching hers with her customers I can tell you we'd take him over her ANYDAY! I had the two meat dinner, the Brisket, which was a little dry, but still VERY good. For my second meat, I had originally wanted to try their turkey but was told unfortunately that they were all out of it, so instead I had the smoked sausage with sauerkraut which was good as well. Sides were delicious and meal overall was good- we'd go back! The 3 stars was really for the one server who tried acting like she was in charge and better then all of her co-workers and left a sour taste in our mouth. But food is rated a decent 4. Looking forward to going back and trying it when it's not a busy evening like Father's Day. But also hoping they are always that busy! read more

I don't get out to this BBQ restaurant as often as I would like to but when I do it seems to get better & better than the time before! To clarify I wouldn't think it could even get any better. I have been on a beef brisket kick for the last year or so & clearly the best I've had in a long time. I get the deviled egg appetizer, half pound brisket plate with Brussel sprout side. This was our 2nd visit. I was not impressed the first time and today's visit sealed my thoughts. Clean and Covid restrictions are in place. I ordered wine that was good. I ordered 1/2 chicken with fries. The served fast, fair amount for portions. Fries where nice and hot and they had a lot of good seasoning. Very tasty. The halve chicken was seasoned very well. This is where my dissappointment comes in. The chicken was not very warm. The skin was extremely soft. I like the skin to have a little texture. Being the chicken temperature, I will assume it had been sitting in a warmer or under a light. I have had fast food chicken that was hotter. The chcken was moist for the most part and I used there sauce they have on the table. 2 varieties one being dark and sweet and the other lighter in color and a kick after the fact. I thought itnwas a little on the pink side even for smoked chicken. I do not like chicken that has a fleshy kind of texture. This chicken ran juices out when I pulled it apart to dissect for my puppy. Not red, just juice. This was the breast. I did not feel satisfied with my meal in the end. You may find this to be just What your looking for! I could not recommended any one eat here but they it and write a review! You may find it delectable and to your liking. Went with a larger party of 8 and were seated privately in the back. Ordered the Turkey Reuben which was pretty good but the sides of Mac n' cheese and fries were room temp at best. Not much to write home about the "Funyun topping" on the mac; since it seemed like normal breadcrumbs. The floor was horrendously dirty with the waitress assuring us they were cleaning it tomorrow. When I tell you the floor was caked with over an inch of black grease....the bottoms of my shoes were black by the time we left. It was gross and very unhygienic. I highly recommend you do yourself the favor of trying their rib wings...OMG amazing. To start off the service was decent. Nothing spectacular, not terrible, just fine. Now the food. I wish it was fine. Coming from Texas I've had my share of bbq. Sauce- decent, not for me as there was wayyyyy too much sugar and no tang at all. Corn bread - while I don't like honey on my cornbread, it was actually pretty good! Coleslaw - fine, nothing special about it. Collard greens - actually pretty good! Turkey - don't know, they were out of it at 11:30 Chicken -okay, tasted fresh, not dry, over seasoned in my opinion. Brisket - an absolute disgrace to the entire art of BBQ. So tough I needed to pull my pocket knife out to cut it. So dry I couldn't swallow it without taking a sip of water. None of that fat had rendered because it was cooked to hot and fast. It was severely over seasoned. Needs to be seasoned with less salt, and cooked lower and slower to prevent dry tough meet. Dropped from two stars to one. When you walk in there is a large sign saying if you pay with a card you will be charged an additional 3%. I attempted to pay with cash to avoid that. Many flawless visits. Two weeks ago, we enjoyed the patio deck until an employee took a cigarette break 8 feet away. Our choice of beverages were not available (midweek.) The roasted Brussels sprouts materialized as potato salad. Thankfully, both the salmon and pulled pork were excellent. Hmm, perfect lunch spot losing its edge? Decided to try again. Arrived at about an hour after peak. Two people eating and one person at the bar. It was 10 minutes before a waitress appeared. The customers all left as the two of us and a solo diner were seated. The two craft beers we chose were unavailable - all 4 crafts were not available. Waitress put our beer cans on table. She offered glasses, as a second thought but broke one before disappearing to gather another. Now 5 of us in the restaurant we hear her offer plastic utensils to one table because there was no clean silverware. Our food was a disappointment. Fried potatoes and corn bread were delicious. The salmon was overcooked, dry. The pulled pork was 1/3 fat, dripping grease. The Brussels sprouts were roasted to being charred, served limp. All came 12 minutes after the only other person in the dining area received the meal he ordered we ordered. This meal being our standard order, we know they serve much better prepared food even when the tables are filled. The sign at the door states they charge 3% extra for using a credit card. In this pay-by-phone era, redo your prices to cover this overhead. Why irritate the customers. Once my husband's favorite casual restaurant,, Route 96 BBQ is off our list for now.
