First time visiting since the dining room was completed. Ordering is quick and easy at the service counter. You are given a number and food is brought out to your table. I had some questions about the chicken when ordering and the cashier was helpful in explaining heat options. The dining room is very large and spacious. Plenty of seating including the bar. The bar has multiple large tv's; great place to catch a football game. There is also free water available and different sauce options at a self service area. I ordered the classic chicken sandwich which comes with one side. I chose Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese is seriously good; cheesy and well seasoned. The side size is huge and would be more than enough for me to share. Sandwich seasoning and quality was great. The sides were good, but the chicken was total garbage. Extremely salty like outrageously salty for no reason. The extra crispy option comes out really bad. It ruins the flakyness and burns the batter. Should not be an option on the menu if it is that gross. Thought I would give that a try, fail. I ordered the half bird for reference. This place has excellent chicken, no doubt. When it came to the 'Pa Bowl" I had last night (March 22nd 2025), I gotta tell it like it is here. It was 25 percent chicken and 75 percent french fries. Come on y'all... when you get a 3-piece meal, you get a lot of chicken for the money. For $13.99, I get less than half of one of those chicken pieces and a load of french fries. That's just a joke. Line was long and there were two options total (chicken tenders with a side or fish fry). $15/3 piece chicken tender + one side or $18/fish fry which was fairly pricey considering the portion sizes. Tried one of each thing. Unfortunately, it took about 30-45 minutes for us to get our order (and we had to ask several times when we saw people after us getting their orders; I think we were accidentally skipped). The chicken itself is very tasty as well as the awesome sauce. The tenders were crispy and juicy, but portion was small. Tried the corn, mac and cheese sides and they were just okay. The fish was a large portion and came in a very satisfying big box. The garlic parmesan fries were tasty and I wish that was a side option for the chicken since it beat out the rest and the slaw was not bad. Holy cow! Just as good as I remembered when they just started up. Love their chicken, but don't know if I love their sides as much. The chicken looks dry in photos, but that's because it's not oily! Their orders opened promptly at noon and we quickly ordered and picked up our food at 5 pm before heading to Highland Park for a fried chicken picnic. There happened to be some ballet concert in the background while we were enjoying this. Opening this giant box of fried chicken is very satisfying. Chicken was tender and soft with a good crisp outside that didn't have the KFC greasy feel. The chicken was actually not too salty which made it pleasing to pair it with its sauces. Even warming this up later, the chicken did not dry out but definitely needed their sauces to spice the flavor back up. I thought their macaronic salad was a little too sweet; it was a slightly odd cole slaw meets macaroni combination that left a straight sweet oniony aftertaste that I wasn't a fan of. The potatoes were a little dry in the center of the scoop; gravy was fine. Overall I would come back here for the chicken but I would forgo their sides. If you like the sides, then you can have mine. My partner and I went to The Metropolitan to enjoy Sandwich Saturday at the Bar Bantam pop-up. So glad we did! It was nice to be out in the world and not feel unsafe, to have a cocktail I didn't make for myself (and had a bunch of ingredients), and to have some bomb fried chicken. I had The Southern and my partner had The Heater, each $15 with a side of mac n cheese. Don't pass on the Awesome Sauce ($1.75 if you get it on the side, which I did because I was worried about it being too spicy, but I didn't think it was), it makes those sammies sing. I told them to hold the pickles because I hate then, but then I tried one from my partner's sandwich and they were great because they were housemade and not too pickled! My partner thought the mac n cheese was a little bland, but with the addition of some Awesome Sauce, I didn't notice at all. We shared a side of fries ($5, I think) and they came with two dipping sauces (Awesome Sauce and a tartar-like one). They were well-seasoned, there were so many we had leftovers, and the sauces were a perfect pairing. We both agreed our sandwiches were 5/5 and our drinks (Japanese lager for them and The Lincoln for me) made it a lovely night out. read more

Chick'N Out is still a pop-up. But their location changes from time to time. The ordering process is a bit annoying. To be fair, this is somewhat due to Covid-19. Basically, follow their social media and they announce when pre-orders are opening for certain days and you better be ready to fill out that form. Much like buying concert tickets, they can sell out within minutes. It took me 3-4 tries to get an order in. That being said, it's totally worth it. Because, whatever they are putting on this Chicken is banging! We got a tray of Hot and Not so Hot! The coating is crispy (but not low carb so I gave in to the carbs today). You get a choice of sauces and honey. And some pickled cucumber slices which are nice and refreshing. They also have optional sides on some days. Their to go trays come neatly packed and they put bread under the tenders (I'm guessing to help absorb grease and keep the crunch). Chick'N Out launched as a pop up within Blossom Road Pub on Thursday nights. I think the launch was brilliant, as it soon got so crowded that I didn't even go anymore, as it was so busy. People were waiting 2+ hours for this chicken! That's dedication. I have, however had Chick'N Out on several occasions, both at the Blossom Road Pub pop up and at their lunch pop ups at their University Ave location. Today I got a small white combo with mac and cheese during their lunch pop up from 12-3. I got there at around 11:50 and waited about 20 minutes to place my order, then another 10 or so to get my food. The biggest complaint you'll likely hear about Chick'N Out is that there is a wait time. This is true -- they're popular! You'll want to get there early, or go a little later and risk having sides/food sold out. Whether or not the wait is worth it is up to you, but I'm willing to wait 20-30 minutes because the chicken is fabulous. The chicken is some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. It's perfectly breaded, seasoned, and made more delicious if you order it "stung" (with honey). I order the hot, which is good, but could be hotter (they also do a "way too hot" that I'm going to try next). The mac and cheese is rich and delicious, but my favorite side is actually their cucumber and onion salad that comes with every order. Their collard greens are also popular. Currently, there are three ways to get Chick'N Out: pop ups at Blossom Road Pub on Thursdays, random lunch pop ups at University Ave, and Sunday pre-order pickups at University Ave. You're going to have to act fast if you want the Sunday orders, they sell out in 10 mins or so. My tip: turn on post notifications for their Instagram to know exactly when things are being released! read more

Update: I reviewed Chick'N Out this morning before my boyfriend got up. When he did wake, he found out that I only did 4 stars and, after a heated discussion, he said, "They deserve 5 stars!! They exceeded ALL expectations." We rarely have good experiences with delivery and take out in general. I can't emphasize enough how this great meal made our night. He is very picky but he loved everything! The Mac Daddy sandwich was absolutely perfect. The garlic parm fries are like elevated McDonalds fries.
