On top of that, the owner and operator, Ms. Evangela 'Van' Stanley is widely regarded in the community for her generosity and care for others. My husband swears by this place but it was my first time (7/10/25) and i cannot wait to go back. I also got a huge portion of peach cobbler, took 1 bite because i was so full, (took the rest to go) but it is absolutely to die for. Delicious and big portions. Super satisfying flavors specially oxtails and collard greens. The jerk chicken, candied yams, macaroni and cabbage is very good as well. Their jerk sauce is flavorful, well-balanced and would go well with any food. The place is very clean and owner/host is very kind and hospitable. I have not reviewed a restaurant in a long time. This establishment deserves a great review. We need to take a deeper look at the some factors that made this experience a great one. The owner of the restaurant was very kind and presented my wife and I with several great options on the menu. My choices were the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and Fried Stew with two sides, yams and greens. Each item was cooked to perfection and presented with a genuine touch. The chicken was moist and not overcooked. Beans and rice created a great base for this dish and rounded out all the flavors to appease my palate. We will highly recommend this restaurant for an original taste of Caribbean. O. M. G. I'm from out of town and was in Rochester visiting friends this weekend. We decided to try People's Choice because it smelled so good outside, and WOW! The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD! The brownstew chicken was SO GOOD! My friend got the curry chicken and LOVED it. The collard greens were the best I've ever tasted and the mac and cheese was outrageous! And the peach cobbler? The best I've ever eaten in my life. I even bought the jerk sauce to take back home with me. Also the service is fast and friendly. My absolute favorite thing to order here is the oxtails .. omg my mouth is watering as I write this LOL In Rochester, it's hard to come by a place that served this and People's Choice is one of theee best! NOTHING about the meal was Jamaican. the chicken was parboiled before it was put on the grill. very little jerk flavoring under the sweet bbq sauce that was put on it. the mac and cheese was a whole other story...NO flavor at all, just mac and with a sprinkling of cheese, not a dap of salt or pepper. then there was the 'sweet potatoes', i think they forgot to put brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg in them. just boiled sweet potatoes with white sugar and a touch of vanilla. i hear people talking about how good they are, so maybe it was an off day. all i know is it won't take a chance on them again read more

Okay. So, I've driven past this place a million times and thought about stopping just as many times, but for some reason never did. I FINALLY got there with two friends last week and I am kicking myself for not making the time to go sooner. Not only is the owner incredibly sweet and an asset to our community, but the food is delicious. I got the curried shrimp with mac and cheese and collard greens. I'm always leery of collard greens because they can be so hot or miss, but I would legit eat a gallon of these collard greens - perfect balance of tart and sweet. And the rest of the meal was just as delicious. Now, on to the banana pudding ... holy crap. No offense to my grandmas who both make/made a wicked banana pudding ... but I haven't had banana pudding this good in as long as I can remember. In fact I'm dreaming of more of it right now. I know some reviews mention service was slow - we were in zero hurry when we were there and made sure she knew that, but from our vantage point, the counter was busy the whole time we were there and no one seemed to wait long at all. Is it as quick as some fast food? Of course not. But it's also NOT fast food, so don't expect that. Also, even if there is a wait, it's completely Worth it. Anyway, check it out! The were right down the street so I ordered 3 lunch specials -1 jerk chicken and 2 curry chickens- for myself and each of my parents. It was inconvenient that they had no signage on the outside stating the establishment is cash only. I only found this out from a sign on the counter after ordering. There is an ATM machine inside the establishment, of course with a fee. While my parent's food was fine. I was only given about 2 tablespoons of rice and peas and a lot of cabbage!! Didn't even get one pea in the rice. It's as if they ran out of rice for my plate so tried to sub in the cabbage. Street parking is a bit sparse, but I was able to snag a spot. I wasn't sure what I was going to get when I walked in because I couldn't find a menu online (I've attached a picture of their menu here). I ordered two Jerk chicken dinners for me and my spouse, as everyone was raving about it. The dinner came with rice & peas (I got gravy added to it) and two sides (I got collard greens and Mac and cheese.) Let me tell you, this dinner hit the spot!!!! Chicken was finely seasoned w a delectable jerk sauce, the collard greens were sweet and savory, and the Mac and cheese was the perfect texture and flavor. I rarely finish my food in one sitting but I finished every little bit of this meal. Only thing is I wish it came with a bit more rice. Was turned on to People's Choice Kitchen by a good friend and it is one of a kind. Don't go if you're looking for an upscale high class restaurant but do go if you're craving some good hometown food. A small joint that on the day I went had a sweet woman working the counter and one chef in the back. Everyone that came in seemed to know one another and the woman at the counter seemed to know exactly what they wanted before they even said a word.
