The wife and i have been going here for years! The food is always good, and they typically have a special of the day (check the chalkboard to your right as you walk in) and the drinks are perfect! They have daily specials (look above the mirror wall to find out what they are) The staff is super friendly, personable and always want to provide you with the best service they possibly can. It's a small sports bar with a generally older crowd of locals (40+) who are always super friendly and welcoming. The drinks are always great here and you really cant go wrong. If you do happen to have an issue with something, JUST POLITELY SAY SOMETHING!!! They have no problems with fixing any problems and the owner wants to know whats wrong because they will address the staff to make sure it doesn't happen again to provide a better experience for all the other patrons. My friend and I went to The Retreat restaurant for the first time last night, hoping for a decent Fish Fry. It was excellent! The beer batter crust was wonderful....crispy and tasty. Coleslaw was great, but we would have liked more of it. Danielle was our server, and I guess she's an owner, and she had it all going on. She was fast and focused and got it all done. I think it will be hard for her to find a waitress or wait person who can do as well as she does, but I hope she will find one. She deserves a break! Only criticism is, the tartar sauce could be improved with more relish, as it is a bit bland. I hate even mentioning it, because our experience was 100% positive. A bar with bar food. Way too loud, especially the music. What food is available changes as the day goes by. Entrees end at 9 p.m. everything else ends at 9:45 p.m. except "fryer food." My pretzels were burnt. The quesadilla was good. Their version of the garbage plate was too hot and the macaroni salad was the wrong kind. Our beer orders were mixed up. This place has some yummy wings and I especially enjoyed the gator sauce. It had a nice smoky flavor, with some heat and a dry rub. The peppercorn parm tasted like it just had dressing poured over the top and it definitely wasn't a table favorite. The main reason for the two stars is because for some reason the bartender (who also is the owner) was just rude. Threw my drink coaster towards me, threw my card back at me... how hard is it to set it down in front of me or hand my card back politely like you did to everyone else around me? I got the hint that if you aren't a regular here, you probably won't be treated as nice. Just a weird rude attitude... Wings were good but I won't be back because there are plenty of other places that have good wings and also good customer service. read more

The Retreat is our favorite place to go when we are looking to unwind and relax. We love sitting at the large bar when it's just the two of us, it is a great way to strike a conversation with some really nice people....we have met many! The food does have upscaled options beyond typical "bar food, a favorite of ours, is the chicken french with rice pilaf. Mostly, we enjoy the best wings around! A few other nice food choices for us has been the flat bread pizza or turkey Rachel. We love the atmosphere of a large bar, subtle lighting, lot's of tv's playing the game of the day and if it's not too crowded.. the tasteful music played at a level that allows you to carry on a conversation without shouting. We went for Sunday night football food. We haven't been there in awhile and things have changed. The potato skins were 1/2 inch potato pieces, super small considering I have never had a potato skin that wasn't really a half potato. The chicken fingers were a serving of 3 with a few fries. Cute hole in the wall bar. We had a few beers, chicken wings and a half garbage plate. The wings were awesome. Cooked perfectly well done, with the proper amount of sauce on them (sloppy, yum). I love any place that serves half a garbage plate because I can never finish a whole one. The beer selection is decent and the prices are reasonable. Our bartender was top notch and took great care of us. The bar is large and you can usually always find a seat at it. They also have a seating area with numerous tvs on the wall. Great for sports watching. Since we moved closer to Greece, we will be coming here more often. We needed to find a regular bar to go to and this might be it. If you're not into large crowds and packed bars, i recommend coming in and trying it out yourself, I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

I went here for my first time. We had the wings and the french onion soup. There was nice big wings but some of them were a little dry. They were the garlic parm ones. I have to have to have to go at-least 10 times a Month AT LEAST. Best chicken wings ever, best French fries ever, best mozzarella sticks ever and so much more. Service is great. Sometimes takes 5-10 minutes for walk ins to be seated. Food comes out in 10-15 minutes which is amazing for how great it tastes. So clean and is Rochester themed!! Very very great ambiance. I didn't think The Retreat was terrible before, but it had a bit too much in common with its neighboring bar: The Long Pond Pub. Well, The Retreat has now been reborn under new owners who actually give a crap! Amazing what a touch of interest and care can do to a place. The interior is nicely lit, but not too bright. The entry is way less congested, which must make things way better during holidays and weekends. The food was good before, but it seems to have improved with the new menu. Fried bar fare is not something to be struggled with, and these guys execute it with ease. Prices went up a tad, but it's absolutely worth it. The chicken wings are no joke. This little area near the Parkway didn't need another bar, but instead needed 1 of its 2 existing bars to step up its game. Those of us familiar with these bars knew that it pretty much HAD to be The Retreat, and I'm happy to see that they did it the right way. It now straddles between bar/restaurant quite well. You can have dinner with the family at 6pm, and come back alone at 10pm to yell at the QB of your fantasy football team. And for the times when you get divorced, fired, beat up, and audited by the IRS all in the same day.... Long Pond Pub is literally 10ft away for you to drown your sorrows in a more appropriate setting. No more redundancy! Everybody wins! read more

Nice little bar. Plenty of bar seating and enough tables as well prices are average and the food was really good. Pretty good selection of beers on tap. I ordered the half plate. Which I absolutely love this idea when I'm not starving but craving a plate. The hot sauce was pretty tasty with a good amount of spice but not too much. Would recommend and we will be back to try the wings sometime read more

It's definitely a simple place, with relatively average drinks and underwhelming bar food, but that's part of what makes me like it. I won't come here for a gourmet meal or for indulging drinks, but if I'm in the mood to get a few beers for a cheap price and spend time in a comfortable atmosphere, this is where I'll go. Their specials are also great. 40 cent wings on Monday, $2.50 pints, Buy one get one free appetizers... you get the point. Tip: Don't dress up if you're coming here. Everyone knows everyone there (partly because Greece is a small town and partly because this bar tends to cater to their regulars) and they will look at you funny if you are dressed in anything nicer than jeans and a t-shirt. read more

The Retreat is about on par with your average sports bar; they get bonus points for actively trying to establish a Bills gameday atmosphere. We came to the Retreat when the Bills were playing on Thursday night and not broadcast over-the-air, because apparently Rochester is considered a "local market" only if local markets are specifically excluded from being able to watch the game and not in the rare circumstances when they're specially included ... but I digress. The atmosphere was fantastic -- the bar was packed with Bills fans, and it is clear that the owner's goal is to become the-place-to-go for Bills games. Kudos to that. The tables were full hours in advance, and we stood in the absolute mob around the bar. Because many people couldn't watch the game at home, it was shoulder-to-shoulder. Great for high-five-worthy plays, but you do get knocked around a bit and squeezedverytight as others try to pass through or get to the bar. Adjacent to the bar area, there is an open dining area with low tables and chairs and two giant projection screens on one wall just over the heads of the diners. Under normal circumstances, this would have been fine, but the group seated directly in front of the screens had a visitor who was either bizarrely obtuse or inconsiderate -- she spent much of the game standing at the end of the table and single-handedly blocking all others' views ... even though there were usually empty seats around the table. (Granted, while many people loudly complained, nobody asked her to move.) Personally, I have an inordinate preference for projection screens over flatscreen monitors. If this isn't the most important thing to you, then The Retreat is a top spot. But in the future, I will choose a bar with an elevated screen so I can watch the game in all its ten-foot glory. read more

It is a great place to spend time when it is raining, snowing, or whatever outside with your family or with your friends. Owners are amazing! They rock! When we come here with our two sons, 11 years old and one year old, we are treated like a part of their family.
