What an excellent experience at this restaurant. We made reservations to celebrate our anniversary and without a doubt I made the perfect choice. Hearing how this restaurant Redd Wood shares the primary owner of Redd, Richard Reddington; I knew I wasn't not going to be disappointed since Redd is a favourite of mine. Starting off with a few appetizers, the deviled eggs were great. I can't say the caviar was necessary since we both didn't really taste it and the filling for the deviled eggs overpowered the texture and taste of the caviar, nevertheless we both enjoyed these. We also placed in an order for the tuna tartare. This came on sticky rice and had a primary flavour of sesame. The tuna was fresh, and it was a fantastic appetizer. The only disappointment we had with this dish is it states there is pear which we did not find throughout the dish nor taste. We saw they offered caprese which was done with burrata instead of fresh mozzarella which we found worked beautifully. Served with marinated tomatoes and a lovely balsamic vinaigrette, this was very refreshing. Now onto mains, I opted in the Prime NY Strip (14oz). This was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The steak itself was tender, juicy and seasoned perfectly. For a side, I opted in for the Pommes Aligot (potato purée & alpine cheese) and this accompanied my steak perfectly. I can confidently say that this is one of the best steaks I've ever had from any restaurant. We found our server, Scott to be a pleasure. First time visit with friends. We enjoy trying new restaurants together and typically order a variety of dishes that we can share. We were able to do this here. For the price, we were completely underwhelmed For starters, we ordered two different cocktails. The May queen was fabulous the bebbo was tasty, but you couldn't taste any gin in it We started with the Lyonnaise salad , smoked beets, Swedish meatballs, tuna tartare and chicken wings The salad was our favorite, the tuna lacked flavor and we detected no smokiness in the beets. The meatballs were light and the sauce flavorful, would've loved a few more June berries. Chicken wings were nicely spiced and no too saucy For the main we shared 2 steak frites- a bit more well done than the medium rare ordered but tender and tasty, fries are great- bordelaise sauce didn't have the depth of flavor I expected. For dessert we shared the lemon poppyseed cake and chocolate mouse. The cake was light and Lemony with a hint of poppyseed flavor. The mousse was very odd- super pale in color and the crunchy bits on top did not pair well with the texture of the mousse Service was attentive, sometimes a bit too much- reaching across the table to fill waters... maybe leave a bottle on the table? Redd Wood is one of those places where you can tell immediately... these people know exactly what they're doing. Let's start with the service because it really stands out. It's bar none. The servers are not just taking orders, they actually understand the menu, the ingredients, the pairings. You can ask questions and get real answers. At one point I thought, these aren't bartenders, they're scientists. The level of knowledge and attention to detail is just different. The food completely lived up to that same standard. Every single person at the table was happy with their meal, which honestly says a lot. No one was picking around their plate or wishing they ordered something else. The chef clearly knows what they're doing. Everything was thoughtful, balanced, and just really, really good. Quick note on dessert though. It didn't quite match the level of the rest of the menu. Not bad, just not on the same level. If you're trying to be strategic, you can probably skip it and leave happy. Parking is easy, which I always appreciate. You've got valet or you can self park, so no stress there. If you're in Rochester, you really can't skip Redd Wood. Redd Wood has transformed the Grenell's location into a classy, yet comfortable fine dining restaurant. Although we had been to Grenell's in the past, we didn't see any physical similarities! The bar has been moved horizontally across the back and there are two specious dining areas separated by a low partition. All very bright and inviting. We had French Onion soup and pate special for appetizers, chicken and halibut entrees, and desserts and all were outstanding, agreeing with previous reviews. Every experience here is always impeccable. From the ambiance, to the service and food, 12/10. I love how the interior is very classy and sets the mood without making the lighting too dim where I can't see my food. I also like how the menu rotates. Every dish we order is always so flavorful, delectable and cooked to perfection. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time as they usually get packed. The wild halibut was so tender and was paired so well. I prefer this restaurant over Redd as the service here is top notch. Reddwood is an absolute must-eat. Pricey? Yes. Worth every penny? Absolutely. The chef did an amazing job--every dish was spot-on. We had a reservation for 8pm for 4 people and our table was ready which was amazing not having to wait. They offer complimentary valet which makes showing up easy and seamless. The service was just as impressive as the food--from the assistant who started us with bottles of still water, to our attentive waiter who never rushed us but had the timing down perfectly, to the dedicated drink and food runners who kept everything flowing seamlessly. The filet mignon (medium rare) from the specials menu was cooked perfectly, melt-in-your-mouth tender. The French onion soup was rich and comforting, and the beef tartare had just the right hint of horseradish without overpowering the meat which was great. It also came with a coarse mustard which tasted amazing with the beef. We ended with the profiteroles for dessert - normally come in 3s but our server offered to add 4 since there were 4 of us dining (not pictured) and it was heavenly. Celebrating a birthday? They even brought it out with a candle! Cocktails were on point too--espresso martinis were smooth and balanced, and their house gin martini with Beefeater gin (a personal favorite) hit the spot. So was the brie app. Rolls were dry. Beef bourguignon was over cooked and too salty, beef cap was also overcooked. So this has been only open 6 weeks...I think they are doing amazing. We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation. They have valet parking if you would like that. So the lighting, ambiance and music are nice . Calming and pleasant for your dining experience. The two top table we had was plenty large enough and you did not feel crowded as if they tried to fill every bit of.space with tables. A big plus...easy to move about! Our waitress Sarah was kind efficient and knowledgeable. She did a great job They are full bar and plenty of wine! The beet salad appetizer was amazing with grapefruit arugula and goat cheese. Steak frites (well, not really since I subbed out the fries for a slightly healthier potato dish) & halibut were standouts and the French onion soup was well above average. As other have noted, steaks come out a touch on the more well done side, so if you are normally a steak lover pondering between medium-rare and medium, opt for medium rare here. Steak quality was exceptional. Excellent creme brulee and a tasty (but not very hot) cappuccino. What was lacking? We went to Redd Wood for my birthday and had a great experience. Definitely make a reservation--it's not a huge space, but the seating is nicely arranged, and there's a cool bar area in the back. Service was excellent. The staff really know what they're doing. We arrived about 15 minutes early and were seated right away. Pro tip: you can bring your own wine, and the corkage fee is very reasonable. I brought a bottle of Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame 2015, and they waived the fee! Such a kind gesture. The cocktail list is fun, and their wine, beer, and after-dinner drink menu is compact but well thought out. If the Parker House Rolls are on special, do not skip them. They're delicious on their own, no butter needed. We also had the Beef Tartare and French Onion Soup, all flavorful, well-prepared, and nicely presented. For my entrée, I had the Roasted Coq au Vin. The chicken was perfectly roasted and came with a rich red wine, mushroom, and lardon sauce, plus silky pommes purée (aka mashed potatoes, but next level). We ended with the house made profiteroles, which were the perfect sweet finish. It's a great spot for date night or a celebratory dinner with friends. It can get a little loud, but you can still hold a conversation without shouting. They offer valet parking, and it's worth calling ahead to see if there are other options nearby. The atmosphere was amazing for a classy upper scale spot for dinner. The drinks looked amazing (though I no longer drink), and the bartenders were fast and friendly. I ordered the beef tartar which was perfect. Then for my entree I had the duck confit which also was perfectly cooked. Dessert was the crème brûlée. Overall excellent dinner. They made sure our night started with a complementary glass of champagne to celebrate my birthday. First celebration dinner in 2026 for my birthday, as I received a gift card for this new edition to the Redd restaurants! Redd Wood open in the spring of 2025 replacing Grinnell's. Parking is via valet or your options are at Pinnacle Wine & Liquor t 2 doors down or across the street, we chose to park at Pinnacle (this is a great place too)! We started with the soup special cream of Broccoli and it was divine, I especially loved the goat cheese croquette in the middle. Then we had the wedge salad which was tasty but a bit too vinegary for me! The entrees came out next, I had the steak frites which was a crosscut filet mignon, medium rare, but it was a bit too rare for me. It was ready to gallop away in my opinion but the flavor was spot on, I substituted the potato purée for the french fries as I'm not a fan of fries, these were very tasty. My companion ordered a pasta special which had shredded beef and hot peppers, it was spicy and very tasty as well! I would return especially since their menu changes with the seasons! My drink was on a new drink menu as well it was delicious! They had numerous helpers clearing and cleaning the table! Everything was brought out promptly as well! This was our second visit to Redd Wood. We were warmly greeted by a tall gentleman upon entering. He took our winter coats and hung them in a closed closet and he promptly seated us with menus. Our server came quickly to ask for our water preferences. It did take quite some time to return with our cocktail orders and the "specials" page but we were not in any hurry. My spouse ordered the romaine salad which was quite plentiful and consisted of full leaves of perfectly dressed romaine leaves and homemade croutons. I ordered the tuna tartar, which served chilled on a bed of sticky rice and the perfect amount of seasoning and wasabi mixed in. (One of my fav things on the menu). For dinner I ordered the roasted chicken coq au vin which had come highly recommended be several friends. Although my picture doesn't do this dish justice, it was full of flavor and the chicken was perfectly cooked. My spouse had the wild halibut which was perfectly done and came with a creamy green sauce that had vegetable chunks and shelled mussels. The service is otherwise excellent and the ambiance is quiet but lively, I know that doesn't make sense but it's a beautiful atmosphere. Finally got a chance to check out Redd Wood! We have been to Redd, Richard Reddington's first Rochester restaurant , a few times, and were always reasonably pleased... but Redd Wood was a true cut above-- absolutely stellar. We started the meal with cocktails. They were fine, but I realized I probably should have looked at a scotch list first-- the options included a couple pretty great choices. My appetizer of an apple and Brie vol-au-vent was lovely, and my husband's tuna tartare was well-presented, tasty and generously portioned. He said the wasabi was done perfectly-- just a hint. He had bourride, a seafood special with shrimp, Calamari, and mussels in a creamy broth that he very much enjoyed. I ordered a strip steak and fries. The steak was cooked to medium just as ordered, and well seasoned. As crazy as it sounds, what I was really blown away by was the French fries! They came out hot, perfectly seasoned, and every single fry was well cut and well cooked-- not a one that was either too small, too big, or under or over cooked. It's such a simple thing, but shows the care that they put into service. We finished our meal with a piece of chocolate cake with pistachio and cherry. If I had to find one thing to complain about, it was that the cake was chilled and might have been slightly nicer at room temperature-- but I am certain that it would not actually be possible with the cream components. Nothing special about the bread. Most of the steaks were incredibly overpriced. A new gem in Brighton, NY, this restaurant is a well-oiled machine. Tucked in between a bunch of dreary looking buildings, the small yet formidable presence is clear from the street. From the moment you pull in, you're met with a warm welcome from the complimentary valet service staff. Inside, the ambiance is elegant yet not overbearingly formal. The staff are cheerful and clearly know their job roles. They all wore clean, crisp uniforms and were respectful and genuine, unlike so many places now that take on the fake hospitality persona (though it is most assuredly a tough business that can be tough to remain cheerful with so many tasks to get done). The food menu was presented clearly and concisely (designed with a nice touch of elegance) as were the specials by the server. The appetizers, main course, drinks, and dessert were all timely and it was evident the kitchen had a good flow going. The food itself was delicious and the items were nicely designed and plated. The portions were good and the value of the meal was on par with other great restaurants in the area. Overall, this was a great experience and would definitely return. This place is great. We had a reservation but showed up early and decided to grab a drink at the bar which was crowded. The bartender came from behind the bar to grab our drink order which was a nice gesture. Once seated we order brussel sprouts and rolls which were both very good. For our dinner we ordered the chicken dish which was very moist served over whipped potatoes, and the steak frites which was a filet. The steak was cooked perfectly and everything was seasoned great. For just opening, the experience was seemless. The service was very attentive, I leaned in when the waiter serving the table next to us described the dishes. He gave a lot more detail and totally sent me in the way of the specials. I started the night with the "old man and the sea", very good. The Coq a Vin was delicious, the pork chop special was better than delicious. The French onion soup was as described with caramelized onions, some places don't hit the mark here with over sized and under cooked onions, these onions were perfect the broth was rich. We ordered the duck and beef fritter appetizer special. For being confit they were quite dry and very meaty, thank goodness for the sauce and accompaniments. Putting French onion soup on them helped. The creamed spinach was very flavorful. The profiteroles at the end were fabulous. Big fans of Redd; wanted to try big sister restaurant. Verdict: really great vibe and service. Food was good not great (24 oz bone in rib eye was a tad overdone - past medium rare - and lacked satisfying crust;9 had better steaks at Redd and always prefer Max Chophouse). Special sea food stew (bourride) was very good with large shrimp and tender muscles and calamari in buttery well seasoned base. We enjoyed a decent rye-based cocktail and a layered chocolate cake was outstanding with a crunchy pistachio layer. All in all we had a great time. Arrived at 7:50 for a 7:45 reservation. Waited 20 minutes for a table despite the reservation. It seemed like every person who had a reservation had to wait for a while. Ordered and then waited. And then waited. Server seemed to avoid us, and the person bringing our forks told us it would be out "soon". 30 minutes later, we received our entrees at 9pm. Steak had no crust and didn't seem seasoned, and my girlfriend's pasta had more meat sauce than pasta. If you value your time and wallet, maybe go somewhere else. We certainly won't be back. Very nice atmosphere for our dinner with friends. Valet was easy And friendly. The host sat us at a table that had a slanted floor for one seat, so we moved to another table, which was fine. The waiter was ok, as was the support staff. However, having to ask for water to be refilled should not happen, and it did. Now to the food. The appetizers of Onion Soup, tuna tartare & beet salad were all excellent. For entrees, Two of us had the Halibut and two had the steak fritz. All of us said our dinners were excellent. The steak was perfectly cooked at MR, and tender with a nice side of bordelaise and fries crispy and hot. The halibut had a very nice sauce with corn that was also excellent. Cream brûlée and a pit fruit tart finished the meal with perfection. Bravo for the food and suggestion further training for the staff, but will definitely return. read more

We've been to Redd Wood multiple times since it opened. The food, ambiance and service are exceptional. Last night we had an absolutely incredible meal. We opted to try several specials including a king fish crudo with lemon basil oil, the very same king fish collar in the most delicious sauce, and perfectly pan seared Waygu steak with a slight crust from the sear and finished with flaky sea salt. We also were really happy we ordered the green beans as a side. They were smokey with some crunch for texture and another delicious sauce. Great martinis, excellent wine list, exceptional service, and we can walk from our house...what could be more perfect? Can't wait to go back and try more dishes. Had a 5:15 reservation on a Thursday and they were out of the skate fish on the menu, changed to halibut but only learned that after we ordered. Scallops were served with a lot of sauce that didn't have a lot of flavor. Octopus was kinda mushy but flavor was good. The wine pours were very light. Cocktails were fine. Atmosphere is fine but support staff seems pretty inexperienced and not particularly well trained. If the meal didn't cost almost 250 I would have no complaints but I've had many better meals that cost less. read more
