We are at Lila's since we were staying in the hotel that houses the restaurant. The atmosphere was very nice with a bar, indoor seating and a very nice outdoor air patio. The food was a little on the expensive side, which I find is normal for hotel dining, convenience usually costs a little more. We ordered an Old Fashioned and a meal to share. The waiter was attentive and helpful with ordering suggestions. The Toasted Faro Bowl was recommended as a favorite with plenty of food to share. The combination of flavors was very good. The pickled radish was very good. I will be going home and pickling some radish for salads and dishes. The portions size was fine, for the price it could have been a little larger. read more

This a very nice restaurant inside the downtown Hampton Inn. I had a comfortable seat at the bar, although it is a bit diffcult to more the bar stool out to get into it and back out after dinner. They are very heavy! I ordered the blackened salmon burger. It had a nice flavor, but not nearly as much salmon flavor as I expected. It was not blackened, nor did the salmon taste like cajun spice as the description says. The description says an "everything brioche". The top of the roll was covered in two kinds of seeds. When I picked it up, most of the seeds were suddenly all over my hands, no longer on the roll. Between the aioli and the seeds it was a very, very messy sandwich. While the description also says "pickles", I did not expect pickles inside my sandwich. There was a small container of very thinly sliced pickles on the plate too. My husband said the pickles inside the sandwich were different from the ones in the side dish, although both were dill. I did enjoy my very messy sandwich even though not flavored as described on the menu. The side salad had a nice flavor, but it was all field greens so difficult to get on my fork. We did very much enjoy watching the bartender make a variety of cocktails many of which required using the shaker and sieve. read more

Quick Take: Don't be intimidated by the swanky style, this can still be very family friendly. ---------------- After a long day at the Strong Museum the family just needed a place to land for food. My husband was looking at places all day, and took us to the darkest most uninviting bar known to man. I said absolutely not. I didn't have time to check out places, so we decided on the place in our hotel (Hampton Inn). Ambiance: Same seating as the hotel breakfast, but they opened the bar area, and even folded back the back wall to make a patio. There was a small horn band playing, so we opted to sit more in the lobby since it was a bit loud for the 5 yo. Pick your table wisely though, the Sun through those windows is a killer. Food: Decent options, I had a breaded chicken sandwich with fries. You can tell effort was made on both and not just throw in a fryer from the freezer. I don't know what was on the fries, but I was really enjoying them. Husband got the burger and he also enjoyed it. Kids Food: I very much appreciate a place with a good kids menu. Is it anything special, maybe not, but you can tell someone made the effort to remember the kids, and I think that tells a lot about an establishment. Walking through the hotel to get to Lila's, you wouldn't expect such a cool spot to lurk around the corner. The evening vibe of this place is unquestionably on point - dim lighting assisted by stylish fire elements, clean, modern furniture, intimately set tables, and a gorgeous bar. Dinner and drinks were ordered at the bar, then brought to the table relatively quickly. It was hard to pick just two cocktails as many on the menu sounded interesting. Thankfully, we picked well and both enjoyed our drinks which were not just tasty but also unique in their flavor profiles. The food itself is where things take a turn. The lobster rolls were very disappointing, with the seafood having a dry, crumbly (not in a good way) texture and lacking both richness and a significant amount of lobster. At times it felt more like eating a paste of fried panko bread crumbs, as there was no meatiness to the lobster so the consistency was overwhelmingly bread crumbed. It was a letdown on its own, but factoring in the high price of the dish, I can't say I'd ever order it again. The chips on the side were honestly more enjoyable than the sandwich. The pork belly sliders were better than the lobster rolls, and had a nice sweetness to them. There is a mild kick of heat but the overall profile is definitely more honeyed than anything else, even with the pickled vegetables adding a little tartness. They seemed a little inconsistent in how much each slider had, as one of them barely had any pork, but overall I would order this dish again as something I know is solid. That being said, again the price of $24 for what was essentially 2.5 sliders is a couple dollars too high. Despite the middling opinion of the food, I would definitely go back to Lila's, as I see a lot of potential. Lila's may be more ideal if you go with the intention of getting drinks and just having a small late night bite, as opposed to a full dinner. But we'll give it another shot and see how it goes. read more

It's a very nice and modern looking restaurant inside the Hampton Inn Downtown Rochester. There are a number of tables, but behind a huge glass wall. With the sunshine too bright and definitely too warm. The bar has about 12 seats;very comfortable bar stools. Not easy to get in or out though, they are heavy. I ordered the blackened salmon burger. It took a bit long to arrive, even though the restaurant was not really busy. The roll was an everything brioche with seeds on the outside. It's not clear to me what they did with the roll, but after picking it up, my hands were really greasy and all the seeds were on my fingers. The 3 inch square salmon patty had a nice flavor, but I didn't notice the blackened at all. Cajun spice, smoked maple aioli, shredded lettuce and dill pickles. Sloppy to eat. There were dill pickles inside the burger, but there was also a little dish with skinnier dill pickles (and a different taste) on the plate. I choose chips with my burger. A generous serving of very crispy chips, but I think there was a bit too much salt on them. read more

Wow! What an unexpected find for us. We took our granddaughter to the Margaret Woodbury Strong Museum of play and stayed in the hotel next door which had Lila's in it (pronounced Lee-Lahs). Excellent $2 oysters during happy hour, great food and some decent wine which wasn't overpriced for a restaurant. We would stay again, just to eat at Lila's - and not need to drive home. read more

I'm not someone who leaves reviews often -- so when I do, it's either really good or really bad. Unfortunately, this one falls hard into the latter category. I came in hoping for a quick, casual dinner while visiting from Rochester. What I got instead was a masterclass in how not to run a restaurant. I sat at the bar for 25 minutes without so much as a hello. Not even a "be right with you." Just...ignored. I figured maybe the bar was understaffed, so I tried switching to a table. Somehow, the service was even slower. When the food finally did come, it was a total letdown -- bland, overpriced, and absolutely not worth the wait. I had to practically beg for the check just to escape. It honestly felt like no one working there wanted to be serving food, drinks, or customers. There are at least five better spots within walking distance -- I suggest you pick any one of them. I'll never come back. This place should be embarrassed to call itself a restaurant or bar. Don't let the location fool you! Despite being in a Hampton Inn, the food is amazing, and the drinks were delightful. They have $1 oysters Monday-Friday between 5-7 pm (only one offering each night, but both nights were excellent). Tuesdays is live music so it was pretty busy, and there was live jazz music Thursday (not sure if it's just during nicer weather that they do jazz). Over our two evenings staying at the hotel we had tuna tartare, smoked trout dip (evening special), cauliflower sticky bites with the honey gochujang sauce and smoked blue cheese crumbles, as well as the soup of the day (absolutely delicious creamy watercress) along with a grilled cheese. If you like hot sauce, they make their own; it's fermented, super balanced with a nice amount of umami (soy sauce?). We were basically ordering food around what we could add the sauce to- if they bottled and sold it, I'd buy it but the gallon. All our cocktails were delicious, and staff are all super friendly. Clientele is a mixture of business travelers and local folks meeting up after work. They had the patio open our second night as it was warmer, complete with induction heaters. We would definitely eat here again if we were in the area! PS: while we didn't see any kiddos while we were here, they do have a kids menu. read more

She was cranky, I was tired, we both just wanted some food and to go back up to our hotel room to get some rest. Not wanting to go out and find food, I thought we would just resort to the restaurant at the hotel. Guys, I would not call it "resorting" to anything. The food served at Lila's is beyond delicious. I got the pork belly baos and my daughter got the mac and cheese. Both were so so so good. The service here is also exceptional and the waitstaff and bartenders always go above and beyond. During our stay, I noticed a lot of people taking advantage of having a hotel bar and restaurant. I discovered Lila's Restaurant (in the Hampton Inn, Rochester) last summer. It is unique for a restaurant & bar in that there's a covered patio, seating for ~40+ diners, with ceiling heat lamps in the event of a chilly evening. The food is inventive with a rotating menu and a Martini "Happy Hour" 3-6p each weekday with $1 oysters; the reason I began frequenting there regularly. The staff is courteous & attentive and the bartenders are skilled and have invented a number of specialty cocktails that I've never heard of before; my favorites are the "El Guapo" and "Cortes Curse". They have a regular Jazz series Tuesdays featuring many of the areas most notable musicians. Definitely worth checking out when you're in the area. read more

Lila's (pronounced "Leelah's") is easily one of the top new bars in Rochester. As a bar/restaurant for a hotel in the newly built area near the Strong Museum of Play, you might overlook it, but that would be a mistake. The first thing I have to mention is the food. The food here is just incredible - flavorful and adventurous. They clearly have a chef that takes pride in crafting a unique and deeply enjoyable menu. I've have the wonderful opportunity to sample most of the items on the menu, and would have taken everything home if I could have. The top standouts for me were the Caramelized Vidalia Onion Dip, Maine Lobster Roll, and Braised Short Rib. Full of complex flavor, they were a delightful experience to enjoy. And I NEED to know what was in that short rib sauce. On top of the food, the drinks and the bar area could be a reason to go by themselves. They hold a Martini Hour on weekdays 3-6pm, and they have some of their most interesting drinks around this time. The Clover Club (gin, raspberry, lemon, and eggwhite) was my personal favorite. It feels like there is a little something for everyone here. They even have a kids menu for the little ones, and they have several vegan and gluten free options labeled on the menu. This would be one of my top choices for a date night or a girl's night out. read more

We ate here because we were staying in this hotel (Hampton Inn & Suites), our flight arrived late, and we were starving. Our party consisted of my husband, me, our 10yo son, and our 7yo daughter. It was 9:00 on a Saturday night. The place was busy, with only one table for four left. We were warmly welcomed and told to order at the bar. The place was hip and beautiful, and I was so pleased to see that they not only had an exciting and varied menu with many healthy options, but they had a creative and exciting kids' menu, too! My kids really loved it! My son got a fancy "lunchable" with prosciutto, amazing cheese, Ritz crackers, apple slices, caramel, and Oreos. My daughter got deluxe Mac and cheese (she loved the twirly noodles) and the server brought us a dish of lovely sliced cucumber for her (we ask our kids to eat a fruit or veggie with their meal). My husband had the chicken sandwich, and it was enormous and dripping with sauce. He absolutely enjoyed it. I had the kale salad with the Shawarma chicken on top, and it was divine! An explosion of great flavors, fantastic textures, and it was so healthy! I got the Hawaiian rolls to go with it, and they were a revelation. So good, and so fresh! The kids and I got blueberry house sodas, and they were the perfect combination ofsweet and tart. My husband got a wheat beer and enjoyed it so much he had another, which he doesn't usually do.
