Portuguese beer at Cascais Remo
Bruce K.

A few bumps with my lack of Portuguese and their lack of English, despite the English menu. I was finally able to successfully order a beer and point to my neighbor's amazing plate of bacalhau with vegetables. It was about 30 minutes from then until my dinner arrived. Perhaps because I was a table for one where a big party of ten in the center who arrived after me had several platters come and go? None-the-less, I enjoyed my beer and then dinner. The fish was absolutely delicious though it took some serious work to pick out the many many bones. I guess that's just how they do it over here. A tasty meal in a very local restaurant in the city center of Lisbon. [Review 19053 overall - 247 in Portugal - 22 of 2023.]

Love this lil' spot - it seems to be a locals favourite and I think they were surprised to see my group here (four tourist asian girls). But we saw they had great reviews so we decided to give it a try. The guys running this shop are super friendly and tried their hardest to understand us with the language barrier (we only speak English, they only speak Portuguese). All of the food was fresh, made with love, and with huge portions. It's also very affordable. Get the octopus rice -- it's to die for.

Incredible seafood and service executed on a small scale Portuguese dominant cuisine that is simply divine, fresh and light at a super reasonable price!! DO NOT MISS this little gem of a restaurant just off Avenida Liberdade!! The grilled squid and sardine platters were

Amazing local food. Great local hospitality. We came back several times for lunch and dinners.

Sardines (sardinhas)

We had a delicious lunch at a local, small restaurant. It was very busy between 1 pm and 2 pm. My husband had a sausage dish and I enjoyed very fresh sardines. Servers were attentive and we did need a translator a few times as we are not familiar with the local language.

This was a nice local restaurant near my hotel I tried one night. It was packed with locals from the neighborhood and no one spoke English but they were very kind and helped me through their selections and were very attentive. I had a snapper dish which was very good and the portion was so large I could barely eat it. Had chocolate mousse for desert which was very good. I would highly recommend this small restaurant to get a tru taste of local flavor.

Mixed salad - enough for a meal!

Wonderful local restaurant with amazing fresh fish! My mixed salad was huge and fresh. Arrive before 7 if you don't want to wait for a table. The staff was very friendly and spoke English. We had two beers, grilled fish with salad and potatoes, and a large mixed salad for $20. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Grilled salmon - very well seasoned and delicious

This place was right around the corner from our hotel so we decided to give it a try on a rainy day which also happened to be the last of our visit. The service was good, even though the owner (I assume) did not speak much English. They did have an English menu. My husband and I ordered grilled fish: salmon for me and sea bass for him. We've had fish and/or other seafood almost every meal for the whole week, but what the hell right? Our last meal, might as well do it one more time. We opted for rice and salad instead of fries/potatoes like we've been eating all week. My salmon was very good. It was perfectly seasoned. The sea bass was good and fresh but my husband wasn't in love with it. We had chocolate mousse for dessert and it was on the sweeter side for me so I didn't like it. I'd recommend this local joint if you're in the area. Good traditional fresh food for a good price as opposed to some other fancier establishments who would charge you way more for the same thing. 2 entrees, a water bottle, a beer, a dessert, and a small bottle of vihno verde for under 30€! Cash only.

This was our first official meal in Lisbon, a reservation for 9:45 pm dinner on a Wednesday, and it was a great introduction to Portuguese food. The street at the entrance was empty and quiet, and there weren't many people inside, presumably because it was late. Service was excellent, they were very nice, told us to take our time despite our late reservation. Pumpkin soup was the appetizer, and it was delicious. Creamy and hearty but somehow not heavy, with some tomato and meaty flavor that went well with the sweet pumpkin. Comes with some seeds and bread that you can dip the soup with. 5/5 Octopus-comes with some green peppers, quinoa, and a tomato paste/puree that gives it a light, slightly sweet, slightly spicy taste that went very well with the octopus. This is a great summer dish. Interestingly the thin end of the octopus was not that crispy, maybe that was the intention, but the entire tentacle taste and texture was pretty homogenized. 4.5/5 Risotto- also has pumpkin, but more savory with cheese and butter, topped with leek and I belive has mushrooms. Not sure how they're getting away with using heavy ingredients coming together to become a light dish, but they're pulling it off perfectly. Price was also very reasonable. We did get asked about tip, which not all restaurants in Lisbon do, but we felt tip was deserving at this establishment.

The food and service were exceptional. I recommend Sopa de Pedra. Best I've ever had and served it in a creative way. Service was attentive and polite and generous. I wanted to eat there every night but as a tourist I simply couldn't repeat. I wanted to return. I hope they succeed they are special.

The food across the board was excellent--every dish we tried was flavorful, well-prepared, and felt thoughtfully put together. You can tell there's real intention behind both the menu and execution. What really elevated the experience, though, was our waiter, Bernardo. He brought incredible energy to the table--full of personality, engaging, and genuinely fun to interact with. At the same time, his service was top-notch: attentive without being overbearing, helpful with recommendations, and clearly passionate about what he does. Great food is one thing, but when you pair it with service like that, it turns into a memorable experience. Highly recommend--and if you get Bernardo, you're in for a great time.

I had read in Yelp that lines could be long, but we arrived early. They have a little red rope at the door where they explain the rules. The interior is kind of eclectic. They have wines at three price points, we got a really nice bottle of red called Pops reserve. For the tapas, we ordered the assorted cheeses, octopus risotto, duck breast with chips (not normally on the menu), and ceviche. All were superb. We started with the duck and ceviche. The duck was braised perfectly and seasoned well, wonderful. Then the ceviche had swordfish and tuna. I am not normally a sword fan, but this was very tasty. Next up were the cheese and risotto. The risotto was incredible, buttery and delicious. The cheese plate had 5 cheeses of different intensity. All were great, particularly the goat ones. It came with a pumpkin jam which I had never had before, but was very good. I definitely recommend this place
