Mesón Andaluz ended up being a really lovely experience for us. The service was thoughtful and kind. My mom has a stomach condition and wasn't able to eat much, and the waiter didn't hesitate to prepare simple boiled potatoes for her. It wasn't a big production, just genuine care, which meant a lot to us. He also shared details about their olive oil, which was excellent, and even sent me off with a small wine souvenir. The paella was delicious, and the inside of the restaurant is cozy and welcoming. We left feeling taken care of and happily fed. We stayed at a hotel up the street from this restaurant and walked by it a few times. It has such a cute set up outdoors perched on stairs. On our first date night we were served by the lovely SARA, she was so friendly and sweet. Food was amazing! We had a few tapas , octopus (a must) and their seafood rice (also a must!!! ) Highly recommend. Everything was so good that we came back our last night with our kids. Our kids are little and they went out of their way to accommodate them. We were served by RICARDO and he was also so great. Such a memorable experience, we even got to say goodbye to SARA again, and introduce her to our kids. Now, we basically feel like we are family. Our reservation was at 6pm on a Friday evening and it was a little bit of a rough start. When we arrived, only a few workers and we can see they are trying to accommodate everyone, including us. We had the option of sitting outside or inside. As we were trying to the crowd and have a nice quiet last meal before we fly home in the morning, we opted for the inside table. Fernando offered us the only table by the window and it was all uphill from there. A small table nestled at the window. No other customer in the whole restaurant for majority of our dinner. We saw everyone hustling around all night but we also did not as well. Almost white nose after a while. We did the full wine pairing prefixed menu at 90euros pp. insane as we have never enjoyed such meal in the US for less than $200pp. Every course was introduced by Fernando and made sure we had our wine to accompany it and checked up on us to make sure we enjoyed every single dish. I don't know how one does not. Each dish had amazing flavors and sauces with perfect wine to pair. The restaurant did not hold back on the quantity on top of the quality provided. I was so full that each dish, I had only a few bite and cannot finish or I won't enjoy the next one. Marina introduced herself and would also be assisting Fernando. During my trip to Portugal, I stumbled upon this incredible restaurant which was across from my flat. It seemed quite busy with people going in and out of the restaurant as well as dining outside--bearing a super cute outdoor setting. When I walked in, I was quickly greeted by the manager of the restaurant, and sat within a few minutes. The indoor ambience is very cool. It has a very stately and historical vibe. Let's just say they got their branding right! I decided to start with the Patatas Bravas, which I've had plenty of times in the US, though I had a feeling they would be a bit different here. Boy, I was right... They were on a whole new level of amazing! I wish I would've asked for the recipe since I can't experience them again until I revisit Portugal. Rating is between 4-5 stars, but what made me give it 4 is that it's a little takes advantage of tourists. Let me explain why: - This is the only restaurant we we went to that didn't ask if we wanted bread and served it with the surcharge. Others asked if we wanted it first so we could decide first. - This was also the only restaurant that asked if we wanted to add tip to the bill. It was optional and I was glad that when I declined they weren't rude about it all. But I overheard the table next to us tipped 20% as that's the norm in the US, but didn't really know that it's not necessary in Portugal. As for the food, it was very good. - Tortilla Superior - was nicely made with soft eggs, which was a nice twist - Goat cheese pouches were liked by all - I mean how do you screw up cheese and honey - Fois gras escalop was of course lovely - Oxtail was very good. Soft, succulent and a very good sized serving. Maybe the most oxtail in a dish I've had. - Cod fillet was very well cooked, but the chickpea puree was just ok. Kind of like hummus, but not quite, so it was a little hard to peg. Maybe needed a little more seasoning. Wonderful dining experience. Service was incredible. Once we decided on a couple dishes to share, our server paired wines with each nicely. Starting with a salad highlighted by figs and duck was very good. Presentation was beautiful. Dressing was a little too spicy for my liking, but still delicious. Next we shared a charcuterie board. We were very happy with the variety included. Ending our evening with dessert, I opted for the traditional pudding. Definitely unique in flavor and very enjoyable. First dinner in Lisbon set the tone for the amazing food we'd be having. Truffle butter and bread - they charge for bread in Lisbon. Order it. This truffle butter was excellent Oxtail croquets - a bit dry. Not my fav, but everything else made up for this. Papa bombs - patatas bravas served as individual "bombs", filled with brava sauce. Delicious. Tuna two ways - really amazing seared tuna and raw tuna. Get this. We had a bottle of white wine also which was recommended by the serve and excellent. Both servers were amazing. Beautiful restaurant with very good food. Came here tonight for some Tapas and wine. Actually didn't think we could get a table but we did. Our server was good , there was a slight error from the kitchen when they brought the wrong dish, it was corrected but no one took responsibility. Tuna 2ways - pan seared Tina with Sesame, Caramelized onions and pistachios. Melts in your mouth good. Piquillo Peppers with Cod Fish - good- peppers stuffed with cod fish. The flavor was nice but the remoulade sauce on top was a little too rich for my taste. Seared Scallops over a Cauliflower Purée - crisp and perfect. Cauliflower mash was light & delightful and full of flavor. My only issue besides no one taking responsibility for the food error, was the 6.50 euros charged for water. Yes I know I need to pay for water, but when there's no price on the menu and it's normally 3 euros in every other restaurant, I laugh and say " charged the stupid tourist tax on this one". read more

We went on a food tour earlier in the week and our guide recommended this place for tapas and a need for gluten free options. Our guide couldn't have picked a more perfect place. Our server Sylvester was amazing! He was so careful in helping pick options for my daughter who has to eat gluten free. Every dish was a hit and he did a great job of spacing the plates out. He also helped us pick out a fantastic wine based on our likes. It was a memorable evening. The place is beautiful and like I said, I cannot recommend Sylvester enough! The faves were the charcuterie and the patata brava bombs. Sylvester even brought gluten bread for our daughter and made sure it was kept separate from the regular bread. It was delicious! This is a wonderful experience off the beaten touristy road in Lisbon! The food here is absolutely delicious. We had the shrimp, the octopus, the potato brava bombs, the wild mushrooms and the fried squid which were all unique and extremely flavorful. I would strongly recommend this restaurant for the flavors alone!! But what really stood out for me was the extremely attentive service from all the staff, especially Sara, as well as the manager gentleman. Amazing tapas restaurant! Everything we ordered was delicious. I only wish we had more stomach space to try more. The tuna two ways and the squid frits were stand outs. We ate al fresca in their outdoor dining area along a quaint cobblestone stairway that has space heaters and even blankets. It felt cozy and intimate even though it was in a public area. Our waiter was very friendly and informative, steering us towards what were, in his opinion, the better dishes. He even politely told us when we ordered enough (I was hankering to try more!) and he was spot on. He even brought out a local "green wine" not on the menu at a great price by the glass. Great place. We came here at the recommendation of one of my partner's coworkers and were very glad we did. Have a reservation! We were actually turned down the first night we tried to go here and made one in time for the next night. The place is not huge and you'll likely be in close proximity to others. Since they're tapas, order accordingly. We got the gambas al ajillo, patata brava bombs, oxtail bonbons, and puntillitas aioli. The gambas al ajillo were very good, although the shrimps were definitely swimming in a pool of garlic oil so maybe avoid this if you're trying to eat something light. The patata brava bombs and bonbons were both delicious - would highly recommend them. I would swap out the puntillitas aioli if I could go back in time - they were good but nothing particularly special. For dessert, I had a flan which was delicious, and my partner had a pudding (which I unfortunately can't remember the name of) but it was also great! It had a very unique taste and our server said it was the "most authentic local dessert", for what it's worth. I would definitely come back! read more

A hidden gem in Lisbon!! This was my favorite trip after being in Lisbon/Europe. They have cute outdoor seating with blankets. Also the best calamari I've had in a LONG time, and I eat a lot of calamari. A spectacular experience! On our last night in Lisbon this place was a real treat. The atmosphere was relaxing and authentic. The food was incredible. The location is outstanding if you can get a table outside. You are seated in the middle of a small connecting road/path in between two more major roads. There is a beautiful huge set of steps to get down to the area, which also has really cute and unique seating for drinks. The food (mainly tapas) is fresh and delicious. We reserved our table the same day, and we were so glad we were able to get in. We sat out on the patio and enjoyed our drinks and food very much. We had tuna two ways, garlic shrimp, and scallop shared plates. All terrific, but the tuna stood out. I'm sometimes hesitant with rare tuna, but this was an amazing burst of flavors and texture. Highly recommend. The waitstaff worked as a team to take our orders and serve our food. They were very friendly and efficient. The patio itself is quite lovely. I visited this restaurant back in November of 2021, on my last day at Lisbon. Loved the interior decor, the employees were very friendly, and the service was great also. The food was great too, beside the shrimp in oil dish. that dish was very salty, also they didn't remove the dirt/vein from the shrimp. So, I couldn't eat it. My friend and I also shared a rice dish which I didn't like. However, she said she liked it. The scallops and the tuna dish were really great. I would definitely love to go back there if I am visiting Lisbon again in the future. I saw another customer having the paella and it looked really good. Unfortunately my wife and I are allergic to shrimp/prawns, so prior reviews recommending the garlic shrimp and the pallella (which clearly notes it includes "shellfish") didn't work for us. The meal was amazing anyway after a day of hiking around Sintra before our return to Lisbon. The style is "classic" (rich and heavy) entrees, and light tapas with a Portuguese spin. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and very interested and excited about wine, which was great for helping us pick an interesting and good wine for our meal. After our meal he recommended some vertical pours of Port to go with our dessert. The space is huge and all outdoors on stairs and landings. There are delays in service that are rather typical of Portuguese and Spanish dinners, but nothing extreme and fine for relaxed dinners. read more

So good we went back twice! The outdoor ambience is lovely since the restaurant is situated in one of those charming alleyways with steps. I'm sure there's a word for this in. Portuguese but you get the idea. This is a perfect spot for lunch outdoors on a nice day. Loved the tuna two ways, scallops over cauliflower purée, duck salad and potatas bravas. I will say that our lunch experience outdoors was a bit nicer than dinner. The service was more efficient and the outdoor setting is just so pleasant. When we went back for dinner, the service was a bit slower and the indoor dining area, while super charming, is a brightly lit which makes the ambience a bit less cozy. Really excellent Tapas restaurant. Possibly the best meal we had during our Lisbon trip. Great location with plenty of people hanging out, eating and drinking on the steps outside that the restaurant has appropriated for al fresco dining with cushions and mini tables. We ate inside because we booked late. However, the food uniformly imaginative and delicious. We had 5/6 plates between us, any one of which could have been the centerpiece of a meal on its own so, like all tapas, it's very much down to personal taste although the standout item for me were the prawns. Service was friendly, swift and knowledgeable and the wine turned out to come from a vineyard owned by a member of the family. And it too was good. One for future reference for sure. read more
