We were welcomed by a couple really friendly and funny young lady servers and ours was especially so cute, helpful, and funny to talk and mess with!! Wife had a great green wine and I got a huge sangria for one that was great and fruity. She ordered a "seafood rice" served invite own metal crock packed with octopus and stuff that she couldn't finish. I got the steak and chips (fries) and a perfectly sunny side egg on top (13.70 Euros). She loved hers and my server made sure mine was truly medium rare leaving it cooked and not bloody yet swimming in juice. Beware in Portugal sometimes the "steak" is a fillet if you don't confirm first like this one. So glad I went med rare!! Perfectly cooked fries too. These ladies were actually from Nepal and we enjoyed talking with them about that and we joked a lot. It was a fun welcoming lunch. Two police officers dined next to us talking with the Portuguese owner so it's a mix of locals and tourists. It's right in the center of it all and convenient. Large menu and great service. Sintra is a beautiful small town in Portugal not too far from Lisbon that cannot be missed. It has managed to keep a cute and charming vibe while staying grounded in its Portuguese roots. TS offers authentic Portuguese cuisine, even a step further with offering dishes authentic to Sintra. If you are looking to have some authentic Portuguese food while on your travels, this is a good spot to try. However, authentic doesn't always mean inclusive. While they did have vegetarian options, they were quite limited. I was restricted to vegetable "empanadas" (which were essentially two mini pot pies) and a side salad. My boyfriend on the other hand had a more enjoyable experience with his octopus and fries and sangria... We were able to unite for dessert (lol) and tried a trio of Portuguese desserts along with a travesseiro, a dessert unique to Sintra made with puff pastry, egg yolks, almonds and sugar. We weren't a fan of the trio---which included a "fig ball", marzipan shaped like corn on the cob, and a nut-based dessert. As for the travesseiro, we were huge fans! The dough was light and flaky and had a sufficient amount of custard filling without it feeling like too much. When I was in Porto, I was able to have traditional Portuguese food that was vegetarian and vegan-friendly, and so I don't see why it would be difficult to offer more vegetarian-friendly options. It may call for some creativity, but if the chefs can gather inspiration from the city that surrounds them, I'm sure it can be a fun "task". read more

Joined a tour in Sintra and we were dropped here for lunch. They have two locations within walking distance of each other. We had the Polvo à Tasca/Grilled Octopus and Bochecha de Porco/Pork Cheek in red wine. Both dishes were a disappointment. The grilled octopus was unpalatable, texture was border mushy which may be stale. Pork Cheek was a better choice although not impressive. Mashed potatoes served with it had a sour aftertaste. Overall: A pleasant surprise in the heart of "downtown" Sintra. The good: Tons of options to choose from. We split the sausage tapa, which was put aflame in front of us and seared to perfection. The several different types of sausage were each unique and delicious. My wife got the shrimp acorda while I had the francesinha, both of which were hearty and flavorful. The francesinha had a healthy amount of sauce, was stuff with ham and sausage, and had a perfectly cooked egg on top. We both had leftovers for the next day. Service was friendly and helpful, and the prices are reasonable. The not-so-good: Not much, just not a 5-star "mind blowing" experience. That said, we certainly enjoyed our meal. We were in the area doing a day long tour and lunch is on your own. Several restaurants/cafes to choose from but this was the first we came across. Tables inside and out so we grabbed a table under an umbrella outside with a view of the castle. We had to make sure they had gluten free options for my grown daughter. Our server Nuno was wonderful. Pretty much what you'd expect at a tourist eatery smack dab in the middle of the crowded commotion of the main drag. Miniscule tables crammed together. Rock hard metal stools. I literally could not move my legs once I got crammed into the seat. If you are above average weight, height or disabled, you will not be comfortable maybe not even able to be accommodated. Portuguese menu with all the usual suspects. Bambie and I ordered 4 items. The asorda (bread based stew) was fairly awful. My prega frango (chicken sandwich) had the worst bread I've eaten in Portugal. It was like a frozen store bought English muffin. Gazpacho was fresh tasting, if a bit generic. Bambie liked her cabbage soup. Sangria was okay if a bit too sweet. Dessert cheese was a pitifully small slice. Staff competence ranged from good to one stoner guy who forgot everything the moment he walked away. By the time you read this review I'm sure that he will be long ago terminated. There are at least 15 other eateries within 100 meters of this place. Go explore those. read more

Run, don't walk to this AMAZING restaurant. I'll begin from the time I entered. I had just visited all of the palaces and needed to charge my phone, they said of course and I was seated right away at a table between the inside and outside of the restaurant. I ordered a drink (port) and tapa from the manager and the tapa came before the port, service is a little slow (Mariner just for me), but the food takes up for it. Literally everything I had was amazing the only comment is that the octopus salad was a little salty. Once the manager didn't return, I started ordering more food from the other service members and they kindly put it in the system. Everyone and everything was fast. I would highly recommend. One of my fav meals in portugal. Afonso was my server and he's a young man who speaks great English. He was so great. Kind and gave me great recommendations. Meal totals as €23 and I got bread and olives, cheese covered ham sandwich with fries, and a chocolate cake with ice cream. It was all sooooo good for my final meal here. The sandwich is so good. I couldn't believe that it actually was all covered in melted cheese. I loved dipping the sandwich in the sauce surrounding or dipping fries in. Fries were warm and not too salted. The sandwich is one of the more less expensive dishes but super filling and delicious! If you're hungry, get it! Bread and olives were good. Bread was a little toasted. The olives were prime and they had these unique orange form chewy things that weren't olives but I liked them even better than the olives. The cake was the perfect end. We dined here for Sunday lunch today. Our tour guide recommended this restaurant. It's located in the historic and charming old town of Sintra. Parking was a challenge but that can be expected for historic towns. The restaurant is small and features both outdoor dining and indoor dining. We dined indoors. The restaurant dining area was clean and decorated beautifully. The menu has options for carnivores, pescatarians and vegetarians. The wine and beer selection are great and priced affordably. We ordered the recommended white wine of Contacto Alvarinho. It was well balanced and medium dry with light sweetness. We ordered a variety of tapas to share. We ordered the chicken pie empanadas, the codfish fritters with black eye peas, cheese gratin with pumpkin jam and walnuts, garlic shrimp and octopus salad. The food was sufficient to feed the three of us. All food was fresh, delicious and authentic. Service was friendly and attentive. We sat at the window and enjoyed views of the beautiful historic buildings and people watching. Prices were reasonable and in line with a high demand tourist destination. In fact our guide pointed out that this place has slightly lower prices than adjacent restaurants but features better food and atmosphere. Great place to stop while in Sintra. We came here after a long day exploring castles. It was busy and is on the main road. The food was delicious--we had the octopus and the squid in the butter rice. Another wonderful place to spend a few hours over a lunch or dinner in Portugal but specifically in Sintra. Located in the lower part of the main square as you enter the town, it is super convenient to the train station and to the much traveled road up the mountain to the castle. We were not expecting much given its location in a heavy tourist site but the owner was amazingly friendly and welcoming, adjusting tables and chairs to accommodate our request to sit outside given the ongoing COVID pandemic. The owner is also an enophile and has a large collection of wines and he will act as your unofficial sommelier. He recommended 2 fantastic wines for us to pair with our lunch. I had the simplest meal of the family, the broad beans with Portuguese sausage, black pork sausage, and ham. Super rich and flavorful and I was even able to convince myself, healthy since I was eating beans. LOL. My daughter had the classic Portuguese sandwich, a Francesinha. This rich and filling sandwich is made of a Portuguese ham, a slice of steak, and cheese between t thick slices of white bread covered in a rich beer sauce. Thank goodness it comes with french fries to dip. My son had the steak sandwich with an over-easy egg which was good though I don't know what else to say about it as it is pretty self explanatory. And my wife went for the cabbage sausage soup, also tasty. For dessert, we shared the apple pie a la mode, a great end to a fantastic meal on the square in the town of Sintra. If you are in Sintra and are looking for a great meal that is affordable and in a place owned and managed by a really nice gentleman, I recommend trying this place. read more

Unpitted Olives customary & not like the larger, salted Spanish Olives, ( that I personally prefer). The bread was just ok, nothing, spectacular there. On our visit to Sintra we were looking for a small place to eat after leaving the Pena Castle, Saw an open table at Tasca. My wife and I were extremely happy with an amazing meal and wine. The staff was very vigilante and extremely kind with excellent service. I had the dish called Trilogy or something to that effect. The scrambled eggs with Farinheira sausage was one of the best things I have ever tasted in Portugal. And that's quite a statement if you have enjoyed the many great dishes there. After staying a few days in Lisbon, we decided to spend our last day on a trip to Sintra to see the gorgeous palaces and castles in the area. But before we headed off to visit the palace, we decided to have lunch at Tasca Saloia, a cafe located in downtown Sintra. The menu at Tasca Saloia was pretty big for a small cafe and included a variety of Portuguese dishes. Even though we had been in Lisbon for a few days, we hadn't seen many restaurants that offered the type of food we saw on this menu so we were excited to try some of the dishes out! Peito de frango recheado com espinafres e farinhe Although this was made with chicken breast, it wasn't dry because the filling and tomato based sauce helped it stay juicy. We didn't know that it would come with sauce but were glad that it did because it was soo flavourful! It also had a nice clump of steamed spinach to add more greenery. The fries it came with were interesting though because they were thin cut and quite pale in colour. We've never seen fries like this before but they tasted as you would expect. Chicken pie We got these cute little chicken pies because Mother deer saw another table get them and wanted to try it too. These pies had nothing on the one we had at Harrod's tea room because the pie crust was too thick which made the filling fade into the background. read more

I was in a tour group and I had an hour of free time and decided to grab a snack and a beer. The place looked good so I sat outside. I ordered a beer and an item off the suggestions on the chalkboard. The waiter (he was older, may have been a boss) suggested I order a different, pricier item because it would be better. I said okay and my beer was served right away. That was our last contact. I waited over thirty minutes for my food and watched two tables get seated and served food while I was waiting. One table even got the item I originally wanted and it looked excellent. At this point I gave up on getting served and went inside to pay. Saw the guy and told him that I never got my food. We got turned away without a reservation for one place so we walked into town. The outside of this place had a warm yellow sign near the square but away from the kitschy touristy places. There was no yelp review but TripAd reviewed it well so we gave it a try. They're good and English-friendly which is all we can ask for after 2-3 bad dining experiences.
