Metamorphosis has one of the best reviews in. Sintra but I was underwhelmed. It took about 45 minutes to get our entrees of cod and grilled giltfish. The giltfish was seasoned well and cooked properly but the cod was a disaster - it was overcooked and under seasoned. We were surprised by the way as well since there were only 4 tables and we ordered fish. We also got the clams which was average as well. This is an amazing restaurant. We have eaten here twice and each time the food has been exceptional. It's obvious the chef is passionate about food. The first visit we had the cod cooked in olive oil, onion, pepper, tomato, and coconut. We also had the Black Pork and Sweet Potatoes. Both dishes were delicious. Tonight we went back and had Cachupa (a stew with shredded pork, pork skin, blood sausage, chickpeas, onion, and more). Duck, bacon, and chorizo rice. We also had the Pork Secrets and they were yummy. And the absolute best dish was the vegetable and mushroom crepe. It was heavenly. Unfortunately, we only ate a fraction of each dish. The portion sizes are very large. The service is exceptional and the prices are very low. Each entree was around 10 €. You definitely want to eat here. Thank you Metamorphosis! On our last night in Sintra, we stumbled upon Metamophosis (with some help from Google Maps). It was pretty full, which is usually a good sign. I'm pretty sure we got one of the last open tables. We got a bottle of vino verde and the following: Clams in garlic sauce - probably one of my favourites discoveries from Portugal Baccalau a bras - very comforting, delicious, although a bit heavy Grilled Sea Beam on vegetables - beautifully fresh, perfectly seasoned! My boyfriend and I stopped by for a quick dinner since Metamorphosis is located right next to the Sintra Train Station. We didn't have reservations, so we're glad to unexpectedly get a table at such place. From the menu, we both decided on a couple of glasses of wine, some appetizers and two entrees. The dish that stood out for me the most was the beef with the peppercorn sauce. It was flavored well and cooked to medium rare just as how I preferred it. The quality of the beef is a little on the tougher side but I assume that it's the reason why their food is so affordable. My boyfriend's fish entree was more fishy than expected. It wasn't entirely bad but we thought that it was more on the milder side. The side order of the tomato soup rice was mediocre. I felt that it was very under seasoned and could have used something more to enhance the dish. Overall, the only positives that I saw was for its affordability and its portion size. Other than that it was just okay. They also only accept CASH, we've seen people having to leave cause they didn't carry enough cash with them. read more

Spent a long but enjoyable day in Sintra visiting the Moorish and Pena Castles and before we hopped on our train back to Lisbon had a fabulous experience here. The service was attentive and friendly. The menu has wide assortment of tapas/appetizers and dinner options. We choose an assortment of small plates to include sheep cheese and Portuguese sausage (cured meat) and both are worth every Euro. And neither exceeded 5 euros so affordable as well. We also had mushrooms and olives and enjoyed every bite. We finished with their cheesecake and wished we hadn't shared. What about the libations you ask- they had a large assortment of wines (reds, white and rose). We had a bottle of house white at 8 euros that was light and dry like we like it. Great location for tourists if you are doing a one-day tour in Sintra. This restaurant is just around the Sintra train station. It takes about five minutes to walk from the station. We arrived around noon and saw this restaurant so decided to give it a try. The pace of life in Portugal is much slower comparing to NYC or any other big cities. We waited for near an hour for the food, but they were really good. Metamorphosis is very generous on the amount of seafood they put in your plate. I've been to too many seafood place where you pay a lot but got only a small piece of salmon or cod, but they give you a lot here. Our waiter is very polite and helpful. This restaurant provided me with not only the best food but the best service I've had in Portugal so far. The menu is simple, classic, and the food is prepared perfectly. We started with sheep's milk cheese and bread with a bottle of vhino verde. The cheese was creamy and delightful, the wine amazing. I've never heard of this type of wine before and it's crisp and light, very enjoyable and pairs well with many dishes, especially in the warm summer months. I'd describe it as a Riesling and a Sauvignon Blanc having a live child. For dinner, my friend had eggplant with vegetables (vegetarian friendly) and she enjoyed it. I had cod with vegetables and potatoes. The cod was light, fresh, and flavorful as the chef prepared it with garlic infused olive oil with even more garlic on the veggies. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The experience of the service was top notch so even though pleasantly full, we had dessert and cappuccinos. We shared two: a cheesecake so light and creamy it seemed like it was whipped by cherubs, on a chocolate crumb crust topped with a berry compote & a chocolate shell filled with a cream so unbelievably light and sweet with cherries. After spending 4 days in Lisbon, this is our first dining experience in Sintra. And it definitely surpassed my expectations compare to some of what we had in Lisbon for traditional Portuguese dish at similar pricing level- we had Monk Fish Stew which need 30 minutes to prepare, Veal Chop which is quite tasty, grilled sea bream is excellent - not too dry and not too salty - my fav so far. On a cold, rainy evening, we were one of two small tables in the place. Based on Yelp recommendations, we started with olives, bread (finally a decent, crusty loaf/bread in Portugal) and the sheep cheese. Why do olives taste better when one is in Europe? These olives weren't anything fancy, but were sure good. And, the sheep cheese was really really good. For dinner, we shared the cataplana for two. Talk about something tasting very 'homey' and authentic. This family style large metal pan had cod, prawns, clams, potatoes, tomatoes, onions and peppers. The vegetables were just as good as the seafood in this dish, and everything tasted so clean, fresh and flavorful. Not quite sue the spices used in this dish, but would highly recommend it. The atmosphere seemed very sterile to me/not much warmth at all, and the waitstaff seemed slightly more interested in the sports match on TV in the other room; however, it wasn't too bad. My husband and I have been Yelping almost our entire trip and have been disappointed with many of the recommended restaurants. This place was hands down the BEST meal we have had. I know what you're thinking... "I've heard that on many reviews before," but this is the real deal. This is my first time visiting Portugal as an adult, but I have access to authentic Portuguese cuisine at home in the U.S. (my parents are Portuguese and we have a large population in our town), so I have a lot to compare it to. We arrived around 7:45pm on a Friday, they asked if we had a reservation, and we didn't but as soon as a patron left we were seated (maybe 5 minutes). We had the soup of the day, which was a puréed vegetable soup topped with a drizzle of oil, herbs and bread. It was one of the best soups I've ever had in my life!!! The manager recommended a perfect white wine to suit our taste, and we went for a bottle. We nearly had two if we had more room in our bellies!! We shared the seafood rice, which was a pot claimed to be for 2 people, but honestly could serve 3 or 4 depending on your appetite. Again, incredible!!! Comforting, flavorful, thick hearty sauce, fresh seafood, perfection!!! We left a little room for dessert, I had a cappuccino and and amazing layered cream, graham cracker & chocolate crumb cup, just the right consistency and portion. My husband had the chocolate moose and enjoyed it very much as well. All of this totaled to about $54 euro. I should also mention the service was great, they were very attentive our entire meal, while giving us plenty of space to enjoy ourselves. Could not be happier with our experience, we just wish we found this place sooner!! With all the tourist traps around, you'll be glad you went this warm and inviting place tucked away from the rest. Added bonus, it was close enough to the train so our full bellies didn't have to go too far, but with enough distance that we didn't feel like it was just another restaurant catering to the masses. read more

The place is lovely, quiet and family friendly. Good value and quality of food and service for the money (a family of 6, with appetizers and a bottle of wine, we left about 120 euros with the tip). The staff is friendly, helpful, many of them speak very good English, are open and happy to help or just talk to you answering your questions about food, culture, language. Kid friendly place, our 9 year old was treated as an equal and her opinion mattered to the staff. Octopus was out of this world, lamb was delicious. Eggplant was absolutely amazing. The pork was a bit on a dry side to our taste. I would come back. We had a lot of fun, enjoyed out evening, meal and interaction with the staff. It was more than just a dinner.
