    Bifana because Bourdain said so
    Nicole D.

Tucked away in a tiny side street is Villa 6. I used a tuk tuk after a day at Pena Palace and it was barely a ten minute commute. There is plenty of al fresco tables and I luckily did not have to wait to be seated. I drank a half liter of amber beer, patatas braves with tangy chipotle sauce and a bifana. The patatas braves were crispy and savory dripping with sauce. The star was the bifana, so rich with the perfect bread to hold in the meat juices. My server was extremely polite and made my visit even more comfortable.

Villa 6 was one of the few spots in Sintra that was open and carried a vegan lunch option. I was starved after visiting some of the sites so I decided to give them a go, since folks mentioned their sandwiches to be decent. I ordered their Seitan Sandwich (€8) along with a glass of wine (€5), and let me tell you: the sandwich was not good. The seitan was overcooked and tough, and the sauce they coated the sandwich in was incredibly salty and near inedible. Sandwiched this between two burger buns and they called this the vegan option... honestly, not impressed at all, even for a tourist trap of a restaurant. Service here was at least friendly but the utter lack of a decent meal option especially for vegans means I can't rate this spot any higher.

We stumbled on this place when we were walking around Sintra. We got the codfish cakes, steak sandwich, cuttlefish fries and the dish of the day (some traditional codfish dish, I forgot the name). Everything was very flavorful and hit the spot. Our server was also super nice and recommended some dishes for us.

Walking down from Moorish Castle, we stopped along the way to grab a bite. Villa 6 was a quaint restaurant on our way to Quenta da Regaleira. We had their special and it was fabulous. The waiter was extremely friendly and had fun with us, and our silly American jokes. Absolutely stop here if in the area.

Health hazard : i saw the cook re-use our leftovers for the next plate - and have pictures of it. We ordered the mix- board witch was well pour quality even considering this is a tourist trap city - non of us liked the sardin on old bread so we did not eat it, while I was waiting to pay our table was cleared - and our board set on the counter to the small kitchen ... after I payed I went to the bathroom line and while standing there saw the female "cook" throw out 1 and reuse 2 of the 3 sardin on bread - mind you we both tasted one. This is not only against the law, it is disgusting!!

Bifana sandwich (half) and octopus salad (also half - we split and shared 2 plates)

This was the closest restaurant to our hotel and one of the few open in the late afternoon when we decided to eat. It's right on the edge of the core tourist area and Red Hot Chili Peppers was on the sound system when we arrived so expectations were rather low, but the food was actually very good. The pulvo (octopus) salad had some baby potatoes, charred garlic and sautéed onions along with tender and well cooked octopus. Balsamic vinegar dressing. The bifana sandwich was fine - the meat seasoned, the bread crusty on the outside but soft inside. Service was quick. We ate at in the alley/pedestrian walk under an umbrella so the atmosphere was quaint and not too busy. Definitely quieter than down at Sintra Center. Wasn't the best meal we had in Portugal but it was perfectly acceptable. Recommend for a quick bite. We saw someone getting the Bacalhao ná Brasa which looked good but we didn't try any of the entrees. There was an issue with the card reader so had to go to an ATM but got a Ginjinha for my trouble.

My partner and I were disappointed by the food here. We ordered the crab shell and mussels salad. The crab shell came with three flatbreads. The crab itself was small, flavourless and didn't taste fresh. The bread should be something easy to prepare but it was extremely dry. We originally ordered the octopus salad but they ran out of octopus so they recommended mussels. Although they were generous with the mussels, the overall dish was overflowed with vinegar. I would not come back.

Fantastic for small plates. Food was great and a great atmosphere too. The mushrooms and chorizo bread were both very good.

Nice little place, tasty tapas, cold beer on tap, wine and atmosphere, all coming from a tiny kitchen and friendly staff. Lovely Sintra with a lot to see, and if you're coming down the steep hill from the Moorish Castle then this is the spot to hit. Did I mention cold beer on tap? Light Sagres or dark Bohemia - both worth their weight in gold.

Great little find. Away from all the tourist traps at the bottom of the hill. Good price, quaint, great ambiance. Feels and is authentic.

I visited Bar do Binho during a trip to Lisbon as part of a tourist stop, initially for a ginjinha…read moretasting, which was fine. After that, a Port wine was presented to us as a special product, different from the regular commercial version, with explanations suggesting exclusivity and added value. Based on this presentation and the tourist context, a bottle was sold for 85 €. After the trip, I discovered that this Port corresponds to a clearly identifiable commercial product that is widely available elsewhere at a much lower price. I contacted the merchant to request clarification or a possible solution. Despite several polite exchanges, no objective or verifiable explanation was provided, and no reasonable solution was offered. The final response was dismissive. This review is not about taste or wine quality, but about pricing transparency and how the product was presented, especially to tourists. Travelers should ask very clear questions before purchasing.

My wife and I were passing the shop while in Cintra for the day, on our trip to Portugal. One look…read moreinside, and we knew we had found our special place for this trip. Walls were lined with bottles of Port wine in recent and ancient vintages. They advertised flights of Port and were set up to deliver at an eclectic variety of tables, high tops & in cozy corners. (Other varieties of Portugal's best, were available of course- Mediera, Ginha etc- but we were focused) Carlos was the very definition of a great sommelier, as he presented a selection of basic Ports for our edification! We learned the history of Port, the differences between varieties, vintages, Tawnys, Rubys, .... never knew of white Port!? It was all very delightful and informative (not to mention delicious) Carlos obviously loves his work & sharing his vast knowledge with like minded folks. Please don't miss this chance to get down and dirty with the family of Ports & take advantage of the fair prices and terrific selection to be found here in Cintra.
