Cozy bistro in great location. Walked in for lunch after visiting Castelo Sao Jorge. Was warmly greeted and seated quickly. Ordered grilled fish of the day: sea bass and sea bream and spinach soup as a starter. Entrees came and both were quite delicious. The price was right; €12 per entree. Will pin this one for future visits

I loved this unassuming restaurant in Alfama. We stumbled across it near our hotel and it was the best meal I ate in Lisbon. I had the octopus which was tender and well-prepared. My dining partner had the pork which he said was well-seasoned. Authentic, no frills experience at a very reasonable price.

By far the best place to eat in Portugal at least from the locations I've eaten at this far. I haven't been very impressed with the local cuisine but today that changed. The restaurant was very busy and we had to wait 20-30 mins for a table. I ordered the garlic shrimp and man were they tasty... like the best shrimp I've had good. The butter garlic sauce with lemon squeezed on top were some serious eats. Then the Torbo Cataplana came and almost made me forget about the garlic shrimp. The waiters are clowns who make the dinner fun. If you like spicy try the hot sauce that they only offer by the drop. Literally only give you a drop to taste it. It was fantastic I'm guessing a ghost pepper hot sauce. It made my dish even better. Great place and the restaurant next door although good was pale in comparison. Reasonable prices too. Try the house wine for 6 euro. We took one UPDATE: went back the next night and got the seafood platter. It was very good! UPDATE DAY THREE: we went back for lunch before leaving for airport. They open at 12 noon. We got the clams in garlic butter sauce and the seafood rice for one. It was the best meal thus far.

The most amazing Portuguese seafood dish! This was a real gem to find. It's a small restaurant in the Alfima district of Lisbon. A for sure go to and must taste!

Best meal we had in Lisbon. We had a short wait late on Monday evening. The waiters were very nice and joking the entire time. The catalpana was great! The waiter also gave a good recommendation on where to see Fado that night. Great food and service!

I went for lunch and absolutely loved the food here. I initially wanted cataplana but unfortunately, they only served in portions of two people. Hence, I ordered the seafood rice instead. And it was divine. The risotto-like dish was flavourful and filled with the most mouthwatering seafood. Service was pretty good. My waiter had a good sense of humour and was generally prompt in bringing everything. Ambience was cozy and very local. I felt that a number of locals were there which is always a good sign of a restaurant! Would love to return for the cataplana.

    Awesome atmosphere.

Stopped in for lunch and enjoyed a great meal and great service. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to our needs. The cream shrimp was similar to a lobster bisque or a she crab soup from Charleston, SC. The grilled grouper was spectacular. The grilled salt cod was delicious and not too salty. We drizzled a little olive oil the fish and veggies. It was all excellent.

Great seafood! We ordered the shrimp starter, vegetable soap, creamy shrimp soap, then seafood rice mix and grilled bass. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We will definitely come back one day.

This is the Steak on a Hot Plate. It is delicious. So. Goddamn. Delicious.

The food here is excellent. We've had some pretty terrible meals in Lisbon so it was definitely a joy to get some great food served by some lovely staff. I had the Steak on a Hot Plate which is definitely one of my Top 5 Steak experiences. One of us had the Breadcrumbed Pork which was pretty good and someone else had the grilled Dorada which they recommend highly. Exactly the kind of eating out experience you hope for when exploring a new city.

The codfish dumpling fusion was a pleasant surprise, creamy on the inside and a nice chewy gyoza wrapper. The octopus rice was good too. A decent amount of octopus with rice in a smoked bell pepper sauce. I was disappointed by the seafood pasta soup though. I liked the mussels, but the shrimp and the clams weren't the freshest. The clams were a little mushy. It had a nice seafood stock flavor, but definitely could have used more salt and seasoning. We had mixed service from one of the female servers.

We each ordered a glass of 20 year port to celebrate my birthday and the staff overheard and brought a complimentary rich chocolate dessert. Very enjoyable meal all the way around.

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. A small line of one or two groups at a time formed throughout the night. We were seated outside and there was a street performer with an acoustic guitar - def added some great vibes to the night. It was a chilly December night but the heater provided *just enough* warmth. We ordered the codfish cakes which were alright - nothing too special. Since it was a little cold out, I also ordered the chicken broth. It was bland, but good in its own way. There was some rice and chicken bits in it that tasted really good. The rotisserie chicken that they are known for was EXTREMELY salty. We were a group of 6 and ordered 2.5 rotisserie chicken (so 5 pieces) but this was actually way too much. It's a little better (but still salty) if you don't eat the skin, but that's the best part given how crispy it was! I tried to drown out the saltiness by using the piri piri sauce and it helped a little bit... but biting into the chicken meant biting into the undissolved salt bits. Given how salty it was, we could not finish it at all and left behind 3 pieces. Service itself was meh. They made sure to inform us that the tip was not included in the bill.

He will talk to you for hours and teach you about food and wine and culture and talk about the history of food and how it came to be in Portugal. I loved it. I learned so much. I aspire, as an American, to learn from and look up to other cultures. I feel very honored to have dined in a restaurant managed by him on our trip to Portugal. I'm going to recommend to our travel coordinator to add this restaurant to the Google map recommendations list because more people need to go to this place - they need more tables, more space, because I'm convinced this is such a hidden gem that should be exposed to the masses to enjoy! We visited several wineries and this restaurant had the best wine - bar none! The fish, a fish I hadn't tried before, was deliciously seasoned, falls apart with the fork, the creamy rice was just divine. I normally will never eat little cherry/grape tomatoes - ever - but the perfect bite of fish, creamy rice, and a tomato was... perfection. The menu is deeply curated; flavors - textures - wines that make sense. You can tell Frederico what you normally like and he 100% knows what wines he has that you will love. The tomato, orange, ham, salad, was absolutely balanced and delicious. I'm so grateful that our first trip to Portugal we got to meet Frederico and dine with these wonderful people who love food and wine as much as us. I'll never forget it as long as I live.
