My sister and I ate at this restaurant in 2016 and had a wonderful time. The food was great as was the service, so we didn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant to our entire family when we decided to travel to Portugal for the New Year. We emailed to secure a reservation in August of 2018 (for December 31st 2018) and got a response that seemed to confirm our request. The email said they would be happy to have us and please wait for a follow up email with the menu. A few weeks later we received the menu email with just a quick explanation that this was the menu for the evening. Nothing else was explained. There was a link to a menu and a link to "booking conditions" but the booking conditions link did not work in English. We had everything set to English for their website, so it automatically went to that page (as we speak English, not Portuguese and they have a link for both) and there was nothing there. It was blank. As there was nothing indicated in the email or in the blank page following "booking conditions" we simply confirmed that we were attending by email. This was months in advance. Fast forward to New Years Eve when we all made our way to the restaurant, asked for our table and were told that we did not have a reservation because we had not paid a deposit. We quickly pulled up the confirmation email and website looking for any indication of this required deposit and found none and explained that to the host who greeted us. His immediate response was dismissive and condescending. He kept repeating that everyone else had paid the deposit and that all the emails had gone out to everyone who had requested a reservation. We pulled up the email and the website and showed that there was nothing in the email or the English side of the website explaining these details and his attitude did not change. He then called their reservation representative and explained the situation and passed off the phone to my sister who, again, explained the situation to much the same response. She insisted that everyone else paid and it didn't make sense that we hadn't gotten that information, but again, the information was not on the English section of their website or the email sent. Not only that, but there was no indication in the email that a deposit was due or that clicking on this tiny link was absolutely necessary to secure a reservation. So following all of this, we were left in a foreign country with seven people on New Year's Eve without a reservation for dinner, and the host could not even bother to apologize or make any effort beyond insisting the same thing over and over again. So as much as we enjoyed our first experience, I can no longer recommend booking here. read more
