What a wonderful little wine bar in the heart of Barrio Alto! I wanted to do a port tasting, so this is definitely a spot. I think they technically have another spot next door so this was the "wine inn" that I went to, but it was still fine! The port tasting is fantastic. We also tried some cheese and got a few other tapas. I thought the space was cozy and very nice and it wasn't crowded. The staff was friendly and offered some great suggestions/recommendations for us as well. would recommend this spot! read more

First of all, this is a really cool location. Until a number of years ago, it really was an old pharmacy. The staff can tell you all about it. Second, the staff is really knowledgeable about port. If you're a newbie, you will get a lot of information here - more than we got on our port tour in Porto. Highly recommend - it's the only place we came twice during a week in Lisbon. read more

Hands down our favorite little wine bar in Portugal. The prices were all so affordable, hence finding ourselves there a few times on our trip. The food was delicious, especially the ham and melon. Big wine selection, pricey/mediocre food and just okay service. We arrived without a reservation and sat in the secondary space which was much brighter and less cozy. We had a few drinks and an appetizer, and overall the experience was fairly meh. The staff was not so great at helping my friend find a wine to her liking. The space is pretty large and good for small groups, but it's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit. read more

Not sure why and how is this place so highly rated. The photo was really underwhelming (see photo evidence!) The bread seemed cold and stale and they gave us boxed sardines and grocery store packaging of cheese and jam. We ended up leaving most of the food uneaten and walked away with our wine bottle. The selection is excellent and the staff was very friendly and helpful. He gave us suggestions and answered our questions on the wine. Huge selection of wines and nice layout in the heart of Bairro Alto. Not on the cheap side and frequented by a lot of tourists. I haven't tried their food, only a selection of cheeses which was a bit meh. The service is great though and it's a nice enough place to start your evening. read more

If you're a tourist walking the streets to find a nice place to try wines but have no clue where to start then start at Old Pharmacy. This place had excellent service, tasty wines and offered delicious cheese, meats and other assortments. I could imagine some would see this place in bad light due to the fact they mainly serve tourists. This is normal, but this would mean that you have found something that focuses on the locals in Lisbon who know their regional wines and food inside out. This is why I recommend this as a good place to start off your Lisbon wine culture. Gives a good base for you and the place has a nice ambience. After our other trials we ended up going back here every night for a few glasses. Why change a winning hand? Place is a bit on the small side. However, if you are a group of 3, just pass by and I am sure you will either find a place or a place will open up. The ambience is relaxed and there is no need to be over-dressed. We were exceptionally served by two gentlemen each time we were there. On the second day, they remembered us and gave extra attention, which shows they do pay attention to who is coming. I am no wine expert but I can point out wine that is drinkable or not and differentiate the taste of different grapes. Each time we were recommended a wine, he would pour a small amount for us to taste. If we did not agree with it, he brought another for us to try. Even if you were drinking the same bottle of wine he would pour a trial These trials were never charged and this habit is not a sign of a place trying to screw you over. If I ever come back to Lisbon, I will definitely pass by here again. The beauty of Lisbon is that there are so many wine bars and this is a wine country. One should go to as many as they can. However, there is no harm in keeping this place as a guaranteed backup. read more

We were in this part of the city to find a wine bar and happened upon this place. They were very busy and at first gave us a table in the smaller room as they said another table was leaving and they would move us. They did exactly that and we have a great table next to the door. We were taken care of well, I had the port flight and my wife the wine. Fair price, excellent service and a wonderful experience, definitely a place worth visiting. read more

My least favorite place in Lisbon. When I arrived I was met by a super aggressive door man who blocked the door, was in my face, grabbing my shirt sleeves and didn't want to let me in. Given Bairro Alto is pretty informal that is odd regardless, but I've never experienced anything similar anywhere in Lisbon or the world. I was dressed in nice pants and a shirt coming directly from the airport from a work trip, meeting friends inside for a quick drink. Unforgivable. I honestly hope they go out of business. read more

We ducked in here on a rainy summer evening, ( our first in Lisboa) and we really lucked out. A terrific wine bar in an interesting setting--an old pharmacy (big surprise there). The waiters, all wearing t-shirts with stethoscopes printed on them, were helpful and knowledgeable--as several others have noted, they offer tastes of everything. The tapas were also very good and perfect for what we were drinking. Go for the flamed sausage prepared tableside--a visual and taste treat. Can't recommend it enough, especially for new arrivals who want a good introduction to Portuguese wine. read more
