Awful. Ordered a cake online and it was never delivered. Weird aggressive staff. Use the Nutley location if you must.

I almost never proclaim any food item the best ever, but the the soft serve here was the best ever! Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and I appreciated the drip handle for the cone. The vanilla chocolate ice cream was smooth and creamy, and just what we needed to get us going on the road trip. I hope they stay open for a long time. read more

I am leaving one star because I have to leave something but that is too generous . I came in person to order and the Ayesha who was alone and sitting down right until I walked in started dealing with an online order. There were no other customers in the store and she wasn't "slammed" because she was sitting till I arrived. She didn't address me and tell me should be right with me or anything for that matter. After waiting patiently for about 5 mins or so she started working on another order after the first one and still hadn't addressed me. So I asked how long it will take before I could place an order and then she said she was working on another order again no one was in the store just myself. Then she got nasty with me when I asked why she would not help an in store customer vs her online order. She told me I could leave if I didn't like the the service and go to another carvel. I not sure if this is how carvel trains there staff but I asked to speak to her manager. She claimed no one else was there. Then proceeded to try kick me out because she didn't want to deal with an actual customer. I've been to this carvel several times and it's understandable when it's busy that the service is slow but she was not busy...till I walked in. This is beyond poor customer service and I wouldn't ever bring my business there or any Carvel. The level of service is sub- par...ie very poor. No courtesy to even address clients when they walk in. Especially when they are not busy. And there are cameras in the store to prove the situation I just described on this quiet Sunday night. Employees need to be trained on customer service instead of ignoring customers. Ayesha was disrespectful and got downright nasty. Not what I would expect from a brand that's been around and has lots of competition. read more

Stopped to get a scoop of ice cream definitely impressed by the ice cream selection. I got a Cold Brew Coffee, it had Oreo cookies in it to I think, great additive! What I thought was really neat was the cone holder, it held the cone perfectly & the extended lips/flaps around the sides help with spilling/melting!! I haven't seen anything like that before! So my main complaint before was lousy service and the fact they always advertised a seasonal soft serve flavor and NEVER had the machine working. Also, when they had a company wide free cone day, they had a sign on door saying no free ice cream. You can't opt out of a company promotion! Also also once they just weren't open during posted hours. Anyway, new owner reached out to me asking me to come back. Mint flavor in stock yay! He was very nice and apologetic, even though it wasn't his fault for old owner management. So I came back and was happy to try again. I always enjoyed their ice cream. It's very soft but still great flavor, and mint and fudge sauce is a winning combination. As days get warmer, I will definitely be back and I recommend others come by and try it too. read more

I'm a sucker for Carvel. Went here only because I had been craving ice cream cake and then got a coupon from them in the mail. It's almost as if they knew. Creepy. Anyway, the coupon was for $3 off a sheet of cake, but I tested my luck and approached the counter with a medium round cake for $17.99. The dude let me use the coupon anyway and so I walked out only paying $14.99 (in case you needed me to do the math for you). Overall, that cake is good for about 6 slices (about $2.50/slice if you factor in the discount), and it was way better than a single slice of ice cream cake I paid $9 for at a restaurant the other night. They'll also decorate the cake on site with whatever expression(s) you want at no additional cost. As an aside, I would heed Wesley C.'s advice about the sherbet. Steer clear. I can see why it tasted like chemicals ... it looked like a 5th grade science experiment gone awry. read more

This is the BEST Carvel in Northern NJ. We're celebrating my daughter's 16th birthday. Being that we're in a pandemic we're scrambling, trying to make this a birthday my daughter will always remember. So on short notice I needed a custom ice cream cake made with my daughters favorite colors. Went there on a Friday evening placed the order and picked my cake up early Saturday afternoon. I would like to thank the staff there for being friendly, understanding and the GREAT service they were able to provide me on such short notice. The new management is great! Had a bad experience with the previous management, but the new management is totally different. The place was whole mess before, but now i love it. The quality totally changed, the customer service is great now. They were so nice to me and treated the kids with some free ice cream. If you want to waste your money and be sick all night- this is the place to go. This was my 2nd bad experience here- but my real concern was with my visit this past Saturday. We purchased a cup each of pistachio-strawberry cheesecake and soft vanilla and took it to go. Thank god we started eating in the car right away before we left the general area. The first taste of the pistachio tasted fake- I thought it was just because it was not home made but the next spoonful tasted like lime. At first I thought that maybe they scooped the lime ice cream by accident- but seconds later the taste of SOUR MILK over came me. I was practically dry heaving in the car. My daughter tried it- same thing. My other daughter was in the middle of eating her strawberry shortcake Ice cream and complaining it was grainy. I thought she was exaggerating but I tried it anyway and she was right/ grainy! Almost as if it was a powdered mixture that didn't completely dissolve before freezing. I went back to the location- - 2 out of the 3 ice creams were bad and I didn't want to try the third. I'm also pregnant so I really didn't want to be up with stomach issues all night. Customer service is obviously not this locations priority. The woman told me that there would be no refunds. The ice cream was fine and a lot of people buy their ice cream and no one complains. I told her that's fine- but someone is going to get sick bc the pistachio ice cream is bad- not only does it taste bad but it's going to make someone sick. After threatening to call the police, report them to the department of health and anywhere else _ I finally got my money back. She continued to yell at me as I walked out of the store to 'get out' because she 'already gave me back my money '. I will never go to this location again. No wonder it is always empty- stay away!!! read more
