The staff were very warm and welcoming - it's clear they have their regulars and with the customer service and food variety/quality I'm not surprised at all! The chicken in the panini was surprisingly tender and the pasta salad on the side paired perfectly. The breakfast burrito also perfectly balanced and very filling as well. My friend found this place online when we were just looking for a lunch spot to meet at in Brea. It is very cute, and you can tell a lot of thought is put into the look and into the menu and food and drinks available. The young woman who took my order at the counter was very friendly and sweet. I got the half salad/half sandwich combo, with Asian chicken salad and a chicken pesto panini. It was very tasty, and I ate it all up, so I don't have a photo unfortunately. I was also pleasantly surprised that the worker even came by to refill our water - not typical in a counter service restaurant, but it made me feel like they were attentive and valued us as customers. They also serve breakfast all day, and there were a lot of other things I would have liked to try. Will consider going back if I'm nearby. All right, so, I hate to not give a 5-star to a locally owned place. The three employees here were so friendly and kind, and the extensive menu written on chalkboards n the restaurant has all that cool, hip, modern "just a corner shop" vibe. Ambiance, look, and offerings are an easy 5 out of 5 stars here. We order some canned sodas too. And the food came out on these very "homey" feeling plates, which was an added feel to the place. But... and it's a big but... the food was only OK. I got the pastrami sandwich, which was certainly the better of the two, but my wife got the chicken pesto, and it wasn't great. The chicken was definitely dry, but the pesto was good. Despite this being a really cool spot, I just don't think we'll come back. read more

I just ordered a breakfast burrito through DoorDash and it has to be one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in a LONG time. I usually expect the food quality not to be as good when I get it delivered but it tasted like I just got it handed to me over the counter. So, my wife and I usually try to eat in the city we live in to help local businesses. I asked my wife to Yelp for a new place and she came up with Carmel Cafe. I said let's do this and we ventured in to get coffee and a little bite. The menu is specific and kept to certain item which we like. It was like an In-N-Out menu. Brunch, quesadillas, sandwiches, paninis, pastries and soup combos. The coffee selection and food selection were great. So this is what we had and thought of the food. I started with the Honey Vanilla Latte which was on point and flavorful. The breakfast burrito was surprisingly delicious. The eggs were fluffy, yummy potatoes and peppers, perfect crispness on tortilla. All in all it was very good. My wife got her favorite Chai Latte and she said it was smooth, creamy, and one of the best she's had! She also ordered the Pesto Avocado Toast on wheat and couldn't stop raving about how flavorful it was with the smashed Avocado and all the add ins. She kept saying that it was amazing also. Two words. Hidden gem. I have to stop here every time I'm in the area. The place is always so clean, the layout and decor is aesthetically pleasing but aside from the food, the staff is amazing. They are always so kind and seem genuinely happy to serve you. My second visit to the place as before I called ahead to make an order for pick up. I went with the turkey and cheddar and, yay, today they had a croissant (last one). I went down there to get my sandwich along with a side of potato salad. I got back to the office and sat down for lunch. WOW, the croissant was huge with a lot of turkey and cheese. The croissant was very fresh and flaky, I had to keep brushing off my clothes.....lol. I really like their potato salad too, it is a little sweet. YUM.
