A gorgeous restaurant in a former mansion with a history. Free parking as well as valet parking for $5. Truly a top notch spot in Cincinnati. A perfect spot for a special occasion. We were here for my birthday and then here again for our anniversary. They are super attentive and if you need anything just ask! Christian our bartender/waiter was outstanding. This time we tried the Wagyu Carpaccio for an appetizer and it was a great way to start. The beef was fresh and tender and cut super thin along with the fresh arugula and saltiness of the parm crisps and capers it was a perfect bite. My main was the Lobster Thermidor, it was the first time I have tried that dish and it did not disappoint! The star of the day though was the 16 oz ribeye my husband ordered to a perfect medium rare and he said he could have cut it with a fork. He also had the creamy mashed potatoes and sautéed mushrooms on the side. The brought us out a lovely cupcake with a candle for our anniversary. We did not leave hungry for sure. I've heard many of good things about Carlo & Johnny. We were excited to try their food finally. We started with the small bluefin tuna flight experience. The quality of the fish blew me away! You cannot find fresh fish like this anywhere else in Cincy. The tuna melted in your mouth and the presentation was beautiful. We also got the mozzarella di bufala which was pretty good, I do wish they gave you more than 2 pieces of grilled bread with it. For our main course we got the bistecca ala florentina. This was a bit dissappointing for us since the steak felt chared and a little burnt on the outside. We couldn't really taste the flavor other than it being burnt. It was not cooked evenlty as one side was more well done than the other. I think for this price it would have been done a little better. The mac and cheese and truffle gnocchi was good as always. The one thing we did not like was how slow our dinner came out. We were there for 3 hours long when we only got 3 dishes and 1 side. We probably waited 30mins after we finished eating something for the next item to come out each time. The servers were great but I feel like we shouldn't have waited so long inbetween our dishes. read more

The exposed brick, rich wood accents, and dim lighting create the perfect atmosphere for a romantic evening. Came for one of my Bestfriends birthday and had a good time. Our man server Chandler was pretty great but the lady who sat down the bread and butter seemed to be in a rush or not interested in helping our table. I did however asked chandler if there was another flavor of the espresso martini I could order but he never got back to me with an answer. I ordered the prime skirt steak and truffle fries. The chimichurri that came with the skirt steak was some of the best I ever had and same goes for the truffle fries. I had the opportunity to try the Brussel sports, chicken Parmesan, Who Dey roll , Shrimp Tempura and Filet Scampi. To me the scampi was kind of salty. Some of the people I came with did have to send their food back to be cooked longer but the manger was really nice about the whole thing. If you don't like salt I would say don't get the bread! I made a mistake and bite into the crust and it was not pleasant. It is ever nice inside the restaurant and I'm glad I got to learn about the history of the building as well. read more

Been here many times and got a steak and the wife got the chicken so there are plenty of those pictures. Started off with oysters, east coast and west coast. I always do this as this is the only time I get to eat them since I am the only one that will eat them. Got our meal and as always it prepared well and delicious as well as the sides. It was our anniversary and we ordered a dessert but our daughter called them to have a dessert flight created for us. It was delicious and I have to say the staff is always top notch. The food at any Jeff Ruby restaurants do not disappoint. Overall a great fine dining experience at Carlo and Johnny's. The waitress was super nice and friendly and attentive. The sushi, wedge salad and filet were all on point. I was a bit disappointed at the beer temp. Both of my Mich Ultra's were slightly cooler than room temp. Had to put ice from my other glass into my beer to help it out. Also, not complaining but just advising that dining here takes longer than normally expected. We go a few times a year for special occasions. We have yearly NYE reservations. Usually the service and food is impeccable. However, this year for NYE was less than impressive. The service was slow and honestly, not even decent. Waited almost 45 minutes for our dinner. The server was literally ghosting us. We saw her to place our order, give us our bill and ordered a dessert to take home with us. It took her over 30 minutes to bring our dessert and that's only AFTER we asked where it was! She "forgot" to bring it out! Super disappointed with our service. For a $400 meal for two, I absolutely expected better service. I can't say we won't be back, but I will say this was by far the worst experience I've had here. And we were seated next to the fireplace which was unbelievably hot making our already poor service even a worse experience. All in all, I have to say, I could have gone to outback and had a better experience and saved $300. Pretty disappointed. read more

Birthday for a good friend (we came from Dayton) wanted something spectacular and Carlo did not disappoint. Sarah our server gave us a detailed history of the building while we enjoyed cocktails. The decor is so perfect and service was top notch at every stage .Steak (Delmonico loved every amazing bite) and others with sea bass and steak scampi said the same. This was our second visit to this restaurant. We were greeted immediately after entering. We had a reservation and was early, but still had to wait. We were a table of five. I love the antique feel of the property and its historical flair. We were greeted by several staff members while at our table. Our server, a Michael Douglas look alike was helpful and engaging. Our food was delicious overall. The bread was just okay, but I don't like rye. We chose a meatball appetizer that was pared with grits. It was flavorful. We chose a delmonico steak entree and a Duhon pork chop. Our sides were garlic mash and mac and cheese. Our food portions were substantial and we were able to finish our food for lunch the next day. Beautiful place full of stories and character. Classy, yet relaxed atmosphere. I had the petite filet mignon, and it was cooked to order just perfectly. Unfortunately, I did have a couple of bites that were not chewable. We had a side of baby carrots and these babies were quite large and plentiful, but fresh & tasty. Finished with the butter pie and it was outstanding. Overall, wonderful atmosphere and great food. We didn't feel rushed and were able to enjoy our cocktails and meal with ample time. The filet mignon was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection. The sushi was fresh and delicious. Last Evening was not a pleasurable one. We were celebrating 2 Birthdays last and the night unfortunately spiraled and tanked. Definitely NOT the experience we are used to at the Rubys establishments. The night started off wonderfully, our waiter Chris very enthusiastic and comical kicked off the night very well. It was my Mothers 1st time to the Carlo & Johnny Location & Chris was kind enough to tell her the history. We started with shrimp appetizer and some drinks then things kind of went south after that. The restaurant was not really busy except the left back horseshoe of the restaurant. We were able to mains order placed, but ended up waiting a good while for it to come out. Im assuming while I was in the restroom the waiters attendant took the remaining bread off the table along with the butter. When I returned I asked the young man if we can have some more bread and butter since it was removed from the table. The young man replied " I personally am unable to get that for you, you will have to ask your waiter"( which is running around like crazy trying to keep his head above water). So you "personally can remove bread & butter from the table but can not replace it. Okaaaay got it ! Our meal arrives. I ordered the surf & turf. I automatically knew the lobster came with drawn butter. So again I asked the attendant to get the butter for the lobster. Good news he was able to get that ! When our food was delivered to the table by a female expo she asked if we would like some side plates for the family style sides; we said yes.... She never showed with them. When Chris stopped by the table to see if everything was to our liking he did mention the plates but we told him expo was getting them. We could see he was extremely busy and to not worry about them, we ended up just passing the sides around the table no big deal. End of meal the waiters attendant grabbed our food up to be boxed.... Never brought our food back to the table. We then waited about 25 min for birthday desserts to arrive, which consisted of a cookie and a triangle of butter cake, nothing that needed to be prepared. No candle like the other tables received with their birthday celebrations that I noticed, kind of frustrating seeing we were celebrating 2 Birthdays. After that had to get up twice from the table to ask for our boxed food we had not received yet and also the bill. Ended up getting our bill from another waiter which seemed frustrated that he had to lift a finger for his fellow staff. Being in the service industry myself left a bad taste in my mouth. You guys can visibly see he is seriously in the weeds and nobody offered to help. They just let him tank!!! I know RUBY himself would not tolerate this! Chris comes to the table to express his apologies and take care of our bill personally at this point he is in a full blown sweat :( We paid our bill. Here the waiter attendant comes with some more water NOT with our food he took 30+ minutes ago but more water!! We said where is our food you were supposed to box up 30 minutes ago??? Go's in the back get our food, 1 small bag for 3 people! Of course the side of béarnaise I ordered was not in there when we checked to see if it was even our food!!! At those point I didn't care I just wanted to leave!!! Do to other staff members not willing to pitch in and help out we were probably there an hour to an hour and 1/2 longer than we should have been. My husband and I celebrated our 48th Wedding Anniversary at Carlo & Johnny October 15th. The Entrees were absolutely delicious we enjoyed Filet Mignon, Mashed Potatoes, Mushrooms and Salad. As soon as we arrived the waiter served complementary Champaign to celebrate our Anniversary and our names were printed at the top of the menu we were given! The atmosphere is romantic, elegant and beautifully decorated. Our waiter Greg filled us in on the History of the restaurant and the possibility of a Ghost haunting. Not being big red meat eaters [my husband eats zero red meat, daughter is pescatarian, and I indulge in a good filet on special occasions] we are not big steakhouse aficionados. Following my precious Mom-in-Law's funeral last week, my husband wanted to treat the 3 of us to a relaxing, exceptional dining experience. He selected C&J and daughter clinched the reservation. Our dining experience was exceptional, to say the least! The closest I have come to dining at a restaurant like C&J is The Capital Grille in DC [dined there numerous times] and a Morton's in northern VA. Although both of these restaurants provide solid, exceptional experiences, C&J completely eclipsed both of them in every way possible! The abundant staff were all friendly, courteous, and beyond knowledgeable! They all really displayed a heart for service, which is exceptionally rare these days. I asked one of our servers about their training, being a long-time server/cocktail waitress "back in the day" myself, and I mentioned that they must have a 15 minute "stand up" meeting prior to service each shift. She said, "No, our training is much more extensive than that," which was clearly evident in their execution. Well done C&J! I absolutely love artichokes, and their treatment of the artichoke appetizer I ordered was exceptional [that adjective seems to be a theme here!], creative, and unique. It was very filling. It inspired me to go on an artichoke preparation adventure and try to replicate their recipe along with a long-time Italian version I've been wanting to cook. The gnocchi were delicious! The crab cake was exceptional, and all dishes were prepared to our special requests, plates removed at the appropriate time, and waters never empty - all inconspicuously and unobtrusively. Their wine list was the size of a small town's phone book, and daughter and I split a sauvignon blanc which was an excellent accompaniment to our dinner selections. The service and food are absolutely standout and the location is beautiful! It was tastefully decorated for Christmas and had a cozy feel with the fireplaces lit upstairs. Although we had a few issues with our visit (long wait time despite a reservation, being out of cowboy steak and nori, and wrong side dish came out), our server, Jeff, and the manager did everything in their power to take care of us and make up for it. We usually have great food and service at Carlos and Johnny but the Braised Beef Short Rib Marsala fell real short of the high expectations from this establishment and the wait time for items from the bar were pretty long. I expect short ribs to be very tender and rich and my dish was the farthest from being tender and rich. The meat was very tough and not real flavorful. I am not sure what was going on with the bar but getting drinks was a wait. We actually asked if our waitress heard our drink order. If we decide to dine here again, I will stick with what I know is good. Very disappointed with this choice from the menu. read more

We came here for our 10th Valentine's Day together this year. The service we had at the bar was phenomenal. I definitely recommend they were great. The drinks was great. The meals were out of this world. The dessert was incredible. Obviously an upscale steakhouse with a wonderful ambience. We even picked up a signature cigar for my husband. The quality of the cigar was out of this world. The ice cream cigar mousse dessert we had was also one of the best presentations I've ever seen in my life. Jeff Rubys completely out of their selves with this one. To top it off, we had reservations at 10 PM and normally when you have reservations late at a restaurant, you're not expecting to have quite quality service by that point in the evening, but man they were just on point. Carlo & Johnny, from our initial request for a reservation through to our leaving the restaurant after eating, treated our group of 13 old men like special celebrities. The Jeff Ruby room was a perfect size, the food was excellent and plentiful, and the personnel helping us celebrate our event were helpful, patient, and always available. It would be difficult to mention each employee separately since there were many who assisted in our having a great time. We were celebrating our 100th Monthly Eating since starting our group in 2016, and if we're still around in 9 years, we decided to celebrate our 200th Monthly Eating also at C & J. read more

This is a premium price restaurant which needs to step up. First, we were seating outside on a nice patio which was great. The downside is that it's mid October and there were no heat lamps. Nor did we know, so one of us went home to bring Jackets. Then we ordered drinks. Took forever as I don't think the bar could handle the volume. Come on, this is Saturday night and a steak house! Happened again on reorder. Food was delicious and served in a reasonable time. Extensive sushi menu. Yet, when I ordered hot Saki, they couldn't serve it hot nor in a proper containers. After reserving a table in the elevated area in the bar, we were seated at a table on the dance floor! The table was 1 foot away from the band. We could not talk to each other, the waiter couldn't walk around the table to take our order, we had to yell it to him. People on the dance floor were right behind our table, less than two feet. Our waiter attempted to take our dinner order before we got our first drink, while the drinks sat on the bar. Our steaks were okay, nothing to brag about, our baked potato was half cooked, didn't melt butter. The dinner experience was not worth $500! Our night was ruined. read more
