This is my new favorite obsession. I have turned into a little old lady well ahead of my time and recently came across a delightful little place called Stitches in Glendale. I developed a bad habit of going to the this fabric store for hours, then heading to Meritage for a meal and drinks. Truly, the cherry on top. Meritage was addictive. It was hard to break away from a place where the bartenders quickly learn your name (because they know everyone else's) and the food is stellar. Trust me when I say get the French Onion soup. If they've got the same chef (young black female with her brother turning out dishes in the back), you're in for a treat. They have daily specials and over-the-top desserts, so treat yourself. I finally got around to visiting Meritage's "new" location. I think they've been there 12 years, and I ate there often before they moved, but just hadn't gotten around to it since then. I'll tell you , it was like coming home. The old location had great food, but wasn't much to look at. The new location is charming, and still has great food, so it was a step up for them. My friend started with calamari. The breading was light and wonderfully crispy, and the rings were cooked just right, so that they were tender. They were accompanied with an excellent remoulade sauce. They were garnished with a sprinkling of deep-fried chives, which were wonderful. I had a half mixed green salad with their balsamic citrus vinaigrette. I'm really glad they offer half salads, because this thing was plenty big. I tasted the dressing before adding it to the salad, and didn't taste much except raw garlic. On the salad, however, it was perfectly balanced. He ordered the bone-in ribeye, which was one of the specials, with a loaded baked potato. That steak was huge, and cooked to the medium that he requested. Strangely, they don't have salt and pepper on the table, and, unfortunately, Sam had just checked on us, so we had to wait a little to get those. Sam, by the way, gave us excellent and friendly service. I ordered the crab cakes with a twice-baked potato. The crab cakes were a little spicier than I expected, but in a pleasant way. They were drizzled with remoulade sauce. They had a good flavor of crab, complemented by other ingredients. I wish I had ordered the loaded baked potato, but for one minor reason. This twice-baked potato was wonderful and overstuffed, but there wasn't enough potato skin as a result of that generosity. The dessert menu should contain a warning that some of their desserts can feed four. He got the gigantic piece of carrot cake, easily twice the size of a usual slice. I got the creme brullee, one of my favorites. I was especially pleased because the chef and I have the same idea of how much sugar topping should be on it. There was a very thin layer, and excellently brulleed to a delicate crunch. Meritage is not an inexpensive restaurant, but some restaurants are pompously expensive. Sophisticated restaurant, with a wide variety of food options. You can get everything from dinner to lunch. I enjoyed the music. And the flowers in the picture were real, how pretty. It was my first time trying scallops, & if you know anything about seafood you know that takes a lot of skill to be able to make as a chef and it was absolutely terrific. As was the calamari. I got the pasta, and that was okay in my opinion, next time, I would definitely request it to be spicier, at least personal preference. The pasta has a very sweet tomato taste. But the beatable were very tasty, the server let us know everything was made to order, so I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem to request next time. The gumbo on the other hand was apparently, very spicy. I witnessed it first hand, with my friend sweating. Haha, make sure you can handle the fire! Nice work event, we had a semi private room on the second floor. Felt sorry for our hostess managing our large group single-handedly, but decent service despite the challenges and great apps (calamari was the bomb). I had the fish special (monkfish), as well as the burnt orange old fashioned. Not too salty, and left feeling full. Heritage opens at 11 for lunch. The place was mostly empty when we arrived today (Tuesday) for our 11:30 reservation. As we were sitting there, and we were only there about 40 minutes, the place filled up. Reservations are a good idea. The place had a nice, classy vibe. The servers were both congenial and competent. This was my first time, but my lunch companion was somewhat of a regular. To that end, seems most folks working recognized her. I was waiting for paparazzi! LOL She started with French Onion Soup, which she loved. She then had the Ham and Havarti sandwich with potato salad. She'd never had the potato salad before, but it came highly recommended. She was not pleased. It had a strong pickle flavor. I enjoyed it. She doesn't eat that much so she let me take half a sandwich and the potato salad home to Mark. He very much enjoyed all of it. I ordered one of the specials - Mahi Mahi served with crab butter and a topping of crab and a sprinkling of red peppers. It came with the vegetable of the day, which was sautéed mushrooms. Everything was delicious. The mushrooms had a lovely, genuine mushroom flavor. There was no sherry, nothing vinegary, just wonderful mushrooms. The Mahi Mahi was very good, but the way the plate was served, with the bowl of mushrooms sitting on a paper napkin on the plate soaking up some of my delightful crab butter, seemed like a miss. Since day one I've had nothing but incredible service. Always greeted with a smile by the hostess, the seating area always clean and pleasant to look at, and at least once a week they will have someone come in and play live music on their guitar! I am a big big fan of their potato soup, their fries and the lamb chops, they also have REALLY good ranch (made in house)!!!!! The bar staff is friendly and can made a mean lemon drop martini, the waitstaff is humorous and charismatic, one of my favorites -Kirian never cease to improve and brighten my day!! I have been coming here for years now, whenever I get a chance when I'm visiting the area! the staff at Meritage really try (and succeed) to made dining with them very joyous and memorable experience! Birthday lunch. This was my first time visiting this restaurant in the heart of Glendale. It is a lovely old building with beautiful furnishings. We were seated in a dining room on the first floor. My sister had the Chicken Tortilla soup and she really enjoyed it. The house salad was fresh and full of flavor. We all three ordered the Chicken Diavolo Pasta. Two of us substituted shrimp for the chicken. The pasta was slightly spicy and filling. Even though we were very satisfied with our food, we were enticed by the variety of desserts. Crème Brûlée was superb. The carrot cake and chocolate cake were large portions that were outstanding. Service was professional and on spot. We left happy with lots of leftovers to savor again. Fantastic experience and food. My girlfriend and I went in for a happy hour appetizer and beer. We let the server know this and he was soo kind and engaging (I think his name is Ryland). We sat at his table for several hours, as we were catching up on each others lives. I reminded us, several times, to hang out as long as we wanted and just stop him if we need anything. The bruschetta was delightful and all ingredients tasted very fresh. My girlfriend got the French onion soup and said it was amazing. She ended up getting the basil pasta to-go and later messaged me that "that basil pasta was legitttt." Had a delicious dinner the night before Valentine's Day. Out party landed on the salmon and prime rib. Both were amazing - the salmon was perfectly cooked, flavorful and just the right amount! There was not a bit of the prime rib left of the two servings at the table. Each was tender and juicy with a great horseradish sauce. Service was also excellent, and it's such a cool place. There was live music upstairs but we did not venture up there. But we will try that for next visit. Great place for date night or a special night out. This is our go-to spot for fine dining here in Cincinnati. It is quite pricey but usually very worth it. One time the waitress asked if we wanted salads with our steaks and of course we said yes. Moved to Ohio from Chicago and was thrilled when we finally found a restaurant where the food and service is very good! We have been here 3 times and the food has been great. Service the first 2 times was fantastic (Mia? I believe) but the last time, our server was barely adequate. She was just "filling in" because her BF works here..("she's really an engineer"). We were not sure how (if) we offended her but it was clear she was not happy to be working. When we asked why the water tasted ..... she filled in the blank for us: Horrible (not an exaggeration) her comment was that it has always been that way. We were not up for drinking alcohol that evening; are not fans of soda and therefore there was Nothing to drink with our meal. How in the world do you run a great restaurant when the water is so bad? Bad enough that we didn't feel comfortable ordering iced tea. Next time we are tempted to go to Meritage, we will either bring our own bottled water or call ahead to see if management has invested in perhaps reverse osmosis? Again, food and most of the service is great (To include the hostess) but if you'd like something other than alcohol with your meal, you may be out of luck. read more

This was my third dinning experience at Meritage, and unfortunately it wasn't great. We sat in the bar area, which I don't particularly care for, but I went with it. I had to wedge paper napkins under the leg of the table to make it stable. Bartender was our server and had a dry personality. Well until the check came. That's when they all perk up. If you know what I mean. It was prime rib night and I was really looking forward to it. We started out with the hummus appetizer. I think that's what it was. Horrible texture and mediocre flavor. The Mixed greens salad was the only thing I really cared for. Ordered the prime rib, MR. Looked beautiful but that's the only good thing I can say about it. Tons of fat, to be expected at times. But unfortunately the meat was very tough. I felt like I'd been in a heavy weight bout after trying to cut the stringy fat away from the tough meat. And the uneven base on the plate didn't help. Ended up taking it home and feeding to the hounds. I've had better at Meritsge, unfortunately this visit was a big fail. read more

Food was okay, but our server was awful. I ordered a French dip sandwich, which was okay, but my fries were not hot. Our server never checked on us, so I wasn't able to ask for hot fries. When she came to clear the table, I told her, and she said she checked with us twice and asked why I didn't tell her before. I told her that she never checked back with us. She came back and offered me a free dessert which I turned down. She took a drink off our tab instead. We've had positive experiences there before, but her lie means we won't go back. read more

Our visit is a perfect example of how one little thing can change a whole perspective on the dinner. We were traveling for business in Cincy and using Yelp found this place that had great reviews. Our experience was 80% great and 20% but the 20% really weighted on our score for the experience. First, location of the restaurant is fantastic, the little historic square is a perfect setting for a nice, quiet dinner. The restaurant itself is very nice and neat, has a nice patio (where we sat), bar area and second floor. For dinner, we had a soup of the day (I am blanking on the name but it was ok), my wife had Meritage salad, which was good and I had daily special, which was Prime Rib Special with Caprese salad on the side. Prime Rib is where things went really wrong, it was very bland, a lot of fat (too much), no flavor and very underwhelming. Evening did end up on a high note. We ordered their version of chocolate cake. It is nothing really special but very moist. My recommendation to the restaurant is to warm it up a bit or pour warm chocolate ganache over it to take it up a level. When our server (Sarah) found out we were there also celebrating our birthday, they made it complementary. This was truly a 5-star experience but a huge mishap with their daily special (my prime rib) had a huge impact on our overall experience. read more

If possible, Meritage would be rated between a 3.5 and 3.75. Feel like is they just tweak a few things, they would be better. Meritage is a somewhat strange dichotomy of two crowds, out of town business people that find themselves here somehow, and elderly locals. What they have going for it is being open on Mondays, when many nicer dining establishments are not, like Cozy's, or as the businessman behind us said to the waitress, "I'm here because Montgomery Inn is closed today." I prefer the food & decor at Cozy's to Meritage. Let's talk food first, maybe it'll save you money! Libations: pass. Did not like my $12 glass of French Riesling, and their tap was "broken", so my husband ordered a pricey glass of bottled beer. Was expecting to see suggested drink pairing with entrees, surprised it was listed. Appetizers: good. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, and at first, the idea of Caesar dressing sounded semi-unappetizing on the menu, but it tasted as if it were made in house, and was tastefully incorporated in the dish. Cooked well, light crispy outside layers gently flaked off. Entrees: good mains, sides meh. The server excitedly talked about a certain type of fish that was the special. I ordered it, and they didn't have it, so I had the monkfish with crab on top. Prepared well, good flavor. Sides were "roasted" carrots and sautéed spinach, carrots needed way more roasting, and the spinach was in desperate need of garlic. My husband and the filet, tiny bit very tasty. Dessert: very good, for the most part. The chocolate crème brûlée was like an elevated s'more, as they used brown sugar on top instead of turbinado (what is traditionally atop this dessert. After chatting with the server, it was unclear if this was intentional or accidental. The cheesecake is a VERY healthy sized slice (double what you get of most places) but the crust had a bitterness. Meritage needs to change their decor, it's kinda awful. Some walls painted grey, some yellow, with ugly art and clunky leather seating. If they were truly formerly an inn, they should lean into that, make this a more comfortable, relaxing, and inviting environment. Perhaps the best aspects of Meritage is it's unpretentious. The server was herself, not trying too hard or overly eager. It's also a place you can enjoy conversation, as it's quieter than most restaurants, which was the biggest draw for us. My Mr and I were craving a good steak dinner. My Mr stumbled on the Meritage on Door Dash. Before we ordered we checked on the reviews on Yelp and were impressed so decided to go for it. I got the Filet Mignon cooked medium and it comes with a twice baked potato. My Mr got the Ny Strip cooked medium with a loaded baked potato. We got our order in less than hour and were truly impressed with our meals. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the way we want. We didn't need steak sauce because it was seasoned and tasted delish the way it was. The potatoes were amazing and super huge! My twice baked potato had a hint of cheese and super buttery! So good! My Mr really enjoyed his meal as well. When everything is clear to open and we feel safe to dine out, I definitely would come here and try the other items on the menu. read more

Meritage Restaurant I was attending a meeting just North of Cincinnati and my host took me to Meritage for dinner. The Village Square of Glendale is very quaint. Parking is readily available. We were quickly seated and our drink orders fulfilled. The service was excellent. I love the prices for wine and food in the mid-West, they are 1/2 the prices we have in California. For a starter, I highly recommend the grilled brussels sprouts. They were excellent. For a main course, I had the house special fish (flounder) and my colleague had their steak dinner. My wife has been here several times for work lunches. My son has been here once for a work lunch. They both complimented the food. This is my first time here for Meritage. Have been to the building for predecessor tenants. We went today for Easter brunch. I made the reservations 6 weeks ago and was told 25 dolllars a person. We showed up and found it to be 32 dollars a person. This was expensive given that pop/ice tea was not included and cost 3.35. The 9 dollar mimosa was no bargain given previous years had unlimited mimosas for 10 to 14 dollars at other brunches. You wouldn't know it was Easter brunch because they had no decor or Easter eggs, bunnies etc. Desserts are ala carte and extra. They did put beignets on the table. They had 1 buffet line upstairs and 1 downstairs. This was the worst organization I have ever seen. They mixed breakfast and lunch items. Each buffet silver platter consisted of 2 halves. They randomly put items out! Started with dirty or wet plates. First item was mac n cheese which was ok followed by Salmon. Then you had quiche, mixed veggies, ham, burnt roadkill prime rib or roast beef, gravy and biscuits, bacon, eggs, ham, soggy mushed french toast in a million pieces with snipeys of fruit, hash browns, soggy waffle pieces. This was followed by slices of honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon on 1 plate next to whipped cream, sour cream and chocolate chips. At the end was a Caesar salad and mixed salad with a bowl of ranch and caesar dressing. No carving stations as promised. Oh i forgot the plain rolls. Dont understand why the salads were at the end without salad plates. Everyone including my wife and I had to go back to the beginning for another giant plate. Service was good for drink refills. Food refills were slow. How could you leave mushy french toast out there! Definitely won't go back. read more

My husband and I went for the first time on a random Wednesday night. We sat at the bar upstairs as the host said there was live music up there. We were the only ones at the bar, however there was a very large party behind us and off in a separate room. It took the bartender a very long time to acknowledge us. My husband was actually standing to leave when he came over. My husband ordered an old fashioned and I ordered a margarita. The bartender was very friendly and apologized for the wait. We smiled and said no problem, you are obviously busy. He said his colleague makes a better margarita than him so he asked her to. She gave me a tall glass of what tasted like straight simple syrup. We ordered scallops and bruschetta. It took close to an hour for them to come out and they only came out after my husband asked. The entire staff was so concerned about this large party behind us. Scallops were so tiny and bruschetta was meh. We left and went to century inn and got potato skins and more cocktails. Service was wonderful as always. Very disappointed in meritage.
