My wife has been here several times for work lunches. My son has been here once for a work lunch. They both complimented the food. This is my first time here for Meritage. Have been to the building for predecessor tenants. We went today for Easter brunch. I made the reservations 6 weeks ago and was told 25 dolllars a person. We showed up and found it to be 32 dollars a person. This was expensive given that pop/ice tea was not included and cost 3.35. The 9 dollar mimosa was no bargain given previous years had unlimited mimosas for 10 to 14 dollars at other brunches. You wouldn't know it was Easter brunch because they had no decor or Easter eggs, bunnies etc. Desserts are ala carte and extra. They did put beignets on the table. They had 1 buffet line upstairs and 1 downstairs. This was the worst organization I have ever seen. They mixed breakfast and lunch items. Each buffet silver platter consisted of 2 halves. They randomly put items out! Started with dirty or wet plates. First item was mac n cheese which was ok followed by Salmon. Then you had quiche, mixed veggies, ham, burnt roadkill prime rib or roast beef, gravy and biscuits, bacon, eggs, ham, soggy mushed french toast in a million pieces with snipeys of fruit, hash browns, soggy waffle pieces. This was followed by slices of honeydew, cantaloupe and watermelon on 1 plate next to whipped cream, sour cream and chocolate chips. At the end was a Caesar salad and mixed salad with a bowl of ranch and caesar dressing. No carving stations as promised. Oh i forgot the plain rolls. Dont understand why the salads were at the end without salad plates. Everyone including my wife and I had to go back to the beginning for another giant plate. Service was good for drink refills. Food refills were slow. How could you leave mushy french toast out there! Definitely won't go back. read more

Meritage Restaurant I was attending a meeting just North of Cincinnati and my host took me to Meritage for dinner. The Village Square of Glendale is very quaint. Parking is readily available. We were quickly seated and our drink orders fulfilled. The service was excellent. I love the prices for wine and food in the mid-West, they are 1/2 the prices we have in California. For a starter, I highly recommend the grilled brussels sprouts. They were excellent. For a main course, I had the house special fish (flounder) and my colleague had their steak dinner. The portions are very large. Both dishes are recommended. Overall, a a very fun dinner. Enjoy the restaurant - 5 stars. read more

We have repeatedly received excellent service and the food is outstanding. I know that they are known for their steaks (delicious) but the seafood is some of the best I have tasted in Cincinnati. It's a rare find for both service and cuisine to be so wonderful. Highly recommend! read more

Not sure why I've grown up close to Glendale and have never eaten here. Yea I've pretty much been missing out. Mussels were perfectly placed in a delicious sauce, lamb was grilled and flavorful, crab cakes were tasty and the red sangria was a hitter as well (was better the first visit vs the second visit.) I did take my kids once and although they don't have a formal kids menu, she did tell me a list of items they can prepare for kids. I thought that was nice. Reminds me of a nice quaint neighborhood restaurant "where everybody knows your name." read more

By just passing through Glendale we discovered a WONDERFUL restaurant. Our hotel's area was full of chain restaurants so we searched on Yelp for another restaurant. We called Meritage and asked if we could come by in 15 minutes for dinner. The lady sounded a bit confused but agreed so we drove over. We didn't have very high hopes. Well, let me tell you how wrong I was. We walked into this charming restaurant and was immediately seated at a quaint little spot. Our waitress was wonderful. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. We built a marvelous meal with her help. All our food was delicious. We had the scallop appetizer and the Brussels sprouts appetizer. YUM YUM. Then we shared a salad and the Mediterranean pita. Again....YUM YUM. Also we had scrumptious white wine This marvelous place exceeded our expectations and the price point was fabulous too. If we're ever passing through town again, we will certainly stop again. Heck we may just drive a good distance to eat there again. read more

The Meritage atmosphere shines, plenty of space between tables, it feels more private, and the service staff is very attentive. We have returned three times, twice for dinner and a third for a dinner party. Often, there is live entertainment and a selection of dinner specials. We have tried both the prime rib and scallops selections and have been happy with the portion size and cooking. I will advise maybe that large parties may lead to a bit of confusion in the kitchen. In the dinner party, ~15 people, there were inconsistencies in portion sizes, primarily notable for the salads, garnish, and sauce, which were left off several plates, causing quite a few extra trips by the server to correct. Several items were unavailable from the menu. Still, I think this is a great spot to grab lunch or early dinner. read more

We met a friend of ours in town from Florida and her cousins for drinks and dinner. Our server, Julie H., was outstanding being very patient with a table that was more interested in talking than ordering. When we did finally order the food was good. I had the garlic pesto shrimp pasta, which was heavy on the garlic, but luckily I'm a fan of garlic. My wife had the Meritage salad and our friend had the French onion soup and half wedge. A few bottles of wine and the evening was a success. The service was great, the food was good and not being rushed to free up a table was fantastic. Highly recommend! We discovered this restaurant by accident- and we had the Prime Rib, prepared perfectly. Live music, terrific service in a beautiful building next to the former train station/now museum. We'll be returning when we travel back through the area. read more

Came to see Sonny Moorman and have a nice dinner in the bar. I invited a friend. We had to ask for someone to take our food order. Perhaps they thought because we were seated at a table in the bar we weren't in a hurry, but we were hungry. Fish tacos were good but nothing special. Fish sandwich had a strange taste and my friend couldn't eat it. Sonny was the best thing about it. read more

My husband and I went for the first time on a random Wednesday night. We sat at the bar upstairs as the host said there was live music up there. We were the only ones at the bar, however there was a very large party behind us and off in a separate room. It took the bartender a very long time to acknowledge us. My husband was actually standing to leave when he came over. My husband ordered an old fashioned and I ordered a margarita. The bartender was very friendly and apologized for the wait. We smiled and said no problem, you are obviously busy. He said his colleague makes a better margarita than him so he asked her to. She gave me a tall glass of what tasted like straight simple syrup. We ordered scallops and bruschetta. It took close to an hour for them to come out and they only came out after my husband asked. The entire staff was so concerned about this large party behind us. Scallops were so tiny and bruschetta was meh. We left and went to century inn and got potato skins and more cocktails. Service was wonderful as always. Very disappointed in meritage. Their menu looks good but first impressions left us very underwhelmed. read more

We've had many good dinners at Meritage and were anxious to try their Seafood prix fixe dinners ($32) offered on Tuesdays and Sundays. We went on a Tuesday and were disappointed, to say the least. The lobster was rubbery, had no lobster flavor and was over seasoned. The scallops were small and over seasoned to the point where they were almost too salty to eat. We mentioned it to the server and the restaurant made a small (25%) adjustment to the bill but it didn't compensate for the poor quality of the dinners. Unfortunately, our most recent trip to Meritage was very disappointing. Although the service was as good as usual, the food was really subpar. My husband's Caesar salad was limp and disgusting. My scallops were rubbery and inedible, the rice strangely seasoned. The carrots were flavorful but inconsistently cooked. Partly crisp, partly soft. The server offered us a 20% discount or a free dessert. Our mostly uneaten dinner still in front of us, we chose the discount and a coffee. I have dined at Meritage many times and this was very unusual. I love the atmosphere and the trains going by create a unique experience. I will try again in a month or two and hopefully their off night will be a distant memory. read more

I had heard great things about this place so possibly my expectations were a bit high. Overall there was nothing remarkable about this experience (except perhaps when the waitress dropped my salad dressing). The location is pretty central and it has a really nice private dining room on the upper level (think small office holiday party). The food itself was ok, but nothing memorable enough to return for. Between my table, we experienced the seafood 3 course meal (great value), ribeye and lamb chops. All cooked well, but the lamb chops lacked flavor. I wish I'd been in the mood for dessert because the homemade options sounded like a draw. Overall, this was ok, but probably wouldn't return. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED! I frequent this restaurant and this visit missed the mark on quality, customer service, and timeliness. The server was dismissive, food was cold and broccoli with cheese was missing cheese. When told about the food, her response was "she doesn't work in the kitchen" no offer to make it right until we requested to speak to the manager. Our request was not granted- just sent another server-- too little too late. Took over 30 minutes to get our food which wax nothing fancy. Just fish . read more

I've been here twice now. The service on both occassions was phenomenal. The food the first time was so good. My husband had a burger and I had lamb chops. The second visit I had lamb chops and they were a bit overcooked. The best bruschetta on both occasions. A solid 3 5 but rounding up to a 4 because the drinks were also solid. read more

in a somewhat surprising twist this place does a great burger, a pretty good fish sandwich, and a really good plate of salmon and asparagus. Their prices are a little bit high for what you get, the overall service and decor are not quite at that $30 entree level. The overall taste of the food is fine. read more

(3.5) Meritage is at the gorgeous Glendale area in Cincy. The location is nice, and there's plenty indoor and outdoor seating. I came in here with a friend to try their Cincinnati Restaurant week menu. We made reservations, and were tended to our seats immediately. We ordered our courses and waited for our food. 1st course: I ordered the french onion soup, and my friend got the baked brie with cranberry and walnuts. The french onion soup wasn't good- too salty for my personal taste. The brie was good, but it definitely needed more baking. 2nd course: I had the lamb shank with mushroom risotto. It was yum, with the lamb very juicy. My friend got the Salmon with carrot puree over a bed of grilled veggies. He enjoyed that a lot. 3rd course: I had the dark chocolate torte which was very, very yum. My friend got the bourbon creme brulee. I always thought creme brulee was safe, couldn't go wrong. Until I saw this. The sugar torched on the top should be fine, this was coarse. It ruined the taste. All in all, food was okay. Maybe not as worth as the $36 I paid. The service was poor. Maybe they didn't anticipate that people would turn up, or something. Food arrived slowly. No one bothered to refill our waters till we asked for it, and were then given new glasses of water. My goodness! I have arrived at burger nirvana! I have frequented restaurants in Glendale, OH but haven't had much opportunity to try Meritage. I am so glad we finally made it out for a nice, quiet dinner. Our experience was amazing - from the first introduction, Meredith was ready with a refill or answers regarding daily specials. While reservations are not required, the weekends are pretty busy. Good to have your table ready - they do have a really comfortable bar you might have a glass of wine or cocktail while you are waiting. The appetizers were tempting - next time out, I'm having the calamari or stuffed mushrooms. The special of the day almost persuaded me to forgo the burger - two bone in pork chops with bourbon cream sauce, twice baked potatoes and sautéed spinach made it pretty hard to pass on. The Meritage burger had the perfect combination of carmelized onions, crispy pancetta, arugula, balsamic reduction marinated tomatoes - I have to say - this was absolutely the best hamburger I've had in Cincinnati - the beefiness of the burger wasn't lost in the balsamic reduction - and cooked to temperature perfectly! The Brie added a nice cheesy, melty sort of gooeyness- not a detraction - next time I may ask about cheddar or gruyere. The desserts are an amazing offering of decadence - the chocolate cake with gelato - pretty much capped the night off! It's always nice to finish a fabulous dinner with a food coma inducing piece of chocolate cake! I can see this becoming a regular stop on my list of go to places in the Cincinnati area - this is a can't miss dining destination! read more

We chose Meritage as our Valentine's Day date night spot and are so glad we did. Making a reservation was super easy. Service was fantastic. Food was even better. Started with calamari as our appetizer and I highly recommend it. We had the NY Strip with Demi glacé and Prime Rib special, with a wedge salad (to rave about) and Caesar salad. Had a dinner here recently with a work colleague from out of town. Was looking for something a little different. Meritage is a cute restaurant. We ended up in the bar which is small and quite loud. I think they were understaffed (not surprising in today's world) and so they were trying to group their diners in the bar and on the patio. The food was good. I had the Shrimp Pesto Pasta and my coworker had the Thai Glazed Salmon. I thought the food was good not great. Give it a try if you are looking for something different. read more

We've eaten at Meritage probably 10 times since they opened in 2011, both lunch and dinner (including tonight). The experience has been consistently a 4 to 5 star one. Only one time, pretty early on, there were some problems with the service. But the food made up for it and by now the subpar server is either long gone or has undergone serious training. This is fine dining in a small, bright, new and clean establishment. Menu is not tremendous, but many good options, and we have had all different dishes here, everything has been delicious and beautifully presented, as well as being exactly as described, and at good temperature. Servers have the menu, the specials AND your order committed to memory - no scribble pads here. They're also very knowledgeable on the ingredients and preparation. Tonight I had the pan seared scallops - Big, tender, tasty, and perfectly seared, served over herbed rice with a vegetable. My husband had the glazed grilled salmon, which was very special. Their vegetable choices are very unique, and they feature a "vegetable of the day" which you don't see very often. They are happy to let you substitute sides, and I strongly recommend their amazing potato salad as well as the grown-up macaroni and cheese. Yes, it's pricey - but this is fine dining. To be gentle on the budget, consider one of the sandwich choices with an extra side for your meal. I've tried the Tuscan chicken and the Mediterranean vegetable sandwich: both are excellent. The mussels, daily hummus, and the stuffed mushrooms are all memorable appetizers. We had dessert here one time only, and my recollection is that it was quite good. My husband raved about the filet mignon on a previous visit, oh! And the French fries are awesome! I'm going with 4.5 stars for now; the one very minor negative tonight was that I found the dinner rolls a little too crusty and they made too many crumbs when you broke them apart and tried to butter them; but that could just be my opinion. Hope to update review in the not too distant future as I have a birthday coming up! Another good thing about Meritage is that they belong to "Eat Local Cincy." Your dining dollars translate into points to redeem for gift certificates for local independent restaurants. Eat independent! Say NO to the big chains! I'm updating to 5 stars, having returned for a birthday eve dinner on May 10. The rolls were perfect this time and it was very childish of me to find fault in the original review... What can I say... Once again, professional attentive but not overbearing service, mussels in a sauce to die for with thick garlic toast ... Beefsteak thick sliced tomatoes with fresh basil and balsamic drizzle .... Perfectly done sautéed veggie pita and that amazing potato salad. And because it was a birthday celebration, we finished with Tahitian vanilla bean creme brûlée. The sound of live background music, soft classic rock guitar, a pleasant atmosphere, a consistently great experience. You'll love Meritage. Calamari was good but.. I got the flaming Jan Oscar style and it was the biggest disappointment. The crab was dried out there was a little sauce. And the size of the filet mignon was ridiculous maybe the size of a golf ball. Twice baked potato tasted way too Herby it was awful. Our waiter was amazing though. I was incredibly let down. Meritage!! Usually our go to restaurant if we want great food and a nice atmosphere that me and friends can enjoy each other's coversations and company. Not tonight. We sat upstairs....every single chair was in bad shape....we were all worried they would fall apart. They had a live singer who had his volume turned up so loud it was uncomfortable and did not allow for any kind of communication. Our wait staff was G-R-U-M-P-Y!! Gave it 3 stars because the food was great as always but I was sadly disappointed it wasn't the nice evening Meritage usually offers.....please....do better!!! read more

Food was good. We had 4 people , a13 year old, and a 2 year old, when I received the check i found a $32. Service charge. I ask the waitress. She said when more than 5 people we automatically add an 18% service charge. She never told me this is advance no is it on the menu. When I gave them the credit card and signed there was a request for another tip. Obviously that were trying to double dip. If I had not analyzed the bill I would have paid a 40% tip . I won't go back. Be careful if you go. It's a bit overpriced too. read more

Yes, there were still customers eating. And why, when my husband asked the bartender to stop the vacuuming, he argued with us? On our waiter's recommendation we split the day's special, ribeye! Melt in your mouth good. Quaint area with on and off street parking nearby.
