Made a 6:30 pm reservation on a holiday weekend. Later received a call that the restaurant would be closing early and requested that we come in at 3:30 only to find that BrewRiver was only serving their brunch menu. Although the brunch menu looked great the items we wanted to order were on the dinner menu. The chef personally came to our table to apologize and graciously offered to accommodate our selections. The entire staff and the chef were on top of their service game! All of the food we ordered was fresh and cooked to perfection. This place is and was amazing!!!! We found it on a whim after deciding not to go to a different restaurant. It's about 10 minutes away from where we were @ Hampton Inn suites in Newport Kentucky. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very Louisiana/Bayou, very down home old realm. The music in there.... just gave to the atmosphere. The bathroom was very clean. The restaurant was very clean. The servers were very attentive. We were the first diners of the night, but it quickly filled up. The appetizers that we had were the pickles which of the night were pickles (string beans and carrots), fried green tomatoes, and Louisiana Alligator with a spicy aioli. My husband had Creole Étouffée, my middle child had Crawfish Étouffée, my oldest daughter had the Catfish Poboy, and my youngest had the Streetcar Burger, I had the Pasta Monica. We had to give the chef her flowers. She came out and spoke to us about the meal. We told her that we loved everything I almost don't wanna leave this review because, I don't want people to go because I wanna keep it for myself that's how much I love it....but I have to tell people about this restaurant because it's something else. I had a great time here the food was good and fresh and the service was great. For food I had the alligator, blackened catfish basket, fried green tomatoes, truffle Mac and cheese, Etouffe, and Pasta Monica. For drinks I had the hurricane, the espresso martini, I left my heart in Nola and sazerac. The alligator had good flavor but it was a tad bit tough. The fried green tomatoes were thin and I was not expecting that. The pasta, Mac and mussels had very good flavor. The blacked fish could have had more flavor in my opinion. This past Friday night was my first visit to BrewRiver. Since I have been to New Orleans in the past and loved the food, I was looking forward to the Shrimp Po' Boy on the menu. I sat in the bar so I could watch the band Mystic Mile perform, and they were great. I wish I could say as much for my Po' Boy. As shown in the photo, it was huge! As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to need to eat some of it with a fork before I could get it down to being a manageable sandwich, especially since it had 13 nice-sized pieces of breaded shrimp. There was so much on the French bread roll that I could not even see the roll. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and tasty, and the homemade pickle slices added a nice touch. However, once I got to the point of trying to eat it as a sandwich, I was very disappointed to find that the roll had a hard crust and tough interior. It definitely was not crisp on the outside with a flaky, paper-thin crust and airy on the inside, which is how Po' Boy rolls were in NOLA. I took two bites of the roll and decided I would finish the shrimp with a fork. I ordered the Bananas Foster bread pudding for dessert. It had a great flavor, but the banana pieces were hard, like biting into an undercooked carrot. Overall the bar service was good, but the food quality was mixed since it tasted great but had some big flaws. BTW, if you're a big fan of root beer, try their draft root beer. It was extremely tasty. I wanted so much for this to be a great experience, but I have yet to decide if I'll return to give them another try. read more

First thing I will say is that the service at BrewRiver is great. The staff is very friendly and you can tell they really like where they work. I do wish the ambiance is a little more on theme, but it's still very nice and has plenty of seating. The food is unfortunately 50/50. The gumbo poutine app we got was incredible - I could eat that forever. My shrimp po' boy was very good. The chicken dinner, however, left much to be desired. The chicken was too sweet and there wasn't enough variety in the rest of the dish to balance it. I have been here before and loved the food, but this was my friend's first impression and it unfortunately didn't resonate. Maybe just stick to the seafood or New Orlean's inspired dishes only, and you'll be good! read more

We came here on a Sunday evening for live music, but were disappointed to find that the band advertised on the website wasn't the one playing. For food, we tried the alligator with waffle and the shrimp étouffée. Unfortunately, both dishes were pretty underwhelming. The étouffée was extremely salty and the alligator was tough. First time there we did the tasting menu Easter Sunday. We loved it! The atmosphere, the music, the food & service-all great. A real fun place! The Gumbo was perfect. Loveeeeeed the food here! Definitely coming back to try all the food items! Decided to come here to Restaurant week. It was so nice outside. We got a table outside, so it was really casual. Inside the ambience includes some live music at the bar and is a little bit more intimate at the dining area. Got the chicken and sausage gumbo as a starter and the pasta Monika as the small plate. For dessert, we got the banana bread pudding. First off, the gumbo was my absolute favorite. So much flavor and spices, and it came out hot and perfect. I wish I had the option of having it as a giant bowl. The pasta Monica was also very delicious. I didn't really taste basil, but there was spinach and the sauce was very creamy and thick. It also says small plate so I was worried it would not be enough, but this was actually the perfect amount to fill you up.and then finally the dessert. Oh that came out warm gooey and absolutely perfect just the right amount of the caramel sauce and whipped cream. Service was a bit slow for a Wednesday evening. Took a while for the sever to come out after being seated and again afegetting drink orders in but it was such a nice day out and wasn't that much of a bother, though we were starting to get hungry. However, the gumbo definitely held us over well until the main dish came out. Everyone on staff was really friendly and apologetic of the weight so that was really really nice. Drinks were not that amazing it felt more like a bar while drink than a cocktail. I felt they had to substitute a lot of things that were in the menu or description and wish they had asked first if you're okay with it vs doing it so you could get something else if needed. For example, there was no cucumber on the Pimm's Cup and they had added limes and cherries, not just lemon. I'm not a huge citrus flavor person. It was still refreshing I just may have gotten something else. on Wednesdays they have $3 martinis, half-price bottles of wine and $2 off any bar drinks for an all day happy hour special which is a nice benefit of going on Wednesdays. Overall, I left very satisfied with my food and really want to come back to try all the other delicious sounding entrées. As I looked around the tables at what other people ordered it looks like the portions are all the good value. We walked in and we're greeted by the sound of a live polka sounding band playing and the bartender coming up to the hostess stand and it was the weirdest interaction I've experienced walking into a restaurant. The guy asked if we had a reservation in a very clearly not busy restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. We said that we did not have one and he said, "okay so what's going on here?" We said, "what do you mean what's going on? We would like a table?" And he said, "oh. Ok." And then walked away. He looked as if he was hungover or didn't sleep well or something, but ... you're at work? Sooooo put on your best acting skills and be friendly and polite to customers walking in the doors of the restaurant? Just a thought. Just very odd experience and I'm surprised we didn't walk out with that being the initial interaction. Anyways. The hostess came over and sat us at a table for two and we had some late lunch/ brunch with a great waitress. The Bloody Mary was topped with olives and bacon, pretty standard taste for a Bloody Mary, no complaints, nothing special. The Eggs sardou was a dish recommended by our waitress, and I can see why. The eggs were perfectly poached paired with artichoke hearts, creamed spinach and crispy potatoes to complement the meal. This was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone going there. We also ordered the Eggs st. Charles dish. It was good, and the biscuit was fluffy and tasted heavenly with the jam that came alongside it. We decided to have our rehearsal dinner at BrewRiver. It was awesome! The staff was amazing and bent over backwards for us. They were very aware of the rhythm of the party and brought the food out accordingly. There was plenty of food, perfect temperature, and of course delicious. My favorite restaurant. I eat hear at least once a month even though it takes 30-35 minutes to drive there. I love Cajun/Creole food. My favorite dish is the Etoufee (I usually get the shrimp version). My husband loves the Alligator & Waffle and Pasta Monica. Many choices from mild to spicy. Also great beer list. We came here for a reception after my uncle's funeral service. I think we had the whole place booked, or at least most of it. The staff were super kind, and helpful and professional. Drinks and food service were handled so well. We just had a buffet: salad, crackers and pimento cheese, fish and chips, and jambalaya. But man, it was a good buffet. Every single thing was great: thick chunks of tender fish, perfectly fried. Really good seasoned fries. Remoulade and tartar sauce that were clearly house-made and tasty. A nice fresh salad with house-made croutons, and a pimento cheese dip (it may originally have been a ball, but I didn't see it right away.) Cool place, with lots of nooks and crannies, and a couple of big rooms we used, plus the bar area. Decent parking (be careful pulling in and out, it's right on the road.) Good music, which they turned down when our guitar-playing friend started up. A pleasant end to a sad day. A really good way to catch up with family, in a good venue, with good food. We just moved to the area and been wanting to check this place out since it's so close to where we live. I dined at BrewRiver, but at their old location. So I was excited to check out them out here. We went on Valentines Day. They were booked solid so the only availability was the bar area which was fine with us since we did not make any reservations and there was plenty of seating (since we got there early). A live band was just setting up so I was excited to listen. They had one menu for Valentines Day special and their drink menu had so much to offer! From specialty cocktails, wine, beers on tap and more. Here's what we ordered: Chahalem Pinot Noir (Me to start off with) Esoteric Chrysallis (Mr order this) Blackened salmon (My order) Creole jambalaya (Mr wanted this so bad) La Posta Tinto red blend (After I had my meal) Chicory coffee crème brûlée (Our Dessert) The food was good! The food I thought was very good. My husband disagreed but expect dinner to be 2-3 hours as the wait staff is slow, rude and so was the hostess helping (setting new tables). We sat for 30 minutes trying to get wait staffs attention for Togo boxes. They were trying to train a new girl and could have had her helping with service, bar etc on a NYE evening. We tried ordering more drinks 2x and they said "oh we're slammed, bar is super slow" when the restaurant was only half full, the restaurant is managed very very poorly. Would come back just for this; both were as described and well made. For dinner, we ordered a bowl of gumbo, truffle Mac & Cheese, gumbo, Shrimp étouffée, and jambalaya. Truffle Mac & Cheese was served room temp to cold in some spots; this was corrected once we informed our server. The bowl of gumbo, served with rice was flavorful. The shrimp étouffée was served with a base of sausage, this was surprising from the way the menu is worded, but overall very good. We oddly had not been to the new location of BrewRiver yet. We had heard that they were struggling a little bit with loss of their lease at Sonder Brewery, so we made a point to go support them. We were there on a Wednesday night and the place was hopping, which is great. Wednesdays are also $3 martini nights, and they were good! We started with the poutine and I had the muffaletta sandwich, both were tasty. I'm also happy to report their ketchup is much better than it used to be. Our server had the whole room, which was a lot, but she hustled her butt off. The ambiance is a little bit of everything, and depending what you're looking for, they have it. There are romantic booths, large tables, outside dining, and a lively bar area. Go there and support this great, local place! read more

Had high hopes for this place. A combination of food and managent serve as the reasons that I was underwhelmed. The food options are kinda exciting. Not very spicy but Representative of creole options. They prep the bases before hand and then add the proteins in to order. It seems the idea is that the hot base is supposed to cook the protein. In my case, the base didn't cook the shrimp and I was served a partially cooked shrimp. We brought this to the wait staff and managers attention. The manager didn't seem to really care. A low quality apology and an offer to order something else. Maybe I am being extreme but this should call for comping a dish or a couple of drinks on the house. After a long day without much food my partner and I met up for an early dinner here, and had a pretty good meal. There was some very loud singing going on in the entryway / bar area, as in walking in I was stunned people would choose to sit in that same room. The singer had a great voice, the piano sounded great, but the volume was so loud on the speakers that you could hear it in the last corner of the restaurant. So we chose to set a little farther away. Service was polite, efficient, maybe not exactly warm, but I'm not there to make a friend. The real reason we chose this spot is because my partner had been craving fried green tomatoes and there's sounded really tasty, and I'd had their food at the old gastropub and new it was pretty damn tasty. The fried green tomatoes were no exception, though the breading is not what either of us were used to with fried green tomatoes it definitely worked, creating a flavorful gritty crispy crunch around the fleshy green tomatoes. I got the muffaletta, once I found out it was served hot, and she got a thing of etouffee, and they both came out in very gigantic servings. That was a very good thing, because they were also both very tasty. So why only four stars? There's a lot of good things here right? The entire time there was a light flickering at us, we asked if we could have the light fixed, the woman came over, turn the light off then turn the light back on and said okay it's fixed and then it proceeded to flicker out us again, so we asked to be moved and we were told there weren't any other spaces that we could sit in unless we wanted to sit next to the loud singer and piano. So we sat there with the light flickering, enjoying a good meal, and then got dessert to go, leaving club Brewriver behind. read more
