I dined here twice recently on a visit to Cincinnati a couple weeks ago. One visit was for lunch and the other was for dinner. Good, quality steaks! I also particularly enjoyed the loaded baked potato I had on my dinner visit. So good! I appreciate when a restaurant does the small touches which greatly enhance the taste of your dishes, like making your own bacon bits, rather than packaged! I paid over $100 for a tough 8oz 'center cut ribeye', crab cakes that were full of lumpy cornmeal, and very under-seasoned fingerling potatoes. I will give the bar and service credit-- I had a pretty tasty gin cocktail, and I believe our server was in training, but did an excellent and thorough job. The food was just not worth the price though. There was also no finesse or care in plating and presentation; just plopped on the plate. We did a small 16 person party event off of a planned menu and it was really good. There was a charcuterie board that was really nice, but the star of the show was my 12 ounce. My conference programmers recommended Prime, so I gave it a shot. Bar staff were friendly and laid back, but I'll come out and say it: the food simply wasn't worth the price. I don't mind paying more for a great chef-fired steak, but this was the most unremarkable over-$70 steak I've ever seen. (Maybe the chef had the night off?) Steak was dry and with almost zero marbling on the ribeye it lacked flavor. Felt like a Ponderosa experience at Ruth's Chris prices. Maybe I just caught them on a bad night. I'll stick with the Chicago steakhouses and eat something else next time I'm in Cincy. read more

Thought I would treat myself to lunch and decided to try Prime Cincinnati located downtown. The place is upscale with soft jazz playing at just the right volume. I was greeted, seated and quickly waited on. The staff was very informative and make excellent suggestions. Started with the vegetable soup which was very hearty , Great flavor with lots of veggies. (Made with chicken stock) Perfect for this cool rainy day. My lunch entree was Beef Tenderloin Tip sandwich was very tender with onion straws and a horseradish sauce. Very tasty & it's Certified Angus Beef. My sandwich arrived as soon as I finished my soup making for a relaxed enjoyable eat on a lunch hour. On Friday and Saturday evening they offer entertainment. Singers and musicians Happy hour is from 4 to 6 pm. Great food, excellent service, reasonably priced. We'll be back. read more

I could not be more pleased with the experience I had for my 40th birthday dinner at Prime. I contacted them the day of the event after another venue fell through, and Zach, Lilse, and the staff made everything effortlessly perfect--impressively professional service from Mario and Mariano, customized menu and display screen in the private dining room, and perfectly timed serving of perfectly prepared food. Many guests had never been to Prime and remarked that they were absolutely impressed and plan to come back. I now can't recommend any other restaurant or venue for a special dinner party in all of Cincinnati, and I will always remember the experience at Prime as a central part of what made the gathering so special. Food was delicious and our servers were awesome. I ordered the 12oz new york strip with their roasted shallot mashed potatoes and my fiancée ordered an 8oz filet mignon with a caesar salad. Both steaks were cooked very well with a good crust, and the potatoes were great. I had requested the $2 truffle add on for my potatoes, but I did not receive it nor was a I charged so no harm no foul. We had ordered the crème brûlée for dessert which was very good. We were sat in the front corner with a great view of the city, as we were right up along the front windows. Unexpected, their Bourbon Speakeasy, was unexpectedly... lackluster. Entrance - we get a "tour" on the way which to be honest is a little cheesy. It just feels like a bunch of name dropping. The entrance is through a bookcase that never closes all the way and definitely needed to be stylized better. Drinks - 1 drink per person, 3 total. Drinks weren't bad enough to send back, but weren't good enough to entice us to try others on the menu. And for $17 a drink, they should be phenomenal. Ambiance - you're in an expensive steakhouse, there's classy jazz music playing, luscious seating, and... green rave laser lights? Amazon table lamps in blue? It does not match. Service - our waiter was great. That was the redeemer. Overall I was severely disappointed and the $17 price tag per lackluster cocktail and dreadful ambiance killed it. With over 30 other speakeasy/speakeasy type bars in the area, this needs to up its game. read more

Prime's food is so good. A hidden gem here is their happy hour, where you can try some of their food at a great price. I love to get the prime burger with a cosmo - 10/10! For dinner, I've also had their steak which is great, salmon, Mac & cheese, and other dishes. They also sometimes do live music, which is a great touch. read more

My wife's filet was grainy and undercooked then when it came back it did not taste right and was still grainy. My ribeye was one of the worse ones I have ever had. Bland, lots and lots of fat. I visited Prime Cincinnati on a Saturday night before a show. We were a party of 6 and our dinners were mediocre. I had the seafood salad which was fine except for the avocado that was less than fresh. I don't even serve avocado with black spots on it at home. My husband had the seafood carbonara which he said was flavor less. My friend ordered the lamb chops which she had a difficult time cutting because they were very fatty. Some one came to our table ( man in a suit I assume a manager) to ask about our dinner and when she mentioned the amt of fat all that was said was sorry. At those prices , I would expect excellent food and service. Also please invest in an expresso machine if you are going to offer expresso martinis. We went to lunch with a client around noon on a weekday. The place was quiet with only a couple other tables in service. The place was spotless and the service was flawless. I was surprised to see the lunch prices being so reasonable. Myself and our client both ordered the grilled chicken Caesar salad for $12 plus $9 for the added chicken. Was it the best? No but it was good and the dressing was a mild version with great taste. The lettuce was not as crunchy as I prefer but that didn't stop me from eating every bite. Our other attendees both ordered a "Prime Stack". These are sandwiches. Both ordered the Tenderloin Tip stack with Parmesan Frites. Both really enjoyed them, especially the frites that were cooked perfectly. I am not sure how much value this review has because I have a feeling that dinner service, when you might enjoy a bit heavier meal, would be more delightful. I would especially like to try their theater menu sometime. However, if you are in downtown Cincy at lunch time, Prime would be a fine choice that gives you a relaxed atmosphere, great service, good food and an overall great value proposition. read more

Was not busy, yet service was still very slow. Tended to be visibly ignored by staff. The food was only okay, the center cut ribeye seemed to be more like a filet. The ambiance was not great either, very squished almost feels like you're at a banquet. Maybe just my servers, but overall experience was not enjoyable. read more

We had the most perfect Thanksgiving dinner here. After years of laboring in the kitchen, cooking and taste-testing, and being unable to actually enjoy eating on Thanksgiving, this year I took a stand and said "NO." I decided to switch it up this year and after perusing menus, landed on Prime as they were the only one to offer both turkey and ham. For starters, we shared an order of traditionally prepared deviled eggs. Hubs and I opted for their Thanksgiving special for which included a salad. The adult special of turkey+ham was accompanied by mashed potatoes, dressing, Brussels sprouts, and cranberry sauce. I also ordered their truffle mac/cheese for the table which had a crispy panko topping and was cooked perfectly. Everything literally tasted like Thanksgiving (well seasoned and just overall delicious-ness.) The kid-sized version also received high marks from the littles. The only low-point was the dessert (banana pudding which didn't have enough wafers for my preference.) Overall, we had a lovely time and will make eating out on Thanksgiving day a new tradition. read more

Our second visit to this restaurant was disappointing. My daughter reported the lamb chops were "just OK" (not as good as I make for her). My spouse found the filet in her salad to much too salty. My seafood cacio e pepe was mediocre, at best. The shrimp were way too salty, and the pasta was so dense that if you packed it into a musket on top of some gunpowder, you could kill Redcoats with it. Did a corporate event here, person hosting the event told the planner that people could order whatever they wanted to drink instead of a set menu. So this place set up a bar with all super expensive booze and no menus so people thought their only booze options were the expensive stuff. We went ridiculously over our budget because they did this, when I tried to talk to the manager his response was "well when you dont limit us we are a business and have to make money too" The whiskey tab was thousands. On top of that they served burnt chicken parmasan that was horrible and should have never been served. This was cruel to do to a corporate event, they could have put people's jobs at risk and did not care at all. read more

My hubby surprised me with a birthday dinner at Prime. We choose the Valentine's menu with wine pairing since it's right around the corner. First I have to say, the service is excellent!! The waiters are on top of their games, very friendly, fast and efficient. We started off with the tenderloin. So tasty and so tender! Next on the menu: very good lobster bisque. It was really! good! My hubby choose paella as a main course, I opted for the sea bass. While my hubby was raving about his paella, I was disappointed with the sea bass. The fish was cooked well but the risotto tasted like over salted broth and was not good at all. Our dessert, tree leches was not bad but I was hoping for a more moist cake. Had dinner last night at Prime in cincinnati. We sat at the bar. Not super busy, we arrived at 4:45 going to Nate Bargatze show, but the service bar action was building. Our server was very slow to acknowledge us and the service was well not good. I have no problem understanding a busy night, but acknowledgement of a customer helps with patience. She was very quick to greet and serve our neighbor who arrived after us. Always willing to be patient. We order our drinks an old fashion and a beer. I asked about the wine list she pointed to wines by the glass. I asked for the wines by bottle list, which provided a very perplexed look as if such list did not exist. Another bartender came to the rescue (thank you). Prime is a relatively expensive place as dinner was $400 with gratuity. You should expect better service. Overall food was good, but not great, although recommend the scallop appetizer. Environment was good but the evening definitely not what you hoped. Has been a while since being here and had similar not great experience. Sorry strike 2 Prime. I will put my dollars elsewhere. read more
