Had dinner last night at Prime in cincinnati. We sat at the bar. Not super busy, we arrived at 4:45 going to Nate Bargatze show, but the service bar action was building. Our server was very slow to acknowledge us and the service was well not good. I have no problem understanding a busy night, but acknowledgement of a customer helps with patience. She was very quick to greet and serve our neighbor who arrived after us. Always willing to be patient. We order our drinks an old fashion and a beer. I asked about the wine list she pointed to wines by the glass. I asked for the wines by bottle list, which provided a very perplexed look as if such list did not exist. Another bartender came to the rescue (thank you). Prime is a relatively expensive place as dinner was $400 with gratuity. You should expect better service. Overall food was good, but not great, although recommend the scallop appetizer. Environment was good but the evening definitely not what you hoped. Has been a while since being here and had similar not great experience. Sorry strike 2 Prime. I will put my dollars elsewhere. read more

Walked in at 5:45 with no reservation, and was told they didn't have anything open until after 8pm, but we could eat at the bar. All kinds of open tables and that continued the entire time we were there. I'm not sure what has happened to the restaurant industry, but why do they just leave tables empty when people don't show up? We sit at the bar and are ignored for 15 minutes. The staff is literally doing nothing but walking back and forth. 2 of the guys looked right at us sitting there with no drinks or menus and did nothing. We finally have someone ask us about drinks, they get them, then run away. We had to ask for menus, and then it was at least 20 minutes before he came back to take our order. The lobster bisque has changed, and not for the better. It has this odd pumpkin pie taste, and zero lobster. The French onion soup was good. The filet was really salty and not cooked as requested. The prosciutto wrapped scallops are bacon wrapped and way overcooked. They're also swimming in a bowl of tasteless sauce, with a couple of random green beans thrown in for no apparent reason. The crème brûlée is very tasty and well done. Overall, the service is terrible and slow for zero reason. There's way too many people looking busy without actually doing anything. To be in a world where you have to compete against Jeff Ruby's across the street is not a fair one to begin with, but Prime does their best. Appetizers and sides could feed a table of four and they are reasonably priced given their large portions. The spicy crab dip did the job, probably wouldn't have gotten it if I had known the complimentary bread/oil was coming next. The Loaded Potato was the size of a small meteorite, again could feed a table of four. And the truffle Mac and cheese was okay, noodles could have been cooked longer wasn't as smooth as I was hoping for. The steaks were DISAPPOINTING! Plenty of unwanted fat, as well as it just lacked flavor. Mine came out pretty rare, I asked for it to be cooked more and they gave it back medium well. They did not provide a Time Machine otherwise going back to the rare option would have been at the top of my list. She did like her Filet though. The price isn't too far off from Jeff Ruby's, so I can't justify ordering a steak here again. If I were to do it again: Load up on Bread/Oil Order some Soup/Salad Spend the rest on Sides/Appetizers to share All and all the live music was actually very good, they played college football on the big screens. I made my reservation through OpenTable and they made a special birthday menu for my special guest as well as a free dessert, Thank You for the Brownie points. I don't know if I'll be back. Wonderful lunch at Prime! The crab cake appetizer was very good and my strawberry salad with salmon was amazing. Honestly the best salmon I've ever had added to a salad, good seasoning and perfectly cooked. Normally salmon on a salad ends up being over cooked or dry but this was perfect. The service went above and beyond there as well. Everyone from the hostess to the server and folks helping bring out food were extremely nice to the adults at the table and especially my daughter. They brought her food out first (life saver and very smart, thank you!) and for unknown reasons she was telling everyone it was her birthday...it was not and I explained that to them. They still brought her a small dessert and told her "happy early birthday" How often are nice restaurants that kind and friendly to small children? In my experience almost never, I can't thank the staff enough, my entire family loved lunch and everyone left with a smile. read more

We came here on Cincinnati's Restaurant Week. To be honest I'd never heard of the restaurant we're not from this area we're closer to Dayton. They specialize in steak my husband tried there 3 fillet we both got the lobster bisque I had the Halibut instead of the filet. For dessert we both had the pretzel brownie ice cream dessert. I'm not a huge fan of red meat but I really liked their filet there mini filets. I like that they were thin and the texture... it wasn't chewy. I don't usually get red meat when we go to restaurants I'll just have a bite or two if his. But if we return here I I think I'll try their fillets for myself. Instead of the three different toppings though I think I would just get the horseradish on all three. The Halibut evidently isn't something that's on their normal menu but it was really good. It was a huge portion I ended up taking about half of it home. I'm diabetic and cauliflower is the big saying for replacing mashed potatoes I've tried it other places and was not a fan but here it was really good. I would definitely be okay with having the cauliflower mash again. We both had the brownie. I assume that what we got was a smaller version of what they serve Restaurant Week. But it was definitely big enough it was very rich. We both felt like it had a little bit too much pretzel in it cuz it was I like sweet and salty together but it was a little overboard on the salty but I enjoyed it. I wouldn't have wanted a bigger portion than what I had. Forgot to mention the cocktail it was a seasonal cocktail called soul-searching that the server described as pair and Ginger vodka cocktail. I really like it I would definitely get that again. I only had one if I think if I had to I would have been really buzzed. The ginger really felt good to my throat. It's allergy season and I've been having a lot of sinus. I even ate a few nibbles of the candied ginger that was a garnish in the cocktail. Even with the restaurant Week prices it was a very pricey meal. The many fillets that Ken chose didn't come with any saying so he ordered loaded tots which of course we're extra. And my cocktail I think it was around $15. So it wasn't something that we would do every Dave but if you're celebrating something special like an anniversary or birthday. They asked if we were celebrating something when we were seated and we said no... Other nice restaurants give you a complimentary dessert. I don't know if that would have been the case here. The service was excellent they told us that it we would be helped by a couple different people and they didn't an exceptional job. They did mandates social distancing and masks and they did have hand sanitizer since this is the Coronavirus new world. There's a parking garage right next door so that was very convenient for parking. I really enjoyed our meal I would recommend it if the price doesn't scare you off or you're celebrating something special. Even with my cocktail we were a bit under $200. I recently went to a Christmas party at Prime in downtown Cincinnati, and they did a stellar job. It is difficult to serve a large group, and especially when you are all getting steaks at different temperatures. I would say the service and food were great from cocktails to finish. The bar tender was on top of whatever we wanted, and served all through dinner at our tables. Then the servers were extremely attentive, and the food came out hot and perfectly cooked. It was a magical night. I have been to several other well known restaurants in Cincinnati with large groups, and this was the best food and service I have ever experienced. I know how difficult it had to be to serve so many people, especially when they have had a few to drink. Stellar job, Prime! read more

Just an amazing dinner for Valentine's Day. I was given a red rose as soon as I sat at the table, which was a very nice touch. We started with a house salad and deviled eggs. The eggs were wonderful. The salad was just ok- I would skip that next time. Hubs got the 12 oz Wagyu Filet- it melted in your mouth. I got the Sea Bass- also delicious! Our sides consisted of Creamed Spinach, Brussel Sprouts, and Parmesan Risotto. The sprouts were super sweet. The risotto was amazing, and I am still snacking on it 2 days later. We finished our meal with an Irish Coffee and Peanut Butter Chocolate cake. Oh man, is all I can say. That cake is to die for! I could just sum up this review by saying the steakhouse salad has potatoes in it and there's no way you should miss out on it. But I'll try to add a little more I ate here for the first time before the bengals game last night and was looking for something not too heavy before the game. The steakhouse salad sounded like it checked all the boxes so I went with that. I usually eat steaks well done (I know, I know) but decided to go with medium-well steak on my salad and it was cooked perfectly, really just melted in my mouth. The potatoes in the salad were a nice touch and I didn't even mind the onions. The dressing had s good flavor and I really enjoyed my meal. During this crazy time of COVID-19, and stay-at-home orders, how restaurant food is enjoyed has changed greatly. In the case of Prime, we decided to take this opportunity to try their steaks. That's it. Just the steaks. (Order the sides elsewhere for a fun and eclectic evening.) They are a steakhouse after all. Can their steaks stand alone? The answer is yes. Our steak of choice for sampling was ribeye. Meat seemed to be cooked to order. It was a hair over, but I am contributing that to the carryover cooking during drive time. Meat was flavorful. Meat cut easily. Grill marks on both sides. There was wasn't any gristle. Food was ready about 20 minutes after the time promised. It would have been nice to know the sides are meant to be shared (wasn't explained on the menu) so we could have planned better. It took awhile though, and I was three quarters of the way done before they arrived. I also has some bread with garlic oil. The garlic oil had a plastic piece floating in it. We had a large group the evening we dined at Prime, 10, so we had a private room for dinner, which also meant we had a primary server and his assistant. Both were provided excellent service, managing to keep things moving throughout the three hours while keeping everyone happy satisfied. Since I prefer to eat my calories, I only had a single glass of wine, so when apps arrived, glasses down! The calamari was what I'd expect at a place like Prime. I passed on the octopus and oysters, but the bread they served with the goat cheese was one I that had me asking for that plate to pass my way again. Shrimp cocktail was also good, very large shrimp and a bitey bit of horseradish in the marinara. I ordered the soup du jour, a flavorful broth-based soup with sausage, and for the the main, the delmonico ribeye. I've had a bone-in delmonico at capital grille a few times, and this was just flavorful, tender, and well cooked. The medium well was spot on, and it needed nothing, as a great steak should! The sides were larger portions than expected, even as shareables. The gnocchi was very tasty. We had a couple plates of the two different mashed potatoes floating around, but of the potatoes, the tots were the best. I don't know you can call something the size of a tangerine a "tot" but it had a crisp outer, molten potato inner, and was swimming in beer cheese and sour cream. What's not to like?!? My advice, cut it in half and let it cool for a couple minutes. Despite my stomach's protests, I had to try some of the desserts. We had at least one of each for the group. The half baked cookie - yum! The pretzel brownie was a little dense but good, touch of salt, some crunch, and caramel. I'd opt for either of those before the cheesecake (pretty much what you'd expect). I never saw the banana cream pie nor the crème brûlée, though there were a couple of each, they must have been good bc they never made it to my end of the table! Took some friends to Prime Cincinnati last night for dinner. I had the 8 oz filet and, as usual, it was cooked perfectly as it melted in my mouth. The Spanish octopus appetizer looks like a new addition to the menu and was delicious. DJ was the perfect host and Emme, our server and her assistant, were fantastic! My Mr. made reservations a month ago and surprised me for dinner here. I was shocked and excited at the same time. The moment we walked in, it was an awesome experience all around. It's our 3 year anniversary and what a perfect night to celebrate it here. This is my first time dining and been wanting to try it for awhile now. We were seated near the window (bar area). Perfect! The natural lighting was really nice (I get tired of sitting in dark areas in restaurants). Plus we were seated near the live music (which was not loud). What did it for me was the personalized "Happy Anniversary Sandra and Josh" on our menu. So nice that they took the time to do that. Our server was Tina and she was amazing! She covered the whole menu, gave recommendations, was patient answering all my questions and friendly! I even learned the different types of steaks. How they are prepared, aged and they are USDA PRIME. They purchased most from a farm in Columbus, OH. They have certified angus beef, Ohio Wagyu, and house dry aged beef. High quality beef! We started of Gascon Reserva Malbec (2015) my Mr thought it was pair well with our meals. Tina suggested the New England Calalmari which was drizzled with spicy aioli-hoisin glaze. She told us it was their best seller and her personal favorite so we started off with that. Less than 15 minutes, we got our appetizer and was truly impressed! The calamari was not chewy! Breaded, seasoned to perfection and the sauce complimented well! She didn't not rush us and felt no pressure to order right away. Everything was timed perfectly and I appreciated that. After finishing our appetizer we ordered our meal. I got the 6oz filet mignon (cooked medium) . It comes with a salad or soup so I got their house salad (field or greens, fresh croutons, onions and cherry tomatoes with peppercorn ranch). I got an additional side to go with my steak. I thought the truffle mashed potatoes would hit the spot. Their sides are huge (family size). My Mr got the Berkshire Pork Tenderloin- lightly smoked, chimichurri marinated with rice & beans pork belly, with tropical salsa. He got the summer salad with his meal. With our salads they gave us fresh sourdough bread with basil butter! So delicious! We got our meals and omg!!! I was in heaven. My steak was so moist, cooked perfectly and seasoned to where I didn't need to dip it in the sauce! The best steak I've ever had! My Mr enjoyed his meal that he cleaned his plate! I'd been on the hunt for a perfect anniversary spot for my lady and I for a few months when I thought of Prime. I had other spots in mind, but Prime stood out to me for the overall atmosphere shown on their web site, plus the fact that they had live music most weekend nights. They also asked if it was a special occasion and I mentioned our anniversary. The experience when we got there was nothing but top notch. We were seated at a perfect table as requested, and our menus were personalized reading "Happy anniversary Sandra & Josh". Our server, Tina, was awesome and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. We started out with great bottle of Argentinian Malbec and an order of New England calamari. The wine was exquisite and the calamari was epic, possibly the best I've ever had. Tina definitely let us take our time with it all too. We didn't feel rushed for one second like most restaurants that rely in table turnover. As for dinner, my lady opted for the filet mignon along with the house salad with peppercorn ranch dressing and a side of truffle mashed potatoes (family sized portion so we could share it), while I went with the Berkshire pork tenderloin and Summer salad. Everything looked and tasted amazing! Even the sourdough bread that came with it all was excellent. All the menu items are ala carte. Cocktails: Lemon Bullet $14, Amaretto Sour $10 and cocktail. It was the best Amaretto sour I have ever had. The lemon bullet did not skimp on alcohol and was stronger than we both like. We're not really drinkers, so this might be perfect for others. Dinner: 12 oz. Filet Mignon $68, wedge side salad $8, baked potato $14, Crab cakes $18, Parmesan risotto $16. His filet mignon was perfectly cooked and he ate everything on his plate. The crab cake was moist inside with a crispy crust. Very nice. The risotto was VERY heavy on the parmesan. It was enough to feed 4. I think there was WAY too much parmesan and compromised the balance of flavor. I would give it a 6.5. The service was good. Summer and Jerry were professional and attentive without being bothersome. Had the best date night here! So many great things to mention - our waitress, Abby, was fantastic. So sweet and prompt! The waiter helping to bus was really kind too, I didn't catch his name though. We started with the crab cake and it was soooo good. I got an 8oz filet with mushrooms and onions, and my husband got the NY strip! Steaks were cooked perfectly and were So. Damn. Good! We split the bacon bourbon Brussels and the Parmesan risotto. The risotto is pretty rich, so keep that in mind. Heated up great for leftovers though! This was my first visit to prime. I thought I would try something new. It exceeded my expectation. The waitress Hope was friendly helpful and gave good recommendations. The ambiance is perfect for a date. We are able to hear songstress Marla perform. She has an amazing voice and it really set the mood for a relaxing atmosphere. We had meatballs for an appetizer, they were delicious. We had a fresh Caesar salad that was tasty. I ordered a ribeye and the peppercorn sauce. It was the best steak I've had from all of the high end places I've tried. The loaded potato was big enough for two to share. My husband had garlic shrimp linguini he thought it was very good. My wife and I decided on Prime to celebrate our anniversary. The general rule of thumb for restaurants that have high prices, is that there should be consistency between the menu, the execution of the menu, the waiters and the atmosphere. As far as the menu goes, there's a pretty good set of options. For the appetizer, we chose the Prosciutto Scallops and the Sweet Chili Chorizo Muscles. The scallops were cooked wonderfully and the miso-glaze that accompanied it was very delectable. However, it was a bit salty (I believe there was salt on the scallop, the glaze and of course the prosciutto). Overall it was enjoyable, just needed water. The muscles, specifically the chili sauce, was fantastic. The chorizo was cooked nicely and paired well with the freshness of the muscles. My wife had the Burrata Salad and the Braised Beef--the Burrata was simple: cheese, basil, tomatoes and balsamic. Pretty much a cheat code, she enjoyed. The braised beef had good flavor, as well as the mashed potatoes however the white beans felt like an after though. The menu mentioned Swiss Chard as well, but this also appeared hidden. I had the Seafood Chopped salad--the louie dressing was good enough to drink. It paired nicely with the crab and eggs (weird sentence, right?). The shrimp that was offered were two unseasoned cocktail shrimp, which also felt like an afterthought. The wife had the Grippo Brownie, which she enjoyed. The description seemed experimental with pretzel dust and grippo seasoning but it ultimately just came out to be a regular brownie. I had the half-baked chocolate chip cookies which took me back to my childhood. Unfortunately, it was poorly executed. The cookie was upside down, so the soft and gooey part was on the bottom and mixed with the aluminum foil it was packaged with. I had to scrape with fingers to reclaim what I'd lost, which assuaged the sweet tooth in me, but still, dish it was lost. Overall, I'll give a 3.5/5 - great menu, service was polite and atmosphere was calm. Execution is the only thing that brought those down. read more

Service was exceptional with our group of 9 ladies, some having special requests. No one was given someone else's food or check, and requests were followed to a T. They even personalized our printed menu for our special occasion. The food was also well worth the price, and portions were plenty. Highly recommend this place for lunch groups. read more

Best spot for Burger Week! For those who don't know, burger week is a huge deal in Cincy where restaurants offer cheap/discounted burgers. Prime is a very well known restaurant in the area (and also very pricy), and had their Jack burger for $5. My friends and I ordered 4 burgers and two sides to share (fries and brussel sprouts). The burger was quite honestly delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the toppings all paired together well. The fries and brussel sprouts were okay... Fries were very thin, and the brussel sprouts were made with syrup which made them oddly sweet. But I definitely expected more coming from a high end restaurant. As for the asthetic, Prime is definitely upscale. I came in with a briefcase and gym bag and they offered to check my bags for me. Prime had a very classy, edgy vibe with low lighting- perfect for a date night. Overall, I was impressed with Prime. Not sure I'd come often just because of the high prices, but it's a perfect spot for a night out. read more
