Shires has inspired me to write. My experience was fit for a foodie and exceeded my expectations. The food, service and ambiance were all spot on. Upon arrival, my friend and I received news that there would be a short wait for our table, so we grabbed a seat at the bar. I appreciated their variety of craft cocktails and decided on the Smokey Harvest. Composed of Mezcal, apple cider and a delicious spiced demerara syrup, omgoodness! It was interesting, well-balanced and tasty. My friend ordered the Raven with rum and ginger beer as its main ingredients. A little before both cocktails were ready, we were notified that our outdoor table was available. Immediately stepping onto the rooftop, I knew that's where I belonged. The view of the riverfront was stunning! It also helped that the weather was absolutely perfect. Now for the food. We ordered fried green tomatoes and spinach dip to start. For our entrees, my friend ordered a burger and I, the mushroom tagliatelle. My dish was phenomenal. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the hint of truffle sealed the deal. The Reds won that night, so our experience ended with the beignets for dessert and fireworks. What a perfect night. read more

2/5 Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing, especially since this was supposed to be a special night for my partner's birthday. The food was okay overall, but the chicken was still visibly pink in the middle, which was concerning. When making the reservation, I specifically requested outdoor seating with a nice view. Instead, we were seated in a back corner where you cannot see the view at all. You're literally tucked away in the corner, and that area looked very raggedy and completely different from the atmosphere we were expecting. When we asked if we could be moved, we were told no. What made this even more frustrating was hearing another party ask to be moved shortly after us and being given the table we had requested. I also included in the reservation that it was my partner's birthday, but that was completely overlooked. Meanwhile, the table right next to us was celebrating a birthday and received recognition, which made the experience feel even more disappointing. Between the seating, the undercooked chicken, and the lack of attention to a special occasion we had specifically mentioned, the night was honestly a complete bust. Dependable, delicious, and De "Shires" is another great restaurant pre-concert and pre-events at Paycor Stadium. The view is amazing and the decor is warm and refreshing. I've never been on the outdoor deck, but the views look amazing! The servers are attentive and support one another. There's a seat for any taste, from couches to tables. You have options. The bartender is fantastic. The cherry garnish on beverages is limited, but that's not a game changer. Love the crab cake and the spinach dip is tasty! We stopped at the Shire's rooftop during blink 2026. We did not have reservations and they were able to accommodate us anyway inside. I am glad they were able to fit us in. It is a very beautiful restaurant and the food was well worth the price. I have never had beef Wellington and I had wanted to try it at some point, and they offer beef Wellington bites, which was the perfect opportunity. Very delicious. would highly recommend. read more

After our happy hour drinks at Bar 901, we were trekking over to a different restaurant for dinner; however, only bar seating was available so we went to plan B (which was this place in the AADVANTAGE dining program). Located on the 10th floor of an apartment bldg., this is a beautifully upscale and library quiet restaurant perfect for dining out on special occasions. We ended up ordering the meal for 2 @ 120.00 which incl 2 Caesar salads, big bite size pieces (2/ea) of salmon, filet mignon, sirloin, chicken, & 4 shrimp. You also get two sides of your choice in which we chose the broccolini and the mac n cheese. The food was good but a little too rich for my tastes as I felt like they cooked everything in butter. The broccolini was crisp but also felt heavily cooked in butter and cheese. We ended the meal with the berry creme brulee which was also very good. Views are spectacular and the patio is open; however, no dining service is available (you have to place your order with the bartender and pick it up yourself to dine al fresco). The food was falsely advertised. The flatbread was not on a flatbread and the beef Wellington bites had a ground mixture inside. The prices are very steep. The service felt a bit off and we were the only people there on a Sunday at 6-7 times. For such a nice restaurant and view you would think the service and food would match. We sat down and our waiter was quiet slow to come and greet us. I know they were busy for restaurant week and I aknowledge that but it took a long time for our food to come as well. The items on the menu we ordered didn't match the description and the presentation felt sloppy. We orderd the soup and not till after we had our first course and probably 20 mins goes by we were told they were out of the soup. Very disappointing and felt like when we ordered they should've let us know. The caesar salad was small and nothing special. The bread for the lobster roll wasn't even toasted. Everything about our meal felt careless. Our main was the NY Strip and the chef feast for two. The NY strip was cooked well but everything was over salted. The chef feast for two was smaller than anticipated. The NY and filet were not cooked well and tough. It did come with two sides, we chose the mac and cheese and french fries. Those were better than the meats. My friend wanted to order dessert and when the waiter came back he said the kitchen was already closed. I think we should've been notified like any other restaruant would for any last calls before kitchen close. Everything about our experience felt unprofessional and sloppy. Shires is an expensive place to dine and certainly was not worth it. We all left still hungry and unsatisfied. The only thing good about here is the view. read more

I was greeted off the elevator and was quickly informed that the kitchen was closing in 5 minutes. Which was fine, I knew I wanted a steak and I could figure out a side quickly. I asked to sit near a window and they were so nice to accommodate me. Justin was my server and reiterated the kitchen closing shortly. However, he did not make me feel rushed. I asked him what he recommended for an app and he did not fall short of the beef Wellington bites as they were delicious! I ordered the Filet and as a side -- the mushrooms and onions (which included spinach and garlic in it). This meal and side combo worked so well together. The red wine Demi and herb butter for the filet worked well. I had my filet medium rare and it was cooked nicely. But the flavor of this steak was spot on! So delicious. Justin was so kind to box up my leftovers and said he could see if the kitchen would prepare for me a dessert -- even though they were closed. He did not have to do this but I appreciate it so much as I love to finish off my meal with something sweet. They were so sweet to prepare for me the crème brûlée. I had no idea there would be Cinnamon Toast Crunch and it was honestly a nice touch. The custard was rich and creamy and contrasted nicely with the crunchy cereal and torched sugar. I enjoyed everything from start to finish. After a long work day of hustle and bustling, it was nice to have a quick dinner and not feel rushed by Justin. My friends and I attended restaurant week this fall at Shires. None of us had ever been before, and I'd love to try it out again when the weather is nicer so we can take advantage of the Rooftop. Our server was attentive - quickly catching on to the likes/dislikes/quirks of our group and capitalizing on them (hello extra cherries with our cocktails lol). I'm between a 3 and a 4 star here. We have been several times, and it's just a little hit and miss. Visited last night during restaurant week. The lobster roll and beef Wellington bites were excellent. The ceasar salad was very average, and my steak, ordered medium rare was fully medium on one side and too rare to eat on the other. The salmon my friends had was much better. Service was ok, Prices, even during a restaurant week feature, were on the higher side. The location is cool enough to bring it from 3 to 4. We continue to love love this place. My husband and I come here either for Valentine's Day or our anniversary. It's become one of our favorite restaurants to go to when we know we are willing to spend quite a lot of money. They have a great view from all of their windows and the place is just great overall. Ambience is very comfortable and service has always been top notch. Food is always good and there's really no complaints at all! You can either park in the garage across the street or find Street parking. Walk in and they have their own elevator that goes up to the very top. Reservations are recommended! read more

I wasn't wow'd by this place, but I would be interested in going back. The biggest compliment I can give is the ambiance - the inside is on the quirkier side which adds to the already unique experience of being on the 10th floor. If you like speedy and efficient service, you will be delighted. I was between the chicken roulade and wild mushroom tagliatelle. Early dinner on a night when no teams were in town playing so nice an quiet and easy to park on the street. Compliments to the chef as the pork chop was cooked perfect and salmon dinner was also spot on! With the help of Ron, manager and Brooke, server, my planned birthday dinner party for my daughter and guests went from what I could see as mediocre from my efforts to spectacular. Ron went the extra mile to accommodate my chosen flowers, place cards and other details and offered suggestions that only experience and professionalism could generate. Chef and his staff created 12 over the top meals. The beauty and architecture of the venue provided a tremendous backdrop for photos. We love the summertime and we love to be able to enjoy rooftop drinks all summer. This was the perfect place to celebrate! The menu is pretty vast so we were excited to see a feast for two! And let me tell you, this was quite a feast. Two types of steak, chicken, salmon, and shrimp. You also get a choice of two sides. We chose Mac and cheese and the potato fingerlings. Salmon was cooked well done and was not very good, filet was asked for medium but was medium rare (not bad but still could have been cooked properly). They do substitute so that was nice. Service was friendly. We were seated in one of the rooftop enclosures, which is what we asked for, however it was right next to the door and was very cramped. Every time anyone passed through the door next to us it slammed loudly. Two-top tables are already small, so with the enclosure we had little wiggle room. The table was also wobbly. I think this place could be cool, but it missed the mark that evening. Maybe if we had one more person with us we could have gotten a bigger seating area away from the door. Nice restaurant "hidden" away on the 10th floor. It has great views of the Ohio river and Roebling bridge. The atmosphere inside has an 'old club' feel. While others mentioned service as a stumbling block, our service was very good- attentive and timely. The pork chop was very flavorful as were the fingerling potatoes. Wonderful birthday experience at the Shireś Rooftop! Beautiful decor throughout. Sultry lighting, and stunning color scheme. Greeted & sat immediately. I opted to get a Moscow Mule. Crafted with care & absolutely delicious. You can tell they make their mixers in house! The feast for two was everything & more. The Caesar salad was gone before I could even get a picture! Steaks were cooked perfectly mid-rare & We enjoyed the fingerling potatoes & Goat cheese broccolini. My favorite part might have been the rooftop remoulade with the grilled shrimp! . The margarita I had was desirable. Again, house made mixes make a difference! We'd talked about trying Shire's for years and never took the plunge, mostly because of the mixed reviews, but their Restaurant Week menu was compelling and we'd been to Nicola's so many times that we decided to take a chance. I'm not sure we'll go back for dinner. The apps and entrees (we had salmon Oscar and the wild boar chop special) were good, the salads meh, and the service very uneven. It took about 20 minutes to get our first cocktail. We had a wait of about 35 minutes between our apps and the salad course. Several tables nearby that were seated after us were served much more quickly. Our server was friendly; it seemed like there were staging issues in the kitchen beyond her control. But the rooftop patio is a wonderful space, quiet with nice seating areas and wonderful views of downtown and the Suspension Bridge. Perfect for a nightcap on a nice fall evening. read more

This is my go-to brunch spot in Cincinnati whenever I'm in town for a Reds or Bengals game. The rooftop view is spectacular on a pretty day; you can see the whole of the city. It's a bit tough to find this place the first time, but many treasures are well-hidden. The decor is classy and - most importantly - the food is excellent. We ate here years ago when they first opened on a weekend night. The experience was pretty bad, slow service, meh food and we were seated six inches from the table next to us. When friends came into town this week, they picked to go here and I was dreading it, but it was so much better. The place was not busy at all, empty really on a Thursday night, which was sad. Ambiance here was great! We had a greenhouse on the rooftop for our party of 8. Unfortunately they are not see through so you do not get a view from the rooftop. I get that large parties are a lot, but there were a couple mishaps with our experience. My burger and my boyfriend's burger were swapped, he removed all of the toppings and his came with toppings. Bacon on his burger was missing. Spinach artichoke appetizer never came out. Waitress offered me a purse hanger and forgot to come back with it. At the end of the night, they were unable to split the check based on what each person had ordered, so we all had to figure out how much each person owed and venmo one person. It was slightly hectic but overall we had a nice experience. I will say the burger was nothing special, I'd say go for something a little nicer if you come here. We have been to Shire's Rooftop several times. This time was disappointing. Our party of 8 was forced to put our check on one credit card and then settle up among each other. This was not communicated in advance when the reservation was made and was not consistent with our past experience when each member of our large group got a separate check. Their policy allows for individual tipping for large parties, but somehow individual checks are not possible. They also require a credit card to make a reservation for 6 or more and charge $10 per person. If the reservation is not canceled within forty eight hours. If they can tell you that in advance, they should be able to tell you that separate checks are not available for large parties. Food was not hot and service was mediocre. read more

We rented a rooftop greenhouse for my son's birthday- but with the wind advisory, we had to stay inside. The decor was cute and cozy. Our service was decent and the food was really good! Seemed to be pretty expensive for what it was, though. We loved the fries, salmon, and beignets the most!! Would love to come back and have a drink on the roof when there's better weather. However; we had gift cards from Christmas that had Shires listed on it and when we went to use them (100.00$ worth) we were greeted by a manager who stated they did not accept these cards as they did not give permission for them (the gift card company) to put them on it. No offer to discount or anything just sorry about your luck kind of attitude. We paid with my credit card but if they are aware of this issue it would have been nice to have a disclaimer on their website or even as you walk into the restaurant. Aside from that I am sure we would have chose another place to eat at for my wife's birthday. All and all if you plan on going may want to make sure you are NOT using a gift card. read more

I had brought a friend for their very first time, excited to show them the venue after a decent experience about a year ago. Unfortunately, what unfolded left me stunned. To start, the air conditioning in your space is clearly not functioning adequately. The venue was uncomfortably warm--not only for guests trying to enjoy a night out, but especially for your staff who have to work in these conditions. It's unacceptable that a restaurant of your caliber cannot provide basic climate control during the summer. To make matters worse, the quality and pricing of your drinks were extremely disappointing. I ordered a Bee's Knees cocktail and a gin and tonic. The Bee's Knees was $16--a steep price, and frankly, the most expensive I've seen in the city. For comparison, the same drink is $11 at Longfellow and $12 at FiftyFifty, both of which consistently serve exceptional cocktails. The drinks we were served last night were poorly made, lacked balance, and left us genuinely unimpressed. I was shocked at the overall decline in your bar program and the lack of attention to detail. Shires is a beautiful venue with enormous potential, but last night was a major letdown. I strongly suggest they send their bar team to places like FiftyFifty, Longfellow, and MidCity to understand what true cocktail craftsmanship is - I walked away with a negative impression--not only for myself, but for the friend I had hoped to impress. Excellent dining evening while visiting downtown Cincinnati! Booked an early dinner @6PM. We were able to walk to the restaurant (2 blocks) from the Hilton Netherland hotel. Great service, pretty view, beautiful historic building! Clean restrooms, but there's a broken down cabinet in one of the restrooms that needs to go LOL. All of the food was good - shrimp with scallions & sweet chili sauce appetizer and a pear goat cheese salad. Four of us recently dined there, and we left half of what we were served on our plates, including three orders of fries that were too salty to eat. I was visiting Cincinnati for a conference and stopped in here for the view and a good dinner. When I first walked in the hostess was amazing so if I could give her 5 stars I would. I was set down promptly and my server came over and asked me what I wanted to drink, and then she barely came back to the table. I had to stop her to do appetizer and then she didn't come back to the table, but proceeded to go to the table next to me and then I had to track her down to come back to actually take my order. I ordered the fried green tomatoes and I just ordered a Caesar salad. The fried green tomatoes were absolutely disgusting. It had grapes on the fried green tomatoes, which I didn't understand. Disclaimer: My phone didn't eat first this time--I was too eager and devoured my meal right away! I started with the fried green tomatoes, which were fantastic. For the main course, I ordered the filet, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything came out exactly as ordered, including the side of mac and cheese and Brussels sprouts. The filet was served with asparagus, all perfectly prepared. The portion sizes of the sides were generous, so I'd recommend sharing them; I couldn't finish them on my own. The atmosphere was inviting and fun, with the option to hang out outside in comfy seating, perfect for enjoying an appetizer or meal while taking in the view.
