As most of you already know, Camille's is a Providence institution. Only the best for the guests no matter what...even a cheater tray (my buddy left his readers at work). The food was exquisite and the service impeccable. The cadence of the presentation was timed perfectly and there was nothing missing. Can't get much better than this! Mixed experiences with Camilies, another Providence location that seems to judge parties based on their ages. I work next door and walked in for lunch recently and was treated as if I had interrupted a secret club meeting. Staff put me in a corner and ignored me, very uncomfortable experience. In all fairness, I'm in a brooks brothers suit, so it's no like I look homeless or something... not sure what's up lately with the more established Providence restaurants treating millennials so poorly, but really hope this behavior stops. read more

Great Italian food in Providence! I've been here twice now, but my most recent visit last weekend warranted a review. We came for an early dinner after the Friars game on a rainy night, so the restaurant wasn't very full which was nice. We started with the salami and cheese board. I wasn't very impressed with the cheeses, but the meats, olives and honey jam were absolutely delicious. We also shared a Caesar salad which was great as well. A little heavy on the dressing for me, but it tasted great so I didn't really mind the extra calories lol. For my entree I ordered the prosciutto wrapped haddock special with parmesan risotto. WOW. What an amazing dish! The fish was cooked perfectly and the risotto was beyond flavorful. It was a massive portion which allowed me to take leftovers home. The veal parmesan was bigger than the plate it was served on. Thin and crispy, not greasy at all. The pasta it came with was perfectly al dente. I somehow had room for dessert afterwards and ordered the ricotta cheese cake. You must get this when you come here! The theme here at Camille's is apparently large portions because we got a huge slice of cake. I tried to eat most of it but I had to tap out at the end as my stomach was protesting no more food. This is a fantastic old school Italian restaurant located in Federal hill. You won't be disappointed with the food or service here. read more

I would really like to give this place more stars, but unfortunately some of the staff and location ruined it. First time at Camille's, didn't realize where it was located so used my GPS. Camille's is located on a tiny two-way street crowded with parked cars so only one car can make it down at a time. The website indicated that they had valet parking available comma but when we pulled up no one was there and there were cars behind us so we were forced to drive around the block again...then again...then again. I finally ended up calling to make sure that valet was actually available, whoever answered the phone was very rude. He basically told us to block traffic and someone would eventually come to us. When we finally made it into the restaurant, we were seated immediately. Decor was nice, food fantastic service was 10 out of 10. Tomato and burrata cheese appetizer, filet mignon, salmon with a blue crab sauce, two glasses of wine, two martinis and two glasses of champagne was just over $200 with 20% tip for 2 people. It was all delicious, so well worth the cost When we left at the restaurant, it took a good 10 minutes to get our car, the valet left it in the middle of the street and we were being screamed at by people trying to drive by. Valet was free, but of course I wanted to tip the driver but only had a $20 bill on me. He didn't want to make change? Great dinner!! I had a dinner here with a large group in an event room. The space was fantastic for a large group and the waiters were all superb. We all had set menus that consisted of: a choice of house salad or caesar, an entree (salmon, steak, pasta), and a rich chocolate cake. I ordered the house salad, which was very delightful and the salmon. The salmon was placed in top of mashed potatoes and served with broccoli. It was very hearty and the flavor was as expected. Went here on Valentine's day one year, had a other patron and his date or wife whatever, say chinks eat dogs to my wife, and harass her while she was there. Thing is she's not even Asian and she's half white and born and raised here, But I guess because she had features that made her look that way to them, either way , disgusting behavior. Was visiting from Boston and didn't know which Italian restaurante to choose from 'On the Hill'. Camille's is old school Federal Hill, older clientele, AWESOME classic Italian food. Very extensive menu, very accommodating and friendly staff. Prices are perfect - a real value for delicious food, good service, perfect portion size and more. I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca with a half order of Linguine Clam Sauce. I was also able to get a very good half bottle of Chianti that was perfect. My only ding is that their wines by the glass selection is very limited to so-so house wines. I sat at the bar which was dark, in need of an update and noisy only because there were four loud customers in there at the same time. The bartender (don't know her name) was very attentive, answered all my questions and even got the advice of some waiters passing through. Excellent Italian food. This place is definitely fancy, I went in jeans and felt a tad under dressed as I didn't realize it would be so old school. The decor is also kind of old school, not my fave as I felt it could be updated a tad. No worries though cause the food is OUTSTANDING. I started with a Caesar salad which was quality, good dressing and croutons. For dinner I was craving a giant bowl of pasta so I got the bolognese with rigatoni. The pasta was delicious! I also had some of my friend's penne with meatballs. It was heavenly. I could eat those meatballs every. single. day. of my life. The people I went with had dessert and loved it. Lack of flavor is insane and insulting! Okay so we were expecting really authentic Italian food. We ordered a dish that was practically like veal marsala with mushrooms and shrimp fra diabolo. The service was great at the bar and valet men were excellent and ambience was nice especially the music. My problem is with the food. The veal tasted good with fresh mushrooms, a vegetable melody and mash potatoes... the mash potatoes were very questionable for being BOXED MASHPOTATOES.....it lacked flavor and texture was off. The fra Diabolo was OK it could have been spicier, shrimp tasted like they were thrown on top at the end (no flavor to them). The PASTA WAS NOT FRESH! We make fresh pasta. And this pasta was either boxed or made like a long time ago. For an expensive authentic restraunt you would expect fresh pasta and homemade mash potatoes. Don't pull that yucky fake mash potatoes over my eyes... it won't work! read more

I was most impressed with the servers. They have been there for years developing their skills to serve u to the best of their ability and it shows. Every server is paying attention to each customer and act in the most up class professional way. The food served was all excellent. I was at a party so I got to see many things enter the room and only complements were spoken . My only thing I disliked is the DJ that is brought in at night. A place like that shouldn't need it , it lessens who they are as an upscale establishment . 5 star for food and service but 4 star over all due to trying to be a club after 9pm read more

Went here for restaurant week and had a decent dinner. Service was EXCELLENT, however food was just okay. I had burrata ceviche, boar Bolognese, and tiramisu. I wish the restaurant week menu had a little more variety as I would have loved to tried one of the seafood options other than sole. Outside patio was nice and shaded for the hot summer! Short Story: This place is $$$$ not $$. Simply put, it's probably the most expensive Italian food in Providence. The food ranged from ok to exceptional and was complemented by incredibly attentive and professional service. For me this was 3.5 stars but I rounded down for few reasons in the Long Story below. I'm glad I tried Camille's, but I probably won't push to go back unless someone convinces me to return. I recommend trying Camille's if you're looking for a high end Italian spot in Providence. Long Story: Originally I wanted to try Siena again since I had an average experience there the last time, but there were no reservations available at a decent time. Jumped on Yelp and saw Camille's had excellent reviews and $$ (learned from now on to confirm pricing by checking out the restaurant's menu online before assuming that the first person to review a place isn't an idiot. The best part is that even if I had checked the prices online, those were not accurate based on what I was charged). You see where this is going. Get there, walk in, think to myself this is pretty nice place - open a menu and realize - Shit, this is going to be pricey. Not a problem - just had to get into the expensive dinner mindset and choose a plan of attack. Finally settled on Scampi alla Santiago ($22), Tagliatelle al Bolognese($29), Merluzzo special (black cod) ($45) and the Veal Saltimbocca ($30). Scampi was exceptional. I haven't had shrimp wrapped in prosciutto perfectly executed like that. The Sambuca glaze was incredible. Thought the spinach salad was a weak compliment to the Shrimp, but would highly recommend getting this app. The Tagliatelle al Bolognese had perfectly cooked Tagliatelle but a bland Bolognese sauce - not much else to say here. I don't recommend it. The Merluzzo was incredible. First - I highly recommend getting anything on the menu that has their mashed potatoes (quote of the night, "the mashed taste better than fries when I'm high). Not sure how else to put it, but the mashed are amazing. The Black Cod was done in an understated butter sauce that seemed to have a hint of truffle. The Cod was perfectly cooked and the highlight of the meal. The Veal Saltimbocca sucked - not really interested in trying to pretty that explanation up, but for $30, I should have sent the veal back. I was impressed however with the side dish of Capellini in a simple but really fresh basil infused marinara (I think) - had one of those ah-ha moments when I realized really good pasta sauce doesn't need to be complex or fancy. So the food was a mixed bag. The service however was not. George, our server, along with his supporting cast were all top notch and were comparable to most high-end fine dining I've been to (outside of NYC). George did recommend the Vitella alla San Marino over the Saltimbocca and I should have taken that reco in hindsight. If you have a special event and want to go out for a high-end Italian dinner, this might be the spot if you order correctly. read more

New years eve.. very prompt service with reservations. Wonderful waiter very accommodating. I have to say the food was nearly fair. My dinner partner enjoyed the filet mignon very much. I found the two shrimp appetizers to be less than appealing. The shrimp Santiago was sweet it was cold and it actually lacked other flavor. I had the lobster Diablo. It was totally put together wrong. The lobster was definitely not the star of the dish. It was overly spiced with red pepper. And I wasn't offered the option of light medium or heavy on the pepper. The pasta sauce was very heavy it was nearly a paste and extremely overpowered the lobster. Second it was made with a heavy linguine which again overpowered the lobster. I've made this many times with a light buttery lemon sauce with cherry tomatoes. Which absolutely do not overpower the lobster I was disappointed. read more

Unbelievably Amazing! I still can't believe that we found this place by luck! I was looking for a fine dining restaurant for my getaway Saturday dinner, and I found this restaurant available on Open Table. I didn't really have time to read the reviews and just felt like to give it a try. With that said, we arrived at 8:30pm on Saturday night; valet parking made it easier for us to arrive on time. We made a reservation, but still needed to wait for about 15 minutes because there were people waiting to be seated before us. The host acknowledged the fact that we were waiting and gave us complimentary drinks. The experience was just beyond what I can describe. Their service was so great, and you can tell when the servers all greet the regulars by name and give them a kiss on the cheek, I feel like they care a lot for the customers. I ordered the Seared Scallops over Prosciutto, and my bf ordered the Groupers that was one of the specials of the night. We cannot possibly ask for a better dinner. Sea scallops and groupers were cooked perfectly; both were fresh and flavored, but didn't overwhelm the natural taste. The sauce was a complement to the seafood. Bf was not a big fish person, and I was kinda worried that the grouper would come with bones, but it was a fillet that he actually enjoyed a lot. We had a great evening. It was a great place to have a romantic date because they surely made our night better than we expected. Bf actually suggested to come back here once a year to make it an annual thing. We were struggling whether to dress up or not for this restaurant, and turns out it was the right choice to dress at least business casual. read more

Went to Camille's right after Thanksgiving while on a visit to see Phish. Did a lot of research online before booking reservations, was not disappointed by my choice at all. My wife and I had grilled octopus to start, our server London brought on individual plates out of courtesy which was unexpected and appreciated. Entree's were generous and delicious with leftovers to spare. Drinks were well crafted and reasonably priced. We travel a few times a year and search out great spots all over the country, as of right now London had the best service for us in about a decade. He was attentive, knowledgeable and sincere. Arugula salad 3. Baked oysters 4. Baked oysters AGAIN 5. Lasagna 6. Shrimp scampi linguini (spicy red sauce) 7. Soft shell crab We were thrilled with every bite. The baked oysters... I cannot say enough, were truly among the finest foods I have ever had in my life. The host was really a cool cat. The crowd were sweet, slightly older in the dining room. But we found them ready dinner soul mates. Several congratulated my pregnant friend on their way out, others said happy birthday to me and my friend who happen to have birthdays around this time of year. It was a crowd equal to the clear mission and values of the restaurant, gracious hospitality and damn fine flavor. Bottom line: if you have a special celebration, call the host at Camille's and book the first available table. If you simply want a damn good meal, go quickly to this charming institution, which should be on the RI state list of landmarks. An excellent evening start to finish. We had a family friend come in for the weekend who wanted "old school Italian." Since Camille's was founded in 1914 with excellent Yelp reviews, this was an easy choice. We honestly got the best service we have EVER gotten at a Providence restaurant. The Maitre'd (Michael) was incredibly polite on the phone when I called to say we'd be 10 minutes late for our reservation. The staff (Andrew was our incredibly nice waiter) was quick to greet us, grab our coats, and the Maitre'd himself took us to our table. The ambiance was very classy- lots of dark colors, prints, heavy decorations. You would be wise to dress a little nicer than jeans- several ladies there were in dresses and many of the men had blazers on. The menu does encompass a wide variety of palates. We spent a long time debating our options. In the end, our friend got the veal, I got the baked scallops with crab, and my husband got the classic orecchiette with sausage and broccoli rabe. As we shared the entrees we could all agree that these were GREAT. The veal was amazingly tender and flavorful. My scallops were perfectly cooked, sweet, and the seasoning was a bit heavy but very VERY good. My husband's pasta was incredibly fresh and well cooked. We split the calamari (very good) and burrata (very fresh, a little underseasoned by my palate, but overall still very good). The wine list was extensive- there were many options that hit most palates and budgets. For dessert we shared the tiramisu. The mascarpone was nice, a little on the thick side, but still delicate and tasty. Overall, this was one of the nicest evenings we've had in a while. My boyfriend and I went to Camille's for lunch the other day. The restaurant is gorgeous, and unexpectedly upscale for its location. So unexpected, in fact, that I found myself feeling incredibly under-dressed in shorts and a hooded tunic. Maybe some of my discomfort had to do with the luke-warm reception from hostess at the front of the house, who was dressed to the nines. I think if she had smiled it would have cracked her face. We were told to sit anywhere we were comfortable, and we chose the patio. It's a very classy setting, with tall shrubs and hydrangeas around the perimeter. Bench seating along the edge of the patio, with umbrella'd tables and chairs. We felt much more relaxed out there, with a boisterous group of older Italian men who were obviously regulars. I will say that the tables were a little low for the bench seating, although the benches were comfortable. We received a much warmer welcome from the bartender, who also acted as our server out there. She was sweet, smiley, and efficient. Our Stellas were well tended-to, and we didn't feel forgotten despite the fact that the group at the bar kept her on her toes. She brought out bread, a pitcher of olive oil, a bowl of red pepper flakes and a bowl of Parmesan. Either they throw out a lot of extra pepper, cheese, and oil, or they reuse the condiments. Neither prospect excites me. The bread, I have to say, was delicious, especially with the addition of the aforementioned accompaniments. My boyfriend had the chicken Marsala with a side of rigatoni ($2 more for the rigatoni over the other pasta choices) that came with a nice rustic tomato sauce. The former didn't last long, and by the time he got to the pasta, I think he realized his eyes were bigger than his stomach. I had the gnocchi, which is one of my favorites when it's done correctly. Unfortunately, while the flavor of the dish was delicious, with a simple Sorrentina sauce (it looked beautiful, too, with a nice stem of basil as a garnish), the gnocchi was chewy and dense. They could learn a thing or two from Andino's. As far as price is concerned, I didn't think anything was too out there. Though while $10 is quite reasonable for a nice dish of gnocchi, I would have expected them to get the texture right. My boyfriend said everything he had was tasty. While I didn't sample his Marsala, I will say the rigatoni was okay, but it didn't blow me out of the water. And I thought the $2 up-charge was rather ridiculous. All-in-all, I have mixed feelings about Camille's. So three stars. For now. read more

Went there for lunch while we were in Providence for a conference...what a great deal!! Phenomenal homemade gnocchi, light and fluffy like nana used to make them, but the sauce here was even better (very fresh, a bit creamy with lots of fresh basil....mmmm...sorry nana!!) My husband had the fried smelt appetizer (I am not a big fish fan, but tried them anyway....not bad...but I couldn't get over the thought of eating the WHOLE fish - minus the head). He LOVED them! The waiter, Anthony, was quite personable. Turns out we he had a Buffalo connection with one of our local pizza joints and talked about that for a while. This place is pretty great. Came here with a large group of about 20 and they were easily able to accommodate us both with seating and with service. Luckily, our group was friendly and we may or may not have passed a few dishes around to try them. I wish I knew what the girl across from me ordered (may have been the Zuppe di Pesce) because it was nothing short of a giant trough of pasta and seafood. We're talking, the bowl was the size of a sink... no exaggeration whatsoever. That seemed to be the theme with quite a few items on the menu, including one of the desserts someone got which came in a giant glass with chocolate cake and ice cream. For appetizers, I tried Calamari Fritte (for the first time) and it was delicious. I hate seafood, and may never be able to eat calamari anywhere else, but it was just delicious. Also tried the Mozzarella en Carozza which was very good. For dinner I got to try the seafood dish above, plus the Roasted Rack of Lamb (delish) and a ravioli dish with chicken. All was very good. Federal Hill, the Italian capital of a distinctly Italo-American city, has in recent years been overtaken by a variety of new ethnic cuisines. In a stark departure from the Atwells Avenue of yesteryear, today you'll find a Middle Eastern hookah lounge, a Japanese sushi restaurant or a Chinese food option on almost every corner. And in true RI form, for every individual who finds this type of variety a good thing, there is a purist who laments the good old days, when this neighborhood was strictly a Roman Empire. Vestiges of the "old" Federal Hill will arguably always hold their own here, even amid all the changes taking place. Camille's is among these venerable stalwarts. Situated at the entrance to the Hill, it's a literal and figurative introduction to the culture and style that has long defined this neighborhood. Tucked away a few yards off Atwells, it appears you're entering someone's home; that is, until you open the door and enter a restaurant whose very design is an ode to all things Italianissimo. Leopard print carpeting; dark red sheers; sprays of vivacious flowers; a grand marble table for large groups; and low lighting. Service is accommodating, professional, and knowledgeable. A couple of years ago, Camille's "cleaned house," and today boasts an entirely new staff, including its chef. Since then, I have visited a couple of times for dinner and each time I've had a meal that is delicious, abundant, and richly indulgent. Though it's been nearly two years since my first of those dinners, I can still recall that Valentine's Day entrée: a mouthwatering Chilean sea bass. And again, just last weekend, I returned as part of a group of six friends. Our waiter, Damon, carefully apportioned a single calamari appetizer on six individual plates for us. I thought this was a very nice touch, as, with a group of this size, one or two people will inevitably miss out on a passed appetizer. This time, I sprang for the pasta Bolognese as my main course: thick pappardelle swimming in a savory, meaty red sauce. It was so good, and I was particularly ravenous. I made the mistake of eating the whole thing - not a morsel remained on the plate at the end of the night. (I even crowned the meal with a large meatball that was part of a side order on the table.) This, along with a few bites of decadent cakes after a walk through DePasquale Square later that night, effectively resulted in a nasty case of carbicide. I struggled as my stomach writhed in pain for the remainder of the evening. What was I thinking, inhaling what was surely a pound of (OMG crave-worthy) white pasta? This was no fault of Camille's, mind you; it was totally a byproduct of my own gluttony. But for anyone with even the mildest gluten intolerance, I issue a sober warning: no matter how good it looks, no matter how amazing it tastes: eat only half. Trust me, Camille's reheats beautifully--as proven by my more restrained better half, as he dug into a heaping plate of veal parmesan the following night while I nibbled on watermelon and fat free cheese. I'm a bit embarassed to admit that my last visit was plagued by a stomach virus that made food consumption nearly impossible. Why we didn't just reschedule our date night I'll never know, but I was adament that we were going to make it through our anniversary dinner if it was the last thing I did. Maybe the alcohol order wasn't ideal to place, but who can resist such an extensive drink menu? Maybe it was the leopard carpet that had me feeling all exotic, but I ordered something new and proceeded to snack on their delicious bread. The calamari? Bomb-diggity. I love me some calamari (order it from EVERY SINGLE RESTAURANT MENU I CAN FIND IT ON) and ate half the plate on my own. Second mistake. By the time our main entrees came (two filet mignons, cooked to perfection thank you very much) I was nearly bent over double from the pain. What exactly was wrong with me I still haven't realized, but I was cursing the Gods for ruining my visit to Camille's with the passion of a hundred burning suns. We promptly had our orders wrapped up by a very accommodating server, who brought over the manager to ensure that our visit met our expectations. This is where I really felt bad, because YES your establishment makes me feel alive and like I can eat forever, curses to this horrible plight for ruining the otherwise fabulous experience. This place is always fantastic. Had the snail salad sliced perfectly thin. Seasoned to perfection. The bread was fresh served with olive oil, grated cheese and hot pepper flakes so you can make it just the way you like It. read more

I received another award in March of 2013 there! Amazing food is something that makes all people return to places like this!! Place is so professional from appearance to valet parking!! Great food and great service. Come hungry as the portions are big and you'll want to eat it all. The manager John and our server Carl were excellent, gracious and definitely fun. The calamari was tender, perfectly coated and cooked. The lasagna was a basic meat lasagna done very, very well. A tasty garlic bread surprise came with the pasta. Veal Parmigiana was as big as the plate, tender and delicious. Both the caesar and house salads were well done, fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend Camille's as a Federal Hill must see. read more
