Best calamari in New England. The gnocchi was a generous and filling portion, but honestly not any better than anywhere else on Fed Hill. You're paying for the experience at Camille's more than the quality of the food. It's definitely good food, but it's surrounded by other places with good food that aren't as expensive. That being said, Camille's has arguably the best service on the Hill. Great place to bring a high-value client or first date that you really want to impress. read more

We ordered take out last night - read other reviews and how highly rated / thought of the food was from here. Overall it was ok. The Risotto Primavera didn't have any vegetables, only some parmesan cheese. The Lasagna was on the cool side, and they put the garlic bread in the sauce so by the time we were home (10 mins), it was soggy. My guess is even though we asked for pickup at 7:15 pm they had it prepared well prior to that time frame and it sat until we arrived. For us - there are better restaurants on Federal Hill. I always forget that I get disappointed when I come here and try this place. This might be the last time. Sat at the bar. Bartender was less than friendly and even less attentive. Had the octopus which tasted pls and rubbery. I've had much better at Opa and Kleos. Had the filet which was $45-$50 i think, which is ok for a good filet, but not for this filet. It was totally bland and a bit overcooked. I ordered a topping for it which came cold and hard in a little side dish. My date got the meatballs, which I admit were really good. This was our first visit in years and our sixth excursion out since RI entered Phase 2 or our virus plan. We are still not comfortable eating inside. A few negatives To begin with. We could only enter the outside dining area through the restaurant. Two Maitre'd types had no mask at all. Our waiter pulled his mask on upon approaching our table but it slipped off and he never put it back on. One could not access the restrooms without squeezing past and touching bar patrons. I regret not mentioning anything while I was there. Food wise our meals were excellent. Before dinner we shared a Buratta and Tomato Salad. That was excellent. I don't really know the difference but Buratta does seem better than Mozzerella. I had Chicken Saltimboca, served a different way. It was a chicken breast stuffed with cheese, Prociutte, spices as opposed to slices of everything. The sauce was wonderful. My wife had Chicken Francaise, a little thicker than the usual but incredibly tender and that sauce was great too. Hers may have been better than mine. Both meals came with Fingerlings and Spinach but we opted for Rigatoni in "House Gravy". That's red spaghetti sauce to Non Rhode Islanders. We had seen an enormous cheesecake go by and had to share one. I ordered a "Nutty Irishman" forgetting there may be different incarnations of that drink, especially at an Italian Restaurant. They repaired the drink and it was a good night cap. We found eating outside to be quite pleasant but not the elegant experience Camille's is remembered for. I wore shorts, something I never would have done in the past, so I shouldn't complain but there were people in T shirts. Times have changed. Almost neglected the wine. List quite extensive, by glass and bottle. Prices really quite fair for the selection, 9.00 to 18.00 a glass. Anyplace that has Willamette Valley OR wine by the glass has to be good. So, short version, food great, Wine list excellent, service prompt, outside area could she some spiffing up and adherence to Virus protocols needs some work. I'd go back for the food but probably not until we can go out without taking our lives in our hands. read more

The service was amazing: waiter was perfect, the hosts were professional, and the valet super friendly. The atmosphere is beautiful. Everyone looks good in the subdued, golden-esque lighting. The food is what gives it one star. I ordered the halibut on lobster risotto special. For a $62 dish, I got bland, overcooked fish on a tasteless paste of mashy risotto mixed with peas reminiscent of dented can. After the first few bites, i thought I'd surely have Covid, but no, it was that I had just been swindled by a wonderful sales pitch on the dish. I would not dare ruin the evening by returning the meal, instead using the opportunity to turn it into a joke. At least the table had a good laugh. I feel resentful that I had to give money and time to a place that had me reaching for the salt and pepper. It was just so unbelivably bad! Where to begin with Camille's hmm... let's start off with the fact that I made a reservation here thinking it was Joe Marzilli's Old Canteen, so when I showed up and saw that Camille's was actually behind the Old Canteen one begins to question their sanity and when they notice Camille's is four dollar signs they begin to sweat, but I digress. Camille's is a perfect place to take a date, if you're trying to impress them. I'm just kidding, but it is pretty fancy, well fancy for me anyways. I walked in and immediately thought..was I supposed to wear a tie. I mean the hostess called me Sir, and I still consider myself a kid, so after hearing that I assumed this place must be fancy. There was a live band playing near the bar, and they have seating upstairs and downstairs. We got to sit downstairs near the fire place, which was very nice. The waiter came around and asked me, "Would you like your water still, or sparkling?". My first reaction was, "Umm... Tap?", but it was time to be a grown up so I told him, "I'll take the sparkling please". Yeah I felt like a boss. The complimentary bread with the dipping oils are dope! Also, the calamari appetizer is to die for...literally I would put my life to the test just to have it again because they were delicious. I look for my calamari to be lightly fried and more towards the just cooked side and they did it too perfection. The next thing I noticed was everyone was drinking wine....I hate wine. I had it once in college and let's say it didn't end well so I asked for another drink menu right away. The drinks on the menu were awesome! They have specialty seasonal drinks that all seemed great. I got this cucumber gin drink, which was mostly just gin, but who can complain. The food portions were very large as well. I got the veal parmesan which was bigger than my head. It was huge and covered in so much mozzarella and red sauce and also served with a side of pasta. I didn't even come close to finishing it, and I tried very very hard. My girlfriend got this seafood medley pasta with a white wine sauce, which I had to sneak a bite and then wished I had got that dish because it was so good! The service was great, the ambience made me feel like I was supposed to have my pinky up the whole night, and when the check came I thought to myself....Is this the wrong check? When I visited the East Coast last year, I was planning out our girls night and wanted a nice fancy restaurant for us girls to enjoy and to treat ourselves. I made reservations at Camille's Restaurant which went smoothly and easily. When we arrived to the restaurant they promptly seated us at our table. I have to say that I really enjoyed our server who gave us lots of tips on which meal or specials we should get. He took the time to explain the ingredients in each dish. I ended up ordering the citrus chilean sea bass (I am a big sea bass fan!) with lobster mash potatoes and sauteed rabe. In my opinion I thought it was good, but it could of been better such as adding more flavor to it. And I absolutely love the decor of this restaurant! Very very elegant! Once we were leaving the restaurant, we needed directions to head over to our next destination and we asked the valet guy/doorman who was very patient and considerate about us. I've mostly come here for business reasons because it's a safe bet and can accommodate larger parties. Camille the lady was my great aunt and she passed away about a year ago at the age of 102. Needless to say I know a lot about this place because I basically grew up there. In fact my dad tended bar for over twenty years. The story goes that he went in to say hi to Aunt Camille while he was in college, most likely looking to get a fee dinner, and she was down a bar tender and she told my dad to put on an apron and get behind the bar. He worked Friday nights for twenty years because he loved meeting people. Prior to my aunt selling the establishment about ten years age it was very much the old school Italian restaurant. Booths lined the main dinning room for privacy and the bar was small and intimate. Since then it has been remolded and had somewhat of a new look to it but it still is a beautiful room. The food is great and the service is world class. I always take my out of town guest there because it brings so many great memories back. What was great when I was a kid is the my Aunt and Uncle Jack didn't want there staff to work on Sunday so it was always closed. They owned a wonderful home on the water in Bristol and every Sunday they guest who would stop in to eat the left overs from Camille's and meet many of the famous guest. They included a lot of the entertainers that use to play at the Warwick Tent. I didn't pay much attention to them because we were always playing and getting in trouble. I miss you Aunt Camille and Uncle Jack so many nice memories. read more

The high: outdoor patio is quiet and secluded. Service was attentive. (Would not have wanted to dine inside where it was very dark.) The low: We tried to order a $36 bottle of wine and somehow ended up with a $55 bottle. And beware the prices of the specials which the waiter does not quote! We ordered two, and they were more expensive than most of what's on the menu--one of them was $45 and it wasn't even good: white salmon with a flood of goopy yellow gravy. One of my favorite restaurants on Federal Hill (fine Italian food district if you're not from providence). I like this restaurant a lot because it offers a wide variety of dishes as opposed to some of the other restaurants that offer only super traditional Italian dishes. They also have really great specials every time you come in. I had the veal porterhouse special, and it was excellent! Definitely recommend coming here. Service is excellent. Woooooooooow, Camille's was amazing. We got there for an 8:30 reservation and the table wasn't ready because people were still at that table. Annoying, but what can you do? The four of us sidled over to the bar. We got a bit annoyed (though I guess I was the most out of anyone) and waited about 40 minutes! "This is unacceptable!" I thought. "No way can I give more than four stars already!" I thought tool-ishly. But I was wrong. Despite slight tackiness (leopard print carpet?!), the dining area is well decorated, warm, and inviting. The service here is well above average. The young man pouring us water introduced himself. Then the waiter did...I forgot his name! But he was amazing and so helpful the entire time. He knew a ton about the menu and was very accommodating for allergies and such. He struck the right balance of attentive and hands-off and was overall super friendly and helped make us feel welcome. Our appetizers were outstanding. The arancini were fabulous, and the antipasti plate was excellent as well, though I skipped the cheese. We split some gnocchi four ways - what a big portion it would've been otherwise! - and it was delicious and a perfect consistency. My sister and I both got zuppe de pesce. It wasn't really a soup, since there was little broth. There was also penne - though it seemed very from-the-box. Luckily, everything else in the dish was beyond amazing. I described it to my friends as a Bacchanalian orgy of seafood, and I have no idea how else to describe it. The scallops, mussels, clams, shrimp, boiled calamari, and lobster were so fresh and delicious. I think the scallops were some of the freshest I've had ever. I don't want to say they tasted like the ocean, because they were delicious and not salty or anything, but you could tell how fresh they were! This was true for the rest of the seafood too, and it really elevated the dish. Everyone was raving about his/her order. I'd advise you against getting a cab from them, because they said they ordered one type of taxi. About half an hour later, I called the company and they said that the restaurant had called them and then heard how long it'd be and cancelled. Still, it's hard to get a taxi pretty much anywhere here, so I guess I understand. Anyway, despite those tiny hiccups, the service and food were beyond outstanding. I was so happy to show my siblings and future sibling in law around Providence, and I am thrilled that they had the chance to experience some of the best of Federal Hill too! read more

Truly wonderful. I recommend this to place to everybody, as long as they have a little extra cash to spend. The location is beautiful. It's right on the edge of the jewelry district (apparently, I'm not super familiar with this area), and it's nestled down a little alley. You might even miss it unless you really know where to look. The interior is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. Dime lighting, deep rich reds and wood. I'll post a couple pictures, they'll be more helpful than me talking about it. Service was 10/10. Everyone from the valet to the manager to the wait staff was extremely nice. Very respectful and talkative, extremely friendly. I felt at home here and I came here right from the airport...alone. They do a great job making you feel special :-) The Food was out of this world. Best calamari I've ever had. The smell of it was almost too much...I can't remember the last dish I just sat and smelled. The calamari was cooked perfectly and pairing it with banana peppers gives you that ideal sweet kick. It rocked my world. I followed it up with the lobster casserole...again..blew my mind. The scallions that topped it were the best I've ever had, the cream sauce and the breading in the casserole did not overpower the natural flavors of the lobster or the shrimp, which were, also, seasoned perfectly. I was extremely impressed. I only hope that the rest of my trip is as successful as my visit to Camille's! read more

Another one of the great Italian eatery's on the infamous Federal Hill in Providence! They offer valet parking and are limiting capacity so you're not on top of each other in the restaurant which is a good thing right now! One of my favorites here is their calamari. It is a little more oily than other restaurants, but it is tasty. I'm sure if you wanted it on the dry side they will be more than happy to Accommodate you. It is very tasty though! Dinner specials are always excellent as well as the martinis! My typical go to meal here involves any one of the veal dishes. Don't leave without getting dessert! Enjoy! read more

A friend took us to Camille's this past Saturday...here are my thoughts: Service: Service here is impeccable. The host was unbelievably nice, our server was also on top of everything, at all times. Ambiance: I can't comment on the main dining room but the private room was great for our party of 6. Food: Quantities are insane...they serve so much food! And here is where I think Camille's could stand to do a bit better. -- Crab cakes - just okay. I didn't understand why they were served on black beans, which were very bland and seemed to be an afterthought. -- Pasta with eggplant - this was a hit with both people who ordered it. The sauce was just delicious, I could have eaten it with a spoon. -- Pork chops - I didn't try this but the recipient was happy with it. -- Risotto - I didn't try this either but again the recipient raved about it. Prices: Not a cheap place but sometimes great service is worth paying for. Overall: I would have no problem returning to Camille's on my next visit to Providence. I highly recommend it. read more

So I went here for the first time last night. A Saturday night and made reservations for 5:30, arrived early and was seated right away. We were waited on by Allen who was very nice and engaging. What I really enjoyed about this restaurant is that most of the workers there would acknowledge you while walking by and it made it seem like a very respectful environment. I had the lasagna and it was one of the best I've ever tried. Careful, they seem to be braking the law. I go in and pay cash for a gift certificate. Once the person I give it to goes in for dinner, they refuse to take the gift certificate for any portion of the tip. I'm Sorry... it was paid for with CASH therefore the party I give it to should be able to redeem it for the entire check and gratuity just like paying cash! It is not a promotional gift card sometimes restaurants give as a bonus, it is the actual gift card you purchase. Shame on them... I will be filing a complaint with the attorney general. By the way, nobody makes any mention of this "policy" when you purchase the gift cards. My family and I have spent thousands at this place over the years and not a penny more. Sad. read more

This was one of the nicest restaurants I have been to in Rhode Island. The service was superb. They do have valet as well as coat check. We were with a party of 6 celebrating 3 birthdays. We had a table in the back of the restaurant that was perfectly spaced from other tables, there was no having to hear another tables conversation. Everyone loved the food. I got the special 32oz bone-in ribeye with maple butter, duck fat potatoes and leeks. It was amazing. The butter they topped the steak with was excellent, I could have even used a little more of it. For dessert the birthday people got to pick a free dessert from the extensive dessert menu. I got my go to tiramisu and it was very good. This restaurant is a great for special celebrations as well as a romantic date night, definitely upscale. read more

Went on New Year's Eve and was very excited as the casual elegance factor gave us all a reason to dress up. To start, I was impressed by the stately yet contemporary decor. Service was very friendly and prompt. My Espresso martini was great. But the bread was dry...usually a harbinger for things yet to come but I ignored that and eagerly dove into our apps. Ordered the special (squash flower) which tasted purely of batter but the Calamari was yummy so I still held out hope. Seafood tower came with lobster in the shell, raw oysters and clam, and shrimp cocktail. The lobster was tough and very chewy. Shrimp cocktail was ''mushy" per my sister. Oysters were shucked well but there was no acidic sauce on the side like a mignonette...Instead it came with a brown gravy-like sauce that did nothing to enhance or compliment any flavors of the raw bar items and seemed like a very random and accidental pairing. I dismissed it as a "me" problem, that I was being too picky and expecting too much since the seafood tower was $95. Okay but Then came the entrees and laid before my eyes was the $75 ribeye steak which truly looked like something from Dennys but I held judgment until trying it. Bite after bite I *desperately* searched for any redeeming factor but quickly came to the conclusion that my steak was 1) very likely microwaved based on the absence of any charring of caramelization on the outside 2) not seasoned with a lick of salt or butter 3) definitely comparable to a steak you'd get at Dennys with the exception of the exorbitant price tag (and honestly probably better tasting at Dennys bc at least they'd have the sense to season it with butter and salt and finish it off on the stove top). I cannot emphasize how disappointing the food was. My husband ordered the halibut and the risotto tasted like something I could've made (and I don't cook). My brother-in-law ordered the seafood casserole and found it to be extremely dry and completely lacking in flavor. My sister enjoyed her salmon but it did not knock her socks off. For desserts, the crème brulee was very good but the banana foster crepes were just amateur at best. Nothing elevated about this place except the decor and price. Total bill came to a jaw-dropping $889 which would have been fine if the food was even moderately decent but I considered it all-in-all as just barely edible. After leaving the restaurant I am left searching for answers about a place that has been around to stand the test of time and came very highly recommended. At one point I considered that maybe they were just really busy and slammed on NYEs but we had a 4pm reservation so definitely beat any crowd, plus I am sure they were staffed appropriately given the holiday. Camille's, I am truly at a loss...literally for having just spend nearly a grand for glorified cafeteria food and figuratively having lived through that experience and wondering how an establishment that could service what essentially amounted to dog food could remain open after all these years and be so highly esteemed. First the good - this historic restaurant is very comfortable. On Federal Hill where there are a lot of tight squeezes- you get a large table and plenty of space in this eclectically decorated dining room. I was disappointed in the food. Both of my courses were overwhelmed by so-so sauces. Especially the Ravioli Con Granchio - it was hard to taste anything other than what I considered to be a sub par Lemon butter sauce- the dish was absolutely slathered in it. Ahhh what a great experience from beginning to end!!! People were phenomenal from Mike at the front to the general manager, to our servers. Food was amazing. My husband had the veal parm and it was out of this world. I had the special which was the halibut and risotto. My fish was fresh and and the risotto was wonderful. They have an extensive and delicious wine selection, which for the area of providence, we found the wine menus at other restaurants lacking and sparse. (We are picky wine people) the dessert we had was the banana foster with Nutella. We ate the whole thing which we never do. It was fabulous. I definitely recommend Camille's. It is a great atmosphere with wonderful staff. We will definitely come back here next time we come into town. read more

Snooty waiter? Check. We asked for recommendations. It was restaurant week and the waiter made some nice disdainful comments about the prix fixe menu. Smaller portions, boring menu, blah blah blah. OK, it's my birthday so we just ordered what we wanted. To start, the appetizers were delicious. Eggplant - amazing! Octopus, also very good. Pasta fagioli. Mmm. Great start. This dinner was picking up! We were all in a good mood with good food despite the pompous, disinterested waiter. OK, entrees! Can't wait. Lasagna - boring choice but actually pretty tasty. Gnocchi, not bad. I ordered the Fra Diavolo. Overcooked shrimp. Relatively bland linguine with some red sauce and the flattest jalapeños I've ever had. Where's the oomph? Does the devil (diavolo) bring the heat? Not so much. Jeez, I coulda overcooked shrimp and made this at home without the $35 price tag. OK, saving the worst for last. My poor kid ordered the Scampi with shrimp. Admittedly, I'm not Italian. Maybe Italians have a different idea of scampi. Either way, I'm pretty sure scampi doesn't mean "tasteless" in Italian. He got the overcooked shrimp AND noodles that tasted like they were seasoned with a dash of olive oil and nothing else. We all tasted it and agreed it was terrible. We have literally had better food at Olive Garden - definitely not a knock on them. The question is really where we may have had a more tasteless dish. What a let down. So, thanks Camille's for giving me a disappointment of a birthday dinner and being obnoxious to my family because we had kids (who were better dressed than many of the patrons there). I had a mind to complain to the manager or shortchange the waiter on our usual 20%. It's lucky my wife is so nice. I came here for restaurant week and had a fruit salad for appetizer and wild boar Ragu for my main course. My friend who is vegan ordered a dish on their regular menu and must say it tasted significantly better. This place was recommended by the concierge, and it was good. Friendly, knowledgable service from real Italians. Sophisticatedly dark atmosphere. Marble dining tables. Good food. Good drinks and dancing. We were 10 strong. Reservations honored. Sat at a lovely table which made us want to stretch and relax--formally. Wines ordered with complimentary calamari (hotel coupon). I don't eat rubbery stuff, but their calamari was top notch! Tasted more like onion rings. We also shared oysters, crab cakes, artichichokes, and bread. I had to ask for olive oil and vinegar, and noted the wane taste of the oil, but overall, we enjoyed the first course. We ordered salads over soups. All were delicious! Ceasar, arugula, apple, candied bacon walnut...I can't remember all we had, but everyone enjoyed their salads. The entrees are a bit much to remember: steak, fish, pasta, chicken--it ran the gamut. I think the only person who didn't enjoy their meal was me. : (. I had the rib eye and it just wasn't flavorful. No one should have to salt down a perfectly rared piece of beef. Oh well, I left it on my plate, sated with the first two courses. Seems like everyone else enjoyed their meals. They came out looking like works of art. Wish I could have had dessert. Amazing experience, as always! This is our go to special occasion restaurant. The service is incredible - they always make us feel like both family and royalty! My husband got a steak which was cooked to perfection. I always get the pasta - it's just so good, I can't seem to order anything else even though the specials are always amazing! I also always start with oysters which are consistently fresh and delicious. Be sure to save room for dessert! read more

Went last night for anniversary dinner. Every aspect was amazing . Outstanding service from Jonathon who was knowledgeable and suggestive. Burrata was not on menu but was in house. Fresh and outstanding. Hubby said halibut was tasty,my entree zuppa de pesce was fabulous. Wine menu extensive something for everyone. We sat upstairs and felt safe as Covid 19 policies were in placed. read more
