I live downtown and this was on of the only places. The first few times I went, I was a little underwhelmed but their pricing is reasonable. If you get certain technicians, you'll be okay but there have been times that I have left the salon with cut fingers from nail files etc. wouldn't recommend really. read more

This was honestly THE WORST nail salon I have ever been to.... and I get my nails done almost every two weeks so that's saying something. My mom and I were visiting from a different state and wanted to get our nails done. A lady did my nails and was continuously coughing a bunch of flem up and covering her mouth with her hand then would continue to do my shellac and touch my hands WITHOUT washing, wiping or sanitizing her hands. DISGUSTING!!!! At one point she actually yelled at me for having my hand too stiff. And when I say yelled I mean yelled. My 3 year old niece could have done a better paint job than this lady and that is not a joke. It was freaking horrible. She managed to paint like half my nail, miss all the sides of my nails and not bring the polish all the way down to the tip of my nail. She also got it allllll over my skin. People who get shellac know that when you get it on the skin you quickly have to get alcohol and wipe it off or it will stay on. But she did not. She let it dry on there and I walked out with it all over my skin. She also smudged my nails with the polish brush on almost all my nails and was going to let me walk out like that until I said something. When I asked her to fix them she gave me attitude and told me it's because of my cuticles. Even though I'm an aesthetician and extremely often clip my cuticles.... I was horrified by the end and am extremely embarrassed with how awful they look. My moms manicure was with a REEEEALLY old polish. The super thick, sticky, stringy kind. Her nails smudged 3 hours after the manicure because the polish was so old it wouldn't dry. The man who did her nails also made them extremely thick and uneven and did not paint to the edges and corners of her nails. DO NOT go to this place!!!!!!! It is the worst, most gross experience I've EVER had!!!!!!!! read more

Where to start.. This was a horrible experience! I was the only one in there and the lady acted like I was a burden. She was extremely rude. Next the salon is dirty and I felt super uncomfortable. The fluorescent lights and all black decor was awful. Not relaxing at all. Last of all.. My gel manicure was horrible. She had to re do two of my nails because she messed them up. Top it all off three of my gels were peeling off the NEXT day. I just took them all off there was no way I was going back to have them "fix" it. I took my sisters and some other girls here for my sisters unofficial last girls day/night out before she tied the knot. We took a Tru Limo Lincoln Navigator out so we could sip on some drinks through our day, and Cali nails let us continue the party during our mani-pedis! It was awesome! When I was initially looking for a nail salon every place that wasn't a fancy $$$ spa turned me down because they couldn't accommodate all of us, but Cali took care of us! As soon as we came in we all took our chairs and soaked our feet in a nice warm bath. They have a large selection of shellac gel polish and regular ones too! Everyone found one they liked immediately. My sister went with the french tip for her wedding and it looked great! They had everyone's pedicures going and transitioned to manicures reasonably fast. We all had the massage chairs going while chatting it up. The staff was all nice, it was a bit out of the ordinary for some of the techs to be men in their 20's or early 30's who spoke perfect English, but they do a great job and made for easy conversation! Some of us were stupid and wore skinny jeans and boots but they had us covered with these disposable flip-flops! I was like wuuuuhhh? That's service! Overall, it was a wonderful experience and they seem pretty busy, so I would say making a reservation was a good choice. I have been coming to Cali Nails for several years because it is very convenient to my house. The price is right, the quality is pretty good if you go to one of the more experienced nail techs and I almost always get in without much of a wait. Also, since I am a "regular" they try to take care of me and get me in and out quickly when I need a pedicure over my lunchhour or between meetings. The ownership has changed hands in the past few years so I would disregard any review older than 2011. I frequented the store back then too though and would have never give the salon less than 3 stars. My only complaint would be that the nail tech turn-over is high and some folks are better than others. If you go often enough (like I do) you know who to get. Right now, I would highly recommend Jimmy (the bald guy) - he gives a fabulous gel manicure that looks beautiful and lasts easily for 2+ weeks. He also does a nice job on acrylic nails. Rose, the woman who owns the place, is quite a character but she takes real pride of ownerwship in the salon. She is, however, a bit reckless with the pumice stone (scratches my soft skin) and digging for what she precieves as hang nails. Just ask her to be careful to stick to your callouses - and clip but don't dig - and she will be. She really does aim to please and wants you to come back. I find just being direct with her gets results. read more

They didn't think I understood Vietnamese, so they started speaking to each other and decided turned me away because they just wanted to leave early. Don't put your store hours as closing at 6:30 if you don't plan to. Not coming back ever. read more

UPDATE: After going here for over two years, I am done. I tip well every single time and used to really love the service here. However, I think because I tip so generously, my quality of service decreased dramatically with time. When he does the top coat now, Jimmy barely puts on enough to give it a shine and my nails look like crap in a day. He is very talented and knows what he is doing, so either the salon is trying to save on expenses or he doesn't want a $10 tip for a fill. I'm mad, I've been a loyal customer here for so long and I've been paying for junk. I got my nails done while visiting family on the other side of the US and that reminded me what it's supposed to look like when someone does a thorough top coat. When jimmy did my nails they would start lifting within a week. It's now two whole weeks since I got a fill from another salon and they still look amazing. Don't go here. Seriously the best nail salon I have ever been to!!!! Every time I come I feel welcomed and get the best done with my nails and toes!!! I have tried many others in the valley but none compare to Cali nails. I love the staff, Lyna, Dill and Deana... The owner is lucky to have three great employees and I'm lucky to have found them. This location is super convenient though I have been using another nail salon after a coworker said they did not recommend going here. Today the other salon was closed, I needed my gel nails removed because they were lifting and I knew if I pulled them off myself I risked damaging my nails. I was surprised when I walked in during the lunch hour and this place was empty but for two nail techs and one customer. I asked to have my gel nails removed. A girl came from the back, poured acetone in a bowl and had me soak without first filing the top layer of gel to let the acetone absorb and lift. (I've been getting my nails done long enough to watch the process many times over). She then took out her tool and began to scrape, peel and pull the gel off - this was not a painless process. My nails remained visibly damaged (much worse than the times I've pulled at them myself). When I asked about it she told me that's how they remove all gel nails and that the reason my nails were visibly damaged is because the gel was on too thick. Then she charged me half of what I would normally pay for gel nails. Horrible, horrible experience. There is a reason this salon was empty. My recommendation is to forego the convenient location and go somewhere with better customer service and techs that are not so lazy as to do the procedure correctly. I will not go here again, nor will I ever recommend it (even in an urgent situation) to anyone I know. read more

I stopped by this place before doing any online review. BAD IDEA. I walk in for eyebrows wax, and walked out with both my eyebrows BURNED. To the point my eyebrows was sticking. Yeah my skin had 2st first degree burn. I am not even going to talk about the burning pain. The scare that had left. Once i slept on it, both my eyes swollen and dark red. So i stop by the business to complain and to find out what chemicals they used and if the person who did it for me is certified. The woman i spoke too i am dead sure she is the MANAGER pretending she is not and told me she will let her "manager know". Yes, they got game too. So, i patiently wait for my phone call, nope. Exactly 10 days passed and i stopped by the business again. There was a man there, i am assuming he works there as well, and i spoke to him and he told me the manager is in the back she will speak to me. Then came the same woman who claimed is not the "manager". Not only are they incompetent and unprofessional they LIE too. She actually asked the guy " am i the manager?" really??? So i resorted to reporting it to health inspector. So, i would think twice before i even attempt to go this HELL HOLE. read more

October 22, 2011 - I was looking for a new nail salon and found the cream of the crop. The entire staff was so friendly and my nail tech did an AWESOME job!!! The salon is very clean and has an upbeat atmosphere. I would recommend this salon to everyone.
