I was so disappointed in this nail salon. I opted for a pedicure with a manicure at the same time which at the time felt like a really good idea. But it was NOT. The lady doing my pedicure was rude, didn't talk much but when she did she was definitely talking crap or yelling. The lady doing my manicure was nice, at least she smiled. I thought it was a little unprofessional to lay the wet towels they used on the chair which wasn't very clean then wipe my hands with it. My toes look good it's my fingers that do not. The lady doing my toes got super frustrated when the lady doing my manicure decided not to paint my nails and help another customer. This resulted in a crappy paint job and the paint chipped within hours. To top it all off she said "sit here and don't mess it up" REALLY? Don't talk to me like I'm twelve. No one helped me put my sandals on either and they kicked me out of the chair while my nails were drying to get another customer in the chair. They did not offer me a sear at the drying station, just wanted me out. I am not one to write bad reviews. I utilize yelp to communicate excellent service and product. The only good thing about this place is it is MILES away from me so I won't ever see this nail salon again, ever. read more

I needed a fill and a polish change, nothing too detailed as I was on my lunch break. Anyone who gets acrylic nails knows that if your acrylic is crappy, nothing else will look good. Rose shot my fill straight to hell and did not pass go. My acrylic after she finished was uneven and not even fully covering my nail. I assume her license was obtained from a cracker jack box. This place has a great staff! Most places where I live has a staff that can be rude and speaks their mother tongue in front of their clientele. I don't mind that too much, but I find it to be a huge plus that the staff at Cali Nails speaks to each other in English! Not to mention the amazing massages that come with their manis and pedis!!! Great value, great work, and amazing service from a nail salon in a rather non-descript strip plaza in Phoenix....I am impressed with this place. The absolute WORST manicure I have EVER gotten. I've been getting my nails done for years!! And I have never had such a horrible manicure. I have move around recently and have been looking for a decent salon that's close to my work. I stopped in here, not hoping for a lot but just to get my nails filled I didn't get anything crazy just a fill and gel polish. When I walked in, it felt dirty, the lady who seemed to run the place was sitting at the front door with her shoes off texting. Then she sat me down at a table that looked like she hadn't wiped it down all day long. She literally had no idea what she was doing. I told her I had powder nails currently and told her to do whatever she needed to to take them off. She didn't. She left them on, mind you they were Halloween nails so they were colored black, and when she was using the drill she was barely touching the nail like what normally happens with any other salon. She nicked me with the drill 4 different times and when I said "ow" she just looked at me and kept going. She didn't shape my nails at all they are bulky and chunky and not at all what they should be. The acrylic hardened over my skin and they are absolutely terrible I cannot believe a salon would EVER allow someone to walk out looking like this. This place is DIRTY. Yellow stains all over the floors and baseboards, random tennis shoes all over. I wouldn't even give 1 star if I could. This place is awful. Well, I should say the lady who did my nails is awful. The other woman getting her nails done seemed to like the guy doing her nails. But the lady who did mine was just awful. I went in before work to get a quick gel mani... I didn't think I would be there longer than an hour and a half for that. WRONG. This chick took a full hour and a half simply just to remove my old gel manicure. She was too busy worrying about other things like cleaning up the place than doing my nails. She was RUDE. And the old gel polish she didn't even get off all the way. I was so irritated by the time she got most of the polish off that I told her to put a clear coat on and I was leaving cause I didn't have any more time to give her. So, I went to Calli nails today for the first time. It was on my way home and figured I would try them out of convenience. The place was almost empty, and they got me back almost right away. I brought my own polish supplies (base coat, color and topcoat) but no tools. My manicure came out pretty nice. Now time for the cons 1) A little pricey. They charged $13, other salons in the area charge 10. 2) tools were pulled from the drawer on the right. I couldn't see inside of it, but I noticed a lack of crinkling and he seemed to pull it right out. I would suspect they were tools that are reused. 3) The station was pretty dirty when I arrived. They cleaned it up a little before starting. 4) when I went to go wash my hands, I noted a lot of crust and lime build up in the drains of the Pedi baths. 5) One of the employees just before we started asked my manicurist for a lighter, pulled out a pack of cigarettes from the adjacent station and took one and left. During the service, she dropped the lighter on the towel while he was working and walked away. Not super professional. 6) when we were done, he got a dryer and plugged it in, but forgot to turn it on before moving on to the next client. I had to figure out how to get it working. Overall , it was a good manicure it looked nice. The lack of cleanliness and professionalism would keep me from coming back. read more

Ever since he took over the place has been great and I've had nothing but a great experience there. Everyone is VERY friendly and professional, they make you feel welcomed and the atmosphere is great as well! I've been going to Jimmy "Jimmychu", he's extremely nice and very fun to talk to! Just giving a shout out to Dil for giving good feet, and his brother Jimmy for doing great nails. Have a jumpy foot that no matter how many times I told the person doing a pedicure for me, always ended up with nails not being cut back far enough or nails on that foot not being quite right. Dil is terrific!!! Not to say he doesn't do good fingernails as well, it's just that Jimmy has the magic touch. I've had gel and acrylic's. Both have held up and looked great for the sometimes 4-6 weeks between appointments. read more

I went to this location on a Saturday morning when my husband took the kids for an hour. I rarely take time for a pedi/mani and saw my opportunity. The shop was dirty but I was short on time so I sat down. I closed my eyes after I sat in the pedi chair until the nail tech scrapped my toe nails so hard that she punctured the side of by big toe! It was/is very painful and two hours later, I am still bleeding under the toe. She kept putting an unmarked liquid on the wound and I made her stop so that I could go home and clean it with a safe product. I wish that I would have looked at reviews first. Perhaps the owner of this Vietnamese salon read Jenn's review and decided to make some major improvements. I live just a couple of miles away so this place is convenient for me to go in without an appt. Had I read Jenn's review beforehand I would not have come here/ That being said.................... This is my third time here and each time I have found it to be a nice, clean environment . Each of my 3 visits found the air fresh and free of the usual chemical nail product smell, which really nauseates me and causes my eyes to burn. I had a manicure and pedicure done this last visit and because business has been slow ,due in part to the light rail construction, (and maybe , in part , to Jenn's post), I received both services at the same time. I was in and out in 40 minutes. With the exception of one, very young, and loud tech, the rest of the techs were very nice and seemed to want to make sure I was comfortable. Massage Chairs are pretty comfortable and each chair has two different remotes- one to move the chair back and forth, the 2nd to provide various types of massage. Man - what a massage! the balls (or whatever they use in the chair) felt incredible (these things move up and down your body from neck to lower back and switch off between different types of massage). You can also set it for just one continuous type of massage. The only drawback, and for me, this is a big one, is the music. Apparantly, they put on whatever they want to hear , which is usually not very relaxing. Twice I asked if they would please put something soothing on instead of the techno beat thing they had blaring from the speaker. They obliged me and I received a quiet "Thank You" from the two other customers there. This last visit they had music from their homeland playing which was bearable plus fragrant incense which did help relax me. The price is right - $32 for both a manicure and pedicure (I skipped the sea salt and callous removal options which are extra). Technically, they do a good job and, each time I have been there, they take care to sterilize and clean the instruments, chairs, etc. One interesting note: While talking to a couple of techs, they informed me that many of them were nurses or teachers back in their homeland but because they are still learning to speak english they do not qualify for similar positions here in the States. One tech who was not busy was practicing her English using some type of language CD with her headphones on and a study guide). You go girl! I have been seen within 5 minutes of waiting each time. If someone else has a good recommendation for a nail salon that is a good bargain and is within midtown/downtown phoenix, let me know as I am open to trying new places. RC read more

This is the first time Yelp reviews have let me down. I tried this new location due to the reviews and being 5 mins from my job. I opted for a manicure and shellac. Three days later the shellac cracked and began to peel. I called the salon and they asked I return and have the shellac redone. I did and the following day the shellac was cracking and peeling. This has never happened to me with any shellac or other type of gels. This was a waste of money and especially time!! read more

I wanted to try somewhere close to my work to get a quick fill and pedicure so I tried this place. It is ok but not the best. I had my nails done by a guy there. He was always nice to me but the quality of his work wasn't what I'm used too. I had white tips and my nails lifted in a week. Pedicure was average. I felt like they rushed... Needless to say I only made it there once. After my nails lifted It was easy to take them off myself and go to a better salon. I can see where there business comes from. I've been to Cali a couple times. The first time was fantastic, the second time was terrible. Cali Nails is located in a strip mall on Central next to a Dominos and a liquor store. The first time I went in it was on a Friday during the late afternoon. I wanted to get some acrylics for a event I was going to later in the week. I walked in and Jimmy, the nail tech, was so nice to me. The salon was practically empty so he sat me down and got straight to work. He even asked what kind of music I liked and put on the Pandora station I wanted to listen to. He was a really nice guy to talk to. He even gave me a little flower on my ring fingernail for free. It was one of the nicest experiences at a salon I've had. I went back a few months later. Total disaster. I decided to get acrylics and a pedicure. I made an appointment for a Saturday morning. When I went in it was a complete zoo. All the chairs were taken, it was noisy and chaotic. There wasn't even anyone at the reception desk, someone at one of the manicure stations yelled "Can I help you?" from across the room. I take it that Saturday mornings are pretty busy for nail salons in general, so you think they would have hired enough people to work that day. I found out from one of the employees that wasn't the case. Anyways, they told me that even though I had an appointment it was a 20 minute wait. I knew if I tried to go to a different salon it would be just as packed, so I decided to stay. They got me into a massage chair and the woman who was working on me was very rough on my toes. I get that you want to remove all the dead skin, but at one point my toes started BLEEDING. No way in hell I am sticking my bleeding toes in THAT tub water. That's begging for an infection. After my pedicure and color, I walked over to the manicure station. A different woman doing my manicure seemed like she was in a very bad mood and complained to me about this was supposed to be her day off and she had to come in to work. That was kind of a buzzkill. Then, in the middle of my manicure, some other staff member pulls her aside to go into the back room for some reason. I was left soaking my nails for 10 minutes, sitting in a chair by myself. She came back and apologized, saying they had an "accident." Not a good sign. Later when I told her what color I wanted to paint my nails, a cute light pink, she looked at me as if I was crazy and then said "Whatever." What inconsiderate customer service. I spent 2 hours in that salon, when I easily could have spent 75 minutes. The salon itself is not very high end. It's not totally run down, but it's doesn't have a luxury feel. And for a casual type salon, the prices are a little steep. $45 (including $5 tip) for acrylics, another $30 for the pedicure. The other problem I encountered is that there is no security, something that's sort of necessary when you're in the middle of a major metropolitan city. The second time I got my nails done here a homeless person walked into the salon and started randomly yelling profanities. It wasn't until someone threatened to call the cops that they walked out. It's weird that I had two completely polar opposite experiences, but if you do go to Cali, I would suggest making an appointment with Jimmy any day that's not Saturday. But I would research other nail salons in the area before hand. read more

I had a good experience here and almost didn't try it because of some of the other reviews. They did a really good job and I enjoyed my experience there. It's a really convenient location for me to go to right after work or even on my lunch break. If you are on a break they will try to keep that time crunch in mind and get you out of there ASAP. Prices pretty average. I'd give them 5 stars, but they were a little hesitant about doing designs with the gel. My mani / pedi looked awesome, no complaints and it lasted a really long time. I was visiting Phoenix with my fiance on some business and really wanted a pedicure while he was in a meeting. I found this place on google maps and cautiously walked in. There were two girls sitting there when I came in and no other clients. One spoke English quite well, as I experienced as she loudly talked on her phone my entire pedicure at the desk next to the chair I was directed to sit in. The other, who performed my services (I also had my eyebrows waxed) did not speak English well, but was very nice and nervous when she did. The salon itself was clean, but definitely used. The massage chair was nice and comfortable, but you could definitely tell it had seen better days. The pedicure was nice. I was VERY nervous because all of her tools came out of a caboodle box and went back into the same box...no sanitizing solution. I was certain I was going to get an infection but couldn't get the English-speaking girl off the phone long enough to say anything, and I knew my pedicurist would not understand me. I had the callous scrubber done, and it was with a tool I'd never seen before...looked like a large lemon zester. Seemed to work okay, but didn't work as well or last as long as others have in the past. No pumice stone either. The massage and scrub were nice, but the entire time, the girl was focused elsewhere. Not sure if it was just because we had nothing to talk about or that something else was on her mind. My toes turned out WONDERFUL. She even painted little flowers on them for me. 2 weeks later and they still look fabulous. No chipping, breaking, or messes yet. No infections either. No bleeding like others have complained about. No toe-dividers though, so I had to be especially careful. The waxing was fine. Again with the same girl, so no communication. Their waxing room is in a closet in the back. The table is covered with the same towel from person to person. My eyebrows turned out nicely, but 2 weeks later and I still am slightly broken out with reddened bumps across my forehead. I might just be used to my normal girl's solutions at home, but not after 2 weeks. All in all, I paid like $40. Not too shabby. I'd go back again if I were in the area, but I wouldn't make a special trip. read more

Had been going to Cali Nails and quit going for a number of reasons, but gave it another try because it is one of theonly places for nails in Central Phoenix with more than one tech on duty. Much to my surprise it is under new management although still owned by Rose. Jimmy is first rate, and really does stellar work, including 3_D nails. Bald Jimmy does nail art that looks exactly like the stickers but actually stays on. They can duplicate most anything you find on the internet. Really sharp stuff. They don't upsell or overcharge, or $5 you to death. Love being able to come back to the shop with the new fresh makeover as well. Well done! read more

Beware the waxing! Was here with a friend whose skin never gets red or puffy or irritated after waxing so not only did the woman wax an area triple the size we had showed her but we agreed on a price prior to waxing and then she more than doubled it at checkout. She kept waxing the same place causing irritation and swelling and wasn't listening when we literally said 'stop, stop there's no hair there.' The redness was still apparent the next day which has never happened at the other million nail places we've both been waxed at. I felt compelled to write this review because improper waxing can cause swelling and blemishes for days, it was a bummer because the place is close to where I live and I'm new in town. read more
