Great to back to the neighborhood coffee joint. I haven't been back here for almost 2 decades. It's such a lovely, peaceful place where you hangout with your friends or come for work or read a good book. They have seating inside and outside. There are art works hung on the walls (they do change it periodically). Also there books case that you borrow or add on. There is a bus stop right outside the entrance. The staff here are wonderfully nice and so friendly and helpful. They also have bakery goods for you to snack on. They're very dog (animal) friendly, they do have treat for them too. I got a nice breakfast with my mom here this morning. The barista didn't bat an eye when we asked a million questions. The baked items were tough to decide between! I got the autumnal special latte, the gingerbread witch. Loved it! Not too sweet and incredibly smooth. My mom also loved her chai, which could come with varying levels of spiciness and sweetness. The pumpkin scone was not very sweet, which my mom liked, but I think it needed a little bit of sweetness. My cranberry almond cake was nice, but the bites with the cranberry pieces were obviously the best. Definitely set up for a good number of people to work. COVID be damned... I had a grande drip with splash of hazelnut and cream. It is the right kinda strong that I needed this time of the morning, 6:45am. I simply asked for some non diary creamer to add to the two shots I ordered. I had asked for a macchiato as I always do, and have had only the best. That is until the experience today with this bloke. Who was charging me the 2 dollars more for what I usually pay for a espresso macchiato. I'm about to turn 70 years of age. As a "man of a certain age," I often have to urinate. It's a passage of the life cycle, Gail Sheehy and other authors who chronicle the stages of life ignore. On a Tuesday February 11th, in the morning, I strolled into this Caffe Ladro and asked to use the bathroom. I do not look nefarious or destitute, which shouldn't make a difference anyway. The young woman said I would have to spend a minimum of $5.00 to use the bathroom. I have traveled all over the world, to sophisticated cities in Europe, and to unsavory souks of the Middle East and Africa. Never have I been asked to pay to use a toilet. I didn't have anything less than a $20.00. I slammed down the twenty, and this horrible twenty something handed me the key to the bathroom without so much of a look. I was invisible to this - - - -. I will be returning to Seattle to live in about ten days, and I swear, I will do anything in my power to make the city aware of the ageism being practiced by Caffe Lardro. Shame on you! read more

I was at the 15th east location and thought it might be a good place to get some food and some work done. I noticed the temperature dropping so much that I asked one of the 2 baristas working about it. She responded that several customers had asked about the temperature already. She went on to explain that she had the AC running because she was hot. I tried to suck it up, until I checked the temperature. She had the AC on maintaining an interior temp of 62 degrees F!! Way outside most people's comfort level, and she apparently kept it this cold despite many people complaining. Service friendly and helpful. First time getting an iced cortado and it's my new regular drink order. For studying: the wifi is good enough to stream lecture recordings but the tables are a bit awkward to work at. They are small and kind of an awkward height where you can't cross your legs and you're hunching over to write. Definitely more of a grab-and-go coffee place I would say. read more

Part Manhattan Jewish deli, part Montreal meat sandwich this bad boy has a custom pepper slaw/sauce on the base, just spicy enough to leave a kick and a reminder to come back. The Capitol Hill Caffe Ladro on 15th has been my go-to coffee place for the past few years. The baristas are charming and polite, the space is comfortable (when not shut down due to COVID-19), and the vegan oat bars are utterly amazing (as mentioned by other reviewers.) The coffee is quite good, and I'll give a special shout-out to their decaf roast (makes a great Americano.) The corner of 15th Ave E & E Republican provides enjoyable people watching throughout the day, which is a must in a corner cafe. Special mention to Caffe Ladro's COVID-19 precautions. Their commitment to the health & safety of their employees and guests should be a model everywhere, making the cafe one of the few places I've been comfortable hanging out in during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Happy to find a coffee shop other than Starbucks that's open earlier than 6 AM. Tried their honey lavender latte and a standard vanilla latte on two separate occasions of course, not back to back lol. Both were made exceptionally well. The honey to lavender ratio was spot on and it didn't over power the espresso. It was a smooth drink and I enjoyed sipping on it very much. The vanilla latte had the right amount of vanilla in it and enhanced the flavor of the latte. Both drinks has perfectly pulled shots and velvety milk. The Beecher's cheese and bacon scone is yummy too. Bacon, bread, and cheese? That's winning for sure. read more

This rating is solely about the condition of the store. The coffee was good and I tried their house-made lavender syrup. And very importantly my hot beverage was actually nice and hot which was great and rare! However I have to write about the store itself because it was bad. There was barely anyone in there and from my whole ordering to leaving process maybe there were two other parties so maybe 4 people. It was pretty dark so not sure if the lights were off or it's always like that but most noticeably were the huge collection of flies(?) in the middle of the store flying in like a continuous circle. Perhaps they were another bug so I'm not exactly sure and couldn't get a picture but it was quite noticeable. Like I had to swat through them to go from where I ordered to the pick up counter side. I almost didn't want to drink my beverage because of the optics but after swatting through and getting outside, I was able to disconnect and enjoy my beverage. good beverage and pastries but service is at a snails pace. i'm consistently in during the 8-9am hour and they have only one person making drinks while also operating the register, with another stocking the pantry paying no attention to the customers, with a line out the door. i've worked in restaurants & coffee shops my entire life, so it's backwards to me that the management has their staff doing side work when there are people waiting to order. i can't imagine it's much fun for the barista who is getting absolutely torched, either. i hope that management see's this and corrects this issue, so i can delete this bad review & not have to decide between getting coffee or being on time on a consistent basis. read more

I'm leaving this review in hopes ownership sees it. I'm a long-time Ladro fan. Haven't been in the 15th Ave E store in some time - what a depressing experience. Coffee was fine - as always - but the store was filthy...chaotic order of things, and even the pastry case was...well, it was just gross. Zero merchandising is going on (in addition to minimal cleaning) and the staff....it's like they're on opioids. No sense of direction and no engagement whatsoever. The final barista did say something to the order of 'thank you'...so she gets points (note second star).....but this shop needs help, now. It's such an asset for the neighborhood - how about putting some money into this former gem and bringing it back to life. I don't see a single update (or evidence of cleaning) since about 1998. In my mind, when I'm loafing around in a coffee house, this is the kind of place I like. It's smaller than many but because of that maintains an intimate atmosphere without seeming cramped. On a recent morning, I took a cuppa of joe and a vegan muffin to the front window, and watched the world go by, at a snail's pace. I heard the murmur of nearby conversations, the tapping of laptops and the quiet banter of the two baristas. I imagined I could sit there for hours, though I only stayed for 30 minutes. The vegan muffin is house-made, as are the rest of their baked goods. It was very, very good, and didn't have the dry aggression of some vegan baked goods. Caffe Ladro is a roastery in Seattle that has multiple locations serving quality coffee along with baked goods. I was curious to try out their Medici which is basically an orange-flavored mocha. The interesting part about the drink is that the orange flavor is infused to the drink by adding an orange rind to the milk before steaming. The result was a subtle orange-flavored beverage. I was quite surprised at how much flavor a single rind could add. A minor word of advice to Cafe Ladro, you have a following and something unique with the Medici. However, you also have a lot of competition from places creating their artisanal coffee beverages with unique flavors and in-house syrups. It might help to use higher quality ingredients instead of the store-bought Monin syrups. Just my opinion. P.S. Medici drinkers - don't forget there is a rind in your drink. read more

It's funny to read the different reviews of this place and see the different experiences. I've always had pretty good coffee served here, and I just LOVE the cardamom coffee cake. But I find the baristas kind of indifferent. I don't need someone super chipper, but at least make a little eye contact and talk to me if you would like a tip on top of my $3-4 drink. Perhaps I need to start wearing hoodies and get a fauxhawk. Maybe then the hipsters will think I'm one of them and deign to talk to me :-) read more

I don't care what anyone else says, Caffe Ladro on 15th consistently makes the absolute BEST soy latte anywhere on the planet. I'm serious. I count myself lucky that I live so dern close and can get my fix as often as I like. It's enough to make me want to never leave Seattle. With its close proximity to Vivace and Victrola, I think this particular Ladro gets overlooked. But there are many who know the secret. The baristas are friendly most of the time, the interior is inviting in the classic Ladro style and the people watching is good, though these are not Ladro's strong points. Come here if you want the best dern coffee in Seattle. Now I know that many will argue that Vivace is the best, but darn it- they just haven't gotten the soy milk mix down yet. My soy foam is divine at Ladro, and the latte art is always crafted with care. Yummmmm. Makes me want to get out of bed in the morning... even on cold, wet icky winter days. The place is small, cozy and has some Seattle quirky neighborhood feel to it, but it's not pretentious at all. The barista and cashier there always greet me with smiles everytime I walk in. It's also never too crowded so I never have to wait that long. I'm not a sweet-tooth person, so I like that they also carry a selection of both savory and sweet pastries and baked goods. During the warm summer and spring days, it's a good place for people to lounge and hang out in the wooden chairs outside of this cafe, chatting and people watching. During cold, rainy and winter days, though, Caffe Ladro is still a wonderful place to simply get some warmth from your favorite cup of coffee or chai to warm up your body and soul! read more

Advice: Fire the PT unfriendly staff, retool, encourage the grumpy old men to move along. Speak with the city about the growing homeless population and aggressive panhandling living on the sidewalks on 15th, encourage customers to vote for affordable housing.
