I've been coming for 8 years. The culture, coffee, regulars, and atmosphere remain wonderful. Tricia, Alex, and Katie are the best baristas: skilled, super warm and friendly. Make you feel welcome every time. The latest manager (the 6th I've known) is Mark. He's not as social, several times has forgot to run up my order that is identical every day. This place is a dump! Their workers don't seem to find the need to put the trash and compost in their bins in the back, and instead drop the trash on the ground and don't bother to clean it up. I've witnessed this many times walking out the back door, and if this is how they treat their surroundings there is no way I'll trust their coffee and food and will take my business elsewhere. When in Queen Anne and craving a yummy beverage and little snack ... or maybe the quick breakfast treat on the way to work ... you need to stop at Caffe Ladro! You won't be disappointed! They have everything going right for them and all things are safe, sanitized, and properly social distanced. I stopped there on the way home from the grocery store the other day for a surprise treat for my wife and son. Boy, did I hit the jackpot! Got a London Fog for her and a Mocha for myself. As for food, picked up a Vegan Triple Berry Muffin and a Raspberry Scone. Everything was top notch! My wife said it was the BEST London Fog she's ever had (which is saying a lot, as it's one of her favorites and a standard go-to for her); and the muffin was delicious ... you'd never know it was vegan! My mocha and treat were amazing too. Ladro is homey, warm, and cozy. Somewhere (once things open up again), I could imagine spending much time in and feeling all comfortable with a coffee and a pastry! Will certainly be back!! read more

Just had my usual visit to Caffee Ladro Queen Anne today at about 2.00pm. I am wondering what is going on with this location? The guy serving me coffee was passive aggressive again, really annoyed with me (though he got the wrong volume of coffee, not me). Such attitude happens not for the first time. Previously he was lecturing me about making a note in the app to make burrito hot. Was not pleased with me. Though I have the same order every time. I would assume he would remember already. But instead he was upset with me. I remember very nice atmosphere in this coffee shop awhile back. Too bad. I love the taste of this coffee. It is very good. But it is just unpleasant to return back to experience the same. read more

Consistently disappointing these days. For those who don't know, this spot used to be the main spot to be in Queen Anne. My dad used to take me here as a kid to get hot chocolates, and when I got older I'd visit with my friends. And it was always great! The baristas were friendly, the coffee was good. You could stay for hours and do homework. Unfortunately it feels like something has changed, and it's just been getting worse. I've been hassled about not giving a large enough tip, ignored by baristas too busy talking to each other to even acknowledge me, and just feel like the whole vibe is way off these days. It just doesn't feel like they care anymore. Sometimes the coffee will be like I remember it, but often times it's not. It constantly feels like I'm intruding on them, or inconveniencing them just by coming in. Half the time I come in, I'll watch both baristas struggling to put out simple drinks, and getting upset with each other or with customers. Or I'll sit down to try and get some work done and just hear them complain endlessly about every customer that comes through the doors. I used to be excited to stop by Ladro. Pleasant plain coffee shop with good coffee, but extremely disgruntled workers. Barista was friendly and greeted us and made delicious coffee. However, the cashier was extremely rude, first to the gentleman in front of us who was having issues with his card processing. After witnessing how rude he had been to the customer in front of us, we were greeted with the same passive, aggressive and short demeanor. it should've been no surprise the employee that I did not elect to leave a tip at which point he became more disgruntled and made a side comment about not tipping. I asked if I could have a lid for my drink at which point he simply walked away from me and did not respond. I don't know how anybody expects to run a successful business with somebody like this at the forefront of your store. I'd recommend the 300 foot walk over to Cafe a Hagen instead. read more

This is the oldest independent coffee shop on Queen Anne; not including Uptown (lower Queen Anne) Espresso where the owner Jack Kelly originally started at. There is an Uptown - Caffe Ladro location at the bottom of the Counterbalance too. They source and roast their own coffee and bake all their treats. They even have vegan treats. Today the baristas were painfully slow and surly and one finally acknowledged me only to tell me that I wasn't waiting in line correctly (because I didn't want to push through the people already standing in the narrow hallway to get to the end of the line). And the breakfast food is usually sold out before 9 am. These are tough times and of course we all need to show some grace, but it literally costs nothing to just be nice. September 6th around 1ish in the afternoon, I don't know the name of the lady working there but she was rude and I felt rushed to order. I have 4 years experience working at a cafe myself so i understand not being happy since it's common to run into a lot of rude customers. I however was nice and I even tipped, though I regret it now. Since I felt rushed I ordered the first thing I saw on the menu and really didn't like it. I don't want to be that customer and say make something different and so I dealt with it, but my partner insisted he go back to the cafe and order me something else. He brought my drink and showed it to her and asked to get a lavender latte of the same size. She was also rude to him and ignored the fact that he was replacing that drink. He told me about this and I tried my lavender latte and the espresso tasted burnt and there was barely any lavender flavor to it. The pastries I bought were also hard as rock. So we ended up wasting more money. We don't go out much so this was supposed to be a treat for us. The quality and service is not good. I will say the only positive thing is there was a nice guy working there at the same time and I asked him for a to go container for my pastries before I left. He washed his hands before kindly giving me the container and was very polite. read more

I go to this coffee shop often for their amazing vegan pastries. However, my last visit was so painful I had to leave empty handed. I went in and checked the display case to make sure they had Vegan pastries. They did! As I was about to get on line, the server/barista was obviously having a bad day. She was slamming things around and when she noticed that there was no distinct line for the people waiting, she yelled at us in a very unpleasant way for us to get in line. The vegan pastry was NOT worth the attitude. I am really writing this here on Yelp today after I sent Cafe Ladro a private review the day after the visit and did not hear back any reply. I came in to try their mochas, which as you know is espresso, steamed milk, and mocha (chocolate) syrup or powder. A short cup of mocha was $3.75 pre-tax. I am not sure what I drank, but it sure did not taste like mocha to me. I tasted pretty much zero percent chocolate and mostly warm milk. I could not even taste the espresso that much, either. It kind of just felt like drinking warm frothy milk with the slightest hint of espresso flavor and that was it. Too bad. The staff here seem very Seattle: beanies, beards, and/or glasses. It's not a bad thing, but that's how it is. The environment is cool though. Very dim and has these crazy big fans. It looks great against the backdrop of the grey Seattle skies. read more

I was recommended to go to a Caffe Ladro by some of the Seattle locals so after having a fantastic trip in Seattle that was mostly coffee based, I definitely had to try this place out. This place is absolutely tiny, I think cash only and at night is very dimly lit so you can barely see where you're stepping (and that's not quite an easy task at such a small coffee shop where everyone is within an elbow's reach). They have a huge menu on the mirror which can sometimes be hard to read as your own reflection would distract you from some of the words or make them difficult to make out. I got a soy latte and I thought that although the latte had good flavor, the coffee was a little bland and not as nutty or chocolatey as I would have expected of this place. I came in to get a coffee here, and waited while the barista chatted with her friend and didn't even look my way. Not even a "hey, be right with ya!" That said, enter Caffe Ladro. This place is the simple format, coffee place, with great tasting coffee, but one has to admire the simplicity of this location. They have seating for maybe 24 people inside, 4 booths, 2 window booths (great places to be above the crowd, literally), but this place is the perfect people watching location, because of the deck chairs outside. Sure it's freezing out there right now; but give it a few months, and you will find that this is remarkably comfy to just sit, lean back, sip, and relax. How is the coffee? It's not the strongest, harshest brew, instead, it's just darn tasty; I got a Tall Soy No-Whip Mocha. Look... It's cold outside right now, but this place is inviting, warm and just feels good. My friend's latte was fine but nothing special and the hot chocolate had no flavor in it until the very last sip, there was a hint of chocolate. The prices are the same prices as other coffee shops. I'm not a coffee expert, so the fact that I liked the mocha I got probably doesn't say much. That being said, they have a nice rustic vibe to sit and read or do work. It's quite intimate though. There's not a whole lot of seating, so it's a tough place to agree to meet with friends given that you might not even be able to snag a table.... or if you do, it could be less than two feet from the couple having an animated conversation next to you. I've been going here every weekend but will probably stop going in the future. It's the only cafe in Upper Queen Anne that doesn't allow dogs which is a big negative for me. Most of the baristas are really friendly and the coffee is good, but the weekend morning barista was rude enough for me to write a 3 star review. If not for that one barista, this review would be 5 stars and I would continue to patron this ladro. Go to Cafe Fiore or Diablo for a better, more dog friendly cafe. read more

Ladro, I have such mixed feelings about you. I love your vibe and your baristas are very nice & the coffee is great. But you have a major problem making iced drinks. As in, the cup gets filled to the brim with ice, and your drink goes from being 16oz, to being 4 oz. I shouldn't have to ask for light ice to get a drink that lasts for more then 5 sips (which is exactly how many sips I enjoyed of the 20oz, iced chai I bought today). This has happened the last 3 times I've been in. Let's be blunt: this is ripping off your customers. I normally would've sent an email in, but your system only let's you send 500 characters, and doesn't accommodate a picture. So I posted here instead. Love you guys, I really do. Walking around the upper Queen areas in the early evening hours, I suddenly caught myself in a state where I was so cold I could no longer make use of my fingers . To seek some warmth , I entered Caffè ladro in the hope for some hot chocolate . They have about 6 tables and almost all of them were occupied with people tapping away on their tablets and laptops. I was lucky to find myself a seat. I walked up to order a cup of Hot chocolate and a feta spinach quiche . The server there welcomed me and realised that I was yet to recover from the frigid freezing weather outside. She noticed that I couldn't even get the card out of my wallet and asked me to warm myself up. I sat myself at the only table that was available which fortunately for me was the one right by the dustbin (;)). The feta spinach quiche was rather lovely. The flaky pastry surrounded the soft beaten eggs. The spinach was however minimal . The hot chocolate was warm and not at a temperature I would like to sip it in and I asked for it to be heated up. The server at this time told me I could stay up till closing of I wanted to stay away from the cold. I obviously didn't stay till 8 pm because it was only getting colder but it was nice of her to offer . I left with the memory of a good experience and a whole lot of warmth (that soon ran out ;) ). Yes... I visited two, count that TWO Caffe Ladros in less than 20 minutes. Why, you ask? Well - I used this nifty program called Yelp and found a Caffe Ladro on Queen Anne Ave N. I was told by a colleague to meet me at "the Ladro in Queen Anne." So naturally I Yelp the place, direct myself there with the GPS function via my Yelp app and then sit and wait. And wait. And WAIT! After nearly 20 minutes I email my friend and say, "I'm here! Just let me know when you're close." Then he replies, "I'm here too! Where are you?" Whodathunk that something like this would happen? I didn't search hard enough. There are two Caffe Ladros on the same street. One in LQA an the other in UQA. Anywho - we were both in the right spot. Sorta! I used Yelp to find the other location and met him down there after getting a tasty latte first. So funny! This coffee house was just as lovely as the other. I love Cafe Ladro, it's easily my favorite coffee shop in Seattle, but their Upper Queen Anne location consistently suffers from inferior Baristas for some reason. It's odd because just a ways away at their Lower Queen Anne location, the Baristas are always stellar. Maybe it's a product of the Upper Queen Anne atmosphere, but the Baristas are often rude at this location, but far worse than that, they tend to have terrible music taste - and far, far worse, they play their really crappy music so loud I can't block it out with noise-canceling headphones :( The worst of the bunch is the smaller, aging, male rocker-type guy that works weekends, often wearing all black and circular shades - he's a real dick. On the other hand, the really tall guy w/ white plugs in his ears is SUPER nice, and a pro behind the espresso machine. read more

Caffe Ladro makes consistently good Americanos (I rarely order other drinks) and THE BEST apple pie. The strawberry rhubarb is a little weird in consistency. I spent an afternoon at this location a while back, killing time waiting for someone. it is kinda out of my way, so I am usually at other locations. I agree the music is a little loud here, but it is good music and makes it feel like authentic Seattle. The barista seemed to have great rapport with regular customers, and was friendly and laid back. He was eating a bowl of cereal in between customers, which some people may not approve of in a food service situation. It did not bother me, as he was discreet and not messy. This seems to be the "cool" place to be on Queen Anne. I'd fit in much better if I were wearing an entire outfit from Urban Outfitters, trendy glasses, and a funkidelic hat, toting a laptop, but alas, I'm just me. I didn't fit in. The line was long, the place was packed (why?) and in the end, my iced tea wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Plus, the employees were pretty damn rude, obviously needing a lesson in customer service.... service with a smile? Not so much.
