A solid brunch place that serves a lovely variety of savory and sweet crepes! I came here on a Saturday morning around 10 AM and waited about 15-20 minutes for a table of four. There are tables indoors and outdoors, and while I preferred to sit indoors given the rain, I'm sure this would be a great place to enjoy an outdoors brunch on a sunny day. I enjoyed the Nutella crepe, Alaska crepe, Spanakopita crepe, and French toast. The food was good, but honestly nothing too extraordinary from your run-of-the-mill crepes. Nonetheless, it's a solid place and I will be back!
I was in Pittsburgh for a weekend to help move my daughter into her apartment and wanted a delicious breakfast before a busy day. We went on a Sunday morning when the city was still sleeping and only the early birds were awake. The cafe was nearly empty, giving that quiet relaxed feeling. We sat in the back where the light was still dim. We ordered a latte and a chai tea latte while we looked over the menu. It was hard to decide between the avocado toast, crepes and the French toast, so we decided to order all three. The food was AH- mazing. The avocado toast was served with the best dressing on the side salad. I asked if the dressing was available for sale because it was the most incredible lemon vinaigrette I've ever tasted. Anything with the dressing is a MUST try.
Portions were large. Got the Alaska and the Super Belgium. The Alaska left alot to be desired, salmon was weird and heavy on the cream cheese, lacked flavor and depth however the super Belgium was amazing. Brunch is obviously a very busy time to go but the staff did their best. If you want a quiet place to it, this is not it. Very loud and chaotic with all the people. Still enjoyable and clean! I liked the vibe!
So overrated honestly. We went here for breakfast on a Thursday and I was excited to try this place because people tell me great things about it. Was not impressed with the French toast at all. We got a savory crepe and it was just fine. Everything was bland. Good coffee though. Service was not attentive for refills and the price was a big steep for what it really is.
My vegan husband loved it. Im curious to see how busy it is on a weekend but we went after dropping the kids off at school and it was perfect. No wait. Our server was great. This is a small thing that felt out of place but not necessarily bad: the mugs were just regular mugs like you have at home. Im looking forward to a spanikopita crepe next time.
I have been to Café Moulin in Shadyside several times on previous trips to Pittsburgh. In truth, it's such a favorite of mine that I headed there straight from the airport on my most recent visit. The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. It's pretty popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it moves pretty quick. The menu focuses heavily on crepes and French toast, and they do both very well. I went for a savory crepe that was loaded with eggs and topped with a rich sauce and diced vegetables. It came with a side of fresh fruit which was a nice touch. We also ordered a sweet crepe to share. It was beautifully presented with chocolate drizzle, berry sauce, and a massive pile of whipped cream. The coffee is solid too. Verdict: This is a consistent and reliable brunch spot. It was the perfect way to kick off my trip. I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
the bristol crepe and barcelona french toast combo is divine, gluttonous, and a most order combo. the avocado and cheese in the crepe make for a crazy good texture and the cheese and berry compote in the barcelona french toast make for an excellent savory sweet combo. great brunch spot
Stopped by for a late weekend lunch -- they were really busy, even around 1:30 or 2, but fortunately our group of 5 only had to wait around 15 minutes to get seated. The place is pretty spacious with a decent amount of seating, but is apparently quite popular so I hear there's always a queue at peak times. Everything we ordered was so delicious. The french toast was fluffy and sweet without being too heavy. The crepes we got (Bristol, super belgium, Ottawa egg platter) were both super yummy. Turkey meat in the Bristol crepe was juicy and so flavourful, and the brie in the Ottawa one was just such a wonderful complement to the eggy omelette. All the fruits (blueberries, strawberries, bananas), either on the crepes or in the side order, were so fresh. Service was a bit slow (understandable due to how busy it was) but otherwise friendly and helpful. Price point was great for everything we ordered. I'd love to come back in the future :)
I love cafe Moulin! It is my go to breakfast spot in Pittsburgh. This was my 3rd visit in about a year and half and the food did not disappoint. The crepes and side salad are awesome. But the star of the show for me is the Shakshouka. I have gotten it the last 2 times I went. You also have to try their Dirty Chai. My only critique is the hostess at the front. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
Came here on a Saturday for lunch around noon. For a table for two, we waited about 30 minutes. You have to be present in the restaurant so they can call your name when the table is ready even though it is very cramped around the door. We ordered some crepes and they were delicious! So flavorful and savory with large portions. The Dubai chocolate was very exciting, pistachio on the inside with chocolate on the outside. The service was a bit disappointing, our server never came around besides to take our order and give the bill. Other than that, we had to track down employees to fill up our water. There is street parking near the restaurant and a paid parking lot in the back.
Service was really quick even with how busy they were. Food came out fast and service was very flexible with us given the size of our party. Ambiance was a bit loud inside but it makes sense for how crowded it was. Food felt fresh and was worth the wait
After waiting for about an hour we were able to sit and eat. We had our toddler with us and they were b Very accommodating! The space is small and was a little hard to walk between tables especially with how busy there were. The inside is cute and the decor is fun. Bathroom do having changing table. We ordered the yogurt parfait, avocado toast, and the chicken shawarma.
Everything about this place was very good! The inside was lovely decorated, with nice outside lighting. The service was speedy and everyone was really nice. The food was yummy! I've never had a crepe quite like this. My white mocha was also very tasty.

I can't say enough good things about Cafe Moulin! Whether you're looking for a classic eggs and bacon breakfast, a crepe, or beautiful gourmet toast, they've got you covered. This is one of my favorite places for brunch between the friendly, low-key atmosphere and beautifully prepared food. It can get busy on the weekends, but try a weekday if you're in a hurry! read more

So glad for Cafe Moulin that they've moved upstairs! Same great food but with abundant sunlight. What a pleasant spot, even on a rainy Saturday morning. My french toast was delicious as always but tried their breakfast sausage for the first time this morning and will definitely add it into my rotation. read more

as an egyptian it was mandatory to get the shakshuka, it was good. my friend had the bagel lox that she liked, we also got the dubai chocolate crepe -- the katafi was undercooked so i wouldn't get that again but i would def come back. ambiance and vibes was nice read more
This was my first visit in four years so it was also my first time since it moved upstairs. The atmosphere is so much better! Light and airy. There are currently a few outside tables in the street out front of the restaurant. The long wait is still part of the experience and to be expected on a beautiful Sunday late morning at such a popular place in Shadyside. Their menu does feature savory, sweet, and omelet crepes. In addition, they offer a variety of toasts both French toasts and egg toasts; Plus a limited Healthy Options section with Salad and Fruit. I do miss their mixed greens version of the side salad that previously accompanied their crepe dishes. One crepe, Spinach & Feta (can add-on avocado and tomato) was plenty of food for me. The ginger peach ice tea was so refreshing and they offer real fresh squeezed orange juice. The staff from the hostess, food runner, to the waiter were awesome. And their POS system, Toast made splitting out our group of six's checks easily. Note for courtesy: when there is a waitlist, there is a limit to how long you have at the table. The metered street parking is free on Sundays. And if you're not great at parallel parking there is an alley of pull-in parking spaces behind the restaurant. And for those of you not familiar with the area, it's located on a side street just off the main business district strip of Walnut Street so you can conveniently walk around shopping either while you wait for a table or afterward to burn off the calories of a delicious crepe brunch! read more

This is a great spot to grab a crepe. The atmosphere is cute and charming. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. I've tried several crepes on the menu and they've all been fantastic. It definitely seems like they use top notch ingredients. Highly recommend for a sweet or savory crepe, and I'm sure their other dishes (French toast, toasts, omelettes) are also great. The food can take a bit of time to come, but we were there during brunch so it was quite busy. read more
This place is delicious (their crepes and waffles are really popular)! The waiting will be really long however (expect 30-45 mins during brunch hours to be seated plus decent amount of time for food to be served) but you can hangout in the area. Overall, cute place and food is good. The iced white mocha was good, but there were bits of sugar that were settled at the bottom. Other than that, it was really refreshing and delicious! read more

The service is always excellent! We went around Noon on a Friday and there was no wait, which is rare but there's so many shops to explore while you wait it's a wonderful way to look around. It's a very bright, warm and welcoming place. The food is fantastic, with a wide variety between sweet and savory dishes. One of my favorite spots in Shadyside! read more

I came here to try their gluten free French toast for breakfast, it was pretty good. I got a nice seat at the bar by myself. It's a little noisy in there but it's not too bad. The servers were very polite as well. read more

A great spot in Shadyside to have brunch! Parking can be challenging since it's mostly street parking! There was 6 of us on a Sunday afternoon and we waited 45mins which was expected. We hung out at the coffee tree roasters for a bit! The menu had a variety! I got the Ham and Swiss with added egg. It was definitely filling!! My friend got the Barcelona French toast and it looked delicious! She was actually the first person to finished her plate! Next time I'm gonna try that!! My crepe was delicious as well! From looking at the reviews prior to coming and seeing the salad wasn't leafy greens as in the pictures was a little disappointing but other then that the service was great and decor was cute! read more
I ordered freshly squeezed orange juice, Eggie veggie toast and Super belgium crepe! The crepes are fantastic and pretty reasonable. I loved how fresh orange juice was! Best place to get breakfast in Shadyside! Friendly and attentive staff, with quick service. I didn't have to wait for long, it was easy to find parking and is in a great location! How I had never been here is a complete mystery to me. Found it on Yelp while just looking around, and decided that it would be a great place to try. So, we had a nice Saturday lunch here and really loved it! The house was PACKED, but service was quick and food was delicious. Their crepes are super tasty! There's a ton of options, and you won't be sorry with any of them. I also liked how they serve a very tasty side salad with the crepe order - it complements the dish perfectly. Prices are very reasonable, staff is friendly, and food is delicious! The most difficult part is finding convenient parking! We'll be back! read more

We didn't wait too long for our food but it wasn't very crowded for a Friday morning. Perfect location too, we were able to visit a few shops on the same street! Stopped in for lunch today after a nice girl's morning with one of my best friends. Parking is in paid lots or paid street spots. It's a small space so you might have to wait (not sure about opentable or yelp's app since we went on a random Monday morning). I got the lox toast and it was delicious. The salmon was smoky and the little tomatoes and spread were a nice touch. I wished the ciabatta was toasted more. For dessert (we ran the Pittsburgh Half Marathon yesterday and were rungry) I for the walnut st crepe. It was nutty, caramelly, buttery and topped with granola. read more

When you first walk in, the decor has a French- modern vibe going for it. I really liked the aesthetic they aimed for here - you have the open kitchen to see the quality food but you still have a cozy French cafe decor. I will say the giant rooster on the one wall ventured a bit too modern for me and I preferred the brick painted wall as a cozier view, but we didn't come here for atmosphere did we? We came for crepes! From top to bottom the menu has options for everyone, from vegans and vegetarians to meat lovers and sweetlovers! My partner and I settled on their omelette- crepes, as we were looking for something heavier but my partner's sweet tooth could not shy away from suggesting a shared French toast platter. My partner got the marseille which comes with a bit of a salsa with a small kick atop this meaty flavorful pile of folded fluffy eggs, with a delightfully light crepe underneath. He added their aioli on the side just to try it out and let me tell you, if you're someone who likes hollandaise this is gonna be your JAM! Just a little dip on the fork before you pick up your bite and you'll be in heaven. My Ottawa was equally delightful with added béchamel sauce, though the presentation of the omelette wrapped in the crepe posed a bit of difficulty when eating. I'd suggest requesting the egg on top rather than wrapped just because the risk of losing your eggs out the back disassembles your dish, but the flavor is all the same. NOW FOR THE FRENCH TOAST. I truly thought I was getting something 100% sweet when I read whipped cream and raspberry sauce on French toast, but let me tell you I couldn't be more wrong. The Barcelona French toast is a MUST TRY for anyone who is looking for a dish when they can't decide savory or sweet. Picture a nicely cooked piece of soft French toast but between the next slice is this ooey-gooey layer of cheese that you didn't know could work so well! We were so taken by our "dessert" that we ate it first! The raspberry compote isn't overly sweet - it's like a natural tart-sweet that complements it well. I would eat here again. Mardi and the amazing staff they have there are ready to help you order and they truly respect a hot béchamel (it's only served in the crepe, never on the side). Don't forget to grab a coffee or latte while you're there, because they don't disappoint by any means! I'd probably stop by for just coffee if I was closer. read more

Food is okay. I feel dishonesty in their business and I got scammed by their coffee order. Their House Coffee clearly indicated "free refill" on the menu, but when we ordered decaf House Coffee, the House Coffee order was automatically changed to Americano (I assume that the do not have decaf House Coffee), and Americano does NOT have free refill. The issue is that we were not told that they charge every single cup of the refill for our decaf Americano, until we saw the bill. Imagine if a party of 4 get decaf coffee and all happen to refill once, that's total of 8 cups of Americano, adding up to $25~$30. read more
Cafe moulin has really cute decor and they just recently renovated. They are owned by real Parisians and their food is authentic. My mom says that their Alaskan crepe is the best "lox crepe" in all of Pittsburgh. I liked their spinach and feta crepe. The couple of let downs is that they don't have a wide variety of items on the menu. Also the flour that they use makes your teeth feel really really weird. Lastly, the waitresses constantly hover over you making you feel uncomfortable. I've also gone a prior time and felt as though the waitresses were judging my every move. read more

The food is excellent. One can smell the French toast from outside the restaurant. Great selection of coffees and drinks. I had a ham and cheese crepe and it was delicious. Delicious spot to grab brunch! There can be a bit of a wait, but their crepes are delicious! I got the Tivoli which came with fresh mozzarella, cherry tomato, baby spinach, pesto and side salad. I've been going to this spot for years and they've moved to a larger location, but it's still attached to the same building. It definitely feels a lot more open than the old spot. The dishes have had tiny changes over the years, but the food has always been consistently good. I had the Alaskan, and the smoked salmon has always been delicious and I feel like they do a good job of serving quality items. This place has also surprised me with the little things. One person in the party asked for milk to put into their tea, and the server asked if they'd like the milk heated. I've never had that presented as an option, and while cold milk was fine, it shows that they didn't mind going the extra mile to make sure the beverage was enjoyed. I also do feel as though that the menu has been expanded on over the years. There are quite a few savory and sweet crepe options, but there's also some panini and french toast options, and the menu offers far more vegan options than the average place, and that's a nice bonus depending on distant choices. read more

I ordered the Amsterdam French toast, which also came with Turkish sausage and eggs. The eggs were in a folded omelet kind of style, which I liked. Overall I enjoyed the food, but I would have preferred prices to be a bit cheaper. I was here for brunch on a weekday so the restaurant wasn't crowded at all, which was very nice, because on the weekends it can get kind of crazy. I had to wait to get in. read more
