Found a new favorite cafe as I'm new to town. Been here twice in one week. First visit was to try their latte which I ordered iced as it was in the afternoon. Loved their iced latte. They have three sugar-free flavors: vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut. Next visit was on a very cold Saturday morning to try Oram's donuts. Those donuts are huge and very flavorful. Got here early to get our choice of the selection. The case was filled with donuts, cinnamon rolls, bear claws, and more. I chose a filled donut with chocolate icing and hubby got a jelly filled donut. Both are very good. Love the friendly, quick service from the employees. They never rush you and are so kind. There is a main level dining area and an upper area (3-4 steps or a lift) with plenty of small tables and chairs, upholstered chairs with tables, and an enclosed room for serious studying. WiFi. I love spending an afternoon in shadyside and walking along walnut st. This is a great place to grab a coffee or sit and work/study as there's a ton of seating for both individuals and groups. The coffee is decent, I went with a caramel frozaccino which was super refreshing on a hot day. I wanted a snack too so got a cinnamon roll which was a little dissapointing, average at best. Service was a plus, the bag from my cinnamon roll got the table I was working at sticky and I didn't want to get it on my computer so asked for a wet towel or something to clean it quick and instead the guy I had asked just came and cleaned it for me instead which I appreciated. read more

Where this cafe shines is that it's a large space and a favorite spot to do some work with pretty good coffee and a wide variety of snacks. I especially love when they open the space up with their outdoor seating, lots of space available for mostly students to come and do work in a homey environment. The coffee was a bit cold, but I liked their dark roast. I have tried their specialty lattes and have found them to be okay, not really worth getting again. I truly enjoyed their pecan roll, but all their pastries are pretty solid, especially love that they come from a variety of other local businesses. I think it's not my go to for coffee in the area but pretty reliable for a pastry and one of the easiest places to find a seat to study/do work. read more

I'm going to be honest...the coffee here is not good and I would not come here if I just wanted coffee. The lemonade also tasted a little bit like what I imagine cat pee would taste like. HOWEVER, this is a good study spot. I recently went when it was snowing outside (and a guy playing the clarinet was in front of the shop) and it was a very cozy and warm vibe. The wifi is not good at all so you'll have to use a hot spot, but there are lots of people studying here so it's a good working environment. There are a few outlets, lots of tables, and pastries if you need a little study fuel. Overall, I'd definitely come back to study here sometime. read more

Love that I actually had no idea where I was because there's literally no branding at all....got the vanilla cold brew. Smooth and tast. Would recommend if in the area instead of Starbucks. A very popular cafe and study spot with lots of space and even a quiet study room. Right in the heart of Walnut St. in Shadyside so very visible. While the coffee is average, I so appreciated their Spring seasonal decorations of tissue paper flowers they have hanging from the ceiling. They were all so beautiful and realistic! NICE COFFEE SHOP IN SHADYSIDE. The coffee tree Roasters is right off the main strip. And offers quite a bit of seating for work, studying, or just people watching while enjoying your latte! I got a matcha latte and was impressed with all the different milk options. I went with Pistachio milk in my matcha latte and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience of the busy shop. Such a cute coffee shop! I decided to come here for a coffee break after shopping around Shadyside. It has a cute vibe with lots of seating. I ordered a small oat milk cappuccino and a flax seed bar. I enjoyed the cappuccino, but I felt like the espresso could have been a richer flavor. I tasted more oat milk than coffee, which I thought was strange for a cappuccino. But it was still enjoyable! The flax seed bar was a nice, homemade pick me up. I loved supporting this local coffee shop today! If I lived in the area, I would definitely be a regular here. They had many amazing pastry options, and their drip coffee was delicious and flavorful. Their bear claws are huge! The only downside is they don't serve them warm unless you ask--and even then, the pastry is never really warm. Still, it's a great space to work from with plenty of seating. Nestled right before the Sephora sign and the card game shop, this is a very popular spot in late morning weekends. Despite nearly every table being taken up, service was still fast. I didn't see where it came from, but our Thai iced tea came out in practically less than a minute. It was overly sweet for my taste, though. They have some nice perks to sit down like a little story printing machine and several free ice water dispensers. read more

This cafe is located in the Alcoa Residencies building. I love it and the servers are so friendly. I normally get my favorite which is a vanilla chai latte. They also have salad bowls, wraps and other pastries to munch on. There's also seating available if you wish to sit and have something on the spot. Definitely recommend. read more

The staff here is ridiculously rude. I have never experienced a coffee shop being so rude to a paying costumer before. I purchased my coffee (which was below average) and sat down to study. After 2 hours of studying, I opened a snack I brought (fruit) to eat. Soon after a staff member very rudely came up to me saying outside food and beverage is not allowed and I can not eat my snack indoors. I totally understand this if I was eating chipotle, chick fil a, etc (any restaurants food) inside their property but I didn't not understand the need for the staff to be so rude to a paying customers when it was a small snack from home. I'm guilty of visiting the big chains like anyone else. The many Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, or Tim Hortons locations and apps make coffee on the run so convenient. A little too convenient! Sometimes it's refreshing to slow down, relax, and enjoy the coffeehouse atmosphere for a moment. Living in the North Hills we don't have many independent restaurants, but while shopping in Shadyside I finally had the opportunity to try a new place! After shopping for art supplies nearby at Blick, I noticed a cafe I had passed too many times, yet never stopped at. Today was the day, we artists need caffeine too to get the creativity pumping! On warm days the front garage door windows open to let in fresh air and set the outdoor cafe scene. But this is late October in Pittsburgh, so we're going with cozy indoor vibes. It was somewhat dimly lit with lots of local students typing away and a small line that moved along at a pace just right to admire the interior. I ordered my usual white mocha and it was just the right temp and flavor. Enough excitement to push me to explore more local food joints! read more

The vibe here is fantastic - big, open space and lots of tables to choose from. It's definitely Covid friendly as the coffee shop has their big garage window open in the summer months. The cold brew itself was good. If you're looking for a complex flavor profile this probably is not it. However it is refreshing and definitely does the job! I've always loved Walnut Street and the environment at this particular CTR location. It's been one of my favorite places to get work done in Pittsburgh. They do have a time limit for how long you can stay due to COVID and also have closed all the charging outlets so that people adhere to this new rule. As frustrating as it can be, I understand that they are doing their part to keep us all safe! I ordered a small iced latte and was saddened to find out that they no longer offer refills due to COVID. As usual, the latte was refreshing and I appreciate how they let you choose what type of milk they use. It's very customizable per one's preferences. My only complaints about CTR are that the drinks are a bit pricey, even for the small size. Also, the round tables are small so if you're working with a friend, you need to get two tables right next to each other so that you each have enough space to work. read more

I always think that this place is warm and welcoming. They no longer have my favorite drink but I am trying to get over that. If you come when they are slow hopefully you are able to catch the couch seat by the fireplace. That is usually the spot where I like to navigate too. Today I was scoping it out as some ladies left and I was able to swoop in and score a prime comfy couch right next to the fireplace. I did not want coffee since it was already past 4 and I was heading to the gym after. I am not a big fan of the energize and then work out. I am a more energize in the morning or before I have to do a lot of homework type of person. Caffeine before working out just makes me nauseous. So I opted for something different. Usually Italian soda is my go to jam, but this time I went for the hot apple cider grogge. I love apple cider and it warmed and spiced sounded a lot better to me than a cold drink. The weather in PGH is changing and while I usually like a nice cold drink even I can sometimes surprise myself. I was pleasantly surprised to say that the drink was not overly sweet. It wasn't too much and made me get the sugar shakes. It was just right. Just the right amount of sweetness and just the right amount of spices to make it comforting and delightful. I would get this again if it is on the menu. It was just enough to get me through the few hours before I was heading to the gym. But not overly sweet to make me shaky. It was a good pick and suggestion from the barista. I would take her word the next time I come in and am I unsure, which does happen a lot! read more
