Ok, it's my dirty little secret. I love this place. I always get the Lychee Mohito with Herb Jelly add-in. It's very spartan. I wish they had a TV and a place to set your drink down for a second. The waffles are good. Personally the Red Velvet and Pork Sung are the best ones, the Macha one was a disappointment. I've never had the other drinks but I tasted a Yoghurt + Fruit (Mango) and it was nice. I'd like to try other drinks but honestly I just get the one Mohito. One of the nicest new surprises in Squirrel Hill, though I do want to know more about what appears to be a Chinese conglomerate (Happy Panda 88 or something?) taking over the old neighborhood. I got a sip of my friend's lychee fruit tea with milk foam and it was super yummy (I think I like her's a bit more). I also tried the peach milk tea and it was good too! Best taste for the price around Squirrel Hill. They're busy, so ordering online can save you time on weekends. Service pace is decent though, since there are a bunch of workers. There's no indoor seating and very limited outdoor seating, so it's definitely a grab and go situation. The tapioca balls never disappoint, as they're always chewy, moderately sweet, and not soggy/overcooked. Their milk teas don't come crazy sweet even at 100%. Blueberry Yogurt w/Crystal Boba: only comes in the small size. I've tried this entire series and they all taste like yogurt. If you're not a fan of that sour yogurt taste, I don't recommend it as it's not particularly sweet. Uji Matcha: comes with cheese foam. Honestly one of the best matcha drinks I've had in Pittsburgh. Nice and earthy, doesn't taste like a matcha-milk powder mix. Fav boba spot in Pittsburgh!! And also honestly one of my fav boba spots ever, even after trying so many in the bay area. Something about the taro milk swirl has me whipped. Any of their milk swirls are really good but the taro is definitely the best! It's my go to drink here (25% sugar is perfect) and it never failed me :') they use real taro too and the texture is really thick and creamy. Their boba texture is perfect imo and their drinks never taste watered down. The workers here are really friendly and you can order on the kiosk so the line usually moves really fast. They could use a little less batter to create slightly crispier gai dan chai but good enough for Pittsburgh. When it comes to boba, there are so many different options around the East End, and I think everyone just has their own cup of tea (ha!). This one was not mine. The tea itself was tasty, and the boba was as expected, but I wish I had not opted in for the jelly. It just wasn't what I had come to expect from other bubble tea places in the area. The jelly was very wet, and I was not a fan of the texture, which got even more noticeable when we had to stir the bottom of the cup to get the syrup that had settled there to mix in. This is a must-stop when in Squirrel Hill. We tend to often get the brown sugar milk bubble or the brown sugar milk black tea. I am excited to try the fruit teas on future visits! This most recent visit, we also got the red velvet egg waffle and the macarons. Highly recommend both of these. The egg waffle is served warm in a bag. The macarons were as expected, light and tasty. We tried the pistachio, red velvet, blueberry lavender, and hazelnut macarons. I suggest ordering online so you can fully explore their menu. They also have in-store ordering options on an iPad or a station to order face-to-face with staff. The only thing I don't quite understand and probably should ask to clarify - they have an option for percent of sugar when ordering. The question is, is this added sugar? It just wouldn't be fair of me to leave it like this. I came back and re-tried a few of their drinks and wow, their brown sugar with oreo milk foam and boba has gotten a ridiculous amount better. There's so much more oreo now -- it makes a real difference in how it tastes and adds a layer of texture that wasn't there before. The boba is also significantly better. They have individual flavor and are just the right amount of firm. The only thing is, remember when I said that the boba is significantly better? It is... sometimes. On the good days. There is still a level of inconsistency to this shop. Will the boba be good when you go? Who knows! It's the unknown! The mystery of it all! And finally, although the wait time for boba has shortened, it is still just long enough to be painful. I definitely think there's been a noticeable difference in Tsaocaa's drinks, though, and I can now say I'm looking forward to coming back whenever I next find myself in Pittsburgh. read more

Love it here. Is it possible to give more than five stars? I've been wanting to come here for a really long time. During the height of the pandemic I couldn't bring myself to leave the house because of the baby and I also couldn't bring myself to order door dash for a $5 tea. But now that I'm feeling more comfortable I was so excited to try this place. I will say that every time that I've been here I have had to wait a little bit. It's not a big deal but just know that it's so good that people will be ordering and you will be waiting. They have a computer off to the side so you don't even have to talk to someone to put your order in. So it makes the line go a little bit faster since there's two lines instead of the one. The menu is pretty easy to understand. They have A snowflake for slushies and tell you which ones have set ice levels and set sugar level. There's no way for you to be confused over what you're getting. I really enjoy that part of the menu. I usually go for something normal but this time I decided to go for a slushie. It was really hot and I wanted something to cool me off and my throat. And it was delicious. I don't usually like a lot of sugar so it was really happy to report that the zero sugar level with the boba was still a little bit sweet so I was very happy that I didn't overly sweeten my drink by adding extra sugar. Just keep in mind that boba is sometimes sweetened when it's made and that can make you want to adjust how sweet you get the drink. I would definitely come here again and I will. Tsaocaa comes highly recommended via the Pittsburgh sub-Reddit. Given that there's a plethora of boba tea places in Oakland/Squirrel Hill, I was confident that Reddit did not steer me wrong, and I was right - my boba tea was delicious! I found out that the majority of the milk tea is lactose-free. This is not listed on their menu but when I called they were able to steer me in the right direction. I got a oolong bubble tea that was 30% sweet. The boba itself was sweet as well so I'm glad I went low on the additional sugar. Honestly I wasn't the biggest fan. I know this spot is popular, but I found the self-ordering to be a bit confusing and just way too many ways to customize your boba. Also, since it was self-ordering on a tablet I didn't really get to ask questions or get any recommendations. I prefer to use the self-pay stations because I am an introvert and find it less overwhelming to be able to look through the menu.
