A solid brunch place that serves a lovely variety of savory and sweet crepes! I came here on a Saturday morning around 10 AM and waited about 15-20 minutes for a table of four. There are tables indoors and outdoors, and while I preferred to sit indoors given the rain, I'm sure this would be a great place to enjoy an outdoors brunch on a sunny day. I enjoyed the Nutella crepe, Alaska crepe, Spanakopita crepe, and French toast. The food was good, but honestly nothing too extraordinary from your run-of-the-mill crepes. Nonetheless, it's a solid place and I will be back!
I was in Pittsburgh for a weekend to help move my daughter into her apartment and wanted a delicious breakfast before a busy day. We went on a Sunday morning when the city was still sleeping and only the early birds were awake. The cafe was nearly empty, giving that quiet relaxed feeling. We sat in the back where the light was still dim. We ordered a latte and a chai tea latte while we looked over the menu. It was hard to decide between the avocado toast, crepes and the French toast, so we decided to order all three. The food was AH- mazing. The avocado toast was served with the best dressing on the side salad. I asked if the dressing was available for sale because it was the most incredible lemon vinaigrette I've ever tasted. Anything with the dressing is a MUST try.
Portions were large. Got the Alaska and the Super Belgium. The Alaska left alot to be desired, salmon was weird and heavy on the cream cheese, lacked flavor and depth however the super Belgium was amazing. Brunch is obviously a very busy time to go but the staff did their best. If you want a quiet place to it, this is not it. Very loud and chaotic with all the people. Still enjoyable and clean! I liked the vibe!
So overrated honestly. We went here for breakfast on a Thursday and I was excited to try this place because people tell me great things about it. Was not impressed with the French toast at all. We got a savory crepe and it was just fine. Everything was bland. Good coffee though. Service was not attentive for refills and the price was a big steep for what it really is.
My vegan husband loved it. Im curious to see how busy it is on a weekend but we went after dropping the kids off at school and it was perfect. No wait. Our server was great. This is a small thing that felt out of place but not necessarily bad: the mugs were just regular mugs like you have at home. Im looking forward to a spanikopita crepe next time.
I have been to Café Moulin in Shadyside several times on previous trips to Pittsburgh. In truth, it's such a favorite of mine that I headed there straight from the airport on my most recent visit. The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. It's pretty popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it moves pretty quick. The menu focuses heavily on crepes and French toast, and they do both very well. I went for a savory crepe that was loaded with eggs and topped with a rich sauce and diced vegetables. It came with a side of fresh fruit which was a nice touch. We also ordered a sweet crepe to share. It was beautifully presented with chocolate drizzle, berry sauce, and a massive pile of whipped cream. The coffee is solid too. Verdict: This is a consistent and reliable brunch spot. It was the perfect way to kick off my trip. I will definitely be back next time I am in town.
the bristol crepe and barcelona french toast combo is divine, gluttonous, and a most order combo. the avocado and cheese in the crepe make for a crazy good texture and the cheese and berry compote in the barcelona french toast make for an excellent savory sweet combo. great brunch spot
Stopped by for a late weekend lunch -- they were really busy, even around 1:30 or 2, but fortunately our group of 5 only had to wait around 15 minutes to get seated. The place is pretty spacious with a decent amount of seating, but is apparently quite popular so I hear there's always a queue at peak times. Everything we ordered was so delicious. The french toast was fluffy and sweet without being too heavy. The crepes we got (Bristol, super belgium, Ottawa egg platter) were both super yummy. Turkey meat in the Bristol crepe was juicy and so flavourful, and the brie in the Ottawa one was just such a wonderful complement to the eggy omelette. All the fruits (blueberries, strawberries, bananas), either on the crepes or in the side order, were so fresh. Service was a bit slow (understandable due to how busy it was) but otherwise friendly and helpful. Price point was great for everything we ordered. I'd love to come back in the future :)
I love cafe Moulin! It is my go to breakfast spot in Pittsburgh. This was my 3rd visit in about a year and half and the food did not disappoint. The crepes and side salad are awesome. But the star of the show for me is the Shakshouka. I have gotten it the last 2 times I went. You also have to try their Dirty Chai. My only critique is the hostess at the front. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
Came here on a Saturday for lunch around noon. For a table for two, we waited about 30 minutes. You have to be present in the restaurant so they can call your name when the table is ready even though it is very cramped around the door. We ordered some crepes and they were delicious! So flavorful and savory with large portions. The Dubai chocolate was very exciting, pistachio on the inside with chocolate on the outside. The service was a bit disappointing, our server never came around besides to take our order and give the bill. Other than that, we had to track down employees to fill up our water. There is street parking near the restaurant and a paid parking lot in the back.
Service was really quick even with how busy they were. Food came out fast and service was very flexible with us given the size of our party. Ambiance was a bit loud inside but it makes sense for how crowded it was. Food felt fresh and was worth the wait
After waiting for about an hour we were able to sit and eat. We had our toddler with us and they were b Very accommodating! The space is small and was a little hard to walk between tables especially with how busy there were. The inside is cute and the decor is fun. Bathroom do having changing table. We ordered the yogurt parfait, avocado toast, and the chicken shawarma.
Everything about this place was very good! The inside was lovely decorated, with nice outside lighting. The service was speedy and everyone was really nice. The food was yummy! I've never had a crepe quite like this. My white mocha was also very tasty.
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the fresh and flavorful food, cozy and vibrant ambiance, and good drink selection.

The food is not bad but also not impressive. Would recommend it's Tivoli if you like Italian food -- it was yummy. Wouldn't recommend the Ottawa because it was bland. Unfortunately doesn't plan to come back. One last note is that the rating is based on San Francisco food scene standards / haven't tried a lot of varieties in Pittsburgh, but the Geppetto Cafe in Pittsburgh in my standards was 5/5. read more

Cafe Moulin is the perfect spot to get a quick brunch with friends. Only sad thing is it's gotten more expensive over the years. I also like how their menu has some original items, especially recommend here if you are tired of the same old brunch food. Their crepes are always good, nothing too fancy but they have consistency in quality. As my friend puts it, "homemade vibe but Instagram styled brunch." My favorite savory crepe is the Alaska. The herb cream they have in the crepe is so good. Service is fast, and I often come here in between classes. read more

My friend and I stopped by after a morning shopping nearby. We were hungry and decided to try one sweet cheesecake crepe and one savory one called the Bristol. Both were delicious and good quality. The seating area was nice and the music was perfect for our brunch. Thanks for great time! read more

Great breakfast spot in Pittsburgh. We had to wait about 10 min on a busy Sunday morning for an outdoor spot. The staff was friendly and accommodating to us as we had brought our 13 mon year old kiddo with us. I had the Amsterdam French Toast. The sausage was incredible and the French Toast was good. My wife had the Bristol Crepe and that stole the show. Absolutely delicious. We had two iced lattes. My wife had the vanilla and I had just a regular. The vanilla was a little too sweet. The regular with oat milk was delicious. read more

Cafe Moulin is a perfect brunch spot with your friends! The inside is fun and cute and it's perfectly placed around plenty of places to shop. The chai lattes was one of the better ones I've had if you enjoy your drinks sweet (I do), and everyone loved their crepes. I ordered the one with Salmon (The Alaskan?) and it was perfectly balanced and delicious, adding the avocado is worth it. The bathroom was also very cute and tidy. The place was very busy when we arrived but despite that, our host and server were both patient and very nice and overall seemed like cool people. The vibe here is great, the prices are good too especially with the quality and amount of food, I for sure recommend! read more

Cafe Moulin serves up some truly enjoyable breakfast and brunch options! The lox toast is my go-to; the tomatoes are fresh and the sauce they come with is outstanding. eggs are a bit thick for my taste, but the dish is still a zinger! The bustling cafe atmosphere is complemented by a vibrant roaster mural that I think is just so fun to look at and intriguing wall decor that adds character to the space. Service can be a tad slow, likely due to the constant crowd. Not very prompt about refilling our empty carafe. While the attention from staff isn't always prompt, the overall experience is quite satisfying. read more

I love crepes, and Café Moulin did not disappoint. Although I love sweet crepes, sometimes you need something savory to really satisfy your hunger. I opted for the Ottawa which is filled with eggs and brie and topped with bacon. It's the perfect breakfast crepe! I ordered my food for delivery so I didn't visit the actual café so I can't comment on the ambiance or service, but from a food perspective it's a solid choice. I'd happily dine here in the future. read more

Cafe moulin is one of my favorite brunch spots off walnut street in Shadyside. It has a cute coffee job ambiance and I love their chai. If you don't like sweet drinks you may not like it though. For breakfast, I got the eggie veggie toast which came with a side salad. I found this toast to be kind of dry and definitely needed ketchup/hot sauce. But I generally get the crepes which are much better. If you are thinking of getting the eggie veggie toast, definitely ask for a sauce like harissa or aioli. The service also pretty quick and helpful. read more

Cafe mounlin is an amazing brunch spot. Not a lot of places have crepe for brunch but this place has a huge variety of both savory and sweet crepes. I ended up trying one of each and they did not disappoint. We got the bristol crepe with eggs and it was so yummy. The crepe is thin and had a nice texture. The combination of turkey, avocado, and egg is amazing. It was also so thick and satisfying to eat. For the sweet crepe, we opted for the super belgium. There was so so much cookie spread and dark chocolate. It was literally a dessert but again so yummy and satisfying. As a Californian I thought the prices were great and the portions were big. The restaurant itself was so cute and had good service too. Given all the unique crepes, I definitely would come back and try something new. read more
This is one of my favorite crepe places in Pittsburgh! They're now on the first floor and is using the basement for storage. It has similar decor, but the previous basement eating area definitely had more charm. Nevertheless, it is still a really cute space for a cafe. We came for brunch on a sat, and there was a bit of a wait. Get there before 11am to avoid the crowd. We had the super Belgium and Alaska crepes. The super Belgium had the Belgium cookie spread that went so well with everything else. The Alaska crepe was also really yummy combining pesto, spinach and smoked salmon. My friend and I shared both crepes and it was a perfect sweet/savory balance. It did take a little longer than normal to get our food, but the service was great. read more

The key, I've realized, is expectation. After four years of attending school in Pittsburgh and hearing so much about Cafe Moulin but never going for myself, I had real high expectations when coming during my last week of school... which probably turned out to be my downfall. When I order a crepe what I'm looking for is that crunch factor. It can be as filled as it wants to be but the crepe itself better be toasty in order to add a little texture to it. I ended up ordering the Bristol crepe and added an egg for brunch vibes. The crepe wasn't bad, but it was sorely lacking the crunch factor. The worst of it was that it looked like it was going to have the crunch factor and then... it didn't. It was a very rude Crepe Tease. I have to say, though, the crepe was filled to the brim with stuff. Definitely didn't hold back on the avocado or egg. I was super pleased with the serving size that I got for the price! read more
Second time here! Highly recommend I was there for a Saturday brunch, the line was long lol about 25min wait but that's okay, because food was great! We had the Ottawa Crepe, the one with omelette and bacon, which is very special. if you haven't got something like this before, definitely give it a try! Also the Bristol crepe - with avocado and Turkey and Béchamel sauce in it (I added egg white) - delicious as always. read more

Cafe Moulin was fantastic! I highly recommend arriving early, as it gets quite busy later in the day. The Liege Toast is a must-try, offering the perfect balance of savory and sweet. We also split one of their crepes, and it was just as impressive! The staff were also super friendly and accommodated. We had a party of 6 plus our dog for outdoor seating!! read more

We grabbed brunch at Cafe Moulin before my mom headed back to Chicago, and we decided to go to Cafe Moulin since we haven't been here in so long! I got the Sofia Crepe, which comes with eggs, Turkish sausage, a spicy sauce, and some fresh fruit! It is always so good and if you are a savory person, this is definitely a good option! My mom got the Lox toast, which was presented beautifully and was very filling according to her! My girlfriend got the Avocado toast which is always a good option here! I love how it comes with bacon too! The service here was wonderful as we were continuously being checked on to see if we needed more water, coffee, and anything else to enhance our dining experience! It's such a cute little place in Shadyside, and you definitely feel like part of the family when you dine here! read more

The location gets super packed on weekends and I can see why. The space is cute and service is quick. I opted for one of the Walnut St crepes, which was good but a little too heavy on the sweet toppings for my liking. The prices run a little high, but the quality of the food is good. Wasn't a home run for me, but solid 3.5 option in the area. read more

This place is amazing. My husband and I sat at the bar since we like talking to bartenders and we got their recommendations. They recommended the Super Belgian crepe and I'm so glad they did. It was INCREDIBLE. The cookie sauce inside the crepe combined with the dark chocolate on top with banana and strawberry is like a party in my mouth. Not too sweet, just right. I got a side of bacon as well and it was perfectly crispy. I will be in a great mood all day because of this place! read more
