I typically would not review a coffee shop, but in the town of my birthplace (Pittsburgh), and a…read moreshop named Yinz Coffee, I had to try it out! I'm a Starbucks aficionado, almost always going to the chain when I want a coffee. I've been grinding their beans every morning for years. I was looking for a Starbucks, couldn't find one, and then Yinz Coffee appeared! For those of you not familiar with the 'yinz' term, it's a Pittsburgh word for 'you all', 'you guys', 'y'all', etc. Ex. "Are yinz going to the Steeler game". It's great they have a coffee shop named after the unique phrase. I ordered a latte and immediately noticed the difference in coffee flavor from Starbucks. It's a delicious refreshing change - so good in fact, that I bought a bag of the House Blend (Columbian beans)! I don't visit my hometown very often, but when I do, I'll be looking for the Yinzer Nation's coffee shop!!

Idk The place is not as clean as it could be, such as the bathroom, and some of the chairs need to be wiped off or completely replaced as they are stained and have an odor. I would not get any beverages from here unless it's sealed. The hours fluctuate often. I have made one too many trips during the weekday, weekend, daytime or afternoon to find the door locked. And I'm not aware that there's communication given ahead of time about their fluctuating hours for the given day. If you need to get your fix from a book, just buy it because there's no guarantee you can read it the next time you plan to.

I wish they listed the descriptions of what the flavors are for the signature drinks though so I don't have to bother the staff on what each thing actually is while it's busy. The pastries here all looked great with different flavors, I liked the Pecan Cherry scone a lot, with actual cherries mixed in! It is vegan and gf, which means the texture is definitely very different from traditional pastries, but one of the best vegan ones I've ever had. Excited to come back and try more!

After walking around the neighborhood, this one had seating, so we went inside. First, I'll say the coffee we tried was pretty good - a cappuccino and a brown sugar cinnamon latte. The barista asked "for here or to go" and the drinks still came in a paper cup anyway despite us saying "for here". I really enjoy having a coffee in an actual glass/mug when I say "for here". The ambiance was a bit confusing... not really sure what they were going for in the space, things were a bit choppy and thrown together. Kinda felt like you were in someone's garage with cluttered items on rickety shelves behind the counter. Our barista was very nice, but an awkward moment occurred when they were ringing us up - barista asked for a tip but then told us not to put the tip on the credit card because the owner steals from them. We felt this was a little uncomfortable and gave some unwelcoming energy. We also tried a Nutella croissant, which was very good! I think this shop has a lot of potential with some changes to service and decor.
