Once new ownership had been in place for a while, I decided to finally try the Cafe as it's the closest breakfast spot of any kind to my home. I was not disappointed. And judging by rhe good-sized crowd, many of my neighbors also like this place. Very pleasant and friendly atmosphere and staff. Fair prices and sizeable portions. Solid java, properly cooked eggs and potatoes and English muffins. The sausage was clearly homemade and tasted excellent, even if a bit of char on the crust, but heck I LOVE BBQ, burnt-ends, blackened catfish, etc., so if that's the way the Chef wants it, I'll reorder with confidence on my next vist. I don't recommend trying to bring more than a four-top, as the space is cozy. There's a fine place on the Dam Road if you have a crowd with you. But if you're a solo diner, a couple or even a threesome (!) this is the place for you for a relaxing, quick, hearty, friendly and hot breakfast. Next I'll need to try lunch. First time but won't be the last. What a friendly and cute environment. We ate in doors. The place is quite small but was very clean. The server was amazing and the food was piping hot and delish. Had no left overs. Ate the plate clean. Had the twin omelet, Leon scramble, hash browns, bagel with cream cheese, sourdough toast and a waffle. No complaints. Just all smiles when we left. Tired of the same-o same-o for breakfast, we checked out this neighborhood cafe. The owner is a very nice lady who took our order. We both had the two egg breakfast - I ordered the linguisa, DH had bacon. We both ordered our eggs over easy. She asked if he wanted his bacon crispy and he replied "not too crisp". She also asked if we wanted our potatoes crispy, and we said ok. We did not wait too long before our food came. My linguisa was well cooked, not too greasy. The bacon was a little too crisp for hubby's taste - they seemed to shatter with every bite. Our order for eggs over easy resulted in solid yolks, and the potatoes were seriously crunchy - I could hear DH chewing across the table. I guess that's what "crisp" means. I don't know, maybe we just ordered the "wrong" thing for breakfast. It wasn't until after we finished eating that we noticed a sign on the wall stating there was an additional 1$ being applied to the prices on the menu. Sure enough, when our tab came, the prices reflected an additional 1$ per order. For my taste, their food doesn't do it for me. But if you like crispy, crunchy and well done sausage and eggs, you may well love this place. read more

We went there for the first time today for breakfast before going to the A's game. What a wonderful start to our day! The place is clean and inviting. There was one lady, 3 young girls and a gentleman in the kitchen. They worked together efficiently and quietly. Everyone was very pleasant. And the food was excellent! Very fresh ingredients. I had the Crab Avocado Toast and my husband had the Meat Lover's Omelet. Both dishes were delicious and the portions were generous. Coffee was hot and good. The menu is impressive with lots to choose from. They have daily specials as well as a "Secret Menu." It is small but did not feel crowded. I've lived in the neighborhood for 27 years . This this is one of those local spots that I just never made the time to stop at. This past weekend my BF and I decided it was finally time. I had heard so many rave reviews, I really had high hopes. I'm not trying to sound overly dramatic but what a major disappointment! We arrived at about 12:30 on Sunday afternoon. With the exception of one, EVERY TABLE was covered in dirty dishes. The hostess half-heartedly waved us to the one clean table. No less than 4 employees were lazily hanging around making NO ATTEMPT to bus the tables. Only when two more customers arrived was a table cleared. We watched as these young women walked by these filthy tables again and again and again empty-handed, without clearing a plate. Only when another woman came out from the kitchen to help did they make any attempt to clean up. Although the food was fine, trying to eat while looking at all these partially eaten meals was less than appetizing. I can easily go another 27 years without returning. read more

So I have passed by this place 1000 times and recently started hearing about it so since I was in the neighborhood and where I wanted to go didn't open until 11 and my stomach was growling I stopped at cafe mcbryde. When I walked in I seen a table of SPD and another table with RPd so I almost turned around but I was too hungry and had no reason to be afraid of the police. Always try find some local gems when traveling, and this small Cafe did not disappoint! Food arrived promptly, server checked on us multiple time. My husband had the chicken fried steak, not overly breaded and not hard as a rock. So tender in his words... you can cut it with a look. I tried the corned beef hash scramble with veggies. Excellent. Richmond is one of the most diverse cities in the country, but you might now know it from driving down one of its main thoroughfares. San Pablo Avenue in Richmond is, like so many streets in the country, dotted with strip malls, gas stations, and nail salons. Hidden about three doors east of San Pablo Avenue, on McBryde, sits a true hidden gem, Cafe McBryde. It's a family restaurant, in that the owner treats everyone like family (and her wonderful daughters work there part-time). The food is always fresh (not frozen) and delicious. Denise, the owner, adds new items regularly. I love the veggie omelettes and the turkey burgers. She makes her own turkeys, year around. None of that processed turkey. You have to try the spicy turkey omelette. The decor is clean and charming, but not pretentious. I have been a little hesitant to post this review because Cafe McBryde is small. We selfishly want to keep it to ourselves, but after reading a review that doesn't even seem like it's from the restaurant we frequent, I had to post this. read more

When I entered I was not greeted for a while and when we finally sat down we did not get menus for quite some time either. I had to catch the waitress and say ok we are ready to order as she didn't come back to us for a while to take our order. I am super into this place. I kinda hinted to my two small daughters that we would get pancakes for dinner, and they immediately jumped to the conclusion that we were going to IHOP, which -- I could see how they got that, but oh god, how my soul wilted at the idea of going to IHOP. Anywho, so I remembered my husband had recommended this place, since it's "breakfast all day!" and he can imagine no greater feat for a restaurant to accomplish. Well. So we walk in and my 3 year old realizes this is NOT IHOP and pitches a fit. Ohhhh noooo I am THAT MOM. I tell her "oh honey this is better than IHOP! it's owned by real people!" and she will have none of it so I deposit her at an outdoor table where I can keep an eye on her and hope for the best. First of all, the owner and his wife were SO sweet. They acted like the "better than IHOP" line was the best thing they'd heard all day, and they took turns going outside to peer at my daughter and encourage her to come inside. Once she finally did, they were so sweet and (at my request) put a smiley face on her pancake with whipped cream, and watched like she was their own grandchild as she devoured it. Props to the other customers, too, who were all really sweet about it and chuckled rather than glaring at me. I love you, other customers! Anyway so then I glance up at the wall and WHAT to my wondering eyes should appear but oh dear god a bowl of bebimbap. I was like "You make bebimbap?" The guy was like "of course!" I was like "In the hot stone bowl?" and he was like "If that's how you want it!" and I was like BRING ME THAT RIGHT NOW FOR TO PUT IN MY FACE! and he was like ok! and in very short order I was eating some PERFECT bebimbap, the meat marinated to a tender sweetness, the egg raw until I stirred it into the steaming rice while my daughters looked on in awe-mazement. I was all "I am become BREAKFAST EATER" and I ate the shit out of that bebimbap. Stupid me, I had been hauling my butt all the way over to Solano for my korean rice bowl fix. No more. *Relax and Eat here* This is my place to relax, read my weekend newspaper, and of course eat a delicious breakfast in a small, quiet, comfortable, and friendly hole in the wall joint Cafe. Having this cafe across the street from my place is such a convenience it makes me want to eat there every weekend. I ordered 2 eggs with hash browns, thick slice of ham with wheat toast and a large glass of orange juice. I sat by the window, looked at the 10/11am drivers on a Saturday morning getting gas at the ARCO gas station across the street on the corner; and casually read my West County Times newspaper - Saturday edition lol. Yup. This place has an old school mom and pop cafe/diner feel to it and i wouldn't doubt that it's family ran and/or owned. The waitress was really nice and made me feel like i had been coming there for years when I've only been there only 3 times in my life. Now it's my understanding that this place has been there for years but I've only known about the cafes' existence for about 4 years now. I give this place 4 out of 5 stars only because they only take cash. They haven't updated there system yet to take ATM/Debit cards yet, and I'm sure they don't plan on it anytime soon unfortunately. I decided to travel by car from Seattle to Los Angeles for the holidays. Sounds crazy, but after all the travel I've been doing recently, I couldn't imagine kenneling my poor dog YET AGAIN--he had been in the kennel longer in the last month than he had been at home with me. So... road trip with the puppy! Fortunately for me, my brother resides in SF, giving me a pretty convenient mid-point to spend the night. I mean, I suppose I could've driven straight through, but I'd wind up losing a day recovering. Blah. Might as well take it easy, and get some rest in the middle. On my way back North, I again stayed in SF. I left in the morning, got myself across the bridge and past what I figured would be the worst points of traffic, and dangerously searched for breakfast spots whilst speeding on the highway. This place popped up, I mapped it, and exited. Gassed up nearby, pulled in, gave Carson some treats, and headed in. It's not the prettiest place, or the fanciest, and definitely not the largest, but it IS warm and welcoming. The gal good morning'd me, and had a pot of coffee in hand at my table as I was sitting down. She had no problem filling up my travel mug, and dropped a menu off as she moved off to take care of other folks. I found myself a veggie omelet on the menu, retrieved an Oakland newspaper, and faster than I could read an article had my breakfast in front of me. The fruit dish seemed fresh, the omelet hit the spot, and I discovered that things in Oakland seem just as dark and dismal as things in Los Angeles, Seattle, and just about everywhere else I've been. Which isn't surprising, considering bad news sells. I paid up, and the waitress still topped off my travel mug for the road. That rocked! I just don't understand! I read all of the reviews for this restaurant and I'm just not seeing what everyone else is. I was turned off as soon as we received our water. I lifted it up to drink it and couldn't. Both mine and my boyfriend's cups had a ridiculously strong garlicky smell, and that says something because my sense of smell is terrible. I feel like it may have been washed in very, very dirty dish water. I didn't drink the water the entire time I was there and suffered through thirst. My boy and I both ordered waffles, which I found a little dense, and he ordered fries (who eats fries with waffles??) which I'm sure I could find in the frozen section of any grocery store. My bacon also came out on burnt. Crispy bacon is fine. Burnt? Eh, not so much. Our waffles with bacon were $9 each and I feel like I could have gotten more food for less money elsewhere.
