    FILIPINO UBE PANCAKES
    Megan Y.

Went because we saw pictures of ube pancakes (which were delicious). Ordered things off the Saturday specials menu, I got the tilapia, friend got the truffle fried chicken sandwich. All amazing. The restaurant is tiny but cute. And service is quick and efficient. Looking at the menu while waiting for your table can expedite the process.

I heard its the owners 5th anniversary here this weekend! Congratulations! Thank you for making good food to cure hungry tummies

Ordered for pick up and made it just before they closed thank goodness. The ube pancakes and the ube sauce were delicious and when we opened the box it was one of those feelings of excitement because the food tasted as good as it looked. We will definitely be back to this place. It's a pretty small restaurant and the ambiance seemed more casual. The service over the phone was very nice and they didn't rush me which I appreciate.

The ube pancakes were described as fluffy, but they were soggy and didn't taste like ube at all. They were also splitting apart, which I've never seen in a pancake before. The French toast was good though. IMO, only the American food part of the menu is good. The Filipino food/Filipino fusion part is a pass for me. But maybe I'm biased because I'm Filipino. The server was not very attentive, and messed up the order. I ordered the French toast, and the server asked if I wanted a 2 piece or a 3 piece. I said three. She came back with 3 orders of French toast. Like ma'am, what do I look like eating 3 orders of French toast? Thankfully, after explaining to her that I ordered 3 pieces and not 3 orders, she said okay and took 2 of the orders back. I felt bad for her. She looked very stressed because she was the only server in the whole restaurant. Having more people on their staff would help them a lot.

Don't skip out on this hole in the wall breakfast place. My cousin took me here for breakfast and it was delicious. It is a cute small family owned restaurant. The adobo pork belly, I would say was my favorite. The crispiness and flavor it had really hit the spot. We also just added a side of longanisa and putting those together was a perfect match. We did wish that the Tilapia was a bit more crispier but it was still good. I am more of a savory type of girl when it comes to breakfast, but I have a soft spot for Ube. I am very Filipino and love trying ube flavor things. It believe it was a mochi ube pancake because it was not the traditional pancake with ube flavoring. We got there pretty early at 10am and we got seated right away and did not wait for our food that long. I would say about 10:30, they had their waiting list piling up. I would say there was a good 3 or 4 families waiting. What I loved was that they didn't rush us to leave. I think my cousin's and I were there for maybe an hour and a half or less. They were great.

A hole in a wall brunch eatery. Service is great and prompt. I had the adobo pork belly 9/10 with over easy eggs and rice. Pork belly was crunchy and so full of flavor with each bite. There's a sauce over the rice and eggs that was pretty good. The Ube Pancakes were a 8/10 Pretty yummy with the ube sauce and the fruits were delicious. Denver omelet was so big I had to help my son eat it all. So scrumptious. I would definitely return. I live about 30mins away from this amazing brunch spot.

FILIPINO UBE PANCAKES, Brisket and Eggs, & their special of the month "Adobo Pork Belly Benedict"
    Lesa G.

Quiet literally one of the best breakfasts I've had in a while. The garlic fried rice with the Benedict was simple but such a nice change up from the standard potato or salad option most places give. The UBE PANCAKES HERE THO??? I've tried so many ube pancakes at this point in the bay. The syrup here isn't your standard maple syrup. It's ube infused and so much better! My man enjoyed his brisket and appreciated they considered giving him the hollandaise on the side. He ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and hollandaise atop doesn't sound good either. Bonus point for thinking about that while we didn't. No wait time on a Sunday morning (11AM). It's a small place and I'm afraid IG is gonna blow this place up soon. Can't wait to dine again!

Love the old school diner vibes. Sat the at counter. Staff were great, really helpful and kind. Order the ube French toast. And it was good! Got a little messy but that's how you know it's good. Always appreciate the fruits with a French toast just because it does get a little heavy and the fruit just lightens it up. Would order again.

Sue's Place is a real gem within the Pinole community, and I will never stop singing its praises. I stumbled upon Sue's just maybe a little under a year ago when looking for a breakfast place. Finally decided to try it out, and it was the best food decision I've made in a long time. Sue's is a breakfast and lunch spot, with Filipino inspiration in many of their dishes. Over the last few months, I've gotten things with longanisa, garlic rice, ube, spam, mango... and every single one has been incredible. These dishes are genuinely made with love and passion, and it translates into the food. Additionally, they're always cycling through fun specials. I've yet to have one that isn't amazing. My personal favorite is the longanisa silog, a staple menu item. It comes with longanisa, eggs your way, garlic rice, and pickled veggies. It's a wholesome meal that hits the spot. Additionally, the portions are always huge! You definitely get your money's worth and then some. The service is great. I usually got on a Saturday, and there are usually two women that we see every time. They've begun to recognize us, and it feels nice to be a "regular" at a place where they get to know their customers. I also always hear them calling other regulars by their names and making an effort to speak and check in on them like they're friends. It shows they truly care about the work they do. The inside is small and cozy. They have a counter space to sit at, booths, and some tables. The decor is interesting, in a good way, with mural on the wall that appears to depict a scene from an older time. Very cute! Overall, Sue's is a gift to Pinole and its citizens. One of the best spots not just in Pinole, but all of the Bay Area.

Bistec Silog w/ sunny side up eggs
    Alice Y.

3 stars for the food, rounded up to 3.5 for service. Portions were large, and everyone was very friendly. Note the 50 cent charge if paying with credit card. Parking was either on the street or in a small shared lot with police. The cafe was busy on a Friday at 10:30 am, but we were seated immediately. I wanted the corned beef hash, but they just sold out. There was a different pancake special than the one I had my eye on (they change the menu daily). You can check their Facebook for the day's specials. I ended up having some of the silog plates. The food was on the blander side, but not completely lacking in flavor. It didn't leave us feeling heavy, which was nice. - Bistec Silog ($19). The beef and onions were marinated in a sauce that was savory, sour, and slightly sweet. My bf got the two eggs sunny side up. I enjoyed the fluffy texture of the garlic rice. It was lightly salted, not oily, and mild in garlic flavor. - Salmon Silog Daily Special ($20). I liked this one better. The salmon was flaky and had a wonderful crust. It was topped with red onion and fresh cherry tomato.

I did a Grubhub order yesterday and they didn't have 2 items on their menu. The pancake special and pork chop special. They need to update their menu accordingly if they are going to use that service. The worker lady that called me to tell me they didn't have 2 of the items was a bit rude about it when I told her the app said there was a note that said the restaurant could adjust the price due to the special and she said they couldn't. The special was French toast and not pancakes, but I don't see why they still couldn't just adjust the price, it's still under as a special. They need to take these things off the menu on Grubhub if these don't even exist or if they can't modify the price, like it says. So I said just cancel the order and I'll just order over the phone for pick up. I got the special Ube French toast, Bistek silog (not on Grubhub) and Triple Hog silog. When I got the food at home there was a long piece of hair camouflaged in the syrup of the ube French toast. I threw that out and wasted $17 and didn't want to eat anything else. I was planning to go here with my friends next time, but after that hair in my food and the way over priced silogs $22 and $26. I will not be back and will not recommend this place. I was trying to support this Filipino business, but customer service needs more training and food hygiene is an issue.

Finally tried the Filipino Ube-Coconut pancakes I've been wanting to try these pancakes for a while now. They're huge! The Ube syrup is really nice touch! I did miss butter on my pancakes though. These pancakes are super good!!!

First off, portions are huge. Love their silogs and the many protein options they offer such as bangus, longanisa etc. Second, not only do they offer breakfast plates but they have sooo many other entree options that seem to rotate daily. It ranges from chicken adobo, to dinuguan, all the way to kare kare and much more. Lastly, they have tons of filipino dessert options spread across shelves on the walls for those who love their carbs and sweets. For 3 breakfast plates, and XL entree, one juice and chicharron, we paid a total of $88 (not including tip). Pretty pricey overall but dang did we buss down on the plates when we got home LOL. Love Cabalen as well as all the workers. They're all very sweet and helpful! Their portions are decent but prices might be on the high side. Everyone there is always friendly and welcoming though. They used to have more seating but now they have just one table inside because they made space for a couple of refrigerators and a shelf for bread. It's a tiny place and there's no outdoor seating so not really a place where you can sit and eat unless you get lucky and arrive early and no one is sitting at the table. I especially like ordering the big platter of Shanghai lumpia for parties with friends or for my child's classroom (it's always a hit with everyone young and old).. my only gripe is the timing of pick up. I used to order over the phone right when they open all the time but 100% of my orders are never ready at the specified time. Even though I give a specified time for pick up I end up waiting at least 10-15 minutes more after the time I requested. I thought maybe it was because I was ordering over the phone and not paying until I get to the restaurant for pick up later in the afternoon so thought I'd try ordering in person, paying up front and giving a pick up time for a few hours later. We arrived a few minutes early and they actually didn't have it ready and I, unfortunately, still waited a little bit. In any case, the wait is usually worth it but if I'm extremely pressed for time I think I would call ahead of time to let them know I was coming to pick up.

I can't help you. You should call next time" little did she know, I DID call before I arrived. We asked politely "can you please help us and take our order." Rolled her eyes and took our order with annoyance. During this order, she made smirk comments "that's a weird way to spell a name"-- (it's a very simple name, only 3 letters). Then I pointed out a design of a cake in their binder and told her we don't need the toys. Im just interested in the border design and colors. She said "we can't make it". This order was for a first birthday, so I asked if they bake a free smash cake. They said "No" I showed the google results the Safeway and Lucky has this offer. They proceeded with "No, sorry" which is fine. I continued with my order and selected a design they can make. Fast forward 5 days later. Refund went smoothly in the customer service department. No questions. No issues. Walked over to the bakery dept to let them know I cancelled my cake order. No one in the bakery to be found.
