I'm not gonna pay again more then 14 dollar for 4 conchitas and a bag of polborones this irs crazy because I remember in the beginning the bread was normal size! The bakery items all taste great. I have gone a few times to sample several items. They also recently started baking a pan dulce called pico which is hard to find anywhere. It's also hard to find a tasty version of it that's not dry. They do an amazing job at preserving the flavors and highlighting the ingredients in their baked. The staff is always friendly. The interior is clean and well lit with plenty of seating. Parking isn't an issue because they have their own parking lot. I have never eaten there, but I plan to and will update my review when I do. read more

Casual breakfast with my boys, we stopped by and ordered off the Spanish/English menu. Both boys are taking Spanish and weee encouraged to order in Spanish. The waitperson was great and very patient. The food was fun. I ordered the egg and bean plate which came with corn tortillas that were off the hook - thick and soft. The plate had a healthy scoop of black refried beans, eggs, cojita cheese and crema. We also had a sausage and egg scramble and a chicken sandwich on a soft roll that was eaten very quickly! The breakfast we got here almost made us cry tears of joy. My partner is Honduran and we're always looking for CentAm food. The restaurant is bright and spacious and has that fresh bread panaderia smell. This spot has simple dishes with some kind of magic added to make them miraculously good. This was a cute spot that my husband pointed out because he wanted to get some bread. I passed it because I thought it was a church, but it wasn't one. The inside was cute and they have a nice menu. The people working there were very nice. I couldn't have the bread, but we ordered some tamales. They were different than the ones that I usually eat and that was a turn-off for me. We ordered one pork and one chicken. They were bigger than expected, but the masa was super soft. I know that's because I'm used to Mexican tamales and the texture is different. They had an OK salsa on them. I don't think that I'll be back, unless my husband wants some more bread. read more

I'm hooked! Panadería Universal is a welcoming, open, comfortable space to enjoy true Guatemalan foods. The staff is consistently attentive and helpful. What I like about coming here is that the bread and food are delicious. The food is prepared true to authentic recipes--so many I eat here because I want to eat meals I had at home or when I got the chance to visit family in Guatemala. The bread is also notable. well, for starters the coffee is watery, they serve it and put reg milk on it. not good. :( i decided tontey the food and ordered the torta with asada. which i though was going to be good and NOTHING. just meat tomatoes and sour cream plain bread. nothing out of the ordinary . then the breakfast is also plain beans and egg and some kind of red salsa without flavor. the place it self is really nice and service is ok. but its just not what i though it would be. shame to waste such a good location and spot for a meal I couldve made at home. not impressed. they need a real cook/chef and a real barista with xperience to make this place shine. oh and latin music . not christian music which was playing really loud on the background people couldnt even chat. to the owner hey Inhave some good ideas and will make your place shine like never before. lol read more

My favorite spot for Guatemalan bread, "Pan Dulce Chapin". Their breakfast sandwiches are a quick breakfast option. I usually order "Pan con todo- el huevo con tomate y cebolla y plátanos al lado", but other items are great too. The service is quick, you pay first, and they call you when your food is ready. Great new spot! The service was great and staff were very friendly. There's a few places to sit down and eat inside. Their bread is baked fresh in house. My husband and I tried the Pan con Todo con Asada. The bread had a very freshly baked taste and light and fluffy. The scrambled eggs were cooked to perfection without being overly cooked or runny. The carne asada was chopped into small piece and had a great taste. We also tried the taquitos de pollo which were good and the stole the plátano which was amazing especially for a cold day. Ordered like everything since I've never had food from Guatemala. All that food woulda been an easy $100 in the city but got it for half that. I did not get the dudes name who helped me but he did great recommending what I should try with it being my first time. He recommended a pastry called a quesadilla and reminded me a lot of Filipino bibinka. It's made with rice flour, cheese and it's got a nice crystallized sugary crust on top. Delicious! Had to refrain from eating the whole thing since I had a few sandwiches on the way. Also had a couple of the empanada looking pastries that had more of a cookie style dough, one with a pineapple filling, the other with a cheesy, custard style filling. So good. Got a few of the pan con todos and everything in it from the soft fresh baked bread, the Mexican style scrambled eggs (had chopped tomatoes, onions and peppers), the nice soft cool cheese made the whole thing just change your life. Ambiance was nice, modern, spacious and clean!...even the bathroom. Guatemalan breakfast is a new favorite. Very lucky to have this spot open up in the area. I was looking for a Guatemalan restaurant that also sold pan dulce. My mom was visiting from Guatemala and asked if there was a yummy place to eat traditional Guatemalan dishes. We decided to come here to try a new place. We ordered the pan con longaniza, one tostada tradicional, one enchilada, horchata, and a handful of different breads. Overall it was the traditional Guatemalan cuisine we were looking for. The service was attentive and the indoor space was large, new and clean. The portions were huge, we could have easily gotten two things and it would have been enough. We loved the longaniza so much we asked if they made it in house and they did. The food was delicious . I was so hungry and excited to eat I forgot to take pictures. The bread is so fresh, fluffy on the inside and a light toast on the outside. My husband and I both ordered the pan con todo, desayuno de Chuchitos and a side of plátanos. The chuchito plate had a delicious tomato sauce that I wanted to eat with everything.
