2nd time visiting New Life cafe. Sandwiches are so good, HUGE, and fresh. I am currently going in on my sandwich. Please go and try them out.

This place is open! Lovely little restaurant in Central Richmond's Iron Triangle neighborhood on Harbour Way. They have tasty lunch bowls they call Vondi bowls to pay homage to Mama Vondi. The service was quick and the price reasonable. Best of all this restaurant serves the community. There is an upstairs area used to train local youth and future chefs. Highly recommend for their tasty bowls and for supporting those that give back!

This place doesn't honor their business hours or they're closed. Either way, don't come here.

This place is either out of business or doesn't honor their business hours. Came at noon on a Monday and it was closed. Don't bother coming here.

"Forgiveness says you are given another chance to make a new beginning." -- Desmond Tutu Excellent new sandwich shop in Richmond. Opened beginning of March and it is much needed downtown. As the world reopens I see this place becoming a community focal point. I ordered grilled cheese with bacon, broccoli cream soup and red velvet cake. Loved the soup and sandwich, I think the better dessert may be the bread pudding. Everyone else was getting that. They are still getting their feet wet service wise so be patient. What's great about this business is they are a nonprofit helping Richmond youth. From their FB page: "We are NewLife Movement, a California state-recognized non-profit organization and official partner of the City of Richmond, operating directly out of John F. Kennedy Park. Our Mission is to serve our community by ,"Engaging criminal and disadvantaged minds and helping them become successful law-abiding citizens" . We believe we can achieve in our mission mostly by meeting those in need in the very streets we mean to change. For us to continue to succeed in these goals we must further build positive mentor relationships and continue to provide the following three skill building programs: 1. Reactions - Working directly with Kennedy High School students, we train them in responding positively to different situations or in areas of conflict. NewLife Movement staff engage youth through role play, coaching and powerful guest speakers who provoke positive thinking. Students will learn skills to help them make better decisions currently and are nurtured to use their new skills to build their futures. 2. Partner Up - NewLife Movement reaches out to local businesses and connects them to our students that are in search of work experience. The "Partner Up" program is designed to help members of NewLife and local businesses create a supportive job shadowing atmosphere. Students will devote 2 - 4 hours per day as interns or as we call them, "Youth partners," completing tasks and building needed job skills. 3. Youth Safety - Newlife Movement is committed to providing a positive presence and a safe passage throughout the city of Richmond with a main focus in John F. Kennedy Park and the nearby neighborhoods. We discourage youth truancy, both at Kennedy High and Martin L. King Elementary as a positive vocal and physical presence in the park that sets between the schools. It is the mission of the segment of NewLife to help ensure that our young people have a safe and resourceful park to play in, and positive role models encouraging their growth and well-being." Support your local black owned businesses, we all need to rise up and we can all do it together. Highly recommended

Parking can be a bit tricky as they don't have their own parking lot, so street parking only. Majority of seating is outdoors but shaded. They really put a lot of time and dedication to the ambiance. They do have a small parklet area if you want some more shelter. It's fast casual, so order at the window and they'll give you a buzzer that'll go off when your order is ready. I had the breakfast sandwich entree. As you can see, portion sizes are generous and the food did not disappoint! Breakfast sandwich was lightly toasted and the potatoes were well-seasoned. Customer service was a bit lacking. Had to go back to the window a couple of times to ask for stuff and felt bad having to bother them every time. Aside from that, great spot with plenty of seating for a brunch/lunch date.

When maps directed me to here, I was shocked. Stepped in there was 1 party so I said great its not busy. Alan came around and handed us menus and since my little one is into chicken or country fried steak, its the first thing I asked him when he greeted us. We've lived in Hercules for over 30 years and are creatures of habit, so it was nice to venture the 10-minute drive to San Pablo. We were not impressed by the exterior strip mall building, but the interior of Mely's is very cute, homey, and clean. (I even peeked into the kitchen since the door was open.) I wanted pancakes, but got waffles instead since W ordered the blueberry buttermilk stack. We both had a side of eggs, his scrambled and mine sunny side up. The eggs were delish; mine in particular was perfectly cooked with slightly crunchy edges, a beautiful, silky, runny yolk, and no uncooked whites. The blueberry pancakes are so good! Of course they are huge and I ate some of them in addition to my waffle. We could have split just the pancakes and been perfectly happy. They cook berries inside the homemade batter and top them with a house-made blueberry compote. Maple syrup and soft butter on the side. The waffles are crispy outside with a light, airy, center, dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. I had strawberries on the side (+$5 !!). Since I ate some of W's pancakes, we took half the waffles home. W had a drip coffee--no decalf available so I had the fresh-squeezed OJ. It was a large glass so I took half of that home, too. The coffee was nothing to rave about, but it was coffee. Service was friendly and efficient--there is only one cook and one server, and it seems several of us arrived at the same time on this Sunday morning. Overall a wonderful find that we will return to so we can explore more dishes. We saw omelets and Benedict's come out that looked amazing! Plus, I want to try the dinner menu, which also looked pretty amazing.

I had the Marina Burger. The idea of goat cheese sounded good...not on a burger, however...zero seasoning to either of our double patties, so adding whatever doesn't help...no discernible flavor other than overwhelming sloppy goat cheese. The bacon was rubbery...and interesting, also no flavor...bacon w/o flavor?! Ugh. Patties cooked fine...just nothing special. The onions were horrible - sloppy, overcooked...just unappealing. Now I ordered the garlic parm fries...these are horrid. ALL the parm and garlic was at the *bottom,* not a topping, nothing sticked to the fries. Had to eat them with a fork, scooping this non-flavorful topping up w/ the fries...and the garlic is the worst I have ever had...zero flavor, and the parm? Where? It was there, only again, zero flavor. The fries at this place are frozen and have no potato flavor *at all*...so all in all none of either of our meals had any flavor profile or layering...it was simply food...the after taste of grill - smoke flavor is yuck...unenjoyable food all around experience. Now if they say they didn't grill...where is the flavor of smoke coming from? The location is OK...band was on a break, so didn't hear them play...not too busy, but I am curious now what Golden State Kitchen not far from this place has to offer...that was my original choice... Backyard is a meh.
