This is not my first, second or third visiting this restaurant; I actually really enjoy coming here. Very often the hours don't always align with my schedule but due to my schedule being adjusted today, it was only right that I stopped by on the way home to grab some grub. My review is based on today's experience as well as every other time I have dined at Leila by the Bay. I literally have no complaints; as you can see the food was delicious. The service was great and the environment was cool, not super busy. Leila by the Bay is a good choice whether you're looking for an indoor or outdoor place to dine. When the weather permits it is really nice to sit outside and look at the water and watch the activity happening in the bay. So if given the chance stop by for a visit!

We specifically asked to have the oysters first, followed by the 1000 Layer Crispy Potatoes with caviar, and then our entrees. Instead, the potatoes arrived almost immediately. When our server saw them, she asked if the oysters had already been brought out. They hadn't, and after she went to check on them, we had a very long wait before they finally arrived. The wait between the oysters and our entrees was even longer. We were told the kitchen was running slowly because there was a wedding upstairs, which we understood. The atmosphere also felt mismatched. For such a beautiful, upscale waterfront restaurant, the fairly loud hip-hop/rap music just didn't fit the setting or the dining experience we were expecting. The food was the biggest disappointment. The oysters were excellent and easily the highlight of the meal, and the presentation throughout was beautiful. Unfortunately, the flavors didn't live up to how good the dishes looked. Nearly everything else was overly salty. My steak frites was so heavily salted that it overwhelmed the dish, and my wife had the same issue with her petrale sole. Meanwhile, other elements, including the potatoes, were surprisingly bland. We were also disappointed to discover that the lobster pot pie, a signature dish I had specifically been looking forward to and one of the reasons I booked the restaurant, was no longer on the menu. We learned that The Bungalow Kitchen is under new management and the menu had changed. I had been saving The Bungalow Kitchen for a special occasion. I never dined here under the previous Michael Mina management, so I can't fairly compare the two experiences, but this wasn't the dining experience I had envisioned when I chose it for our anniversary. It's a gorgeous space in a beautiful location, and the staff were pleasant. But at these prices, we expected the food, service and overall experience to live up to the setting. Unfortunately, ours fell well short of those expectations. Since dining here also requires a significant drive for us, the experience wasn't good enough to justify making the trip again to give it a second chance.

Located at the heart of Contra Costa College campus, a community college in San Pablo, this establishment allows culinary students to practice their skills through an assortment of appetizers, entrees, desserts, and beverages. It also allows them to get serving experience in an upscale environment. Because everyone is still learning, the menu prices reflect that. Note that per their current policies, the restaurant is currently only open for dining Tuesday-Thursday and the menu rotates season to season. We parked in the community lot, which charges $4 per car. The restaurant is a short walk away. Upon entering, we were greeted by a lovely display of all their current desserts by the door. I saw "Asian-inspired cake" and knew I had to try it. Because the prices were so alluring, especially for our hungry stomachs, we each opted to order a bread bowl, appetizer, drink, entree, and dessert to try. This is definitely a lot of food, so it might be better to not over order unless you're in a big group! But you know, life is short so no regrets. Drinks - I ordered a blueberry nojito, which is one of their bestsellers. It was divine - the blueberry mint flavor was mixed with some kind of sparking beverage and looked as good as it tasted. The lavender lemonade was just OK (I don't enjoy floral flavors as much as the avg person). Bread bowl came with 6 small breads that were fluffy and soft. They can fill you up so be aware! Appetizers - Corn croquettes and a Mediterranean-style salad. Both delicious - I loved the corn cakes in particular! Cooked perfectly with just the right amount of flavor. The salad was really refreshing - I wish there were more of it. Can't go wrong with cucumber, onion, and tomato. Entrees - I got the spaghetti with mussels and my friend got the salmon cakes. Both tasted great, though my spaghetti was a tad salty (I like my food a little saltier so it wasn't a problem). Not remarkable but the portions are generous. Desserts - This was probably the biggest disappointment as the Asian-style cake didn't feature the light spongy cake that I'm used to. They nailed the frosting, but the fruit could have been cut better. I liked the Oreo cake a lot more (better taste and presentation), though if I were to come back I would probably order a dessert other than cake. Service - Everyone was friendly, and though there was a mix-up between the entree and desserts (they took longer to cook the entrees and thus brought our desserts out first), it wasn't a big deal and as mentioned earlier, everyone's still learning. Overall, for the price and quality, I enjoyed dining here and would definitely come back even though it's a ways from where I live. Love the idea of supporting chefs in the making and sharing their culinary treats with the community for an affordable price. They cook berries inside the homemade batter and top them with a house-made blueberry compote. Maple syrup and soft butter on the side. The waffles are crispy outside with a light, airy, center, dusted with powdered sugar and cinnamon. I had strawberries on the side (+$5 !!). Since I ate some of W's pancakes, we took half the waffles home. W had a drip coffee--no decalf available so I had the fresh-squeezed OJ. It was a large glass so I took half of that home, too. The coffee was nothing to rave about, but it was coffee. Service was friendly and efficient--there is only one cook and one server, and it seems several of us arrived at the same time on this Sunday morning.
