Had dinner here with a friend and it was lovely! Great service. Good food. Beautiful views. We both had prime rib with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The spinach could have been creamer, but it was still good. The bread, of course, is the best!!! Creme Brulee cheesecake and tirmasusi for dessert! Both very lovely choices. I had a sangria and it was refreshing. Will return!

My son in law made reservations which was for nothing! It was my sons bday and reserved an outside table. The hostess was not the friendliest nor helpful. She was sour. Not even a window view were we offered. The food, it was ok, the salmon was really thin, lacked sauce, even though I ordered sauce, and the veggies were burnt. The best food item was the bread and butter.

Fun stop for early mother's day treat. Busy spot, loads of parking, some near, some far (a block or two away.) Reserve a time online, makes the visit quick and easy. Lots of windows with views of the Carquinez Strait and the bridge. We sat indoors and enjoyed a great view. Noticed hummingbirds flitting above the plants and vines on the balcony . Large, varied menu. Ordered bowl of clam chowder to start. Warm, creamy, chock full of onions, clam bits. Got more tasty the more I ate it; flavors build up. I ordered the Salmon plate with capers and vegetables. My #1 daughter ordered the big wedge salad with blue cheese and smoked salmon. Great taste, very filling. Lovely wait staff were attentive, pleasant and professional. We had a great visit.

My husband and I had a nice dinner last weekend. We actually made a reservation online as we were driving over. Since we were early, we had a drink at the bar, and they sat us at our table when it was ready. We had a crab crostini (like a loaded--if small--avocado toast), really good. Then I had lasagna as my entree, also can't go wrong, and my husband had cioppino, which he always goes for. Paired with the fresh bread, everything was great. We didn't have a window seat, but we still looked out a little toward the bridge, and it was such a pretty view as the sun was setting.

This is a really great place if you're all about ambiance. It overlooks the bay and bridges. It's super cute inside. The food is absolutely fantastic. I can't say enough about it. We had salads, crab legs (the drawn butter was heavenly), crab lasagna which was so flavorful and divine, clam chowder with crab on top (best we've ever had). Seriously, absolutely fantastic food. Our wait staff was attentive. Unfortunately because my mom was having issues with pain in her leg, I didn't catch our server's name but she was really sweet. I felt the prices were fair. The quality and taste of the food is exceptional. I definitely recommend stopping here if you're ever in the Benecia area.

It's been a while since we've visited so I was lil excited. Let's jump right in. BlackBerry Lemon drop 4/5 Nice flavor but the blueberry garnish was incongruous, it played heavily on my brain... Calamari 3.8/5 Nice cook, crisp but they needed a touch more s&p. Crab cakes 4/5 Cooked to perfection with a nice crunchy exterior and moist, meaty interior. Spicy chowder 3/5 There wasn't any spice and the petite potato & clam bits left me in want... Garlic noodles w/shrimp 3/5 There was no garlic, huge let down. Crab & shrimp skillet 3.7/5 For $70 I expected much larger shrimp & crab. The flavor was good and I guess the portion of shrimp makes up for the lack in size but far from a hit. Outside seating was nice w/good views & service was great; attentive staff, working to please & satisfy. #GoTaste&See.....w/optimism

Been in the Bay for so long and I've never heard of The Dead Fish! It has one of the most beautiful views in the Bay for sure. We celebrated a birthday here and with the part of 10, we were seated in a private room overlooking the water. It was truly breathtaking. Our waitress was really attentive and sweet in taking care of us and helping with the cakes we brought in as well. Everyone in the party ordered their separate entrees and honestly seemed very pleased with everything. I loved the table side bread. They reminded of little French baguettes. They are a bit in the denser side but put any bread and butter in front of me and I am ecstatic. For my meal, I had the sea bass with couscous and crab cakes. I loved how fresh the sea bass tasted and it wasn't too fishy at all. The marinade was beyond and I can't remember the last time I had such divine couscous. It does get a little heavy since it is a little oily with all that good ol butter but nothing a mini baguette can't soak up! The crab cakes were creamy and filled with a generous portion of crab. We enjoyed our time here as we enjoyed the food and the views of the water definitely made it all the better. It seems like the place to go if you're celebrating something!

I really thought after the rodent incident things may have gotten better here. The hostess left us sitting at the table 25-30 mins we were ready to go after this. The food felt cheapened the shrimps and crab size was very small. It took a lot or time and effort to enjoy the food. I love mussels served any style these were dry and the shells were broken if not careful you could cut your fingers. The ceasar salad and clamchowder was very good. I love bread and butter anywhere. It was very good bread the butter was a bit cold and difficult to spread. I probably would not return. Years ago it use to be a hot spot for seafood especially the crab. PRICE: crab and shrimp not worth it PARKING: limited QUALIFY: seafood needs to represent cost AMBIANCE: nice views STAFF: could be improved

Been coming to Dead Fish forever, since they opened it after Yet Wah went out of business. I love The Dead Fish! Beautiful venue for this restaurant. Breathtaking views of the Carquinez bridge and the Carquinez strait/ Mare Island as well. We went for my 59th birthday dinner. Was able to be seated without reservations instantly! Sat at a lovely table by a window, overlooking the Strait and bridge. Our waitress Tatiana was very attentive. She quickly took our first course order. Calamari, sizzling platter of mussels and shrimp, as well as a Caesar salad. The bread came piping hot. For our main course we had the regular cut Prime Rib (medium rare). Came with mash and spinach. So good! The Prime Rib is so tender it melts in your mouth instantly. Since it was my birthday Tatiana brought me a chocolate ganache slice with cream on top, lit three candles and had me make a wish. I wished that....psych! lol cant tell ya . We had a lovely time. I love the Dead Fish!

    Great cocktails!

Love stopping here for lunch in the scenic bar when traveling. So far, favorites include the Crab Enchilada & the Fishwich. Fries are separate but very tasty. Portions are medium in proportion, so suggest going with others to get more for your money. Parking can be a challenge, so be patient. Staff are ample and super friendly. Fun ambiance with lots to look at, beautiful views, and lovely outdoor seating on good weather days with a view of the bay, bridge, and sometimes water craft. LOVE the bread and butter starter. Definitely worth visiting at least once, if you've never been!

Food was great for everyone! Sea bass and crab Benedict, and a Deadwich which was a burger! (Sandwich) They have interesting titles and names of dishes. We had a cabana and it was perfect for 6 of us, private although the restaurant was full.. brunch is served 12-3 on weekends. Parking can be challenging, but there is additional space across the street I'd say the inside could use a little light and maybe a fresh decor, but also I think it's a legendary spot, so maybe not changing it for history sake? The food was excellent and the service was on point.

First time here. Supposed to have a nice view of the bay but it was dark so could t see anything. But you can see the bridge that was lit up. Their menu is pretty funny and catchy. Our server was really nice and friendly. We ordered the garlic bread, black linguine, branzino, Cesar salad, clam Chowder and fries. We all agreed everything was really good. The bread was really yummy. Had the sea salt caramel crunch cake(?) which was really good. Not too sweet.

I know that a lot of people reading this review are looking for a comparison between the restaurants. Usually, others are split on this opinion when I mention it. So here's my why. The seafood menu selection is the same as most crab boil spots. I ordered the deveined/headless shrimp on my last visit. The spicy sauce was def spicy! Shrimp was cooked perfectly, not overcooked like I've had at other places. They give a generous portion of sauce, which is necessary to pour over some white rice! The appetizer selection at Cajun Crack'n is elite! The fried oysters are my favorite! I've also had the wings, fried mozzarella and Crawfish fried rice. All delicious choices! The garlic noodles were a hit. The food is like a perpetual motion machine. You get hungrier the more you eat. The Po' boy sandwich got a thumbs down from my son. He felt the large bread amount and it's dry texture overpowered the other sandwich ingredients. A large amount of water pooled on the floor in the back of the restaurant while we were dining necessitating what sounded like a shop vac to pick up the water. Too noisy but Accidents happen. There was an Open During Construction sign outside. Rebecca our server was pleasant and attentive. She is a keeper. The bus person cleaning the behind us toward the front door table was chewing on something. She paused her duties for a moment, staring off into space in my direction. Eating while on duty and not on break in front of customers is unprofessional. I tried to make eye contact with her out of curiosity if the chewing would stop when our eyes met. Alas my experiment failed. Something above my head and to the rear of the establishment was more interesting. Maybe some of that water pooling action was still happening. The Men's restroom stall is heavily grafittied. I wish I could think of advice for restaurant owners who suffer this scourge. Perhaps paint the stall inside a solid color and have a can of spray paint on hand? When you pay using the notepad computer the waitress carries, you need to sign on the screen before you hand over your credit card. That is odd. There should be a button on the "Tip screen" for those who want to "Cash Tip" They have a decent draft beer selection which I hope to enjoy on our next visit.

Thin strips of fried tortilla on top. 4/5 stars. No bread or crostini offered :: Fish and Chips - light and nicely fried rockfish with thin fries (I prefer a thicker cut) and vinegar based cole slaw - 4/5 stars :: Harbor chowder - rockfish in a light, thin yet flavorful broth (doesn't rely on flour or cream) - 4/5 stars Service was friendly and attentive. Arrived at 11am and started getting busier by 1130...music offered in the evening. Relaxing and chill spot. East Brother Beer Company is across the way (20 steps) but not open during day. Plenty of drink options (Wine, Fieldwork, Almanac, East Brother Beer) available including non-alcoholic. One bathroom nearby but if you walk down the path there are other unisex restroom (thank goodness not port-a-potties!) for the public and tenants so you're not standing in a line! Short walk along the rugged shoreline and path you'll see some Playa Art (refuge for Burning Man sculptures). I'm always impressed with the massive art and detail that go into these pieces...definitely a labor of love. Also, you'll see these large osprey nests perched atop pilings and utility poles along the water that you rarely see...gotta love nature! :) Overall, a great spot for a special event, drinks, music and bites. I hope they offer calamari and wood-fired pizzas again and check when they have a Fall 2026 menu. Last exit before you get to the San Rafael toll booths. Signage to direct you along the windy 2-lane road. Plenty of free lot parking. Bring a jacket as it can get a little chilly under the covered patio. Heat lamps available Note: Receipt notes a 3% Environmental Fee - independent surcharge added to bills to offset packaging costs, fund carbon-offset programs, or cover local green mandates.

It takes awhile for the server to come assist you, especially ordering drinks. Half our table got drinks and finished before the other got to order. The drinks took awhile to come out and came at different times and were inconsistent with taste and garnish. They never collected any empty glasses when they came with new drinks. So our table was cluttered. This is not good when your table is already cramped. When we were ordering the food the server kept trying to pressure us to order more (either two of the same dish or more food). Unfortunately we listened and got two of the mussel with fries. The assembly of this dish was not great. They put a glob of mayo on top of the mussels...then fries under with a TON of not so great broth. The fries get sooooo soggy and dipping it becomes a nightmare when you start eating the mussels. The mussels also weren't that great. It wasn't necessarily fishy but almost tasted old or left out. I would not recommend this dish. The Brussels sprouts were horrendous and EXTREMELY salty. It was drenched in this buffalo tasting vinaigrette. The entire party hated this. As for the chicken, it was alright. The hot sauce wasn't great so I ate it alone. The biscuit was tough and hard to rip apart. It didn't have that flakey texture. The slaw was a miss from just looking at it. My favorite thing out of it all was the Mac and cheese. Not dry, had good amount of salt. Oh, and if you want to order the side of carrots, I'm not sure 2 slices is worth the amount they charge. The menu is also limited compared to what was offered before.

It's an unassuming, un-aesthetic sandwich but just simply real crab with light mayo and celery dressing. Only regret not getting 2 bc I'd have to brave the line again. Seemed to only have 1 person taking orders and also distributing orders so things were slow. Chowder was also my favorite one from this trip and my kids loved their chili (they sell bread loaves on the side if you need a dipper). Pro tip: not much parking, prepare for side of road and walk. Outdoor seating available but tables are pretty cramped.

That way we can skip the line and get a taste of this first thing in the morning! We thought this was gonna be a heavy breakfast, but I think portion came out just right. Between my partner and I, we shared a Crab Sandwich, Manhattan Clam Chowder and a Bay Shrimp Cocktail. Pretty much no wait for our order since there was no line. They have a seating area outdoor, but it kinda looks like they just manage the kitchen and everything else is self service. The Crab Sandwich was delicious!! There was a generous amount of crab stuffed in a roll that came out warm. It wasn't too saucy and the sauce didn't overwhelm the taste of the crab meat. The roll was neither too dense or fluffy - has a bit of a crunch and bite to it. I think my favorite this morning was the Manhattan Clam Chowder though. Probably because it was a grey and chilly morning, so this bowl was really comforting. I like the mild tartness of the tomato base. There's also lots of chewy bits in the chowder from the seafood they add on there. It tasted really good! Last but not least, the shrimp cocktail. Taste was great, but I just wasn't feeling this for this morning. My partner liked it though! Fresh tasting little bites and the cocktail sauce was great in adding some extra tangy flavor. I'm glad we checked this off our list! Spud provided an awesome start to our morning. Of course I wouldn't mind having this again, but definitely not when there is a wait.

We pull up and the parking lot is completely full even some car making there own parking spaces lol. We parked about 2 blocks down in a neighborhood hood since all the side street parking was all taken. I knew this place was the right choice and was going to be a hit! We walked in and there is a line to pick your food. This is basically a seafood market and they will cook what you pick if you want. The additional cooking fee is $3.00 per pound. I ordered my food to be cooked I was hangry and left with a triple wide big back. My seafood I picked was Alligator, Baby octopus, Basa, Catfish, Jumbo Lobster Tail, Jumbo Tiger prawns, Sea Scallops, and Oysters. I also ordered a bottle of Kim's Crack Sauce. My total damage with cooking fee was $130 it was well worth the price with the amount of food and the seafood per pound is great! I was told it was an hour wait for my food to be cooked and I was totally fine with it. Less than an hour later my food is done and I am handed 2 giant shopping bags full of food and head home. My food was still warm after driving 1.5 hrs home. I dig into the bags and when I tell you they cooked everything to pure perfection and seasoned properly they did their big one. You can also request you food to be fried hard if you want. I will definitely be back. I want to try other seafood items. There is no dining area to sit and eat Soultran's is strictly order to go.

My most recent visit for lunch on a Saturday was very busy! The line was out the door but they move fast and the food comes out even quicker. There are plenty of outdoor and indoor tables where you sit wherever you. There is self service water with and without lemon throughout the location. Pros: Quick and friendly service Tasty lobster rolls, lobster chowder, and crab sandwiches Con: Parking is VERY limited. They have a small lot in the back and you can park against their fence but over the weekend it's almost impossible. There is street parking but also a little hard if you want to park directly nearby. I parked about 1.5 blocks away on the next street parallel to the restaurant. The naked lobster roll is one of my favorites because you can really taste the meatiness of the lobster. You can tell it is fresh in every way with the buttery brioche bread. The tray comes loaded with chips and a side of Cole slaw. If you come with friends, I recommend getting a bowl of the lobster soup to share. Dipping the chips into the soup is chef's kiss! If you are a smaller party, you can always get the 1/2 lobster roll and cup of soup. But the better deal is to get the soup to share on the side since the lobster roll is $39 vs the 1/2 lobster roll and cup of soup is $37. If choosing between the which lobster roll to get, I opt for the naked roll because of the freshness and it is not as heavy. The dressed lobster roll has a good amount of flavor and pairs well with the bread, it's a little heavier because of the mayo and butter brioche bread. They don't use a ton of mayo in it so it's not as bad as you may think. I've had the twin tails in the past and I can definitely say it was very easy to get the lobster out. Sometimes some places make it more difficult and people don't want to really dig in with their hands. Safe to say it was very easy to eat. Over the years, I've seen the price go up with inflation unfortunately. So I definitely still come but as a little treat to myself or if I were to come celebrate a special occasion.
