Hey, what's up, y'all?! So if you know me, you know that I'm always down for a real good, juicy burger. I went to this nice little spot on Metric Blvd called Cafe Java. This spot is a nice, cozy restaurant with a very friendly staff. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries. The burger comes with a kaiser roll bun, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese and a pickle spear. Me personally, I prefer pickles on my burger. It was a 1/3 pounder of well seasoned beef. I enjoyed this burger and the fries. If you want a good burger and fries, with good service and cozy atmosphere, then you need to try Cafe Java. I give Cafe Java 4 out of 5 drinks. Cheers! read more

Amazing coffee! When I saw the page on Yelp, I thought it might be too 'sit down' for me to go in and grab a coffee, but I saw they had caramel macchiatos on the menu so I stopped on on. WOW! They are friendly, efficient, have great selection and prices..... plus the coffee is freaking fantastic. We're visiting, so I only got to try their Caramel Macchiato, Vanilla Latte and Caramel Con Panna... all were so good! A must try!! read more

ok where to star: the food is god and tasty. howeve, there was an employee coughing on people and around people's tables while people were trying to eat. He was also picking his nose with his fingers and constantly wiping his nose with his hands while setting the empty tables. it was so bad that i could not even focus on eating. I scarfed it down because all I wanted to do was get out of there!! so I had to call the manager over and let him know. so as I watch my brother eat, I not that his glass had a lipstick stain on it.. so obviously thick. I asked my brother if he was wearing lipstick and pointed it out to him. that's how people get sick. spreading herpes. I also pointed that out to management. I love it here! It was a great early morning Sunday breakfast. I had the Java breakfast and it was wonderful. Billie Jo was our server and she was fantastic! Friendly, quick, and so helpful. Cafe Java is where I go when I want to eat something yummy in a cozy place with reliable down-home service. It's like my comfort blanket. This particular visit- shout out to Josh and Vicki for being so kind, efficient, and accommodating when my tastebuds were playing tricks on me for some weird reason. If you pop in, ask for them. Great atmosphere & friendly Austin vibe. Our waitress was super knowledgeable and made us feel right at home. I ordered the 2x2x2 and it was phenomenal-eggs tasted great, multigrain pancakes were delicious, and the bacon was crispy. My boyfriend ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and they had a good amount of chocolate chips on the inside. Done with this place. Got takeout, food was not as described in their new menu. Called the restaurant to bring it to their attention. Dirk hung up on me and it went directly to voicemail from that point forward. I can't even call them now. Not removing this review. I've been coming here for 10 years. Done. Okay....so WOW! I was skeptical about this place. Felt that the photos didn't look delicious enough. Oh how wrong I was! So happy we went. It was amazing! 100% kid friendly and the staff had no issues with substitutions or even bat an eye! The place is small and loud so kids don't have to be quiet. I'm surprised they don't have a Costco size restaurant because it would be packed! The food was crazy amazing and so much! My husband and I eat a lot but both of us had tons more f food left on our plate but were so full! I'd come back here hand over hand if I lived in Austin. read more

Service is usually hit or miss here. Today was definitely a miss. Three misses to be exact. First, when I inquired about how much their mugs were, one of the servers just pointed out the $17 T-shirts as if they were the same item of equal price. At the very least, he could have asked someone to get us the price of the mugs. Simple enough, right? Second, I asked for Oat milk for my coffee and the same genius gave me regular creamer! Those of you who are lactose intolerant you know you'll have a bad day if you go with regular creamer. Third, as I was checking out, I felt the need to address the issue with the cashier and he simply chalked it up to be a "language barrier" issue instead of a training or management issue. Ahhh, the convenience of NOT taking responsibility and playing the blame game... Shifting the blame is so much easier, isn't it? The, "It's not my job" route. Well, just know that poor training and lazy/weak leadership will hurt your ability to provide solid customer service. So call it what you want -whether it's a language barrier issue, management, or simply hiring people who can understand basic English. Ensure your employees understand their jobs and have a basic understanding of product knowledge. Understanding some restaurant lingo in English would help too btw. read more

This is a phenomenal place to grab a delicious meal. The service was great, the server was informative and friendly, and the food came out fast. We had to wait for a table but we were seated pretty promptly. We went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. I had an iced cafe mocha and the Ultimate Migas. My mocha was rich and refreshing. The migas were hot and fresh and packed a punch. The jalapeños gave the migas quite a kick but the food was delicious. For sure one of the best places to grab brunch. A small diner on Metric with charm. Cafe Java has delicious food and loads of smiles, but when our bellys are full why wouldn't we be smiling. There are several different options on the menu of breakfast plates as well as lunch entrees. I chose to go with the classic called the Java Breakfast. I posted the pic below. My eggs were cooked as I ordered, over medium with just the right amount of yellow flowing. The bacon was crisp and very good. I had sour dough toast, although there was a few different options with this. It had butter already on the toast but I added some grape jelly. I'm sure you could get it dry if you asked. I got the standard diner drip coffee, however they do have several of the fancy coffees in both the hot and cold versions. The service was fast and very pleasant. Parking is shared among several businesses but ample. They even have art for sale hanging on the walls if you are interested. The establishment is a diner so not fancy. What it lacks in the fanciness it makes up in heart. I'm pretty sure you will enjoy your experience if you give it a try. The rest is up to you. read more

The food was very delicious, and it was quite cheap for the quantity of food I received! There is a variety of choices to choose from, and at least from what my parents said, the coffee was smooth and delicious (I don't like coffee, so it still tasted bad to me). The food was a bit heavy for me, but I'm not used to eating out for breakfast or brunch. The server was also very polite and courteous, and the service was pretty quick despite a lot of customers. The interior was very cozy, and because the barista brewed the coffee near the entrance, I could smell the coffee immediately, which I enjoy. read more

This is a local breakfast classic! There is always a line/waitlist but they know what they are doing and can get their hungry customers in and out with no issues. Just make sure you put your name on the list and they'll come out and call your name when your table is ready. I always start with their bottomless coffee and it's always a new kind which they'll tell you in case you're in a different coffee mood. Breakfast is my go-to option. Look at their daily specials or go for the tried and true options. You honestly can't go wrong. read more

Located just outside the Austin Doman in a quaint suburban neighborhood. Has a local friendly local feel. Great Java, great breakfast selection, and fresh, delicious food. I saw a picture of their eggs benedict on yelp, which is only available if it's part of the daily special. Our very accommodating waiter asked his manager, when on the menu would be comparable. She suggested huevos ranchers, except it would be salsa instead of benedict sauce. Lo and behold they brought it to me with benedict sauce on crusty bread and it was oh so marvelous! read more

Cafe Java is a great neighborhood diner. It has been a while since I've been since I moved away. Kind staff, quick service and good breakfast. You first walk in for breakfast and there are herds of people trying to get a table in the tiny space. There menu has your standard diner fare, but I like breakfast the most. I ordered the hill country it's so much food for roughly $11. 2 eggs, 2 sausages, hash browns and bust hits and gravy...Their food is made fresh and it's solid breakfast. My friends got breakfast tacos. They are cheap and loaded with toppings. You can probably ask for a spare tortilla and make a separate tacos. Overall a nice homey spot in north Austin. read more

We just love Cafe Java! They have captured the old Austin vibe and it makes for a very enjoyable time. The servers all pitch in to create a welcoming atmosphere. Coffee refills are free and free-flowing. I usually get the Java Plate which is a great deal and includes tea or coffee! I don't know how they can be so lucky, but all the employees are smiling and ready to make you happy. There can be a wait on weekend mornings but it's well worth your time. read more

Walked in and snagged the last table; that's how you know it's good if there are no tables left. Was thinking about studying here, thank goodness we didn't because this is NOT a study cafe. I got the sourdough jalapeño jack burger and boyfriend got the chicken sandwich. No fries which was disappointing but the hash browns was pretty good. ITS A LOT of food especially for the price. I love this place. You can't visit or live in Austin and not once go to cafe java. The staff are always so friendly and the food never misses. I usually go here for breakfast or brunch on the weekend, and I almost always get the eggs benedict with queso. I think it's called huevos benny? Not too sure; I usually describe it to a server and they know what I'm talking about lol. I don't think it's always on the menu... Anyway, love the food and vibes. There's usually a wait, typically not more than 30 mins. Parking lot has lots of spots. There's not much to explore around the plaza so if you have to wait, be prepared for that. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for years! It is our favorite go to breakfast spot in all of Austin. You get real hash browns! The service is always friendly and welcoming. They showcase local art for purchase. They fill up fast but have a quick turnaround so it's worth the wait. Alway, always order a Whole Lotta Love Latte. Make sure you get your stamp card if you come back, each coffee equals a stamp. They sell coffee beans and muffins at the counter. read more

We came to Cafe Java for breakfast around 1pm. When you walk in, you're able to take an open seat wherever you can find a clean table. The restaurant gives off cozy diner vibes, in it's own "Keep Austin Weird" kind of way. We sat down immediately and were warmly greeted by our waitress. We asked our waitress for recommendations which did not disappoint! We ordered the Java Melt per recommendation which is a breakfast bagel and hash brown. For my bagel, I got an everything bagel, egg white, bacon for protein, and pepper Jack cheese. The bagel and the ingredients tasted fresh and well-made. The hash brown was golden, crisp, and not soggy - I paired mine with a delicious hot sauce they have on the table. Overall 8/10 food experience. I'd definitely order this again. Our waitress hyped up the bacon so much, she even gave us 2 slices for free to test out before ordering our meal. The service here gives this restaurant it's 5 stars! Our waitress was so personable, attentive, and overall happy to be there. Happy workers makes me excited to come back and support this establishment! Until next time. read more

When you've eaten at a place for many years some of the staff come and go and some seem to stick around. You get to know them pretty well....almost like Family. Bricia...(or Breezy as we like to call her) is one of those folks. When she isn't our server she's never too busy to stop by and say hello, share a few wonderful pictures of her family and sometimes just putting up with some of our good natured kidding. We left today with the words, "We already know you to be the best server in the business but today we will tell the world!" We've always been reluctant to share some positive feedback about a place that we like so much like a Cafe Java. That's because like the premise about the important rule about talking about Cafe Java is that no one talks about Cafe Java even though it is certainly no longer a secret about what a great owner operated small neighborhood restaurant with great food and tremendous service and with a really nice vibe it has become. Then again it is always been like that but its people like "Breezy" and a host of others that work there that keep it just like that. Well Done Cafe Java! read more

The sauce was extremely rich, making it difficult to enjoy or finish the meal. That said, the restaurant itself is adorable, and our waiter was fantastic. The service and atmosphere were both great. While this breakfast wasn't a hit for me, I'll still return and stick with favorites like the fried green tomatoes and taquito salad, which were excellent during my previous visit.

I highly recommend the Badass Bacon and eggs, it was delicious! My daughter ordered the Smoked Turkey on a Pretzel, and she loved every bite. We both took it to go but was happy and impressed with our meals. If you're looking for great food, excellent service, and a clean, welcoming atmosphere, I highly recommend giving Phoebe's Diner a try. We can't wait to come back! Cafe Java used to be my favorite spot but every time I go there and sit at the bar and have to look at the lady that works in the kitchen handling food without washing her hands after being on the phone, it makes me sick. Not only that but I have seen her before coming out of the kitchen yelling in a derogative language at her co workers. I don't know for what reason they keep her around when she doesn't care about the restaurant image. I am bilingual and can understand every single word that comes out of her mouth and it is disgusting. I asked her name to one of the servers and I was told her name is Dhalila. I came here the weekend of the fourth of July to do a bit of homework and get away from the hustle and bustle of Southern Holiday excitement. And boy did I luck out. This place was air conditioned (PLUS!!) and not too crowded. It offers a great breakfast menu and is completely organic. I enjoyed a smoothie as well as a slice of German chocolate cake as I fully took advantage of the free wifi. The manager introduced himself to me and mentioned that they are opening a new desert cafe and that I should check it out. As I was paying I joked around with the cashier, some may call it Southern hospitality while I call it excellent service. I feel like if there is an introduction to Austin & a place to encapsulate Texas hospitality - this is it folks. We ordered some soft beef taco and the hill country Sunday special. I didn't think breakfast food could be much different from ihop with regular egg, biscuit, and hash browns, but it was actually pretty impressively good! Completely blown away by how friendly and thoughtful the staff is at Cafe Java. I just ran into grab a quick cup of coffee, the guy at the register asked me what the best thing that happened to me all day was, and I told him that work went pretty smooth so I was pleased about that. He then said "well how about a free cup of coffee" and gave me my coffee for free. I've literally never had a bad experience at this place, and they clearly go above and beyond to earn customer loyalty. It's obvious that they truly care about each person who walks through their doors, which in this day and age, seems to be pretty rare. Highly recommended! read more

Love this place. This is my go to place for brunch and it is the best in Austin. It usually gets crowded though so expect a wait of 20-30 mins on weekends. The servers are really nice and friendly and they work real hard to maintain that old style diner atmosphere where you actually get a check that you take to the cashier and pay. Basically writing reviews now as we have a quarantine. I've been to some places but never left such reviews for them. Now I have the chance to post and this place would be one of them. I couldn't tell how good this place was since I visited this a few months ago. It was a quick bite for breakfast. They have a great menu and the food was wonderful. Roasted coffee smell greeted us upon entry. Small hole in the wall has fast turnover despite a line forming in front. It took us under 10 minutes to be seated. Fresh coffee beans sold up front. I ordered the Java (2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 bacons, toast, tea) while wife settled for the pancake platter with Philly cheese omelette. This place always seems to be buzzing with life, which can be good or bad depending on what your dining preferences are. It can get a bit cramped in here from all the people, but overall, it felt cozy to me. The staff is very friendly and helpful. While they do have many good deals, some items are a little bit pricey for what they are. Definitely check out the daily specials they have up if you like trying new things. read more

I heard good things about this place, so I gave it a try. They are too freaking busy for the small space they have. There was a long line just to pick up my order. The staff seems to barely be keeping up with the workload-- it was very hectic. I'm glad they clearly have loyal patrons, but my omelette was bland. My wife & I recently discovered this little gem on Metric and we love it. Great atmosphere, great food, & great prices. I had the pancakes the first time, they were big fluffy & delicious! Good value for $7. It's in a little nook like Jason said and the atmosphere is great. Others at the tables raved about the corned beef and the special that day. That kind of attention feels thoughtful and rare, especially for a counter service spot. They have a nice selection of iced teas including herbal tea and flavored green tea, plus beer and soda. It feels like more of a brunch / lunch place but it works for dinner too. This isn't a place where you come away saying "you have to order this one thing." It's more that everything is done well across the menu, which makes it easy to come back and try something different next time. I can't speak to the other locations, but this one was great.

Nothing over $27. The dinner menu is about the same, but some items are close to $50. One thing I was glad to see, which most restaurants no longer do, is to start off with a complimentary basket of warm bread and smokey oil. We started with their brussels sprouts and their shrimp appetizers which were excellent. We moved on to the various dishes on the menu. All were well plated and perfect for the average appetite. I got the pizza which was well made and large enough for me to take 3 slices to go. After the meal, we were handed a very extensive decadent dessert menu that no one in Austin can compete with. Once those desserts hit the table, that cinched the 5 star review. The leisurely lunch service was on point. They have the right formula working for them here which explains their long running presence. Keep in mind, this place is popular, so you'll need to make a reservation for those special holidays.
