First time of eating at this restaurant. My wife ordered the #2 which was a 3 egg omelette with ham, cheese, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms with home fries, sourdough toast and a side of crispy bacon. She said the omelette was really good. The omelette was cooked just right and it was loaded with melted cheese, ham, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms. The home fries were seasoned perfectly and the sourdough toast was really, really good. The bacon was delicious. It was thick bacon and very crispy. I on the other hand didn't have the same opinion about the omelette that I ordered as my wife did with hers. I ordered the #7 which was a 3 egg omelette with queso cheese, jalapeños and a short stack of buttermilk pancakes. The eggs for the omelette were cooked good, there might have been 2 or 3 little pieces of jalapeño and the queso cheese didn't have any flavor. This was supposed to be a spicy omelette, I thought. It was very bland overall. The short stack of buttermilk pancakes were pretty good. The disappointment in my omelette is the only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 stars. The service here is very good, from the hostess to the server. When we got there, we had about a 10 minute wait...not bad. The hostess was very friendly and polite. I had the regular breakfast with bacon and sourdough toast. I thought my meal was cooked really good. The home fries I thought were a little bland but I added a little salt and it was better. I always forget to order my toast dry because the restaurants down here really slap that butter and here was no exception. There was two tablespoons of butter. I scraped most of it off the toast. The rest of the meal was delicious though. The service is outstanding. They had plenty of servers. The wait was very short. Also they checked back on you a couple of times. I saw they even gace the kids a small basket of toys as well as crayons and paper to help occupy their time. Outstanding! The astetics was cool. They were numerous hand drawn pictures on the walls. My husband and I have talked about trying this neighborhood gem for years and finally decided to stop there for breakfast yesterday. There was a short line and we reviewed the menu while we waited. I ordered the house special omelette, which is like a Denver omelette with sides of home fries and sourdough toast. I added on a side of bacon cooked as crispy as they could make it. My husband ordered the queso omelette with a side of pancakes. My omelette was very good and stuffed full of diced ham, bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms. The home fries were well seasoned and crispy. The sourdough toast was cut in well-sized slices. My husband loved his pancakes, but found his omelette bland. The menu said it had jalapenos, but I only saw two small diced pieces. He took leftovers home and will spice it up more to his liking, so it will be fine. My only "complaints" would be that my husband was not told that his Sprite would be a can and not a fountain drink and that the bacon, while crisp, was very thin. The restaurant itself had a fun vibe with eclectic customers, including an older lady wearing a fun unicorn hat and a guy with the longest, nice-looking hair I had ever seen. Many of the staff knew customers by name, so you know it's a local favorite. Kids excitedly turned over coloring pages to be proudly hung on the wall. They even have a fun Green Eggs & Ham mural on the wall. We will definitely return to give lunch a try. read more

As soon as I walked in, I was hit with a strong smell that wasn't exactly pleasant. It's not something that would make me walk out, but definitely noticeable enough to mention. The food itself was just okay. Nothing particularly bad. I loved the French toast. It was delicious! The fresh buttermilk poured over the top hits different. It added a rich, creaminess that balanced the sweetness beautifully. Definitely the highlight of the meal. The water had a strange smell -- almost like raw eggs which was off. I ended up not drinking water because I couldn't get past the scent. Overall, it was a mixed experience. The French toast and buttermilk were wonderful, but the smell inside the restaurant and the odd-tasting water brought the vibe down a bit. Came for breakfast on Saturday around 10:15 ish for two, only about a 5 min wait. Overall service was great, multiple servers checking in, refilling coffee, asking if we need anything else, no notes! Thank you all for your customer service. Food wise, I ordered the Spanish omelette and my mom got the Browning. If my thoughts the bacon was thin and too crispy (kind of just disintegrated when I when to bite it) but the French toast was delightful! My Spanish omelette needed more flavor in the actual base of the omelette. Without the salsa the omelette had very minimal impact and even the salsa I think could be enhanced if it was charred. My home fries were on the crispy side with at least 5 -8 pieces being burnt or overtly crispier than the rest. Yes, I could have asked for them to remake it but given others were waiting on tables and that I likely wouldn't have eaten a large amount of them even with a remake it didn't feel worth that effort. My co workers speak highly of this place so maybe that specific dish is just something I wouldn't get again on another visit. read more

My wife and I headed to this longtime local breakfast spot after a two hour pickleball session. We live South, so I had not been to their "new" location. This place still serves up damn good food with decent service. Three different servers worked our table, so we received our water, coffee, and food rather quickly. However, they gave us our check with our meal, so no one ever came back to refill our waters or my coffee. And they weren't very busy, so there's really no excuse for such an oversight. My huevos rancheros were delicious. And my wife enjoyed her Popeye omelette. We were so hungry I forgot to take pics! The ambiance is classic diner. Popular restaurant even during lunch hours, but I went on Labor Day so maybe that's why there were a lot of people. Anyways, I got the Burnet Road Benedict, and it was very delicious! It's heavy and rich bc of the melted cheese, and it was salty, which is why I deducted a star. However, that didn't ruin the experience here and it still tasted delicious! Yum! It's a solid little cafe in a strip building. If you want something cozier and more down home-y than your standard IHOP or Denny's type of spot, this is where you will want to go. The food is good! I have had the build your own omelet with a mix of vegetables, the vegetarian burger, and the build your own baked potatoes. Not all at once! The portions are so big. I actually could not even finish my baked potato. I got maybe 3/4 of the way through it. It didn't seem like enough to take home when I was done. It was so good, but a baked potato is hard to mess up, especially since you can pick your own toppings. I haven't tried whatever their combinations are yet. I probably will on my next visit. Servers are nice and helpful! But sometimes it takes a while, it seems like they are sometimes short staffed. I can't really blame them for that. I came to The Omelettry for the first time with some friends for breakfast. It was a Saturday morning around 8:30 and it was pretty busy. There were a few people waiting to be seated when I arrived. Thankfully my friends had gotten there earlier than me and were sat pretty quickly. The restaurant has a good selection of items on their menu, specifically for breakfast. Given their name, of course I had to try an omelette! I decided to order a ham + cheese omelette with an add-on of mushrooms. On the side, instead of a stack of pancakes I decided to go with fruit (pineapple) and a couple slices of wheat toast. I'll start with the sides: The fruit in my picture was unfortunately not super fresh--there were pieces that were fairly dark, almost a shade of brown. The toast was crispy and the whipped butter was good, they have packets of jelly on the table for you to use. The omelette was exactly what was ordered--good chunks of ham, cheese melted and gooey and the mushrooms gave it some great additional flavor! It was good, not amazing, but good! Service-wise, the young woman who was taking our order and bringing our food checked in with us maybe once aside from when she took our order and brought our food. It's notable only because there were some things needing attention, specifically by my friends, and she was nowhere in sight. That was pretty disappointing. Overall we had an okay experience--it checks the boxes for a well-rounded breakfast if you're in the area. I drive by The Omelettry all the time and we decided to give it a shot for a quick breakfast before the ATX Open. Not the greatest idea bc as you can imagine, it's pretty busy on a weekend morning. Waitlist wasn't crazy long for a party of 2, but waitress was super nice and told us there are open seats at the bar so we immediately got sat. I got The Browning and severely underestimated the amount of French toast that came with it. It's huge! A full entre + the eggs and protein. I was able to take some home and have leftovers so that was cool. Quality wise, all your standard diner food quality. Pretty solid on quantities. Fast service for how busy it was. Kind of chaotic atmosphere with many families but that's how it goes. read more

I've wanted to try this place for years and finally decided to give it a try about a month ago. The service was great, we were seated almost immediately, our server was attentive and even brought over toys for the little one. The vibe was cool, it was pretty full but is also not a large space. We ordered our food which also came out quickly sadly the eggs and potatoes were overcooked, the potatoes so much so only about half were edible. The bacon is def the fully cooked bacon you just microwave and serve. I honestly expected more but it's been checked off my bucket list. Fantastic spot for breakfast on a recent work trip. I saw this place had good reviews on Yelp and also appeared on a couple of "best of" lists when I was trying to figure out breakfast one morning. They were not super busy the morning I went, probably because it was fairly early and also a weekday. They were still about half full. I was seated immediately, and the service was great throughout my visit. Multiple folks checked in on me to ask how everything was, my coffee was kept full at all times, and it was just a great old school diner feel. The prices were super reasonable as well. I couldn't go to an omelettry without trying an omelette. I got the house special and added jalapenos. It was great - the eggs were fluffly, plenty of ingredients without being overwhelming, and I also got a side of the house made salsa. The omelette comes with a side, and I got a pancake. Came here for breakfast with some coworkers and we were all so happy with our food. First of all, the portions here are great. The French toast was actually massive. I got the Popeyes favorite which was an omelet with spinach and cheese and other veggies with sour cream on top. I got the home fries as my side and both were great! While the Omelettry's current location on Airport Blvd is only a relatively recent phenomenon, its been a long time staple of the Austin breakfast scene. As many of these old diners have vanished from the scene over the years, it warms my heart to see this place still serving up flapjacks, omelettes, and relatively average cups of hot coffee. Is there a better breakfast out there somewhere in Austin? Probably. But if simple and good is what you look for in your morning meal then you probably don't need to look anywhere other than here. read more

The service was friendly, coffee refills came around often, everyone that worked there was helping take care of tables that needed something. The food was OK. Toast was served with enough butter for an entire loaf, maybe this is their gimmick, whatever. Home fries were underseasoned (if seasoned at all) and 1/3 were undercooked, 1/3 were cooked right, and 1/3 were burnt. Fortunately they buy Valentina hot sauce by the gallon to help mask the issues. The cheese sauce over the omelet was OK, but the cheese in the omelet itself was cold and still shredded, and had not even started to melt during the cooking process. A sweet old standby, that I often forget in my greedy rush to try every new brunch spot in town. But they are not forgotten--on the Sunday I visited, they were packed and we had to wait for our table. I really needed a short stack of their pancakes, which are always just perfect. I wasn't disappointed, and the Olive omelette was just as good as I remembered. My friend got crazy and ordered a bowl of the daily soup as her side. Bad call. The Vegetarian chili looked like something straight out of a can, and had no flavor. Been going here since it opened decades ago at the original location. Left Austin for 25 years and returned and IT'S STILL HERE. Everything here is simply amazing without exception. The Chili Con Queso omelet is so incredibly tasty especially with sausage and onions added. The home fries are addictive. The pancakes are delectable. I'm not a fan of gingerbread but I've been told they are second to none. The new place has the same vibe as before and the staff seem to be the same Mother Earth type of folk as before. On a Sunday afternoon, place was buzzing, but we got a spot within 5 mins. Service was quick and polite- they even dropped off small toys at the table for the kids. But, food was very mid. For a place called omelette, the omelettes weren't anything to write home about. We got the Spanish and vegetable omlettes and they were pretty boring in flavor. Someone called this place an "Austin institution" and I don't know what's there except for the leftover history. I paid $18 for an omelet and got this. Runny mess. The chicken tasted stale and had a gross smell. I asked to replace the bacon in my omelet but they cannot replace it. Charged $3 for chicken and served me this. The first server who came to us for water and coffee had a rough morning. The Omelettry is one of those iconic Austin gems that was an essential part of my teens & 20's. The portions are generous, the prices are "old Austin" and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. It's got the same vibe as it probably did back in the 70's--"when you're here, you're family". Our favorite Omelettry menu items: Their omelettes are huge and AWESOME. We love the Popeye's, Broccoli Sour Cream, and Spanish omelettes. Their pancakes are huge, fluffy and delicious. Queso is spot-on and good with everything (you can order a side of queso with anything and it'll make it significantly yummier). We also love their soups, and they'll have several soup options every day. A couple of other fun things worth mentioning: --Notice the colorful aprons hanging in the windows as window coverings. These are all the aprons from all the waitstaff from the past ~45 years. --Look for the paper mache fried egg on the ceiling; it came over from their original Burnet Rd. location and has lived in the restaurant since its start. --See if Kenny or Jesse are around! They're the super sweet and friendly owners; Kenny opened the Omelettry in 1978. read more
