This place is a great little hole in the wall family style restaurant. Been around more than a decade which is awesome to see small business booming. It was packed last night on a sunday evening. We got a bit of everything uni pasta, scallop carpaccio, tonkatsu chicken and pork. everything delicious! supposedly they were one of the first to do the uni spaghetti wasn't too fishy either just right. Definitely go back if I was in the area, its one of those spots no frills just good tasting food. Intimate setting great for small families. I don't recommend more than 7 people I think we were the only large group and it was bit tight setting. And my friend who doesn't eat seafood even tried it and he wanted more. The wasabi and uni notes match perfectly and the nori really ties it all together. That dish was fantastic. 9.5/10 maybe even 10/10 My friend ordered the Hamburg combo and it was also delightful. Think of a very delicious meatloaf. And now think of it seared and deep fried. The main entree is Chef's choice : we got the porterhouse steak (upgraded to 12 ounce) medium rare , came with a side of creamy baked potatoes and a very flavorful cold pasta ( maybe Marsala sauce?). One risotto included , tonight it was seared scallop with mushroom risotto. The dinner was capped by one each dessert - croissant bread pudding topped by chocolate and surrounded by a delicious caramel sauce - walnut crème brûlée- very tasty without being overly sweet - Panna cotta with fresh berries and berry sauce drizzle There is no kids' menu but we got a chicken curry dish for our little one - we asked for extra mild , which she seemed to enjoy. Heard about this Japanese cafe from a friend and told me good things about their food, so I had to check it out. When we came in that morning, I was quite surprise when I looked up thinking if it was really the blue sky above us. Theres not that much good Japanese food in my area, but this place was pretty good. We ordered their famous wasabi uni pasta, the seafood linguine, and the samurai tuna tar-tar. Everything was a 4/5. Initially I enjoyed eating the uni pasta, but the flavor got too overwhelming and powering that I got sick of the flavor. It's not bad, it's just not part of my palate. Ahi tuna appetizer - the crispy delicate wontons were delicious but not strong enough to scoop the tuna. Tuna mix with avocado and seasonings was great. Calamari - huge rings of calamari in a tempura batter. The rings were the size of onion rings! They were so good! Peking pork buns appetizer - comes with 4 steamed bao buns that you can build your own with the pork pieces and shaved green onions and sauce. The steamed buns are so hot and fresh. The flavor combo is excellent! The Chinese chicken salad was huge. Chicken drenched in sauce and lots is different things added to the salad. Not sure what happened today but everyone got their food in a timely manner EXCEPT for my Chinese chicken salad came way late - everyone else was done eating by the time my salad came 45 mins later than everyone else. Café Hiro is one of the few spots around here that actually feels thoughtful without being pretentious. The food is consistently good, and you can tell it's not just thrown together. I like that it's small and quieter than most places, so it doesn't feel chaotic. But we finally did after being tempted with all the great reviews and pictures of the food they serve. And not only was the food so so good, the service they provided, along with the ambiance, was very much welcoming. But back to the food... it was such a nice fusion of Japanese, Italian and American. They really do a great job of blending the different flavors and ingredients. We tried a lot of the popular dishes seen on Yelp, and none of them disappointed. I've been here quite a few times and just now realizing I've never left a review. Most people think that Japanese/Italian cushion won't work but let me tell you, it really does. The service from Stanley and the rest of the staff was on point. You definitely feel like you are in a tucked away hidden gem on the streets of Tokyo with the dimly lit atmosphere, artwork on the walls, and those smooth water stones lining the entrance. Food was as delicious as I remember. I always get the calamari to start and the uni pasta as my entree but since I was with a group, I got to try many other dishes and the seafood risotto is my next order when I come back. Just had a lunch there and the dining experience could be less than desired. For a place with 4 stars, over 1300 reviews my group and I expected above the average service and food. The reason for 2 stars is mainly the service. The elder waitress (5 stars) was very attentive, accommodating and friendly while the younger waitress was TOTALLY OPPOSITE. No smiles, no greeting, rushing to clean the table as if there's a waitlist going on. She would murmur to the elder waitress and glance at us as we weren't invited. The interior of this place is a nice size not big or too small but if you had a bigger group than 5 it might be better to call in advance to let them know. The food is delicious and was the perfect place for lunch. The menu included lots of Italian and Japanese foods and the fusion between the two cuisines was immaculate. I went to Cafe Hiro long before I could appreciate what a gem this place truly is. They have an insane family style omakase for parties of 4 or more. For $45 pp, you get your choice of 3 appetizers, 1 salad, 2 pastas, an entree (chef 's choice), a risotto (chef's choice), and freaking all of the desserts. It's such a good value for what you're getting. You basically get to taste the entire menu. They also portion the each dish according to your party size which is a minor detail that I much appreciated. From what I can recall, you are able to choose some of the specials as your choice too. Like what? Cafe Hiro seamlessly blends Japanese flavors into Italian vessels. It's different and oh so good. While I loved everything we ordered, some favorites include: -scallop carpaccio: with daikon, yuzu sauce, and curry oil -Peking pork: 4 pieces of steamed buns, Asian herb mix, hoisin sauce -uni pasta: wasabi, nori But my very, very favorite was probably the New York steak. So basic, I know, but the entree comes with buttery scalloped potatoes, some pasta and a garlic ponzu dipping sauce. This is going to be a long one i fear .. So many words and thoughts to say about this place and they're all so positive. This is generally a pretty small space (getting a reservation helps) but walking in I already loved the mural on the side and the decor and overall vibe. Its so cozy and cute and it already gave great aura. For starters we got the Calamari and Mushroom Salad- both were SOOO GOOD! I am also biased because I love mushrooms but I thought the citrusy sauce with the 5 different types of mushrooms was a great combination. The calamari was also fried to perfection too, as it wasn't too soggy or too fried and it was that good in between, and the parmesan on top was different but I actually liked it a lot! For entrees we shared the fried scallop risotto, hamburg, uni pasta, and mushroom/ eggplant pasta. I will say the risotto and uni pasta were my favorites, the mushroom base of the risotto was so flavorful but not overwhelming, and the uni pasta was mixed in so well. I think usually uni pasta at other places you'd have to mix in the uni pieces but this one was already mixed in, which I prefer as it was evenly spread but the time we tried it. I thought the mushroom and eggplant pasta was lacking some saltiness but I know they're not known for their vegetarian dishes! The hamburg was great as well, it was a nice texture and not too juicy or dry and a little sweet. For dessert we got the Panna cotta and that was nice and light. I don't know how strictly its enforce. Ask. But know it's free. That's always a good thing The service was wonderful. If it matters, the servers both were wearing face masks. it's a small space and it wasn't busy so both servers helped with service. I enjoyed the subtle mustardy dressing, as it balanced out all the buttery dishes we ordered :) Per our wonderful server's recommendation, we decided to try: Ume shiso pasta (5/5) - dare u to try! :) Seafood & uni risotto (3/5) Osso Bucco (3/5) Starter Salad & Ume shiso pasta were my top two faves! Though the meat & sauce were both melt-in-your mouth tender, the Osso Bucco was just too buttery flavor-wise & texture-wise, with nothing else to contrast in the dish. I was craving for pickles/kimchi/sauerkraut to cut through the grease. There was white rice to accompany the osso bucco, but we had risotto so didn't end up eating the rice. The risotto also was extremely creamy & rich, so couldn't finish it unfortunately. Seafood & uni came in generous portions & were very fresh! The ume shiso pasta was the absolute highlight dish, bc it was a new flavor combo I'd never tried before and it was light, tangy, savory. Definitely something I'd aspire to recreate one day :) Overall, my experience could've been a 4 instead of a 5 because of the combination of dishes we got. VERY GOOD. I would arrive hungry! I've grown up my whole life in Cypress and have tried many restaurants. Now that the Thai Place is gone this has taken the #1 spot. They greeted us friendlily right when we walked in. The environment was relaxing. Calm Hawaiian music was played. The decorations were unique and heartwarming. I wanked in sad. I left happy and full. The cafe is really cute. Very warm and festive decor with hand painted wall murals of random images. Service was sufficient but lacked any attention to guests. The food was mediocre and our party felt all dishes lacked any bold flavors or authenticity from any cuisine. Our favorite was only the house salad that came with our meal. Our least favorite was the curry. The curry sauce reminded me of bbq sauce or a grindy tomato blend. It did not taste like curry and did not go well with the rice. Came to Cafe Hiro for an early dinner! Cute, yet confusing artwork spanned its walls. The themes of the decor did not seem to mesh well together. The small space created an intimate setting as seats were close together. Staff were sweet. Food came out slowly. As for their Italian-French-Japanese fare, presentation was nice, but flavor was underwhelming. Here's what we tried: Uni pasta: Creamy, but underseasoned. Could not taste the lovely brininess of sea urchin. Seared scallops risotto: Creamy and rich, but heavy and tiring. Would be more well balanced with an acidic component, yet the cistrusy yuzu was faint. The scallops were plump and tender! I recommend making reservations to dodge the long lines! read more

It's a small and cozy place, really cute. The food is delicious especially the uni pasta, pork cutlet, and sea bass.

Having tried Cafe Hiro before, I had to come back for a visit. It's recommended that you make reservations for the weekends since it can get pretty crowded and the restaurant is small. Japanese-Italian fusion might not be everyone's cup of tea but Cafe Hiro did it right. The uni pasta was creamy, balanced, rich, and savory. It hit the right spot and filled me up nicely. Portions aren't too big and prices are a bit high but the nature of the dish means you'll leave satisfied. Service was okay but the ambiance was nice. read more
