We were originally going to go somewhere else but decided to try out this place!. The food was amazing. The menudo and chilaquiles was delicious. The base of the menudo was great and you can tell they cleaned the menudo very well. All of the staff was really nice and made the experience feel like being at a family members house. We love going to the Cypress location--not only for the delicious food, but also for the incredible hospitality we always receive from their amazing staff. I recently hosted my birthday brunch here with 40 of my closest friends and family, and they did an outstanding job accommodating our large party. Everything ran smoothly, and the service was exceptional from start to finish. Manager Patty is wonderful to work with. She made the planning process easy, ensured her team was supported, and consistently provided excellent customer service to every guest. Jorge has been our server on several occasions and is one of our absolute favorites. I always request him when I have the chance because he's so friendly, fun, and makes sure everyone feels well taken care of. Tomas also helped serve our large party, and he was fantastic. He made sure we never needed anything, and our champagne glasses were always full! I visited this establishment on a Sunday evening for evening rations. I was seated and given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were good...I don't eat salsa. I ordered the cheeseburger which comes with french fries. I also ordered a regular pepsi no ice. The men's washroom was clean and paper towels were available... good. The waiter returned and told me they were out of burgers. Not Good!!! Major fail on the part of the restaurant. I rethought my order a ended up ordering one fish taco that I asked to be done plain; that is, just the fish (mahi-mahi) and the tortilla. It was done as I requested and was decent enough. When I got the bill I noticed a 45 cent surcharge which amounted the five percent of the pre tax total. That surcharge was a total surprise. This is not acceptable even though the amount was small. I pushed back a little and ended up paying part not all of the surcharge. Between the non availability of the burger I really wanted to try and the surprise surcharge, this establishment gets the lowest possible score. If I was to give a letter grade as is done in school this establishment would get an F. read more

Oh my goodness! We were craving Mexican food, so we decided to stop by El Torito. What a chaotic experience it turned out to be! Our server was friendly, but he took our drink order and vanished for a whopping 20 minutes. When he finally returned, he brought our drinks but left our chips, salsa, and guacamole behind. After another 20 minutes, my husband suggested we move to the bar since we noticed people were getting their orders quicker. Finally, our server found us seated at the bar. After another 40 minutes of waiting, he apologized profusely and said, "Oh no, I forgot your chips! I'll be right back." Why bring them now after we've been waiting for so long? To make matters worse, we ordered the shrimp fajitas, and they were absolutely dreadful. The shrimp was slimy and tasteless, while the beans and rice were the only redeeming qualities. While they do have a great happy hour with excellent drinks, the service was atrocious. After spending $112.00, I wouldn't be returning to El Torito anytime soon. read more

Took 40 minutes to get our entrees, and I've been in the service industry it happens, but the fact that the ticket times are this slow only to be coupled with COLD food. Enchiladas came out cold with the sauce soaked and dried into the enchilada from sitting so long, fajita plate came out with barely any veggies. Today I went to have a drink and dinner for my wives birthday. Since it was happy hour we sat at the bar. Our waiter was Jose C. Jose was very attentive and very hard working. He got everything right the 1st time and keep in mind he didn't write anything down. All memory. Great job! What impressed me was that he was not only in charge of taking care of customers at the Bar but also at all the surrounding tables too. So he was a waiter AND a bartender!!!! He also checked in on us several times to make sure we were ok! He is a matured man and I am very envious of his work ethics and ability to multitask. Very impressive! We come to this location for brunch often, usually on Sundays. This was our first Saturday brunch. Julio, our server, was incredible--very understanding when my daughter didn't want anything from the Saturday brunch menu and kindly brought out a kids menu for her. We visited during lunch and they had the weekday (M-F) lunch buffet for $19.99 per person or their regular menu. We opted for the Pick Your Own Combo 2 items for $19.50 or 3 items for $21.50! Great deals for very generous portions. The food came out in about 10 minutes and everything was delicious. The only reason why I'm giving a 4 out of 5 stars is because the rice was a bit dry and the chile relleno batter was salty. Other than that, everything was great! The seating was comfortable and the place had a nice, old Spanish vibe. My wife has the birria tacos and loved them, my daughter ate up all the rice and I had the grande sampler. Our 4th time here for brunch. It is always packed but seems to be understaffed. Waiter showed up once, didn't mention our mimosa was part of our brunch but offered other alcoholic drinks. I asked for a mimosa for my wife and me and he brought only one at the end of our meal. He never came back to check up on us or ring up our check so we had to go to another waiter and ask but still no one brought our check. After 10+ mins, I got up and went to the waiter to grab the check. I couldn't get out any earlier cause the mariachi band blocked us in but at least they were entertaining. Came in for lunch with my family. There was no one standing in the front when we walked in so we waited a few minutes for someone to seat us. Restaurant had a few parties seated and the lunch buffet going on. We chose to do the sit down menu. My children got kid menus but no crayons. My oldest son looked at me like how am I supposed to complete the activities on the menu. A lady then brought us some chips and salsa. The waitress came by our table and took our orders. We ordered our food but were rarely checked on after that. The chicken in my tacos from the first bite was fairly unpleasant and had a different flavor. This was an unusual experience at El Torito.
